How to obtain weight reading from PS311 USB postal scale

Hi,
I just purchased a PS311 USB postal scale According to the minimal documentation that came with it, it says "...Connect the flat plug of the cable to an available USB port. Windows/Mac will automatically recognize the scale and install the appropriate driver for weight display only. It then goes on to say that in order to calculate and print postage, I can set up an account with stamps.com, etc., where software can be downloaded to interface with the scale, so apparently it's possible to access the numeric data from the scale over the USB connection.
At this point, I don't plan to use the scale for postage purposes, but I'd like to be able to sample the current weight text to enter into documents, database fields, etc. I'm a software engineer, so I'm not afraid of coding, but I don't really know where to start. I expected this to work like a barcode scanner, where the values come into the system as if they were typed from a keyboard. Has anyone had any success interfacing with a device like this?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi Templeton,
Thanks for the information. I was kind of afraid of that. Apparently, it doesn't seem to work automatically for Windows, either, as I finally tracked down the manufacturer's website. http://www.elane.net/index.php?go=USB_pcsoftware has a list of Windows DLLs for interfacing with their scales, and based on the the dates listed for their Windows DLL (Revision 1.0 is April 9, 2010, and Revision 1.1 is April 12, 2010), interface software for these scales hasn't been around too long. I'll see if anyone else has a workable solution over the next few days, and after that, I might try posting this in the tech forum.
Thanks again,
Ken

How can I transfer music from an USB drive to the iPod. I can see the music and play it on the computer, but the iPod tells me to use iTunes to sync. The music is not on iTunes. It has worked in the past.....tks

These are just playlists. The songs there are really not duplicates of the songs. They are just a different location for accessing them. Some playlists can be deleted, some cannot. Ones that are created by iTunes cannot be deleted. Ones that you create can be. The Recently Added and the 90's cannot.

That might be bad news.  My company actually assigned an engineer to buy every USB to COM converter he could find and test them all with as many apps as possible.  There were many models that were problematic.  You might need to just try another brand (or two (dozen!)).
Still, check the Device Manger or MAX just in case you get lucky...

hi all, i've just switched to apple after many years using MS OS!  I'm now using iMac desktop 21.5" with 2.9GHz processor and latest Yosemite software.
How do I transfer files from one USB memory stick to another USB memory stick on the iMac?  cheers, linley94

Plug in the memory stick and it should open then create a New Folder and drag and drop the contents from the memory stick to the new folder you created. Remove the original memory stick all the information should be in the new folder you created. Now plug in the new memory stick with nothing on it when it opens drag the folder with the contents from the original memory stick folder and all into the new memory stick that opened and there you have it.

    Running Acrobat X Pro.
Occasionally, a website with a PDF triggers Reader to be installed on my system.
NEVER want reader (that's why i bought Pro).
How do i keep Reader from EVER being installed?

I don't get a pop-up. Something triggers the Reader installer to be loaded on my system. This occurs without my knowledge. Then, the next time i go to open a PDF, instead of it opening immediately with Acrobat Pro, I get the first screen of the installation stuff for Reader (Accept/Decline Terms of use, etc.). At this point, i get out of the install, go into control panel and uninstall Reader (which is listed as a loaded program, even though i haven't finished the install). After i uninstall reader and open a PDF, it opens correctly with Acrobat Pro. This happens once or twice a month at least. Is it possible that the Adobe Acrobat Update Service task loads Reader on my system at some interval? How do i block Reader form EVER being installed or loaded?

  • How to install Windows 7 from a USB drive!

This is even easier than installing Windows XP from a USB drive, and will also reduce the time taken to install Windows 7, it took me about 15 minutes!
The advice in the guide is also applicable to installing Vista.
    You need basically:
a USB flash drive at least 4GB in size
    a Windows 7 DVD
    To sum up:
Format your USB drive, with the NTFS filesystem
Open Command Prompt as an administrator, and run the Bootsect.exe program off the Windows 7 CD to make the USB drive bootable
Copy the contents of the Windows 7 DVD to the USB drive
Restart your PC, press F11 (or whichever key it is) to access the Boot menu, and select your USB drive to boot from

I have done this and it is simple.
I cleaned and (re)formated an 8GB flash drive under Windows7 using diskpart.  I chose quick format and a fat filesystem.  It doesn't need to be ntfs.  I had diskpart mark the partition active.  I copied the DVD contents to the flash drive.  I also made a folder on it for motherboard drivers.
After that, I booted the drive on a new machine.  Windows7 setup came up, and didn't find any hard drives, other than the USB flash drive.  I clicked the button to load drivers, and pointed it to the folder I had copied them to on the flash.  Windows installed without problems.
Hi bnborg..Do u mind sharing with me your motherboard driver folder? I have the MSI U135DX Netbook and each time I hit the button to install Windows 7 it asks me for some mobo driver...Think i might need it to get tru with a successful install..

  • How do install Windows 7 from a USB optical drive?

iirc, you won't be able to or at least you shouldn't, it will take much longer than using a usb install
    CHECKLIST
    use only a +8gb USB2 flash drive
disconnect ALL devices except kb, mouse
    STEPS
    do a PRAM reset
open disk utility, confirm you have 1 partition (‘mac HD’ unless you renamed it) and repair permissions TWICE
    dl a windows ISO
insert your usb flash drive and open boot camp assistant, choose all options making sure you used the new ISO just dl'd
if you get an error that the windows support software is unavailable, manually dl it here, put it on a separate USB2 drive and install by clicking setup.exe after windows is installed

  • How to obtain a URL from a path in a class' method?

    Hey everyone!
Newbie here needing to convert the following method from a jsp page into a class for one of our applications.
I have a method in a class which takes a path (as a string). However, I can't seem to figure out how to have java output the corresponding URL in a jsp page.
For example, in the jsp file, I would provide something like:
    "./../../../../../../temp/gfx/" as the path.
The "getRealPath()" method converts it nicely to a URL. However, I can't seem to figure out how to use this method within a class file. Is there a way to obtain the URL from a class' method? If so, how?
    --- old code below ---
    ServletContext application = getServletConfig().getServletContext();
String msg = "";//#Either the IMG tag or message to be returned.
    File dir = new File(application.getRealPath(IMAGE_DIRECTORY));

    Thanks for that hint!
Also, we're using Websphere... is there an easy way to take a partial url passed as a string and find the full path for it?
    Example:
    /images/today/
and have it automatically converted to:
    F:/Inetpub/wwwroot/images/today/
    automatically in java?
Or is this something where both a full system path and URL need to be passed?
    Thanks!
