How to preload my database into memory?

1 In Java Edition, There's a method called "Database.Preload()" to do this.
But in BDB C version ,is there an equivalent one?
if not, How can I do the same thing (with java API)?
2 How to count the records in a database?

if not, How can I do the same thing (with java API)?There's really not a huge advantage to preloading the database, in my opinion, but
if you wanted to, you could just use a cursor to traverse all entries.
