  • How to restart HTTP Server, OC4J after failure.

    Hi ,
    I want to test "Death detection and Automatic Restart" feature for a failed instance.
    Environment details :
    - Oracle 10g AS Release 2. (J2EE and Web Cache)
    - Microsoft Windows XP OS
    Here are the steps that I have done to implement this for HTTP Server.
    1) Following change done in opmn.cml file
    <process-set id="HTTP_Server" restart-on-death="true" numprocs="1">
    <module-data>
    <category id="start-parameters">
    <data id="config-file" value="D:\OraHome_1\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf"/>
    <data id="start-mode" value="ssl-disabled"/>
    <data id="command-line" value="-D MyDefine"/>
    </category>
    <category id="ping-parameters">
    <data id="ping-url" value="/"/>
    </category>
    <category id="restart-parameters">
    <data id="reverseping-timeout" value="345"/>
    <data id="no-reverseping-failed-ping-limit" value="3"/>
    <data id="reverseping-failed-ping-limit" value="6"/>
    </category>
    </module-data>
    <start timeout="60" retry="3"/>
    <stop timeout="60"/>
    <restart timeout="30"/>
    <ping timeout="30" interval="30"/>
    </process-set>
    2) Running following command
    - opmnctl reload opmn.xml
    - dcmctl resyncinstance -ct ohs
    - dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn
    To test this out, I execute this command
    - opmnctl stopproc ias-component=HTTP_Server
    Will the HTTP Server restart automatically after 30 second ?
    Is the "restart-on-death" feature is default ?

    From Metalink Note:298551.1
    By default, as in the schema definition file, opmn.xsd, the restart-on-death parameter takes a default BOOLEAN value of "TRUE" which means that OPMN mandate is to ping the managed processes ( OC4J instances and Apache ) at certain pre-defined intervals, monitor them for a response within a certain specified timeout period and retry the operation 3 times before concluding that the process is dead due to its non-responsive state and killing and restarting it to guarantee that the managed processes are up and able to service client requests on an ongoing basis - this is OPMN's mandate in ensuring failover and availability of the processes it manages.
    "restart-on-death" is defalt?

  • How to rebuild the Password Server?

    I have over a dozen customer servers running 10.4.3 now, which have been set up under either Panther or some older Tiger Server release.
    All of them show some kind of corruption in the Password Server database which means that after restarting the server passwords stop working, the Trusted Binding of client Macs fails etc. etc. - absolutely intolerable in every way.
    10.4.3 is supposed to prevent this widespread corruption from happening again, but it seems to been unable to heal an already damaged database. One might assume that reentering the passwords should create new working records, but so far I don't see this to be the case.
    So it looks like starting from scratch is the only save procedure here, but this is very tedious and likely to introduce new problems because you'll always overlook some detail somewhere.
    Anybody managed to just trash the Password Server database while keeping the rest of the Open Directory setup?
    Thanks,
    Norbert

    The other thing i did notice was that once and a
    while i got a overflow file and went in and opened
    the overflow in a text editor and found the user name
    and uid deleted the user deleted the overflow files
    and recreated the user without any issues. I was
    going 8 weeks without any overflow files until a
    recent power outage (APC got fried and died during a
    very large storm).
    Can someone explain what an overflow file is? We just had it happen to a server, running 10.4.3, and the password server quits after a bit. I'm not sure how many are logged in before it quits.

    Hi Yuri,
    As you are in Development mode you have one options to use the Auto Deploy folder which can be found in the following path (domain_name/autodeploy).
    More information on Auto Deployment check the below link:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/deployment/autodeploy.html#wp1021626
    Other option is to use the following parameter "*page-check-seconds*" in your weblogic.xml file

    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57400956-263/apple-issues-software-installe r-update/
    explains what might be going on.
    I noted that one of the updates in the list for my wife's iMac was an update to Software Update itself. Probably to fix this very problem. But it wasn't being applied due to Software Update itself not working.
    I considered two solutions.
    (1) Uncheck all the updates except that one update to Software Update. Then after fixing Software Update, apply all the other updates remaining. I did NOT try this approach.
    (2) Download and install the "combo update" for 10.6 -- from here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
    I decided to try solution #2. It's a large download, 1 GB, but the whole process took less than 15 minutes. The "combo" update checks and reapplies every update since the beginning of 10.6, so if something is missing or amiss, it gets filled in. It's done manually, by downloading the update, opening the .dmg file, and running the update. When I did this, it fixed the Software Update issue because I then reran Software Update and additional, new updates were found and they all installed fine. Software Update was working as it should. I then ran it a third time and some additional ones were found, also then successfully applied. Finally, no new updates were found by Software Update, which mean everything is up to date.
    I can't be sure if your issue is the same as mine (the bug in the CNET article above) but I'm guessing that the combo update will resolve your issue.

  • How to make changes effect in log4j.xml without restarting weblogic server

    Hi ,
    I have successfully configured log4j in my weblogic server 8.1.
    Everytime i made a change in log4j.xml i need to restart the server
    is there any configuration or parameter to set without restarting server??
    Thanks in advance,
    CK

    I don't think you need to restart the server, atleast I never needed to when making changes to jsp pages. You only need to restart when you make changes to java classes. Some might argue jsp is converted to servlet which is a java class.....
    Try refreshing the page when you make any changes. This works for me, if it doesn't work try turning reloadable="true" in your context path in tomcat's server.xml

  • How to start the server. Urgent.

    I mistakenly deleted the icon from the Start menu, to start the SAP IDES server in my laptop. How to start the server from any other path.
    I installed it in E drive (2003 server). Database path is F drive.

    Hi,
    Check the following path
    E:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SapGui
    Here the actual Logon Pad file would be stored with name "SAPLOGON" or "SAPLGPAD".
    Create another shortcut for above file on your desktop.
    Best regards,
    Prashant

  • How to restart server forcelly

    I want to restart my server forcelly.
    Can any body help me to do this.
    I will thank ful.

    On word - Power cord.
    Pull it out. Wait 30 seconds. Push back in.
    But if you want a sofware solution then all such solution will require OS specific code, which means you would need to specify what OS and version you are working on.

  • OS 10.4 clients cannot access Shared Mac folder on W2k Server - URGENT

    We have a network of about 25 computers, 10 or so of them are Mac OS 10.4, the rest are Win XP Pro PCs. We have a server dedicated to file sharing. We basically have one main shared folder called "FILES". This is shared for PCs and Macs. Recently after a restart of the server (for regular maintenance), the Macs could not see the shared Mac volume (FILES), PCs could access the share without a problem. After a few minutes (15 or so) the Macs could all of a sudden see the share and
    everything was fine.
    However, we just restarted the server again and we're having the same issue again. The difference is, this time, after waiting for a few hours, the Macs still cannot see the Mac Share. The macs connect to the server via TCP/IP, the users use their usernames and passwords and can connect to the server, however, the only volume they see is the Micrsoft UAM volume.
    When we created a different folder and shared it (through MMC), the Macs could see and access that one.
    We get an Event ID 12061 in the System Event Log as the user tries to connect to the share. I found a Microsoft KB article, but no solution to the problem was given. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q136300/
    Here are some things I have tried to remedy the issue, please keep in mind we cannot change the name of the share (FILES) becuase of the thousands of file mappings in quark, etc.:
    Again Restarted Server
    Stopped Sharing the folder, then reshared it
    Stopped sharing the folder
    Uninstalled / Reinstalled Appletalk Protocol from network adapter
    Uninstalled / Reinstalled File Services for Macintosh [Restarted]
    Uninstalled / Reinstalled Appletalk Protocol from network adapter again [Restarted]
    Reshared the folder
    Created a new mac share called TEST (Macs could see and access)
    Moved data from Files to TEST, now Macs could not see TEST
    Moved data back to FILES
    Created a folder called FILES2, moved data from FILES to FILES2
    Stopped sharing FILES (PC and Mac), renamed FILES to FILES1
    Renamed FILES2 to FILES (Macs could not see volume)
    It seems as though the problem is with an individual file or two, which sort of corresponds the what Microsoft has written regarding the error.
    Has anyone had any experience with this issue? Any insight or solution to this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    It's very important to be as specific as possible when discussion network service access. In your question, it sounds like you want the macs to attach to FILES using SMB/CIFS, but you also call it a Mac share, so it's not obvious if you mean an AFP share or just a share for Macs to use.
    You should know that the Macs can connect to either AFP or SMB volumes, and they can browse for SMB over TCP/IP and AFP over both TCP/IP and Appletalk (Appletalk must be turned on and browsing active in Directory Access).
    Connecting via SMB to a volume hosted on Windows2K or higher server will fail with the default settings, which require secure connections not supported by Mac OS X (because Samba doesn't support it). To overcome that problem, see this article:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030922153448490&query=-5000
    (scroll down to one of the top-level replies, which explains in detail how to deactivate secure connections)
    You might also be able to improve reliability by editing the SMB settings in Directory Access and setting a WINS server, but it depends on your network.

  • HT4827 How do you disable Server OS X in Mountain Lion?

    I read the article provided by apple on how to disable the OS X server in Lion found at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4827.
    I did as instructed, but in step 6, there is no "Dedicate system resources to server services" option.
    The problem I am having is related to the mail program.  It is a common problem, but none of the fixes are working for my computer.  I can receive mail fine, but when I go to send mail it says that "An error occurred while trying to sign this message with a certificate from “[email protected]”. Verify that your certificate for this address is correct, and that its private key is in your keychain."  I have it set up to where my password is the auth. for the account.
    I am new to mac and most of the jargon is over my head.  If anyone can provide new info on how to uninstall the server and fix my mail, I would be extremely happy!

    I tried that. I deleted it and restarted.  It did not delete.

  • Can't log in to Lion Server. Open Directory Log Message says: unable to connect to password server

    I am setting up Lion Server. I can't log in to Lion Server from client.
    Checking the Open Directory Log: says: "unable to connect to password server" or
    "3394.14268, Node: /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1, Module: AppleODClient - unable to read Password Server response - connection to Password Server was closed, socket fd 18 (5205)"
    Thanks for help with this.

    I never discovered the problem, and instead rebuilt the server from the ground up.  I followed instructions at this discussion thread.  Very helpful.
    How To Install A (Almost) Working Lion Server With Profile Management/SSL/OD/Mail/iCal/Address Book/VNC/Web/etc.
    I have had some log-in problems with users.  I have found that restarting the server helps. If this doesn't work, I rebuild permissions on the server, followed by opening up Workgroup Manager, go to the user's password, click on options and require that the user change password on the next log-in. For some reason, this will usually fix the problem.  I then log in as the user, and "change" the password to the original one. Also note, that if you import a user, the password is not brought in.  You must enter it for each user that you imported.  Even so, I have often had to resort to the re-set password procedure to enable a log-in.
