How to restart an instance
Hi Guys,
My workflow involves multiple interaction with a partner system. Lets say there
are 3 of them. If the workflow does finish the first one successfully and lets
say the second one returns an error. What I want to do is that when this happens,
I go and manually take a corrective action on the partner system and then come
back and restart that instance from where it left. ie from interaction number
2 with whatever instanmce values were there. Can anybody please tell me if this
is possible. I am thinking of putting in manual steps at all these "exception"
conditions.
Also, is there a way I can make this happen programmatically ie after fixing
partner system. Can I just invoke some code which talks to Wli and triggers this
operaiton.
Munish
Hi,
/$sync it will reset the buffer as well as number ranges too. so i recomend /$TAB instead of /$Sync.
/$TAB will just reset the buffer without restarting the system.

How to restart Oracle instance from oracle client
I have an Oracle server 10g with DEVEL instance on AIX machine. I have an Oracle Client on Windows machine as well. I want to stop and start the instance DEV from my client using bat file. Is it possible ? Is anybody knows how to do it ?
KP>well, right now the correct question should be : how to start database.
I am able to login as sysdba to DEVEL on AIX ( from Windows client) and shutdown it but when I try to startup it returns such a message:
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
but I am still able to tnsping my DEVEL from client ...Post listener status, its contents and entry tnsnames.ora file. Here is how I got connected shutdown and started. The process I followed:
1)Made entry in listener.ora file as I said earlier, restarted the listener
2)Made change in tnsnames.ora file
3)Connect from client shutdown and started.

How to restart igswd.exe without restarting Centeral instance ??
Hi experts,
I setup MSCS configration based on NW04s ABAP.
I've found igswd.exe is SPOF, once it's down, it seems impossible to restart without restarting CI.
If anybody knows how to restart igswd.exe without restarting CI, Please instruct me.
I tried command as follow, but it seems to get freeze...
K:\usr\sap\BIC\DVEBMGS00\exe\igswd.EXE -m
ode=profile pf=
clstsap\sapmnt\BIC\SYS\profile\BIC_DVEBMGS00_txcls1
I am afraid I am not an expertise regarding IGS. Are there any solution to avoid unavailable of IGS using normal two node MSCS ??
Regards
MASAKI
Edited by: MASAKI KATSUSHIMA on Jan 24, 2008 3:48 PMI solved this problem.
the solution is just execute command
<Drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\DVEBMGS00\exe\sapstartsrv.exe pf=<Drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\profile\START_DVEBMGS00_hostname

How does 1 ASM instance in a 10 node RAC cause all 10 ASM instance to hang
Linux RHEL4
11.2.0.1.0 GI
11.2.0.1.0 RDBMS
11.1.0.7.0 RDBMS
10.2.0.4.4 RDBMS
Yesterday we had one of the ASM instance on our 10-node cluster hang with a latch "ASM file allocation latch". Oracle support has stated we are hitting a bug with is fixed in the latest PSU.
What I am trying to understand is how a latch on one ASM instance caused all 10 ASM instances to hang?
Oracle Supports explanation still does not answer how all 10 ASM instance were affected other then the faulty code that the patch fixes. Bellow is info out of the SAR.
Data Guard Site:
================
ARC1 PID 21508 reports ORA-240 'control file enqueue held for more than 120 seconds' at Thu Oct 28 11:35:54 2010. This message means ARC1 PID 21508 was holding the enqueue past the maximum tine limit of 120 seconds.
Next ARC0 PID 17398 reports ORA-16146: 'control file enqueue unavailable' at Thu Oct 28 11:36:52 2010. This means ARC0 PID 17398 tried to access the controlfile and it could get the lock.
ARC1 PID 21508 is then killed at Thu Oct 28 11:49:57 2010.
Killing enqueue blocker (pid=21508) on resource CF-00000000-00000000 by (pid=23078) by killing session 5.3
We see that RSM has been restarted by Broker. This matches to the alert.log and messages showing RSM being restarted several time. i.e. RSM0 started with pid=84, OS id=27915
Since this started happening around 11:14, the problem may have really started then instead of w/ the CF enqueue block.
The primary appears to be shipping redo to the standby using asynchronous mode. Unless there was a gap, I do no know if ARC1 should have been doing any remote network I/O. Because a log switch to thread 1 sequence 5235 had just happened at 11:33am, I suspect it was a local disk I/O that was started at least. The ORA-240 is reported at 11:35, exactly 120 sec (or 2min) from this log switch. Notice also the entry to show the log thread 1 sequence 5234 was registered to the controlfile didn't happen yet.
ASM Side:
============
From the systemstate dump on ASM, multiple processes are waiting on 'ASM file allocation latch' and we are kind of stuck on stack:
ksedsts()+461<-ksdxfstk()+32<-ksdxcb()+1782<-sspuser()+112<-0000003218E0C5B0<-kfuhInsert()+175<-kffilCreate()+601<-kfnsUFG()+3691<-kfnsBackground()+4382<-kfnDispatch()+527<-opiodr()+1149<-ttcpip()+1251<-opitsk()+1633<-opiino()+958<-opiodr()+1149<-opidrv()+570<-sou2o()+103<-opimai_real()+133<-ssthrdmain()+214<-main()+201<-__libc_start_main()+219
This caused the hang on the ASM side and hence ASM was not responding to the database. The CF Enqueue issue on the database was a side effect of this.
This is a direct <BUG:9232266> which is a duplicate of <BUG:8974548>Thanks Murali,
I was little reluctent to open a tar since my experince says that its better to troubleshoot the issue yourself instead of spending time with the Oracle support :)
Well, I got some more information on this : the sql for the process id of ASM instance is :
Alter Diskgroup mount all;
It looks like it is unable to mount the diskgroup and get hunged at that point , is it due to the new disk added to the system or do we missed something after adding the new disk.
Also, the ASM process can not be killed from unix box while the ASM is down.
Will appreciate your time if we can move in any directions from here ..
Thanks ,

Hi
I have seen a couple of topics on how to restart a running java program .. and here is a sollution .. i'm sure there are more ..
you have to start your program using a batch file .. and it sould look like this:
:start
..\j2sdk1.4.0_02\jre\bin\java -classpath . YourProgram
if errorlevel 1 goto start
the last line checks if the program is exited with errorcode 1 and if that is the case the program starts over(it goes to :start) .. and if not the program exits ..
The java code for a restart is simple: System.exit(1);
And the code for plain exit is System.exit(0);
Hope it will help somebody .. :)
// Anders OrsedalNeat, shouldn't it be neater still to do all of it from java? Am I wrong if guess that you should be able to start a new instance from inside of java, before letting it kill itself?
e.g.
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java .... .");
System.exit(whatever value);

How to restart ipad once battery has run down
how to restart ipad once battery has run down
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. How to start weblogic instance using wlserv ant task
Hi,
Iam using weblogic 8.1
Iam trying to write build script which starts remote weblogic instance and does deploy using wldeploy and restarts the instance.
First iam trying with starting weblogic.
==============================
<wlserver
dir="${server.project.root.dir}"
domainName="${weblogic.domain.name}"
serverName="${weblogic.server.name}"
host="10.106.90.50"

weblogicHome="${weblogic.home}/weblogic81"
username="weblogic"
password="password"
args = "-XX:MaxPermSize=512M -Xms256m -Xmx512m"
action="start">
<classpath refid="weblogic.classpath"/>
</wlserver>
==============================
Iam getting an issue here , it starts the weblogic but automatically it stops the weblogic , without any exception.
as per their documentation
"When you use the wlserver task in an Ant script, the task does not return control until the specified server is available and listening for connections. If you start up a server instance using wlserver, the server process automatically terminates after the Ant VM terminates. If you only connect to a currently-running server using the wlserver task, the server process keeps running after Ant completes."
I understand what they are saying , but what is the remedy to it , how to rectify it. I tried starting default server it gives NPE.
ITs kinda very urgent for me any help , or available scripts will be very use ful.
Thanks in advance.meghab,
Thanks for the reply.
I tried using java task , now the server is starting sucessfully but iam getting exception while starting the Queue.
Here is my ant task.

How to run multiple Instances of wls5.1 under one instance
Hello forum,I want to make 3 instance of weblogic that runs under one instance,but
i don't know how.
for example I will like to have the following.
Weblogic is my main instance,so i will like to have more instances called web,db,batch
witch run on their own under.
Weblogic/web,db,batch,
I have made the 4 instance first weblogic has empty weblogic.properties file,
and the otheres 3 have their full weblogic.properties,my problem is how can I
refer eatch instance individually, that means the
subinstances like web,db,batch in my startweb.cmd,startdb.cmd,startbatch.cmd
I don't know how to start eatch instance alone.
HELPTo run more than 1 instance of Logic at the same time, you really need 2 copies as while the license allows you to install on 2 machines (1 laptop 1 desktop ideally), they can not run at the same time.
So, where now? Well there is a legitimate way around this, assuming you have a fast enough network between the 2 computers and that is to have 1 machine running as a Logic Node to share the work out. When I'm not 'Out and about' I could use the MacBook Pro as a node for my home setup (For example) running some of the soft synths for example. -
How to Patch Multiple Instances on same oracle home
Hi All
I Have 4 Instances running on server like below
DEVSTAG /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0
DEVUAT /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0
DEVREVT /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0
DEVREG /opt/oracle/product/11.2.0
i want to Apply the patch set 11.1.0.7.1 to DEVUAT & DEVREVT Instances , Can someone please help .. i dont want this patch set applied to DEVSTAG Instance .. how to exclude that Instance from getting patched ?
Thanks in advance .. hope my requirement is clear.Which patch are you referring to ? The database patching tool (opatch) generally applies any database patch to an ORACLE_HOME. You will need to follow the instructions in the README of the patch. If you need to only patch one instance, then you will have to create a dedicated ORACLE_HOME for each database (i.e they will not share database executables). If you share ORACLE_HOME amongst multiple instances, then you will have to patch all of them simultaneously.

How to restart base station from airport utility? I used to be able to do it remotely
I currently use a Mac Pro 10.8.4 and have a time machine for wireless 6.3 (630.34). Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet and use network preferences to diagnose the issue. This results in being told to restart the wireless. The airport utility includes the drop down option of restarting but is not clickable so I can't choose it.
With my prior macbook and same time capsule, etc if i had problems connecting to the internet I would run network diagnostics to help out. This included clicking on the airport utility ---> base station --> restart. This worked most of the time.
Bottom line, is there something I am missing in not being able to restart the wi-fi remotely? ]
Thanks in advanceYou are likely forgetting a step.
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the small window that appears
Now click the Base Station menu.....top of the screen....not the Base Station "tab" in the center of the screen
Click Restart -
