How to prevent from inserting two similar values into DB?

Hi,
I wanted to know how we can prevent from inseting two similar values into the database, e.g the user id which should be unique. Here is some sample code, Please help me.
String s10 = req.getParameter("T10");
String s11 = req.getParameter("T11");
rs = st.executeQuery("select * from Register where userid='"+s10+"' ");
if(rs.next())
     sos.println("Sorry the user already exists");
else
int x = st.executeUpdate("insert into Register values('"+s1+"','"+s2+"','"+s3+"','"+s4+"','"+s5+"',"+s6+","+s7+",'"+s8+"','"+s9+"','"+s10+"','"+s11+"')");
Thaks in advance
Uma

Hi reddy
Your code works will be perfect with slight changes whucah are as below:
String s10 = req.getParameter("T10");
String s11 = req.getParameter("T11");
rs = st.executeQuery("select * from Register where upper(userid)='"+s10.toUpperCase()+"' ");
if(rs.next())
sos.println("Sorry the user already exists");
else
int x = st.executeUpdate("insert into Register values('"+s1+"','"+s2+"','"+s3+"','"+s4+"','"+s5+"',"+s6+","+s7+",'"+s8+"','"+s9+"','"+s10+"','"+s11+"')");
In the above Query we will get a unique userids it may be smallcase or Uppercase
This will help u
Cheers

  • How to Insert check box value into database column

    Hi All,
    I had checkbox group in a region which is using an LOV......and having 18 items in that lov.
    i.e. Total 18 checkboxes in Total. User has to select only 2 checkboxes from that 18.
    I created two columns for storing two values of checkboxes. How to insert two selectives in two columns.........Moreover, How to give the query i.e. how to know which values are selected.
    Please Help me in achieving this. apart from the two columns (Focus1,Focus2) .......One more column(l_spo_val) is there which is a foreign key.
    My Insert Statement is like this:
    INSERT INTO SPO_RESEARCH_FOCUS VALUES(l_spo_val
    ,:P4_RESEARCH_LIST_1
                        ,:P4_RESEARCH_LIST_2);
    Please narrate the code if possible.
    Thanks,
    Sekhar.

    Hi Denes,
    I saw the example in your workspace and it is the same what exactly i want and instead of storing in one column i want to store the two selected values into two different columns. Also i need to restrict the selection of checkboxes upto 2 only. So If the user tries to select the third check box it doesnt have to accept.
    Even I am ready to change my table as according to your example i.e. creating only one column. Store the values of selection into that column.
    I was unable to see how u wrote the logic (Code) for your example in your workspace. It helps alot if you provide me the code for that example(Multi Checkbox One Column).
    I was facinated after watching your examples in your workspace and am very much interested to know more about Apex.
    Please help me insolving this as it is long pending issue for my requirement.
    Thanks a lot again,
    Sekhar.

  • How to insert an upper value into a column?

    Hi!,
    I need to insert an upper value into a column.
    The data is on a flat file and it could be lowercase or uppercase?
    Do I have to create a trigger to solve this problem?
    How could the trigger be?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    If you are using SQL*Loader to load the data from flat file into the db table, then you can achieve inserting the UPPER Case of column value in your sqlloader ctl file itself as in below example
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    APPEND INTO TABLE XXX
    ( field1 position(1:7) char "UPPER(:field1)",
    field2 position(8:15) char "UPPER(:field2)"
    BEGINDATA
    Phil Locke
    Jason Durbin
    So in this case the Names Phil Locke and Jason Durbin will be inserted as PHIL LOCKE and JASON DURBIN into the target table.

  • How to insert a default value into MS server in java - help please

    hi
    suppose if i have a table and one of the column has a default value when the table was created. how can i insert the default value into this column? assuming that the column is the second column and i can't specify the column name when inserting. thanks.

    thanks for ur response, so if i have insert statement as follow
    insert into someTable values (1,'val1', 'val2', 'val3', 'val4')
    and column 3 has default value = DEFAULT
    then, to insert default value, my insert statement will look like this
    insert into someTable values (1,'val1', 'val3', 'val4')
    but the number of values will not match the number of columns.

    How stop PS6 from removing the DPI-value from an image when using "save for the web"?
    Example:
    - Open a tif image, that contains a dpi value (resolution).
    - Use the splice tool in PS6.
    - Export the slices with "Save for web", as gif-files.
    Then the dpi value is removed, the gif files has no dpi value (it's empty).
    How can we stop PS6 from removing the dpi value when using "save for web"?
    OR:
    When using the slice tool, how can we save the sliced pieces without PS removing the dpi value?

    you can make your art go a little bit over the bounds. or you can make sure your artboart and art edges align to pixels

  • How CallableStatement in JSP use setDate() method to insert the date value into DB?

    Dear all,
    I met a strange error message when i insert a date value into DB via JSP call PL/SQL procedures.
    The error seems caused by the setDate(index, date) method with CallableStatement.
    The message is: Can not find the setDate(int, java.util.Date) method in the CallableStatement interfaces.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks advanced.

    Thank you!:)
    I solved it using this:
    String name="david";
                stmt = con1.createStatement();
                String prikaz1 = "INSERT INTO table (id,age,surname,name) IN 'C:\\Users\\David\\Desktop\\db.mdb' SELECT id,age,surname,' " + name + " ' FROM table2";
                stmt.executeUpdate(prikaz1);

  • How to prevent from starting oracle server every time i start windows?

    I have winXP professinonal, and i would like to know how to prevent from starting oracle server every time i start windows. Because it really slows starting the windows. Thanks

    The scripts above seems to work as intended with no errors and do indeed stop my five XE services. I created the second script to start them and they do indeed start and are listed as "Started" in the Services panel aferwards.
    My XE installation has the 5 services set up to start automatically.
    I was happy to find the script above because I did not know the starting order and using the XE shortcuts for "Stop Database" and "Start Database" just seemed to cause sqlplus to receive ORA-12514 "listener does not currently know of service..." after trying to use them to restart the database. Using the scripts above seems to leave me with a different error.
    I am pretty sure I eliminated my 9i listener and it is no longer listed in my Services panel or the registry.
    Restarting the laptop does start the services correctly, and now I am on to a more pressing JDBC error, so if I get a chance to use the script again, I will post my results. Thanks.

  • Inserting the column values into table from view through procedure!!!

    below is my example code
    Create or replace procedure test_proc
    is
    cursor test_cur is
    select a.col1 , b.col2, c.col3, d.col4, e.col5
    from tableA a, tableB b, tableC c, tableD d, tableE e;
    test_cur_rec test_cur%rowtype;
    Begin
    insert into test_stg ( col1, col2, col3, col4, col5, col6, col7)
    Values ( test_cur_rec. col1,
    test_cur_rec .col2,
    test_cur_rec .col3,
    test_cur_rec .col4,
    test_cur_rec .col5
    -- col6, col7 );
    create view test2 (
    select f.col6, g.col7 from tableF f,tableG g);
    I m trying to insert values into the table test_stg but for col6 and col7 i need to get the data from the view test2.
    In simple word, all i need to do is get the 2 columns data from view and insert into a table through procedure. The above code is the example which looks very much like my actual code.
    How do i accomplish this task ??

    well there is joining condition for a, b,c ,d, e tables, i have not mentioned here. The where condition has nothing to do with the other two columns of the view.
    There is no relation ship between the these tables the view. The col 6 and 7 i m inserting from view is sysdate timestamp and the job_id number.
    so its pretty straight forward insertion into the table from view columns. These two columns has just one row with id number and timestamp. so i need to insert these data into the the table when i run a procedure.
    Thank you so much!!!

  • How to calculate variance between two dimension values

    Hello:
    I have built a cube in Analytical workspace (9.2.0.5) with 3 dimensions. Time, Product & Scenario. I am using BI Beans (thick client) for the presentation layer. What I need is the ability to calculate the variance between two dimension values of same measure. For example, if My scenarios are 'Actual' and 'Budget', when I present the results on the screen for any measure (e.g Total Sales), I should be able to calculate & display the difference between 'Actual' & 'Budget' values of that measure.
    I have more than 7 scenarios and more than 40 measures. It could even be the difference between two product categories. How do I do it either in AW or at BI Beans Level?
    Thank you very much for your help.
    regards
    Suresh

    You want to look at qualified data references in the OLAP DML references. Basically, any data reference may be qualified by specifying a dimension name and value:
    sales(time 'jan92')
    forces the dimension TIME to the member 'jan92', no matter whether 'jan92' is in status or not. The resulting expression is essentially no longer dimensioned by the dimension TIME.

  • How to prevent the insertion of rollover code when using a template

    Hi there
    I am designing a site in Dreamweaver using templates. These templates use rollover images. The code that DW uses for the rollover I have abstracted out into a separate javascript file, which is linked to in the header. Further, I am using window.onload() to call the preloader instead of the <body> onload event. All this works fine.
    The problem is that every time I make a change to the template, DW re-inserts the rollover code into the head of the HTML file, and reinserts the preloader code into the <body> tag.
    Now, I have found a solution to the <body> tag problem by changing the preload flag from 1 to 0 in the link created; it seems that DW uses this flag as in indication of whether to insert the onload code into the boday tag.  So that part is fixed.
    But I can't find any way to keep DW from inserting the unecessary and redundant rollover code into the head of the generated HTML files.  Is there a way I can prevent this from happening?

    Just don't externalize your js until the very last step before publishing.

    I have a Students Table with Student_id and Student_Subject_list columns as below.
    create table Students( Student_id number,
    Student_Subject_list varchar2(2000)

  • Ideas on how to export from Oracle (11g) for import into a MSSQL server?

    Hi folks,
    Crazy question yes...but I have some devs that are needing to export some schemas/tables from Oracle to somehow import into MSSQL.
    Are there any utilities our there, hopefully from Oracle that would allow for this? So far, all I can think of are to generate the DDL from the Oracle instance, and then do some scripts to output the data in a cvs type format....
    Anything better than this?
    Any links or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

    Senior Oracle DBAThank you for the prompt reply. I'm looking into this and am finding some Oracle documentation, but just off the top of my head, this approach seems to assume the 2 database servers can see or talk to each other.
    What if the oracle box is on one network...that cannot connect to the network that the MSSQL box is on. For example..running off some test data from one company to another company with networks that do not cross?Assuming some acceptable export/import utility, how do you plan on getting the file from the source to the target if the two servers are on networks that cannot talk to each other?Well, I'm still trying to gather facts, this is just a question coming in from some developers.
    From what it may be, is that the can scp from site to site, but no direct connectivity between the database servers on the sites...isolated, maybe a DMZ...I dunno everything yet.Well, you either have connectivity between the two machines or you don't. Binary decision tree.
    IF  net_connectivity_exists
         you can use oracle sqlnet enabled capabilities
         OR
         you can transfer an export file via ftp, sftp, scp, etc.
    ELSE
         you have to transfer an export file via sneakernet
    END-IF
