How to open applications with Automator?

How would I got about opening, say, Contacts, Mail, etc using Automator? I then will want to map it onto F13-F19.
I'll also want to open specific Web pages by pressing a Fn key.
FWIW, with the method described in this article I can open Contacts but then it tries to open specific contacts (I think) and results in a dialog I have to dismiss. I just want to open the app.

Hi, I'm new to the Netbeans IDE and I'm wondering how to run applications with options.
Normally I'd enter the following in the command line:

Right-click the project, click properties, clicl run, and add parameters to VM Options.

Open application with administrative privilege

Can anyone point me to resources on how to execute a command in Java to open an application with administrative privileges - similar to the windows runas command - but will accept the login and password in the command?

First figure out how to do it at the command line (it's beyond me). Then use Runtime.exec() to run the command. You'll have to use the Process's output stream to respond to the password prompt, and it's possible that might not work if Windows isn't prompting on stdin.

I think Metalink NOTE:280116.1 covers changing the ias_admin password when it's forgotten.
Basically, you edit $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/j2ee/config/jazn-data.xml and remove the <credentials> property.
Then you can reset the password with: $ORACLE_HOME\bin\emctl set password reset <new password>
Or, sounds like you can put the password into jazn-data.xml (NOTE:280587.1) by editing the <credentials> property:
Replace the existing encrypted password with the new password.
Be sure to prefix the password with an exclamation point (!). For example:
<credentials>!mynewpassword123</credentials>

Well to create a stand alone application all you need is the
executable (FMX) and the runtime - thats it!
As for using Crystal Reports - yes you could use ORA_FFI to
integrate.

On my old Powerbook, I could open documents with a double tap. On my new Macbook Pro, I cannot do this. I have to press Control and then the bar under the trackpad. Is there a better shortcut to opening docs?

How new is that MBPro? It appears that the preferences you have are different from mine and that they support the additional gestures (as on the Mac Book Air). Methinks you should try the box "Tap to Click" under the single finger gestures as the next items Dragging and Drag Lock are what follow the box I suggested earlier on mine.
If it doesn't work, turn it off and try something else.

How do I create an Application with Automator that will open files in Photoshop Elements 11 and run an action?

Here's what I'd really like the Script to do when I select one main folder:
Look through all the subfolders, find all the PNG files and convert them to TIFFs, replacing the original PNG files.
Open the converted TIFF files in PSE 11.
Run an action on them in PSE 11 (which I already created that adds a white fill layer below the TIFF file.)
Save each file in their original location and Close each file.
Import them into LR.
Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?
If that's not possible, I'd love an Automator action that can convert the PNG files to TIFFs that can be viewed in LR 4.4. If I convert them in PSE 11, LR can view them, but if I convert them using Automator, LR cannot.

I'm not sure I understand you problem with the Run button. If you set the execution mode to Run When Opened from VI Properties, it should execute once whenever it's called. I think that when building an executable, it changes the property to this if it's not already set. If the application does not have this set, it will not be running at all. I'm assuming that you are talking about the Run button on the toolbar and not a run Boolean that you've created on the front panel.
Since you have the app builder, your other option is to create a DLL. If you can call a DLL in Matlab, then that would probably be simpler.

what database-user is the user connected with, when executing the forms ? Is it one of the three schemaowners or has each logical user his own database-user?
About your db-objects:
I would create 3 roles, one for each schema, and grant the needed privileges for one schema to the according role
Example:
CREATE ROLE RL_SCHEMA1;
GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE ON SCHEMA1.TABLE RO RL_SCHEMA1;
...Then you can grant the roles to the databaseuser you are connected with at runtime.
If you use named users (each logical user has it's own database-user) then you assign each user only those roles he needs.

How to open Applications using Plugins

How do I select a plugin to open an Application in the Applications options menu? For example I want MPEG movies to open with a plugin such as Quicktime Plugin or Windows Media Plugin or DivX WebPlayer Plugin instead of using an external media player. When I try to do this in the Applications menu the plugins do not show up unless they are already selected by default and when I try to go look for them using "Use Other ..." I cannot select them because they are not considered applications.

Did you check under all other folders other than the 2 you have mentioned ?

How to open files with "return" key and delete files with "delete" key?

Hi friends,
It's been over a week since I got my iMac and I'm loving it. However, while I'm adapting alright to 'mac' key shortcuts (e.g. using the COMMAND-S for save as opposed to CONTROL-S used in PC).
However, there are 2 things that are annoying me greatly right now.
1. I like selecting files with keys as opposed to using the mouse. I make animations and prefer keyboard shortcuts. However, when I hit "return", instead of opening the file it goes into file-renaming mode. How do I change this? Likewise, I would like to delete files by hitting the delete key. This does not work - how do I change this?
2. When I click SHIFT key sometimes, it gets 'stuck' - which is annoying because I start typing CAPITALS when I wasn't aware I've activated the CAP-LOCK key. How do I get rid of this? Like, I don't want to hit SHIFT for instance, and have that up arrow thing 'stuck' there.

I have to say that I can't reproduce your problem, does this happen just in applications or in everything? I don't know if it's to do with this but pressing Shift 5 times turns on Sticky Keys & Option(Alt) 5 times to turn on Mouse Keys (System Preferences>Universal Access>Keyboard).
After typing "Sticky Keys" into Mac Help, I found this:
"Pressing a group of modifier keys as a sequence
To perform many tasks on your computer, you need to press one or more modifier keys (Shift, Command, Option, and Control) at the same time as another key. For example, pressing Shift-Command-Q in the Finder opens the Logout dialog.
If you have difficulty pressing several keys at once, you can make it easier to press a set of keys by turning on Sticky Keys in the Universal Access preferences pane. With Sticky Keys turned on, you can press a set of modifier keys as a sequence. As you press each key, the symbol for the modifier key appears on the screen.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Universal Access. Then click Keyboard.
Select the On button next to Sticky Keys.
To hear a sound whenever the computer registers that you have pressed a modifier key, select "Beep when a modifier key is set."
To see an icon indicating which modifier keys you have pressed, select "Display pressed keys on screen."
You can also use Slow Keys to adjust the amount of time between when you press a key and when it is activated."

I have a question about the Automator software. I'm trying to change the size of the text in either Pages or Open Office. Present the text size is 10,5 and I would like to change this to 22. Whilst in the Preview application, press "Shift - Command - A" (⇧⌘A) simultaneously to show the markup toolbar, or click View, and select "show markup toolbar". There is an icon "A" near the right hand side of the now visible markup toolbar, click this icon to reveal all the font options.
