How to open all subfolders within a folder

I have a rather large folder of photos with many subfolders and further subfolders. At least a couple hundred folders.
I would like to open them all so I can compare by name looking for duplicates and for size so I can delete the very small ones.
Can someone tell me how to open them all?

This is great! In the off chance anyone else is trying to do this, this is also useful if you have Papers and you want to switch to Mendeley. Papers keeps PDFs all organized by year and then author so the PDFs are all nested in subfolders. If you option-click the triangle next to the Papers folder, it will then show all the PDFs. Select All and then drag over the whole thing into Mendeley. I just imported my entire collection in under a minute. Glad I looked this up!

How to open all bookmarks in a folder

Hello,
I've had a longstanding question regarding the behavior of bookmark folders and the Command/Ctrl"shortcut" that acts as if selecting Open All in Tabs.
Why does the menu open when I Command click on a bookmark folder from the bookmarks toolbar? It forces the user to "click out" to exit the menu to continue. This essentially negates the benefit of the Command click shortcut. If I have to click twice, I may as well open the bookmark folder normally and select Open All in Tabs.
I'm assuming that Command/Control click is intended to be a shortcut feature to open all the bookmarks contained within a folder on the toolbar. It seems like unwanted functionality to have that menu open. If someone is trying to use the "shortcut" they don't intend to make a selection from the menu and wouldn't need it to open.
Let me know how I need to proceed. I'm not sure if this is a really old bug, a feature request, or just something I'm missing. If you could point me in the direction of an add-on or configuration parameter that would allow me to change this on my own, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

I never noticed that glitch with {Ctrl + Click} on a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar before you mention it now. I have always used a Middle-click to open all the bookmarks in a folder, the downside is that it opens new tabs and doesn't overwrite the tab that is already open.

How to close all subfolders in a folder

I have seen this question, or similar, in several places, but haven't seen an answer. Sometimes the question is not well stated or understood. So, here goes one more time.
Suppose you have a folder named House. Inside House are subfolders named Kitchen, Bedroom1, Bedroom2, Bathroom......
Now, after browsing through all the subfolders inside House, they are all open, showing their internal files, and filling up the screen, makeing a cluttered mess.
I would like a simple command to close all the subfolders inside House in order to clean up the mess.
Is there a way to do this with an existing command, script, or Automator?

My reply above had a lot more in it, but it got lost, so here goes.
The keystroke combo opt-click closes the main folder and all the subfolders, so you can't actually see what happened until you reopen the main folder. Then you see all the internal folders are closed. My main use for this function it to leave the main folder open while closing all the subfolders. To do this requires reopening the main folder. There are several options:
1) opt-click followed by click closes the main folder and all the subfolders, then repoens the main folder with all the subfolders closed.
2) opt-click followed by opt-click first closes the main folder and all the subfolders, then reopens the main folder with all the subfolders open again (back where you started from).
I tried to make an Automator macro that would do 1) with one mouse click (with suitable modifier keys), but I didn't know enough to make it work. I could get automator to do it while Automator was open by clicking on Run, but I couldn't get a macro that would work directly from a mouse click without opening Automator. Tried the same thing in Keyboard Maestro with the same results.
I would love to have something like ctrl-opt-click that would do the whole sequence 1) above in one stroke.
Oh well, it works fine with several steps.

How do I generate a Report that lists all items in a certain
subfolder, including all subfolders?
For instance how to list all items in the Examples folder and
below (e.g all items), or how to list all items for the
folder /Examples/Product1 and below?
I need to provide a read-only view of the items in a report etc
for one user-group. There might be a better way than a
report...!?

The spaces in the folder structure got stripped off...

Upgraded to Firefox 23 and now my yahoo bookmarks don't have the option to open all tabs in a folder. How can I do this.

The option to open all tabs in a folder is not available any more on my yahoo toolbar. On this computer and my home computer which I just upgraded to firefox 23 and that option disappeared. I need to open all tabs in a folder at one.

Hi ziccs, is the missing feature to open a group of bookmarks all at once in separate tabs?
I haven't explored the Yahoo! toolbar in detail, but it was just updated recently. I noticed the description "new user interface" on the versions page. You also can use that page to re-install the earlier version and see whether the missing function returns.

How to open "All Tabs" from previously shown pages history. I am not asking about "Reopen from last session". I am asking about how to open all tabs from previous webpage links from a past date from history, currently its allowing me to select each page link manually by clicking it.

Select the first item you wish to open, scroll down to the last, Shift-click that one & all those between should be selected too. Double-click on them & they should all start to open... or you can copy & then drag/paste into a new or existing bookmarks folder.

Locking all files within a folder.

Basic question: Is there a way to lock a folder so all the files and subfolders contained within it are also locked?
I'm trying to protect an entire folder of items from deletion or modification. As it stands, if I lock a folder, it protects the folder itself, but if I go to any files or subfolders within that folder, I can delete/modify to my hearts content.

Hello! The script did exactly what I wanted... thanks! It locked all the files and folders in my iTunes Music folder.
Problem is, that didn't solve my problem, because I can still delete the locked files from within iTunes, without being prompted for a password.
Any other way to accomplish this? That in order to delete or modify any of the files in the iTunes music folder, you must have the admin password?

For Power Pivot it means that you can get rid of all your data, but Keep Relations, measures, ..everything.
Just import your tables once in order to get the connections right and move on.

How can I open all webpages within one window, using tabs?

As new user I am missing the opportunity to open a link with a new tab. Firefox opens it often within a new window. Using CTRL can solve it, but I'm not used to that.
I used IE and IE has a setting to open everything within a new tab, instead of in a new window.
Is something like that possible for Firefox?
(I read something like that some website needs to be opened with a new window, because it would show better. To me that is nonsense, because I can decide for myself how to open a page.)
So please add a setting for that, I think it would please more people than just me.

In the Tools menu select Options to open the options window. In the options window go to the Tab panel and make sure the setting "Open new windows in a new tab" is selected.

How to open all of your favourite sites inside a folder in Safari

Hi! I didn't see anybody asking something like this... I have a folder in Favorites menu, and I want to open that submenu and click over "Open all in tabs" (or however it is in english :$). I was trying before posting, but I can't access to folders in that menu. Any help?

I'm not sure to perfectly understand what you are asking for. Let's suppose first that your “Favorites” folder is in the “Bookmarks” menu. Then the following script should do the job:
tell application "Safari" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
click menu item -1 of menu 1 of menu item "Favorites" of menu 1 of menu bar item "BookMarks" of menu bar 1
end tell
On the other hand, if your “Favorites” folder is in the Bookmarks Bar, then the following script should do the job:

Importing images from all subfolders within a directory and only within that directory

Hi All
I volunteered to oragnise my grandmas photo collection after I started using lightrooom.
My experience of lightroom started off great but has gone down hill since then. This should be very easy to do. Contanstant propblems now being able to read LR4 catalogs and upgrade them to LR5 format
My most recent problem is I have copied the entire contents of my grandmas computer to a portable hard driv
Drive I:\ directory I:\grandma.
I now want to create a new catalog in lightroom so I can import all her photos (scattered all over the computer in various files, she had no structure) into one single folder, so everything is organised.
The problem is (I have tried lightroom 4 and 5 each with a different problem):
In lightroom 5 I open a new catalog, open the import dialog and point it to the directory I:\grandma, then I click the show all subfolders (it only recognises 150 image but there are at least a few thousand) I think it is only recognising the immediate folder even though I have the ALL photos option selected, and the copy all photos and import from subfolders options selected.) At the very least it is not recognising all the subfolders, in some cases there are about seven levels.
What is the maximum number of images you can import in one go? And how many nested subfolders can you have?
In lightroom 4 I open a new catalog and open the import dialog and point it to I:\grandma. However this time the import dialog box returns photos which I know are not in the directory I:\ grandmas. It is displaying a lot of my photos in the import dialog box (even though I have clearly selected the I:\grandma directory. when I use show in explorer I can see it is showing images from my C drive that it wants to import.
Why is it doing this when I have clearly selected I only want to import my grandmas photos into the catalog from the directory I:\grandma?
I have also followed Pete Green's directions here to 1. optimise the catalog ( I did it however not sure of the point when it is a new catalog with no images in it) and 2. remove xmp files of which there are none (see point 1.) http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1231573

UPDATE--> Manually adding folders (drag from explorer and drop on music libray) appears to be functioning as a work around. I have been testing individual folders and so far so good.
While this may be a workaround i have HUNDREDS of folders! =(

Exclude *All* Subfolders From Smart Folder Search

I know how to make a Smart Folder search two different directories and retrieve results from each (e.g. /Applications and /Developer). I've also seen disscusions here on excluding particular subfolders, but to no avail. So here's a simpler request: is it possible to exclude all subfolders from a Smart Folder query? Suppose I have the following directory structure:
Foo/
A.txt
B.txt
Bar/
C.txt
D.txt
Baz/
E.txt
F.txt
G.txt
Given a search for *.txt files, I'd like the following result:
FooSearch.smartSearch
A.txt
B.txt
G.txt
Possible or no?

I have a similar issue, but want to exclude results that are within Mail.

How to get all Universes in a folder?

I am trying to get all Universes (or more specifically the count of all Universes) in a folder. This means it has to count all univeses in that folder + all the universes in the sub folders + sub folders of the sub folders and such.
How can I do this?
I already have the code to get all the universes in the main folder:

You can walk down the Folder hierarchy, looking for objects with SI_PARENTID = <the target folder>.
There's descendants query, by adding the clause SI_ANCESTOR = <parent object ID> but typically should be avoid that since it'll not be as efficient as walking down the folder heirarchy yourself.

thank you.. (I wonder why you can't just do it by getting info on the folder, then saying, unlock all files inside.. (u can do like that in windows) this is always more practical than having to select all files (and accidentally opening them, or something...-) in windows you can select a folder and then say, (un)lock all files and and dirs -- and subdirs and files inside -- inside this folder.. can u do something like this in mac os? if not, that's not very good.. (I guess on the mac would need to find unix commands for doing something like this..)
they really need to consider this for future versions, this is a no-brainer...;-)
