How to keep and read files on the client side?

There's a web page with a certain X3D model, and there are several inputs on the same page. When a user submits the form, the servlet changes the model and returns a page based on the input values. The problem is that the part of this model is a human body (which is pretty tough for downloading). What I'm trying to find out is if there's some way to store that model on the local computer and then access it from the servlet without regetting it from the server. Thanks.

With JSP you can't run java code on the client. All of it runs on the server.
To run java on the client, you use an Applet.
Alternatively you go the pure html/javascript way, and write javascript includes for code.
Or you use something like AJAX, to submit the form, and receive back only "changes" to the model.
Not sure if that helps at all.
Good luck,

  • I want to read a file on the client side

    Hi all,
    I want to read a file on the client side, then the server show the contents of that file.

    Signed applet sounds cool - I guess Microsoft's ActiveX technology would be the mirror of this.
    Write you file access code as you normally would and then just drop it in a applet and JAR it up.
    Use keytool to sign it - users will be requested to accept/review your certificate in order to grant file-access permissions.
    Warm regards.

  • How to open and save file like the Notepad Demo do?

    I am a newer to Java Web Start. I found that in the Notepad Demo, when user try to open or save file, a message box appear and give the user some security suggestions.
    In my application, I used a JFileChooser and set the <security> element to <j2ee-application-client-permissions/> in the jnlp file. But the application will thow an exception:
    access denied (java.io.FilePermission C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\desktop\Java Web Start.lnk read)
    Can someone tell me how to solve this problem. By the way, where can I find the source of the Notepad Demo. I want my application to open and save file just like the Notepad Demo do.

    The Notpad demo uses the JNLP api to read and write files. The api doc can be found at:
    http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/docs/javadoc/index.html
    Although the Notpad demo source is not available, there is other sample code available at:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/releases/javawebstart/
    Included here is the webpad demo, which uses the FileOpenService and
    FileSaveService API's.

  • How can I open and copy files on the win side from the  mac side?

    I am working on the mac side and I need to be able to copy files from the mac side that I create over to the win side.  I can open and view win files when I am booted to Snow Leopard, but I cant copy files to the win side.  I think Macdrive does the opposite.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    C

    to write to Windows NTFS you need 3rd party.
    You have read only access to HFS from Windows.
    MacDrive8 works in Windows to add write to HFS as does Paragon. Paragon has what I have come to see as the best NTFS driver for OS X, and they have a separate HFS8 for Windows similar to MacDrive8.
    Maybe you want to run Windows as a client OS using Parallels instead?

  • Open/read a txt file on the client side in a Form server architecture

    We are moving our software from client-server to Web architecture but we have problems
    with all the forms that use GET_FILE_NAME and
    TEXT_IO built-in functions.
    This commands, in fact, work on the application-server side and not on the client (browser-side) as we need.
    How can we solve this problem??????
    Thank-you for your help.
    null

    there is a way to solve this problem.
    you must use developer 6 and above.
    you will have to modify your appliaction and use developer ability to work with javabeans
    you will have to write a javabean that will do the read/write operation at the client side.
    for more details look at my answer to the following topic:
    "Read and Write Files to user from FormsServer "
    that was opened at dec 15.

  • How do I get an XML file on the client side hard drive

    Is there a way to get XML files from a Flex form and get it
    to the hard drive on the client side? I realize Microsoft got
    impaled by allowing this sort of thing with ActiveX. We would like
    the app to be browser based but need XML files dropped off on the
    hard drive. There is an application running locally that needs to
    consume them. Can I run flex standalone without web services and
    still access the hard drive? Seems robust enough to do so.

    Hi Simcah, I have a similar problem. Have you found out any solution?
    thanks, dan
    You need to ask the printing service provider. Dealing with color totally depends on the printing process involved and of course the machines used.

  • Auto remove of log files on the client-side is not working

    Hi,
    I have a setup for one-to-one client/server replication database. Everything is replicated ok.
    But on the client side, I see the log.00000000xx files are not removing at all,
    while the server has only 2 last log.00000000xx files left. But if I switch the role of the client/server,
    the newly server will eventually removed the unused log.00000000xx file, and have two last log file left.
    Both client and server database environment setup has called dbenvp->log_set_config(dbenvp, DB_LOG_AUTO_REMOVE, 1).
    Is there any additional setting for the client-side to auto remove the unused log files?
    Thanks,
    Sandra

    Hi.
    First, what version are you running? We created a test to confirm that this feature is
    working as expected on both a master and a client site. What flags do you have set
    for replication? I think we need to have you run with replication verbose messages
    set on the client site and possibly other diagnostics in order to determine what is different
    about your setup. We should take that level offline. Verbose messages can generate
    a large amount of output.
    You can contact me at the typical [email protected] and we'll move it
    forward that way. Thanks.

  • How cot create and read files in ALLUSERSPROFILE directory

    Hi,
    I have a program that is to be used both with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. It should create and read a file in ALLUSERSPROFILE, which I have learned to be different directories in XP and the other Windows versions. But after looking all over internet, I can't
    find any clear answer how to do this. I thought the following should work, but it doesn't:
    testfile = fopen("%ALLUSERSPROFILE%/testfile.dat", "r");
    Although the file exist, testfile gets the value of zero. I've also tried other strings instead of "ALLUSERSPROFILE," but no luck. Could anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

    I tried the following:
         SHGetKnownFolderPath( &FOLDERID_ProgramData, 0, 0, &userpath);
    Then the program compiled. But it did not work:
         fopen("%userpath%\\Testfolder\\Testfile.ini", "r");
    did not open the file, although it is there.
    Then I read that this function can't be used with Windows XP, so I
    switched to the deprecated SHGetFolderPath
        TCHAR userpath[MAX_PATH];
         SHGetFolderPath(0, CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA, 0, SHGFP_TYPE_CURRENT, userpath);
    According to the MSDN pages, one then could use the
        PathAppend (userpath, TEXT("Testfolder/Testfile.ini"));
    I then added Shlwapi.h and compiled and got the following error message
         main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __imp__PathAppendW@8
         fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals
    Then I again tried
       fopen("%userpath%\\Testfolder\\Testfile.ini", "r");
    but neither did this work. So now I don’t know what to do.

  • Does anyone know how to upload and download files to the icloud storage?

    Well, it says i have 5g of free storage... but what good is it?  There doesn't seem to be any way to put anything there.
    What am I missing here?

    iCloud does not have a general file syncing service, like Dropbox or Sugarsync.  Only certain types of files can be synced and only by applications/apps that specifically support these files and that support iCloud.  For example, Pages can sync to iCloud and only Pages apps on devices can access these files.  Within DocsToGo, nothing can be synced to iCloud.

    This is a simple SQL question and this forum is for SQLDEveloper, however, this is a question for our SQL*Plus support which can help with this.
