How to post question in a discussion category

I need to post a question about my iPod and can't find out how to post the question in the correct category. Am I missing something? I have been all over the site and can't find the link to post my question in the appropriate category. Thanks,

  • Kad: What is a forum, board, and category and how to post a new topic?

In the Discussions Feedback board you'll see this quote:
If your question concerns a hardware or software technical issue, please do not post in this forum — instead, go to the Apple Discussions Homepage, select an appropriate product category and follow the links until you reach the correct forum for your post, then click the Post New Topic link.
It appears that many still miss this advice as they go ahead and ask in the Discussions feedback page how to post a new topic. This advice is as clear as can be, though some may not understand what the terms are in this quote. To clarify Apple Discussions is organized into the following elements:
    Apple Discussions Homepage
    - Categories of Topics
    - - Individual _Topic Forums_
    - - - Individual _Topic Threads_
When you enter a Category you will see _Topic Threads_ but no Post New Topic link. The reason for this is that all the threads in each forum are combined beneath the individual Forum links. If you wish to post a new topic in any specific Forum, you have to navigate to the Forum first to post a new topic in that Forum. Don't let the preponderance of views or responders make you think you need to post a "me too". In fact this makes it harder on the original poster to determine what is the cause of their problem. It is better to post your own topic, so you can get more focussed attention, and a wider audience who can help you. If you have a reply that might lead to a solution for the original poster, by all means reply. Otherwise you just contribute to the length of the thread, and don't really help in finding a solution.
An example of a Category: iMac
An example of a Forum: Using your iMac G5
Note also the header of the board says: "Category" or "Forum" to help guide you.
Be sure also to identify your Mac or operating system before posting in specific forums, as some Macs may look similar. If you need help, ask first.

I want to delete all past posts/questions & my username / account. How do I do that? I will make a new account with my new email and name but I want all of these posts and username deleted. please advise. thank you.

Whether or not the hosts do delete your posts, do not make the mistake of believing that deleting something from the internet is so easy.  Once those posts have been archived by other sites that monitor this one, they remain archived.  People may still be able to find your cached posts on Google, for example.  In the future, you should not post anything anywhere online if you are not willing for the world to see it.

  • How to post the question in asktom

    Hi,
Could you please some give isteps to posting questions for ask.tom .I tried in his site ,but i didn't find the post thread/question kind of options.

And besides waiting in vain for days, staring at the "Sorry I have a large backlog right now, please ask a question later"-message and getting more and more depressed (just kidding ;) ), you could always ask your question here on this forum.
    If you do that:
Provide details about DB-version, make a small but representative example, use the tags.
(that way you have practised on how to ask questions to Tom when you get your chance ;))
And usually by doing some searches on here and AskTom there's great chance you'll find your answer(s) without having to ask anyone.

How do I prevent every apple discussion post to go to my email box?  I have changed the preferences, but they are still filling up my email box?

The preferences control future subscriptions.  Click the email and follow back to the discussion and then click "stop email notifications" under Actions on the top right of this page.  You'll need to do that for each discussion you're subscribed to.

  • How do you post photos in a discussion?

Any idea on how to post photos on this forum. Tried copy and paste with no luck.

As Kappy says, click the Camera icon
then select the file you want to show, either one you have on your computer or one you have uploaded previously to Apple Support Communities.
Note that methods that used to work, such as referencing 3rd photo sites such as flickr or photobucket, no longer work here. Also note that there are image and file size limits
    Best of luck.

    Hello
    1. At the top of this page  click on Rates and subscriptions and then               New topic [left hand side].
    2. With Skype [or any VoIP call provider] the originating location of a call is irrelevant. The sole criterion is the country to which or within which you are calling. e.g. a call to the USA from any country worldwide [including from within the USA] costs 2.3 cents per minute or part thereof.
Rates for both Subscription and PAYG calls can be seen here: Skype subscription
     I hope this is helpful.

I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

  • Re: how to post a new question?

Apologies. After a half hour of being logged in to this confusing support forum and searching, I cannot see how to post a new query. Therefore I'm replying to an existing query.
I need to understand the scope of my Skype pay-as-you-go account. I have only ever used it to call form Canada to a UK landline, except one time from Croatia to USA, which DID NOT appear to have been charged at the same inexpensive rate.
Where do I find this information? Thanks.

  • Posting questions

I spent hours trying to get here! I read an archived question/reply related to how to post a question and also read the "Help & Terms of Use" page, but couldn't find what I was supposed to see. I finally got where I needed to be, but don't know how I did it! Can someone explain the exact procedure for going from the category list that appears when you cllick on "Discussions" to the "Post Message: New Thread" page? Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
For starting a new thread, the correct term is
"post new topic". It is found in the upper
left of each Forum (other than the Forum pages
    summarizing several sub-Forums).
    In
    it looks
    like this:
Simply click on it and you'll be taken to a page
where you can post a question.
I can't find anything that says "post a message" either. I need help with my mail. Something happened when I was in my mail earlier and suddenly I got a message asking me to create a new mail account. I couldn't get back to my mailbox that I was in earlier either. So I went ahead and created the new account, although all the information was the same. Username, password, etc. Once I did that and opened mail, there is nothing in my mailbox. I found all the messages I had in my previous mailbox under my name Carolann. But when I try to open any of them, it says "The message from "Smith, Carolann B concerning "..." has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account onine in order to download it." I don't know how to do that, can anyone help so I can see my messages.
    Thanks,
    Carolann

  • Newbie can't figure out how to post

I have been trying to figure out how to post a question for an hour. THere IS no button to click that says POST MESSAGE when I pull up the IPHOTO topic. Where could it be?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You've posted two questions successfully in this forum, and the forums are formatted exactly the same way throughout the site.
When you say, "pull up the iPhoto topic," do you mean that you have chosen a topic to read to which you would also like to reply?
Can you be a little more specific as to where you are looking for a Post Message button? Is it possible the topic you were looking at is either locked or archived (there would be a note indicating either possibility at the top of the topic's text), in which case there is no Post Reply button available...?
Is it possible that you were looking at the iPhoto Category page (here) which contains a list of forums (though it does resemble a list of topics), rather than a particular iPhoto forum? If yes, then you will have to choose a forum from the list in order to post a message.

  • How can a question marked as "solved" be restored to unsolved status?

How do you remove the “This solved my question” status icon if the answer turns out to be wrong?
Variations of this question can be found in a few discussion threads in the Apple Support Community. I found one very similar question marked as “This solved my question.” Unfortunately the answer was, “It can't be changed.” I have reasons for trying to, at least, get a more definitive answer.
A primary purpose of these discussions is to resolve issues. It is very frustrating to read through long threads that claim to have an answer, only to find that the question was mistakenly marked “solved.” I spent over an hour on a thread that was marked as resolved. The member that made the mistake wanted to remove the “solved” status--even asked for help several times. I finished the thread just in case either issue was resolved. No, neither issue was resolved.
May someone, Apple if necessary, explain how to revert the “solved” status or help fix the problem? If it is a known issue with no workaround, it would be very helpful to have an explanation. Accordingly, are there plans to fix this problem, and a rough idea when? This could be a “This solved my question” hallmark worth celebrating!
Caution: This discussion or parts of it may be revised or deleted while I attempt to find a solution or workaround. Once I've given up or the issue is resolved, I will indicate so, even if it requires a repost. Relevant contributions will be indicated either way.

leonieDF and  seventy one pointed out, (paraphrasing) all posts can be helpful in some way, even if the original owner of the discussion didn't get their question resolved.
Maybe if I keep using this tool I'll change my mind, but most of the time I'd rather save time getting something solved than not.
If anyone believes there are legitimate reasons owners and participants of a discussion would benefit from the ability of the owner to reset the solved status, you're welcome to chime in.
These excerpts from my original post express why I think a change is needed:
Stiltskin!: “The member that made the mistake wanted to remove the “solved” status--even asked for help several times. I finished the thread just in case either issue was resolved. No, neither issue was resolved.”
Stiltskin!: “I didn't find any entry in that thread with an answer to revert the icon. So I got the idea it wasn't common knowledge because so many posters asked the owner to fix it even though the owner kept asking how to do it.”
A big part of why I started this discussion is because I noticed others (and myself) expressed interest in this feature (owner ability to reset a discussion's solved status). If anyone want's to respond to that, please do.
Nobody's brought it up but my discussion's header question doesn't express what I'm talking about now. I would change it if I could. I'd encourage future contributors (if any) to read through the explanation of my question in the first post to understand my perspective beyond "How can a question marked as 'solved' be restored to unsolved status?"
Thank you all for your input!
