How to read Filter selection variable values into ABAP code

HI IP Gurus,
Requierement: In my filter characterstics, i have assigned variables, which use will enter when running th e planning sequence.
so variable values entered by user , i would like to get those values into ABAP code and pass them to some function module.
SO please give me step by step detail how to achive this.
MY understanding use the below method . but not sure how to proceed.Please let me know abap code to get values.
GET_TAB_PARAM_DATA_SEL and GET_PARAM_DATA_SEL.

So In RSPLF1 , in paramters tab, Do i have create structure(str1) and then create component Data selection (Dtsel1) under str1(what setting i have to do here, where should i enter variable value and do i need to give info object name and how do it in code.i tried to following example, not able to get any values in tab_sel .
It will be great, if you could explain in detail.
other thing i found out is in Initialization method i can read i_t_data_charsel table values , where it contains filter slected values.but could not pass these values to execute method

If i understand your requirments correctly ,you need to read the value of the Variable and Put it on the layout. Here is how i would solve this,
Read the value of the variable using an ABAP program.The logic for this would be to read the variable value and post it on the layout on a cell.You can do this by calling the ABAP program on opening the layout.this can be done using LB_EXIT_FM T-code. Now using the SAP delivered SAPAfterDataPut macro, read the cell in which you have placed the variable values and assign it to the necessary values you want to on the layout.All this will be done before the layout opens.

Hi,
you can define variable (page attribiue) on the second page with the same name. You can realise the Navigation with Button ther started onInputProcesing routine. In onInputProcesing you have to call navigation->set_parameter with attribut name as parameter and then starting the navigation. If you have checked the auto property on the variable on second page and varable have same name, the value of variable should be transported.

Hi Sutrtha,
Yeah I got the pop up asking to select the variables used, I have selected ENTITY_ID that was used by the interfaces, but on execution of the package the Scenario did not work as the passeed variable #ENTITY_ID is set to 0 instead of the value I am passing.
Am I missing something?

I want to read the whole text file in one shot, not just one line at a time. Shoud I use Utl_File.Get_Raw or is there another more appropriate way to do this?

Hi Mithlesh,
javascript runs on client side and you cannot assign the value to a Page attribute directly.
As a workaround,you can use an Inputfield,hidden if required,and set the value using javascript.Then the form will have to be submit to be able to read the value in onInputProcessing and then can be assigned to any variable.
In Layout

@Max : The above hack seem to work fine unless you assign a 'DEFAULT' value to the selection fields.
@OP   : Here is an other work around, however, this approach needs an additional effort to create
    new PF-STATUS('MYLIST') and assign a function code of your choice to the function keys in the standard toolbar and handle them in the 'AT USER-COMMAND'   event as shown below. Let us know if you have/find any issues with this.

How to fulfill the virtual characteristic value into report

      I am working on one reporting requirement that needs to add reference date (virtual characteristic) field to report.
      I have added reference date field to query and able to display the field in report.But I am not able to display reference date field runtime data in to report output.
    Could someone please help me on this how to display this virtual characteristic values into report.where the runtime variable values are stored.How to fill the data etc.

You can achieve this using Customer Exit or BADI. Check the folllowing link.

If you are using BADI
You can create Virtual CHAR in BADI using transaction SE19
In this transaction you can create a new or display the existing BADI.
There you can see two tabs
The Attribute Tab we need to give the name of the Multiprovider on which the query with the virtual char is getting executed.
The Inerface Tab has three following sections. Need to write the ABAP code for all the three.
Define : Defind all the characteristics and virtual char that will be used for populating virtual char
Initialize : Initialize them
Compute : Here you will have to write the logic for populating the virtual char.
Once the logic is written then you can use this char in your query .

I want to implement a simple top-down distribution to distribute values from a yearly budget (Y20xx.TOTAL) to a quarter budget (Q20xx.Q1, ... Q20xx.Q4) using the actuals of the previous year as reference.
If we hard code the members it works fine:

Of course, we want to make this dynamic, using the values inputted in the selection screen of the package: time, entity and category.
So if we start with write the following logic, it does not work anymore:

Looks like you solved this, but if I can just add a small point -- when you use syntax like this:
*DIM ACCOUNT WHAT=ACC_NOT_ASSIGNED; WHERE=BAS(FIN);
*DIM TIME WHAT=Y2009.TOTAL; WHERE=BAS(Q2009.TOTAL);
each time the logic runs, it will scan through the dimension from the FIN and Q2009.TOTAL members, one level at a time, until it reaches the base members (where calc = 'n'). This may happen very quickly, if the dimension has very few levels, but could take a bit of extra time if it's a particularly deep dimension. (By which I mean many levels of hierarchy -- not some 1970's Pink Floyd musical reference.)
You may speed things up by using a member property instead of the BAS(xyz). Flag all the base members using a specific property value, and that way the logic engine can pick up the complete list of members in the WHERE clause, in a single query.
*DIM Account What=ACC_NOT_ASSIGNED; Where=[FloydProperty]="DarkSideOfTheMoon"; ...
This adds some maitenance work in the dimension, which may be problematic if your admins are changing it regularly (and will cause problems if they forget to update this particular property).
I can't predict how much time this will save you (maybe not much at all), but anyway I figure you'd want to know exactly what work you're asking the system to perform.

How to Create a selection variable for Fiscal period/year range. The idea is to filter the query results using a fiscal period/year range user input rather than a full fiscal year input.

Open the query in a query designer -> in the left hand side you would find the fiscal year period under the time dimension -> right click -> create variable -> create the variable.
The better option would be use any of the SAP provided variable. You would find them under the Fiscal year period in the left hand side in the query designer.
