How to manage podcasts?

I want to subscribe to a podcast, keep all unplayed episodes, and play back from oldest to newest. If I select "keep all" then literally every available episode is downloaded. After marking the 50+ I've already heard before I got the phone as played, the podcasts don't go away. If I delete them and change settings, they are all downloaded again. The windows phone desktop app doesn't appear to manage subscriptions, it mostly just transfers files. How is this supposed to work? I really want it to but this just doesn't seem right.

Previously on my Lumia 800, I was using Zune to subscribe and sync from laptop to phone.
On the 920, I now use a free app from the store called 'Podcast'. The interface is a bit weird but it works for me but doesn't support video. Benefit is that I can manually sync direct to phone, no laptop involveed.
However I understand their is a better app (not free) that I will try, called 'Podcatcher'.

  • How to manage podcasts within iTunes?

Is iTunes just really deficient in managing podcasts? I just started using iTunes since I just bought an iPod, and I am subscribed to 10 or so podcasts. Some podcasts I like to keep all episodes, some I only want to keep the most recent. But it seems like the management features within iTunes only has global podcast settings (ie not for individual podcasts).
If that's true, that that will make it a huge pain in the butt to keep track of my podcasts.

    oh, yeah.
You can also turn off the 'sync' function under the iPod device settings.
If you do this then you can manage your podcasts manually. This will allow you to have podcasts that are partially played without being deleted by the evil 'sync' function.
The downside to this is that you'll have to manually select and drag each podcast to the iPod. You'll also have to manually delete each file from the ipod.
hope that helps. not the best way, but it will work.

  • How to manage Podcasts as normal files?

I have Podcasts that I have updated and auto-deleted regularly. Sometimes, I want to treat a few files differently, and save them or put them in smart playlists while not having them show up on the main Podcast menu of mine. However, as soon as I delete them from my Podcasts folder they disappear from everywhere else. How can I stop that?
Alternatively, if I right-click an individual episode and mark it to not be auto-deleted, will it apply to just that episode, or the entire Podcast?

I'm marking this answered to get rid of it and I made another thread on the subject anyway. I'm still really annoyed that this can't be done though.

  • How to manage podcast episodes by: marking favorites, writing notes, etc.

I realize this is probably only a dream, but I would love a Podcasts app in which I could mark certain episodes within a station I listen to as *favorite* so that I could come back to these favorite episodes from time to time and review their content.  What would be really cool is if I could not only mark them as favorites but also write a small note to myself as to the main info points from the podcast episode, so that when reviewing things, I could find what I am looking for easier.  Since I glean information from the many podcasts I listen to for business purposes, having a library of the single best episodes (an acompanying notes) would really enhance my podcast experience.
Is there any way to do this with the Podcasts app?
Is there a different app I should explore for this?
Does itunes support something like this (or for that matter any other type of app for my iphone 5)?
    Thanks much.

i dont know how the programs work, the ftp and rss updater and whatever, but if u use feedburner, or u can change what the name of the file it edits is, or u can create a .htacess that roots it, just stick all old episodes under what it updates in the file iWeb will update and when it updates, new episodes go on top

  • How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?

Like the subject line says: How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?
With the previous version of iTunes, when I plugged in my iPod, I could select the iPod, select podcasts, and manually delete episodes. With the new iTunes, I can't select individual episodes when looking at my iPod through iTunes. Is my only option to Sync? If so, why is that my only option?
This question probably has a simple answer, and I'm just not seeing it.

    Rock,
I think I figured out a way to do what you want to do - which is the same way that I use Itunes with my Ipod. (My Itunes libary was destroyed last year so I can no longer auto synch my Ipod as I would lose thousands of songs).
Funnily enough, I discovered this new way of manually moving podcasts while trying to figure out what cpragman was trying to say (I never could - he must be smarter than me, as I couldn't get his method to work).
    1. Open up your Itunes in your regular Library view. Choose Pocasts from the left hand side (either in the sidebar if you have that enabled, or from the little "radio" icon if you don't.)
    2. Mouse to the podcast you want to place on your Ipod.
    3. Right-click it.  A long menu will pop up.
    4. Move to the "Add to Playlist" option.  As you hover, all your playlists will be visible. But at the very top will be the name of your Ipod itself (whatever you named it originally).  Choose THAT name, and voila! That podcast will now copy to your Ipod and be easily available when you disconnect.
A nice feature of this method is that you can shift-click several podcasts at once and do the same thing, and all your selected podcasts will copy over (if you're like me and update your Ipod only every few weeks).
Hope this helps - let me know if it works for you!

  • How to manage Music Videos and Podcasts of my iPod manually in iTune?

Can anyone tell me how to manage Music Videos and Podcasts of my iPod manually in iTune? Because I can't see the Music Videos and the Podcast section in iTune under Device when my iPod is connected to my computer. Thanks

iTunes doesn't have a separate *Music Videos* section. In iTunes these are just part of the main Music library. To manually drag a music video to yout iPod drag it onto the iPod or a compatible playlist. To remove, look for it in Music on the iPod and delete.
I think podcasts only work properly when placed on the iPod via the sync tabs. If you manually drag and drop then the files may get treated as general audio & video files.

  • How to move podcasts from iTunes to iPod...nano 2nd gen with iTunes 8.2.1,

...that don't have the little blue dot indicating that they've not been listened to? These podcasts aren't sync'ed to iPod bec iPod thinks that they have been listed to and they haven't. How to 'restore' these podcasts to their original 'unheard' status? The solution appears to manually manage podcasts, but I couldn't follow directions which I think were intended for iTunes 9 --such as find the Source and go from there (no "Source" on my iTunes).

You can also change your settings from iTunes under the 'podcasts' tab of your ipod. If you set it to sync all episodes instead of all unplayed episodes it should work just fine.
If you wanted to pick which podcasts sync but don't want to manually manage, you could also create a smart playlist that chooses all 'checked' podcasts and sync that playlist instead. Then only the podcasts you check will be synced, regardless of whether or not they've been played.

  • How to manage the iPod shuffle manually

I have an I Pod Classic which I registered on the Dell and it is managed through i Tunes which holds my 'library' of songs . I recently bought an IPod shuffle and registered it on the same machine. I missed the opportunity to manage it manually and it loaded the shuffle with a selection of the current library [ it could not load all the songs as it obviously does not have the capacity.]
I want to know how to view what is on the Shuffle and how to edit it manually. The manual I have downloaded , page 17 , gives advice such as :
"In iTunes select iPod shuffle in the list of devices and then click the summary tab. In the Options select 'Manually manage music.'
When in I Tunes I cannot find the list of devices and therefore have no access to the Shuffle libary or how to change it.
    Please offer help.

    Zevoneer wrote:
*What I cannot work out is how to bring up what is already on the Shuffle*
Click on the iPod icon in the source list, this will bring up tabs in the right hand pane that will let you view the content of the iPod and choose how to manage and add music to it. You can read more here: Syncing Music to iPod shuffle
3rd Gen shuffle, like real iPods, now has Music, Audiobooks, Podcasts and
playlists shown under it the left hand pane. ALL the content shows in the
the right side pane when Music is clicked... This is a bit different
from the Contents tab that performed the same function for previous shuffles.

  • Trouble manually managing podcasts on iPod nano.

I want to automatically sync songs on my iPod nano, but manually manage the podcasts.
In this setup I have trouble deleting the podcasts. After much testing I have come to believe this it is a sofware bug. I will now describe the way to reproduce this 'bug'. I want to know if others have the same problem, or if I'm doing something wrong.
    Setup : Windows XP. iTunes 6.0.3.23 , Nano 4Gb 1.1
    1. I have setup iTunes to not synchronise podcasts. I've set it to "manually manage podcasts". How then should I get podcasts on my iPod in such a configuration? By manually placing the podcast into a playlist and then syncing that playlist to the iPod. Well.... let's try that.
    2. I create a playlist MyPlaylist and manually add two songs ( Song1 , Song2 ) and two podcasts (Podcast1, Podcast2) to the playlist.
    3. I go to the preferences of the iPod and select to sync MyPlaylist
    4. I let iTunes update the iPod
    5. When I browse the iPod from within iTunes I can confirm that as expected both songs and both podcast are now on the iPod
    6. I remove Song2 and Podcast2 from the playlist.
    7. Again I let iTunes update the iPod
    8. When I browse the iPod from within iTunes I see that Song2 has been deleted as expected. But Podcast2 still remains on the iPod. I can not select it and delete it. It just sits there wasting space. If I look at the playlist on the iPod I can see that Podcast2 is not listed in the playlist.
Keep in mind that I do not wish to remove Podcast2 from iTunes. I only wish to remove it from my iPod.
Even if I choose to not sync MyPlaylist at all, the two Podcasts remain on the iPod.
My workaround is to temporarily select that I will manually manage the songs on the iPod. Now I can select the podcast and delete it.
So. Do others have this same weird behavior? Am I doing something wrong?

I tried dragging the podcast over to my Ipod Nano. While I succeeded in getting the podcast over into the Nano, it shows up in songs, not under the Podcast list.
Are you supposed to specify it is a podcast somehow, or a specific folder to drag it to?

  • How to Manage the Resource Master in Primavera Enterprise Version

We are using P6 enterprise version in our company having a central database. We had created our own unique resources and standardised across the enterprise and is Admin protected. However we often have to import some schedules sent by our consultant/client. In those schedules they have their own resources.
So when we import these schedules, it also imports the resources along with it and pollutes our resource master.
Can anyone let me know, how to manage such a situation.
    Regards

We have met this issue. You have few ways to deal with it, but each has its own +ve and -ve.
1- You may create a separate "Working" db into which you can import those files and keep them there only. Your master db shall be used for maters and your own program only.
2- You may do the same for checking the resourses, vet them before importing into the final db
3- P3 and MSP importation allows you to select the node to which the resources will be located. We have created a resource node called "Imported Resources" and dumped all those resources into it. Our users don't have access to that node so those resources can only be used on the imported program and can't be assigned to any other program / activity
4- Enforce your supply chain to use the same resource list. We managed to do that for our main and subcontractors. That formed part of their contracts.

  • How I Managed to Install Windows 8.1 Pro on an iMac 27-inch, Late 2013

As is typical with many of my Boot Camp installs, this one did *not* goes as smoothly as planned. This installation was particularly troublesome, so I thought I would share how I managed to set up Boot Camp on a brand new iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) using a Windows 8.1 Pro DVD and an external Apple SuperDrive. These are the steps I took:
Download Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1721)
Copy Boot Camp Support Software to empty MS-DOS (FAT)-formatted USB key
Run Boot Camp Assistant and select third option only (Install Windows 7 or later version)
Computer would reboot after Boot Camp Assistant finished but would boot back into Mac environment and not continue Windows installation
Boot computer holding down option key and select Windows (with DVD icon) and go through initial setup process (could go as  far as trying to format Boot Camp partition as NTFS and then got stuck)
Quit Windows installer and reboot computer holding down option key and select EFI Boot
    Run Windows installer
These same steps worked for another iMac (same model) that I set up later the same day.

Note: These types of discs or activities are not supported by DVD or CD sharing:
    DVD movies.
    Audio CDs.
Copy protected discs such as game discs.
Install discs for an operating system such as Microsoft Windows (for use with Boot Camp), or Mac OS X.
    Burn a CD or DVD

  • How to manage one wsp and dll for multiple clients in farm environment

    1. There is a product which is developed using C sharp , jquery,CSS and sharepoint object models which have been packaged into .wsp file. Whenever we introduce new functionality to the product we used to branch the
previous code as a version , say Version 1.0 and new functionality of the product will in another solution. This is how we are managing the code in TFS as versions. Each newer version will have new functionalities. We do not give latest functionality for all
the clients. Each client is having its own version of functionality. Technically in order to access the functionality, the wsp solution should be present in the solution repository which is available in SharePoint central administrator site. This solution
will be deployed on the client’s site. We are following the above process in SharePoint standalone installation where we used to purchase dedicated server per client and installed sql, SharePoint foundation 2010 as standalone installation and adding the client
related version of the code to the solution repository. Later host on the site which is created for that client purpose. This process is same for all the clients where we purchase individual server for each client .
Now we want to host our product in farm environment of sharepoint foundation 2010 where we are going to try 3 level architecture.
    • SQL Server-In this sever we are going to install sql server 2008R2 standard edition. Which should serve the database service for all the web applications/sitecollections which we are going to create in Web front end server.
    • Application server- In this server we are going to install the sharepoint as farm and will install search server express for serving search functionality for our product
    • Web front end server- In this server we are going to add this server to Sharepoint farm which we have created in application server. Here we are going to create web applications and site collections for all the clients.
In this scenario how to manage multiple versions of same wsp solution?
Another major issue w.r.t the architecture of the product and new approach for client deployment as follow. We have CSS, jquery files for serving the functionality. These files have been mapped to 14 hive folder. If any changes we do one of the jquery file or
css file which is meant for latest version and not for old version, then how to manage this new functionality for that particular css or jquery file in 14 hive folder, since there is only one 14 hive folder. What is the best practice to make this happen? Another
thing is, how to manage dll files for individual client?

It sounds like you have a farm scoped solution at work. In that case you can only have a single instance of it per farm, you'd have to branch each version so they appear to be seperate solutions entirely (thus ruining your clients upgrade process).
Bluntly i don't think a single farm can manage all your user environments.

I am trying to find out, how to manage photos from all these devices using one account on iMAC. Second question is if there is any finction in iPhoto that can publish images to NAS server? Second alternative for me is to byu iCloud drive space and use Family sharing for publishing photos. Bellow text schema is attached, it is only my idea and i dont know if this could work like this. Did anyone somehow solved this configuration? Thanks

All devices signed into the same iCloud account will finish up with the same contacts. Of course if prior to joining iCloud two family members each had an entry for Uncle Fred, then you will finish up with two contact cards for Uncle Fred, and so on. If you tidy this up on your computer then the changes will propagate to everyone else.
