How to maitain Deltas for generic master data source

Hi Friends,
I created a view using MARA and MARC table. This view fields maitained by attributes of ZWMAT_PLT Characteristic.
Now i faced the problem with deltas.
How i need to maitain delta for above view.
please give me solution for above problem.

Hi,
If you have timestamp field in the view it is better use the Timestamp for the generic delta. Else try to include a timestamp field in the view.

Is it not possible to load deltas for a generic master data extractor?
I have created a generic extractor on R/3 table MEAN (EAN number assigned to material). I have also performed the init run which worked fine, but no deltas are being loaded.

Symptom
For the setup of summarization levels and summarization data in the Profitability Analysis a 'Safety delta' of half an hour is used. This means, the system only includes records which exist half hour already. You want to reduce this delta in order to get more current data in reporting.

The reason for the duration of these safety deltas are possible differences in the clocks on different application servers. If the delta is selected too short, when updating the summarization levels/data, records may not be taken into account. In particular the Account-based Profitability Analysis depends on the sufficient length of the delta, so that update processes which take longer do not cause inconsistencies. For the Costing-based Profitability Analysis a lock is set. If not active update processes exist, it fails and the update terminates.
Solution
The attached source code correction is not part of the standard system. With this change the safety delta is set from 30 to 5 minutes. You should only implement this, if exclusively the Costing-based Profitability Analysis is active in your system. If you also use Account-based Profitability Analysis we do not recommend the change for the above-mentioned reasons.

Delta for cubes & master data

Bonjour,
I am a bit confused about some concepts of BW. Hope to get clarified here in good ole SDN.
1. Infocube is said to be ADD only. Yet, its data deletable eg. by request. How do I interpret this? Is it deletable only by requests? How about selectively as detail as single records? How about field level deletion (instead of a whole record)?
2. Is a 'new' image (rec mode "N") = 'after' image (rec mode " ")?
3. How is Repair Request compared to Pseudo Delta? Are they both only and must selectively delete by month / time char only? Can either be deleted by single records?
4. Master data is said to be usually overwritten. How is it so? What Delta type(s) are we talking about by this? How is Master data aggregated? Can it be? What does serialization and duplicate master data processing mean? How can master data prevent duplicates?
What's the usual and possible practices to manage delta for Master data attr,txt,hier?

1. Infocube is said to be add only because it is different from ODS or master data where you can 'merge or overwrite' data. When 2 records are loaded into an Infocube, if they are different in any one field, they will be stored as 2 seperate records (in the fact table of the cube). Whereas if 2 records are loaded into an ODS, and the records are similar in terms of the key of the ODS, only 1 record will be created in the ODS with the second records details overwriting the first if there is a clash.
From a cube you can delete data either selectively by specifying ranges or delete an entire request. You cannot do field level deletions.
2. No they are different. Let us say there is a record with 2 fields Customer and Amount being loaded into an ODS. First record loaded is (Pascal, 10.00). Then there will be a New-image record (Pascal, 10.00,N). After this a second record (Pascal, 15.00) is loaded. After this there will be 3 records.
Pascal, 10.00, New Image
Pascal, -10.00, Before Image
Pascal, 15.00, After Image.
All 3 add to 15.00.
3. Not able to understand your question. Deletion of all requests are I think the same. Selective deletion can be done only for a Infocube not for an ODS. See answer 1.
4. Master data usually changes very little. For eg, a customer 100013 is always 100013. Once in a while his phone number might change. When it does, it is picked up by the delta and the existing record in BW is overwritten. There is only one type of delta for master data. Not sure of what is the exact name. Master data is aggregated by specifying the key to the master data table.
The best practice is to maintain delta only for large master data objects (Customers, Materials etc). For all of these SAP has provided delta-enabled datasources which can be used. For the rest, full-uploads suffice.

Whats the difference (Generic Master Data Source vs Transaction Data Sce)

I have been wondering on whats the difference when creating GENERIC Data Sources:
1.) Transaction Data
2.) Master Data
Pls. dont give an answer like (A Master Data Generic Data Source is used to populate Master Data Info Objects and Transaction data Sources are used to populate ODS and CUBES.)
This definition is FALSE since I can use a "Master Data (Data Source)" to populate my ODS.
They only differ in Process Chain since the Action when loading data using Generic Masterdata Data Source is Attribute Change Run. Unlike when loading ODS using Transaction Data Source will use "Activate ODS Data".
Hope Somebody will clarify this...

at the moment I think it is more or less a grouping information in BW and additionally a information for you, your users, ... what type of data is being loaded thru the datasource.
With grouping I mean just a type of information used for the list that opens if you'll assign a datasource to a infosource.
With type of data I mean some sort of classification of the data for a special application. I can imagine, that the same data can be used as transactional data as well as as master data depending on the application. A good example for this can be the header data. For some applications you have header (transactional) datasources providing a header counter and additonally you have the document number (basically the header information) with some attributes as master data.
May be there is a difference in the function modules that are called to extract the data, I am not sure about this.

How to initialize delta for a new data target

Hi
I have an ODS from which there are several other targets getting updated thru an export datasource. The delta initialization happend some 6 months back. I now have a new ODS into which i need to load the data from the original ODS. How can i initialise the delta to my new target without changing the delta initialization of the other targets and continue the delta for all of them together?
can i use the same initialization for my new target??
If i do a full update and then a initialise w/o data transfer, will the further delta bring the data from the correct point, is there a possiblity of data loss??

Hi Ajay,
the steps are as follows.
1 delete the initialization. open infopackage >> menu scheduler >> Initialization options for source systems >> delete the request thats there.
2. Now go to the Update tab of the infopack >> select option Initialize Delta process >> check the option initialize without Data transfer
3. Goto Schedule tab and start the job.
here the data targets will be all the targets the infopack loads.
4. Create a new infopack
5. goto Data targets tab >> select data targets >> put a check on your new ODS/Cube
6. Goto Update tab >> select the option Full update
7. goto menu Scheduler >> select Repair full request >> put a check on Indicate request as Repair Request >> hit OK
8. Goto schedule tab >> start the job.
9. Continue with the existing Delta infopack that was load the old ODS/Cubes and make sure your new ODS/Cube is also cheked for the delta.

No transfer rules for FI master data sources

Hi all
I didnt get transfer rules for some of the FI master datasources.

0NEG_POSTNG_TEXT
0ITEMSELFLG_TEXT
When I right click on datasource->create transfer rules->Only other option is enabled.WHen I say continue I am getting this error
*Infosource(transaction data) is not known.
How to resolve this isssue.

Double click on the data source and go to edit mode, system automatically provides the corresponding BI content infosources if any and install the same.
Not all the fields will be mapped with BI info objects. Only necessary ones as defined in BI content will be available for you.
If you feel the mapping is incomplete you can modify the same according to the requirement.

Creating Transformation in 3.5 Version for a Master DATA Source

Hi ,
Currently i am working in 7 version.
I have Created a new master data info object Through a Template from a standard info object 0Ven_comp.
This Standard Info object 0Ven_comp already has a data source 0VEN_COMPC_ATTR , where it is getting values.
Now i want to use the same data source for my new info object which is created as template based on the 0ven_comp.
Can anyone please tell me how i can use the same data source for my new info object and that too i need to create transformation in 3.5 version.

You cannot use the same datasource with two different versions.
Either it should be 7.0 or 3.x version.
You can create a copy of datasource and you can replicate it in BI system.

How to use LSMW on CRM for bulk master data creation?

Hello Experts,
I need your help to able to use LSMW on CRM for bulk master data creation. Below is described my detailed requirement; -
We have CRM 2007 integrated with SAP ISU (ECC6.0). As per business process all Business Master Data (BP details, Business Agreement details etc) and Technical Master Data (Connection Object, PoD etc.) is created in CRM and then it is replicated in ISU. We are going to start Assembly Test soon. Now we need to have all master data in place. Tool we want to use is LSMW.
Now can you help me right from scratch on how to use LSMW for bulk master data creation in CRM?
Please give me documents / links etc that is relevant.

These are some information which might be useful to you.
What is LSMW?
Legacy System Migration Workbench or LSMW is SAP standard program that can be used to easily load / change master data or transactions in SAP without any programming at all. It can be used to upload data at cutover, such as: open orders, contracts, materials, vendors, stock on hand. It can also be used in a production system to make changes to existing data. Very limited authorization checks are available on the transaction, so the use of it must be very well controlled.
One input file can be used to create all the views of the material master. For all the material types. Even if different views and fields are used for the different materials.
Steps to take
1. Create text file with data to be loaded
2. Set up and run LSMW

you can achieve this but make sure that you select repair full option for full load IP.

Delta Extraction from 0ASSET_AFAB data source

Hi All,
I reinstalled the data source 0ASSET_AFAB_ATTR and 0ASSET_AFAB_TEXT data sources for delta feature.
When i tried to extract the delta its gave the error message RSM 340 ( full and delta init was successful).
I implemented the OSS notes 599896 ,613273 but no luck.
Could you please kindly help me if some one already successfully extracting the delta from this data source.
( Full load is killing our production system its taking more than 90 min to finish)
Its seems this data source supports delta type "AIE" .
Could you please some body put some light on this.

Hello Martin,
the error is pointing to a problem on the source system. So you have to look in R/3. Run the extractor checker in R/3 using transaction RSA3.
It took me a while to figure this one out. Here are the steps you should follow:
1) In R/3 activate the BAdi FIAA_BW_DELTA_UPDATE in transaction SE19 if it is not active.
2) Now run a delta init (with data transfer!) for 0ASSET_ATTR_TEXT (and not 0ASSET_AFAB_TEXT).
3) Once this is successful, do a delta init for 0ASSET_AFAB_ATTR again with data transfer.
4) Now you can load 0ASSET_AFAB_TEXT and finally the 0FI_AA* transaction data. Also the deltas for the master data should work now.

For any master data lets say, Material Master, for this you need to create a view
based on your requirement by selecting one or more tables into your view and
keeping all the required fields in the view as viewfields and go to RS02 create
generic data source, select the view option as source and put the view, save and
activate, at the same time set the delta pointer as to whether Numericpointer/date/timestamp..this way you can create a generic DS then transfer the stru. and at the BW side replicate the source system..and so on..

I have a weird qns. cropping most of the time. .For generic, naturally you set and create Funtion module to enable the DELTA..
Where as dont know how to see DELTA enable setting for TIMESTAMPS in the STANDARD Datasource...?
Can anyone help how to find for every datasource and also when we enhance the data source how do you go and change the settings or where to check the delta TIMESTAMP settings?
pls give possible step by step and clear answers to inderstand easily.

As per my knowledge
Delta records are directly selected from the R/3 tables using a timestamp mechanism from Timestamp table BWOM2_TIMEST.
Delta records are directly transferred to BW and no record is written to the BW delta queue.
when we have a delta dataset selected successfully, the SAP R/3 system logs two time stamps that delimit a selection interval for a DataSource in table BWOM2_TIMEST in fields AEDAT ,AETIM ,TS_LOW ,TSS_HIGH.
Table BWOM2_TIMEST serves as a document for loading history from R3. It also provides defined restart points following incorrect data requests.BWOM2_TIMEST is a standard ABAP report available in SAP.It provide the functionality of resetting of the date time of last Delta or Init Extraction from an OLTP system.
ROOSGENDLM is also a standard SAP table available within R/3 SAP systems depending on our SAP version and release level. It stores the delta pointer for each executed Data Source.For the next delta extraction, the delta pointer is therefore extracted from this table and the corresponding delta data is extracted from different DB tables.
The editing of these tables however is not recommended but they are very helpful when we loose delta because of some reason then we can just change ROOSGENDLM table to desired date and it will bring delta from that date .Very helpful in case of rollback of system .Before that we need to maintain entry fro that data source in BWOM2_TIMEST .

Generice Master Data - How ?

I have a need to create a generic master data. I have the code tested as an ABAP Program and it extracts exactly as it should. But how can I put together a generic data source, and this will be full load. Could anyone specify the steps to do it. I have copied the RSAX function group function ZRSAX_BIW_GET_MASTER_DATA. But not sure how to continue futher. There is no need for info package selection or anything. It is required to get the employee manager relation using ORGUNIT from employee. Any ideas or if you have a function module available please send.
