How to monitor a VIP's performance?

Could I get any advice regards how to get the statistics of a VIP performed and how to monitor it?
Any comments will be appreciation.

How much is too much? :-)
We are monitoring parameters like flows/second and active local connections but I have been looking at parameters telling us how far we can go before seeing performance decrease.
We are terminating SSL on the CSS and if about 800 SSL sessions per seconds per SSL module is the limit, what would be a good parameter to watch?
I couldn't find anything in the MIBS that tell us how many SSL sessions/sec are served.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system.
I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit.
Build server, running Team City
Staging server
SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005
I have some troubles with the setup in that the host monitor remains responsive at all times, even though the VM's are seemingly working at 100% cpu and are very sluggish and unresponsive. (I have asked a separate question about that.)
So the question here is: What is the best way to monitor how the physical CPU's are actually utilized? The reason I am asking is that I am being told that i cannot reliably use the task manager to monitor CPU usage in a VM.

First, you have to remember that in Hyper-V that the "host" is called a parent partition and it really just like a virtualized guest with special permissions and roles. Just like any other child/guest, when you open up Task Manager, you can not see the CPU
usage of the other children on the server.

To summarize his post, you need to check three things to get an accurate picture of CPU utilization:
View the CPU usage on each guest - this is available through Hyper-V Manager or Performance Monitor.
CPU usage due to context switching - this is the perfmon counter called % Hypervisor Run Timeunder Hyper-V Hypervisor Virtual Processor
Child partition worker process - vmwp.exe running on the parent partition (1 per child). This handles Hyper-V operations like saving
state.

How to monitor end user response times?

Hi everyone.
I'm using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.5.0 for monitoring our development environment. We have many products but my focus is on a web application that is running on an Oracle Application Server. I need to monitor the reponse time of every HTTP request to check if this time is in the range of our SLAs.
I've seen that OHS monitoring shows the mean response time, resource consumption, etc. But I haven't found any that lets me do more detailed monitoring (at the level o HTTP request).
I'm reading right now 3 books about it but it does't mention this feature (just in case):
- Middleware Management with Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10gR5
- Oracle Enterprise Manager Administration 10.2.0.5 (from Oracle Library)
- Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Contro lInstallation And Configuration 10.2.0.5.0
¿Does anybody knows if Enterprise Manager have this feature?

Sorry for a long delay.
The answer was so generic and didn't help too much. But today, after several days of research I found how to monitor the user perceived performance by using "End-User Performance Monitoring". In theory this feature lets me register a Web Server and monitor its access log and also create a SLAs monitor based on it.
Right now I'm reading a lot about it just and trying of enable it to an OHS. I did it for an Oracle Web Cache.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your interest and if someone find it useful, when I get more functionality working, I'll post something here.

Database Performance Monitoring is a little more complicate than running a query to get ratio. And different version of Oracle has different tools and utilities to help you.

In the SL Reports configuration steps, we can configure this option : Select Business Processes For SL Report. I did a lot of tests but it does not work.

Hello,
it depends a little on what you want to do. If you use the pure CCMS monitoring with the table ALTRAMONI you get average response time per instance and you only get new measurements once the status changes from green to yellow or red.
In order to get continuous measurements you should look into Business Process Monitoring and the different documentations under https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Libary --> Technical Information. E.g. the PDF Setup Guide for Application Monitoring describes this "newer" dialog performance monitor. Probably you have to click on the calendar sheet in the Media Libary to also see older documents as well. As the Business Process Monitoring integrates with BW (there is also a BI Setup Guide in the Media LIbrary) you can get trendlines there. This BW integration also integrates back with SL Reporting.
Some guidance for SL Reporting is probably given under https://service.sap.com/rkt-solman but I am not 100% sure.

How to monitor page hit rates?

I see a lot of references in docs and white papers to cache hit rates for the Parallel Page Engine, but I've not found any documentation on how to monitor this system-wide (only how to turn on portlet statistics and get a manual page-by-page look at cache success/failure).
Is there any way to determine the cache hit rate for the PPE?

I'm sorry you seem to be experiencing some problems with the support and documentation of the portal software.
The link above was posted on May 1st 2002, and was posted as an absolute link rather than a dynamic product link. As the document name is revved the link will change, hence why an old link from the forums will no longer work.
The document you seek is here. I assume that by referring to webcache you mean that when you add the XLF logging format options webcache complains about x-ecid (for example). This indicates that you have not applied the core iAS patchset which is required to allow webcache to understand these extended log parameters. I believe that the document refers to this as a requirement to get 'full functionality' - perhaps that is a little esoteric, I'll change it in the next rev.
If you continue to be unsuccessful in deploying this note please let me know what errors you're seeing and I'll see what I can do. I'm working on an end-to-end performance kit at the moment that will supercede this document so I'll take your comments on board when revving this area.

How to monitor phyisical memory utilization

Can anyone let me know how to monitor the physical memory utilization using monitors/rules?
The existing monitor which is there in windows server management pack monitors the virtual memory where as i wanted to monitor physical memory

You have to create the monitor yourself.
This monitor is called a Static threshold performance monitor. In the counter list, choose % commited bytes

How to monitor service failover in RAC?

Ok, I'm sure I'm being thick here, but i've been looking all morning and I can't figure out how to monitor when a service fails over from a preferred to available node.
I can't see any way to do it in OEM, and nor can I work out if it's supported by FAN
Does anyone have any suggestions before I start screaming/clawing at the screen?

Hello Buddy,
One of your users are using FAILOVER cause values SELECT and BASIC on query output. Another users connected on that moment no able to use FAILOVER probably caused by misconfigured TNSNAMES.ora file. Check it on client or apps server machines.

WLS - How to monitor it?

I'm curious on how others are monitoring their WLS remotely. Currently we
are using MRTG, but it isn't a highly desireable way, because we have to
refrence explicit OIDs that change occasionally, forcing us to go back and
re-do all of our checks again. So I was wondering how others are
monitoring/graphing their WLS performance, as well as any other tools that
exist for it. The maim problem I'm having is the fact that our SNMP is at a
non-standard port, and I haven't been able to find a COM object that will
query SNMP on anything but 161 - which makes it impossible to script.

I have done that in a project (not Portal, but pure Java Application, should be no difference), working fine.
The steps are as follows:
- create MBean Server (e.g. MBeanServerFactory.createMBeanServer("test");)
- create your MBeans
- make them accessible to clients (register the MBeans in the server)
- query them from clients
