How to require certain files

Hello,
I am creating an Cocoa-AppleScript app in Xcode an am wondering how to have my app require certain files inside, such as a Credits file. I have seen other applications require files. How can I do this for my apps??
Thanks

Usually missing files will keep the application from running - what exactly are you trying to do?
You can self-sign an application if all you are looking at is trying to make sure it hasn't been modified - from the guide linked to earlier:
"A self-signed certificate created with the Certificate Assistant is not recognized by users’ operating systems as a valid certificate for any purpose other than validating the designated requirement of your signed code. Because a self-signed certificate has not been signed by a recognized root certificate authority, the user can only verify that two versions of your application came from the same source; they cannot verify that your company is the true source of the code."

  • How to move certain files to certain folders?

I am trying to speed up Re-Labeling all my metadata for every song in my library. Basically I need to create a workflow first, but I am having some troubles on how I should be doing it in Automater. I will explain what I need and hopefully someone could help me create a workflow to make it happen.
    =============
    Example filename: "forrestaveryderty_driftinonby_flapjack.m4a"
find all filenames that start with the same word before the First underscore (_)
create a folder with that same word
copy files with the same word (BEFORE THE FIRST UNDERSCORE) to their corresponding folder name
I then can use Media Rage to select the certain folder and and change the artist name all at once.
and I would like it to do that with every file at one time.
    again...
1: Find files with the same name before the first "underscore"
2: Create a a folder for every different name found (before the first underscore)
3: Copy found files (with same name before the first underscore) to the folder with the same name

This would be easy to do in iTunes. Find all the songs you want to change using search or smart albums or the browser. Select them all. Get Info (Command-I). Enter the new metadata. All the selected songs will be changed at once.
There are also a number of Applescripts available to facilitate metadata editing. See, for example, Doug's Applescripts.

  • Advice on how to transfer certain files/documents to new macbook

I have backed up all my files on my old macbook through time machine with an external hard drive. I want to transfer my music but not my photos to my new macbook. Am I able to do this (and how)? Step by step please. Also, will my photos be permanently saved on my external hard drive, even though I will be using time machine with the external hard drive to back up with my new macbook, and the photos will not be on my new macbook?

You can use the Migration Assistant to bring files from your Time Machine backup to the new MacBook. You can choose to do everything or only certain items. See the article for how.
The photos are not permanently saved on the external hard drive. Leaving aside the fact that hard drives are mechanical devices that will eventually fail at some point, there is also the point that if the new MacBook is using that hard drive as a target  for Time Machine, eventually it will need to use the space on it  for current backups of the items on the MacBook, and thus will overwrite your photos. It would be good to have a separate backup of that data, either on a different hard drive or burned to DVDs.
Pondini, one of the high level users of these forums, has written a great page about the use of Time Machine. You might want to take a look at it.
    Best of luck.

  • How to restore certain files on an iPad?

I wish to restore, on my iPad, some Tunein files from a iTunes backup, that got lost because of a failed "upgrade" for Tunein (recordings). Is this possible, & if so, could someone please direct me to information as to how?
    Thanks.

You can't selectively restore files from a backup. The backup file can only be used to restore the iPad.

  • How to transfer certain files b/t 2 macs

I would appreciate assistance w/the following: I have a g4 pro w/SOME files I'd like to transfer (namely photos and a couple documents) to my MacBook. Both running OS X.
I do have firewire if need be.
I DO NOT wish to transfer all.
Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to transfer a sizeable amount of photos b/t my two macs.
I'm not exactly computer savvy, so any and all info is helpful. Thank you in advance.

Connect the G4 with a FireWire cable to the MacBook and start the G4 in target disk mode (hold down the T key while it's starting up). You'll see a big floating FireWire logo on the screen, at which point you can access the contents of the hard drive of the G4 in the Finder on the MacBook, and copy over what you want. See this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
    Hope this helps

  • I need to do a clean install of maverick on my 2010 mbp what disk do i use and how do i move certain files from an external hard drive

I want to do a clean install of maverick on my 2010 mbp.  I need to know what disk to use and also how i take certain files off my external hard drive and put on my computer.  When I was having problems with my airport they did a clean install and they pulled files of my time machine.   however they forgot to put the partition back in for a windows side.  Originally I had Parellels on my computer.  After my external hard drive got corrupted i called apple and they fixed the problem but didn't have me set up the time machine except for the external hard drive.  Now my only back up is from the external not from the laptop.    I am not sure how to do any of this.  I am not computer savvy...PLEASE I NEED  HELP>

First, you need to make a backup of your MBP onto your external drive. I suggest you start by cloning your MBP drive to the external drive:
Clone Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
This clone is fully bootable and also contains a clone of your Recovery HD.
Second, you need to do a clean install of OS X onto your MBP as follows:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should accomplish your goals. You will have a clean install of OS X on your MBP and a bootable clone of your old system and all your files on the external drive.

  • How to require field input using the this.mailDoc function

I have a this.mailDoc script in a form I'm putting together. It's working fine, but what I'm needing are instructions on how to require certain fields to be filled in before the this.mailDoc can execute. I know how to do this using the stock Submit Form button, but that won't work for me in my particular situation. Thoughts?

You have to use your own validation function to make sure the required
    fields are filled-in.
I've posted some code that does this on these forums a while ago... Try
    searching for "validate required fields".

  • How can I recover files from an iPod Touch (4th gen) prior to a required restore?

How can I recover files from an iPod Touch (4th gen) prior to a required restore?
The iPod Touch was working perfectly fine.  iTunes suggest that I update the iPod Touch to the latest operating software, and I proceeded to do so.  Then a message popped up stating that the iPod Touch needs to be fully restored - and that all data will be lost.  The iPod Touch now displays the 'plug into iTunes' screen, and is stuck there.  There are irreplaceable family momentos on the iPod Touch.  How can I recover files from an iPod Touch prior to a required restore?  HELP...

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.
You can restore from an existing backup

  • I have recently transferred data from my old Mac to my new one. The result was good, but I have 2 users now, whose data I want to merge into 1 single user, so to avoid having to switch from one user to the other to view and use certain files. How to do it

I have recently transferred data from my old Mac to my new one. The result was good, but I have 2 users now, whose data I want to merge into 1 single user, so to avoid having to switch from one user to the other to view and use certain files. How to do it?

    Here's an easy way:
Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
    That should do it.

  • How to do a clean install go yosemite and then just install certain files, apps, documents, phopt's, etc...from time machine backup?

How to do a clean install of yosemite (have Mavericks 10.9.5 now) and then just install certain files, apps, documents, phopt's, etc...from time machine backup?

Do a backup before doing anything.
If you want to make a clean install of Mountain Lion, boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R) on a restart, use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair  the disk and run Repair Permissions. Then erase the hard drive using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format using the Options button. Reinstall Yosemite. Restart normally and test. Use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to import what you want.
    Clean Install

  • How can I tell iTunes to NOT convert certain files from wma format?

I just got an iPod classic, and downloaded iTunes and it automatically started adding all my music. I have almost 5000 songs that are in wma format, and it started converting them all. Then after it got almost 2000 songs finished, it just stopped. For no reason. So I tried to continue it, and apparently there is no way to just continue where it stopped. It started over at the beginning and is now re-converting all the files it already converted.
It took over 24 hours to convert those first 2000 files. It seems completely unnecessary that it should have to re-convert them all over again.
Is there any way that I can tell it NOT to convert those specific files? I figured that you should be able to right-click the file and say "DO NOT CONVERT" or something along those lines, but that is not an option.
The only other way I've been able to figure out that I could do this is to manually add only the files that it didn't convert last time. But that is over 3000 files, and they are not in the same order on my hard drive that they are on in iTunes so I would never be able to figure out what files were done and what files were not done.
There HAS to be a way to just highlight certain files and tell iTunes NOT to convert them. Hasn't there?
Someone please help me. This is really irritating, and I do not feel like waiting for another 3 days for this to finish. I have other things I need to do on my computer, and it seems that while iTunes is converting, it is making everything else very slow.
    Thank you.

I know they need to be converted, but the problem is, 2000 of the 5000 have already been converted. now it's trying to convert them again. but there is no reason for that. i want to know how to convert the other files that weren't converted yet, without having to re-convert the ones that were already done.
I would move the ones that were done to a separate folder, but I don't know exactly what ones were done. In iTunes, they are the first 2000 or so in the list, but on my hard drive they are not in the same order.
Does anyone else know if there's a way to do this?

  • How to restore only certain files

i did an erase and install (hopefully to remove a problem that we and the apple store genius have ben unable to find. . i did not yet use time machine to migrate all files to the macbook because i want to migrate only certain files.  how do i migrate only some files selectively, and not all of them as would happen in doing a complete restore ?

Yes. You'll need to use the TM "Star Wars" interface to locate the files and restore.
Start by reading Pondini's TM articles here; http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html
FAQs 15, 15A and 16 are particulary of interest.
