How to overclock an opensparcT1 core?

Hi all,
I am trying to find the max speed of the opensparcT1 core which is implemented on a Virtex 5. Anyone knows how to do this?
Thanks.
Steve

h,
I would start reading the users guides, and reference manuals.  I would work example through the tools.
An IP block is nothing but a verilog or VHDL block that you decide to use over again.  Once your block is working, the tools (ISE or Vivado) allow you to capture it, and encapsulate it as an IP block that can be re-used later in other projects (it becomes a library function).
So, first get it to work.  Then worry about making it an IP block, and then, only if you need to use it again and again in other projects.  If not, then there is no need to go to the trouble of making it an IP block -- just use the verilog or VHDL whenever you need it.

  • How to use only one core for Macbook Pro?

I know that Macbook Pro is a dual-core CPU Macbook. I know I can do this by using battery only. But are there any ways that I can turn off one core in the system while keep the power adapter plugged in? Thank you!

Navigate to /Library/Application Support/HWPrefs and launch the CPUPalette program.
(If you don’t find it there, insert your Leopard install disc, click on Optional Installs, select Packages, and double-click on CHUD.pkg; that will install CPUPalette.)
It will display two graphs showing how busy your CPU’s cores are, and let you disable one or more of them. Click on the oblong button in the upper right corner to reveal a settings panel where you can adjust transparency, sample interval and history, and chart format.

  • How can i get Intel Core 2 Duo?

I have an iMac Mac OS X Version 10.6.8, how can i get Intel Core 2 Duo?

You are in the Snow Leopard forum. Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor. Maybe you think that's what you need in order to run TM. But you don't, you need Leopard. Snow Leopard will not run on your Mac.
I see you are running Tiger. You need to get the Leopard Install DVD. You can't download Leopard. Post back if you want to know how to get the DVD. It may still be available from Apple.
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867  MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider,  fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.
EDIT: And, you don't have to have Time Machine. You can make a very good backup with Tiger, which will be an exact clone of your internal drive, using several programs, one of which is free. Post back if you want more information.

  • How to generate an IP core from an available Verilog code ?

    Hi everyone,
Currently, I would like to test a Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system on Zedboard. This system consist of a ANC Chip embedded inside FPGA and written by Verilog language and a earphone which includes a microphone and loudspeaker. This means we need to use ADAU1761 Chip for testing on Zedboard. I also have studied and known that in order to use and control this Audio Chip by writing Verilog code is so difficult.I also referred Lab4 on Xilinx website and I understand that my problem can be solved by synthesizing an IP core from Verilog (which I am programming for ANC chip) as FIR filter in Lab4. My biggest problem, I don't know how to generate an IP core from my Verilog code and I also don't know any tools can help me solve this problem.
Please kindly let me know the way to generate an IP core from my Verilog code or  the tools I can use for this problem. Any your suggestions to solve this problem are  significant with me.
    Thanks in advance !

Yes, Prime 95 is a system stress testing utility. Here is the link to a bunch of useful utilities. You will need to screen them for the ones that only apply to your needs & system. Forum 'Sticky' OCUBA - OC Utilities & Benchmarking Apps. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107133.0

by the way, when i let it on stock (3.0GHz), my cpu-z shows my core speed 2400 GHz and only 6.0 for my multiplier, wherelse in the bios stated my core speed is 3.0ghz and multilplier is 9.0..this is acutually the stock one...why is that in the cpu-z is different from the actual...
your 3dmark test for your first rig is 21000... ..how do you make it till 21000..i've just test it on mine and it was only 16000... ...is it only depends on our graphic card..??..i'm using only GECube HD4870 512MB..

try with lesser steps. give CPU vcore only when need. what is your actual memory frequency at latest good OCed settings?

aggressive memory timings option doesn't exist in your BIOS, DOT(Dynamic Overclocking) its Disabled by default, but ensure it.(located in Cell Menu).

  • How do I use 2 Core Audio devices at the same time in Logic w/out switching

Hello, I use the Aardvark Direct Mix usb3 as my audio interface for mic and guitar. I just upgraded to Logic Pro 7 today and was hoping someone could tell me how I could use the Built-in Audio Core Audio driver along with the Direct Mix USB Core Audio Driver at the same time without having to switch Core Audio Driver's and than rebooting Logic. It is very frustrating doing that as well as not being able to hear my Logic audio during playback/record mode when I am trying to record via the USB3. WHat can I do? Thanks! If ther are both core audio, why can I not just use both of them at the same time? Why must a switch back and forth? Thanks!
    [email protected]

THanks everyone! awsome article! Thanks for posting it, nh!
The weird thing is, once I go up to the Menu and select Open Aggregate Device Editor in the AUDIO/MIDI setup utility and try to add a new Aggregate Device setup (step # 6 from the link), the only audio device available is the "Built-in Audio". What's weird is when I have the main Audio MIDI Setup utility open, every single drop-down menu/tab has the "Direct Mix USB 3 1.0.9.1" device right beneath the "Built-in Audio" option. To me that says that the core audio device is indeed recognized by my computer (obviously since I can record with it using Logic). Can anyone help me with this one? Any suggestions?
Not that it should matter but, the hardware audio interface that I am using is made by the no-longer-existant company once known as Aardvark. I actually had to purchase a third party Core Audio driver just to have it recognized by OS X.
This is the website where I purchased my audio driver :
    http://www.usb-audio.com/
A little more on how this device and it's core audio driver function within Logic . . . (Hopefully this might clarify something I may be screwing up) . . .
I launch Logic with its default Built-in Audio which allows playback of audio from the app. I than go up to Audio Hardware and Drivers and than drop the flip down Driver menu down to the second option, "Direct Mix USB 3 1.0.9.1." Logic than prompts me that I should try to (re)launch Logic Pro to load the appropriate CoreAudio.. I do that. Now I am ready to record guitar through the Direct Mix USB3, I just can't hear anything (unless I use head phones as an output from the Direct Mix).
Anyway, you all probably already knew what I meant so explaining that was pointless. But my question is, if the Driver is obviously recognized by my comp in both the Audio MIDI Setup and in Logic, than why won't the Direct Mix device show up as a possibility for setting up an aggregate device? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • How to span vlans across core layer in core/distribution/access campus design?

    Hi,
I studied Cisco Borderless Campus Design Guide 1.0 (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Campus/Borderless_Campus_Network_1-0/Borderless_Campus_1-0_Design_Guide.html) last week because we plan to redesign our campus backbone to a three tier Core/Distribution/Access Design.
Today we use a collapsed backbone where a lot of vlans are spanned across the backbone because they are needed in different buildings.
Could anybody give me a hint how Cisco recommends to deal with that kind of vlans in the multi-tier design?
In my eyes between core and distribution layer there is only routing functionality and no l2 transport of vlans.
So using the same vlan in different buildings seems not to be supported?
    Best Regards,
    Thorsten

    Thorsten
Just to add to Joseph's post.
It is quite common for a vlan to be spanned when it doesn't actually need to be ie. the network has evolved that way.
Most things do not need L2 adjacency, they can happily use L3. Servers sometimes do but in the campus design your servers are usually located in one site so you don't need to extend vlans to other sites in your campus.
Not suggesting this is the case for you but it may be worth checking whether you really do. (apologies if you already have)
As Joseph mentioned you really want to avoid it if at all possible ie. ideally all connections to the core switches are L3 ie. no need for vlans at all in the core.
If you need to extend a few vlans then you can do this but still route for all other vlans ie. you would configure your distribution to core connections as trunks and then allow the vlans you need to extend plus one other vlan, unique per distribution pair, to route all other vlans. So per site your distribution switches route all vlans except the extended vlans and of they need to route to a vlan in another site they use that unique vlan.
But this is not ideal because you then need to extend certain vlans across the core and because you are using L2 connections STP could come into it although that does depend on your core switch selection eg. 4500/6500 VSS etc. would alleviate this.
There are ways to extend vlans across a L3 network but the solutions available are very much dependant on the kit you use and their capabilities so if you do need multiple vlans in multiple sites but still want to keep a L3 core you may want to investigate some of those before purchasing kit (unless of course you have already purchased it).
What you do really depends on just how many vlans you actually need to extend between sites.

  • How do I disable a core on a CoreDuo system

    Hi:
On tiger there was an option under the System Preferences section that allowed a user to disable one of the cores on a dual core system thus making it act like a single core machine. I'm running into some type of strange deadlock with a Java program, and it appears to be limited to Java 1.5 on Leopard (works fine with Tiger in both 1.4 and 1.5, as well as virtually every other OS we've tested it on). To be honest, I'm not sure if it's a Java bug with this version/OS combination, or it's our code (possibly Leopard is able to create that one oddity that makes a bug in our code stand out).
What I want to do is be able to disable one of the two cores available on the system. I suspect this was eliminated from the System Preferences menu because people that didn't really know what it really did might mistakenly disable it, but I also have to suspect the option is there, somewhere. The question is, where?
I've done web searches and can't get any reliable details. If anyone knows, please let me know how it's done.
    Thanks

As the other post says this is part of the developer tools. If you don't load the tools you don't see it in either Tiger or Leopard. Most people aren't even aware that this option exists. It is added the same way for Leopard install the developer tools that are on the Leopard disk and you will be good to go.

  • How to move further from Core JAVA.

    Hi,
I have studied Core JAVA upto multithreading.
And currently as S/w Quality Engineer, I am working on JUnit Tests in Spring Framework from last 2 months.
Now, I want to switch into development, and for the same I want to learn more in JAVA.
Please advice what more I need to learn to make myself proficient in JAVA so as that I can switch to development.
    Thanks !

I'm surprised by statement in the OP:
as S/w Quality Engineer, I am working on JUnit Tests in Spring FrameworkBut even more by this answer:
if you can push yourself to a professional level in the department of testing (creating and executing test plans, writing proper unit tests, doing test driven development, ...).I'm not disagreeing, just wondering: I have never met a professional "tester" that used jUnit. The testers I've met in organizations, even when they were were technical (usually graduated from programming to testing), had a mostly functional concern: check that a functionality works as expected. Creating and executing test plans, while an invaluable skill, is rarely matching the same job description as "writing unit tests".
Even integration testing, which requires development for injectors, simulators, etc... is not always (and I would say, rarely) amenable to using jUnit.
I seem to understand the OP means in-container automated tests. I understand how they can be referred to as integration tests (*not* unit-tests).
I have met (and been) developers who test their software, including at an integration or functional level, using jUnit or not, but they were "developers" who had acknowledged the importance of testing (conscientious developers, that is), not "testers" using jUnit as one of their tools.
One thing I can understand to justify a specific team writing in-container testing as those described, is an integration team integrating modules developed by several teams. Even then, I would call people in such a team developers, not testers.
Again I'm not disagreeing, just surprised: could you both comment on your experience as to how unit-testing can be a tester's concern as opposed to a developer's concern?
Are you working in organizations where full-time people in a QA team are devoted to write unit-tests or jUnit tests over code produced by other full-time people?
    J.

For my Z77A-GD65 system build.  Using HWMonitor to observe temps across each core an on the package.
At what point is "hot", "too hot".
With no overclocking, with my stock intel fan, I'm at 40C at idle.  When Prime95 or any stress app is run, it gets into the 75-80C range.  When does it get to be "too hot" where I should consider better cooling and heatsink solutions?

    Quote
When does it get to be "too hot" where I should consider better cooling and heatsink solutions?
By current Intel documentation calculations, it is 89C for a 3rd gen 77W CPU. Normally, I don't give answers that can be found by doing some self research, but currently as listed, TjMax is 105C. For years, heat has been an enemy to pc components, but in all fairness, the production quality and temperature tolerance has greatly improved beginning with 5 series chipsets, recent memory chips, and VGA's. Along with heat, voltages applied can also have a dramatic impact on longevity. That is why it is important to 'know the limits'! Components are built with limits by the manufacturer, unless proven otherwise and documented, a CPU at 70C will not suffer degradation any less than a CPU running at 88C (3rd Gen CPU). If the temperatures and voltages are within the manufacturers specifications, there is no need to fret about them.
Getting rid of that factory TIM on that stock CPU cooler and using a proper amount of AS5 or MX-2 might reduce that temperature by up to 10C.

  • K7N2-L Overclocking 1700+ B Core Help

    Hello all,
    I've got a K7N2-L and a 1700+ B core (1.6v), I've managed to overclock it to 12.5*166 with the bios set at 1.625v(bios reports 1.67v).
But I can't seem to break the 166fsb barrier, I've got two (dimm 1+3) pc2700 generic cl2.5 ram modules in running at 2.7v (2 2 2 3). Everything runs totally stable at 166 but at 168 or 170 I get an unstable system. I reduced the memory timing very low settings when testing just incase that was a factor.
I've tried reducing the multiplier to 11.5 and increasing the fsb but no luck, increasing the cpu core voltage to 1.8v and 12.5x180 to jump right over the 170 fsb range but a failure again. The failures are 3d mark 2001 failing and going back to the desk top. But with 180fsb I couldn't get it to boot fully into windows.
With 166 fsb I just use the stock cooler and it's stable, with all the other tests I use a big desk fan pointing in the open case as well and the cpu temp stay under 40 degress.
I can't help thinking that if I can get 166 at 1.67 volts stable the cpu has a lot more in it and something else is limiting the fsb (esp as I can't get over 166 with lower multipliers). Are they any bois/cpu hacks that allow me to access the higher multipliers so I can at least try and get my cpu MHz up?
    My system specs are:
    K7N2-L with 1700+
    Coolermaster 3000+ amd approved
PCI raid card running 2x80G stripped disks
MX440 (not over clocked) soon to be a 9800 pro when it arrives
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks!!!

    Hi wonkanoby,
Yep I've upped the voltage by 0.025 as well, it is showing at 1.66-1.67 too, that seemed to do the trick to get 166*12.5.
I've found someone else who has the same ram and can't get it above 166, so it looks like the ram is the problem. If the ram is the problem do you think.
    166 memory, 200 fsb and multiplier 10.5 (2100MHz)
    overall would be slower than
    166 memory, 166 fsb and multiplier 12.5 (2075MHz)
I've read that having the front side bus and ram frequencies synchronised makes a big difference so it could well be the case that 166Mhz for fsb and ram is the better option.
If this is the case does anyone know anyway to access the higher than 12.5 multipliers? I'd like to try 13 or 13.5 multipliers. I've had a good look around the internet and other forums but I can't find any clear information on whatI need to do to get the higher multiplier ranges.
    Thanks.
