How to restore "trash" elements?

Hi.
Since I accidentally moved several elements (mainly used in Microsoft office) to the trash, I was hoping that someone could tell me how to restore these files?
Some of the elements I need to restore are crucial in order for me to run Microsoft office programs, so I really hope that it is possible to restore them.
As a former windows user, I recall how it was to possible to restore elements in the trash. Furthermore these various elements would be restored at its original location, which is the key point of this issue. Since I dont remember where the elements originally was placed, I was hoping that the computer had a "restore to original location" function!?
Regards

Yes, I am aware that you can simply drag the file back to its original location, only there are approximately 30 different locations, so that "remove to original location" function would be somewhat easier;-)
In regards to the names of the deleted files they range from; png, pdf, jpg, tif, thm, mp3, mp4, mpg, avi, wmv, etc. As mentioned I do not know the original location of the majority of the files and were talking about 2.200 elements, so it would be quite comprehensible to move them one by one. Is there not an easier way?
@ neuroanatomist, where is these "put back" function located?? I'm not sure if I have the Mac OSX 10.6 though.
Kind regards

If you have already used your computer after emptying the trash, the trashed items would have been over written.  Cannot retrieve unless you take your computer to a professional data retriever which cost big bucks.  If you have not used your computer - "Data Rescue II" from prosofteng.com has a free download demo available.

  • How to restore trashed events

I trashed some events in FCPX 10.1.1 According to the manual I should be able to restore these but I cannot work out how to do this.
The events did not go into the finder trash, so I presume there is a trash withing the FCPX library, but I cannot find how to acess this in order to restore the events.
    Can anyone help please?

I tried trashing a little test event. In FCP X, I control-clicked on the library where that event resided, and chose "Reveal in Finder"; then in the Finder, control-clicked to "Show Package Contents". Sure enough, there was a folder called __Trash, containing my deleted event. Then I quit FCP X and the __Trash folder vanished.
So if you want to recover a deleted event, you will probably need to do it before you quit FCP X.
Now as to actually recovering it, it seems not to be completely straightforward (unless you can undo back to the point where you deleted it, but then you might call it straightbackward... couldn't resist :-)).
Here is a way that may work (no guarantees, of course).
    0) Make a duplicate of your library, just in case the following goes wrong somehow.
    1) make a copy of the event from the __Trash folder and store it elsewhere.
    2) quit FCP X
    3) In the Finder, control-click to "Show Package Contents" and place the event folder you copied in step 1 in the appropriate location within the library
    4) move the .flexolibrary outside the library package (if all goes well, you may delete this file later)
    5) start FCP X again. Hopefully, everything will be restored.
A little explanation regarding step 4: the .flexolibrary contains the database that tells FCP X what is in the library. Just moving the event folder back will not update the database; that is why if you omit this step you won't see the event, even though it is there. If this file is not present, FCP X will reconstruct it from the package contents.

  • How to restore trashed Address Book file?

    Hi,
I had launched Address Book (and Mail 2.1.1) and was creating some new groups. All of a sudden I got the spinny colored cursor. I waited awhile, then did a Force Quit. Now when I launch Address Book all my addresses and groups are gone. Any way to restore them?
    Thanks!

    Your may restore them from…
    • a contemporary backup copy originally created using the Back Up Address Book option in that application
    • a synchronized copy of your contact data maintained at .Mac or on another synchronized computer
    • in limited cases, by doing this:
    1. navigate to Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Application Support:AddressBook
    2. drag the AddressBook.data file out of that folder to the Desktop
    3. duplicate the AddressBook.data.previous file
    4. rename the duplicated file AddressBook.data
    5. launch the Address Book application
If the third option fails and you have not previously synchronized or backed up your data files, there is no way to recover the data. You should periodically back your contact data using the option to do so provided in the Address Book application, and perform a similar process for event and task data with the option provided in iCal.

  • How to restore accidently removed iPhoto library from Trash?

I have iPhoto Library Manager (version 3.5.5) and am employing it successfully with my iMac (OS X 10.5.8) to manage my iPhoto Library [iPhoto '09 version 8.1 (415)] which I have divided into 47 libraries at about 4 GB each.
This morning I accidently removed iPhoto Library #36 from my iPhoto Library list of 47 libraries! Ouch! Naturally I wish to restore it ASAP.
I opened up Trash and found iPhoto Library #36 in the SEARCH FOR/ Today folder. When I open it up it appears to be intact with all 756 photos present. However, I am not certain how to restore this library. When I perform a right click on the iPhoto Library #36 line item a menu pops up, but nowhere in the menu is a Restore option.
Can anybody advise me how to proceed to restore this library? I want to be sure that I do this correctly so as not to lose any of these images in the process.

any idea how i restore my office email account, looks like i have moved all items to trash and now have no email account ! no time machine either

let's go back to your original post: what do you mean "it looks like you moved all items to trash"??
You DID move them to trash? (we can discuss WHY once we cure you)...
Can you open a window in finder and get to  applications and then to utilities? Is MAIL in there?
And your "office email account"-- do you mean physical office, like place of work and you want that account in your mac mail on your computer?  ~OR~ do you mean, microsoft office, mail account?
The difference is necessary to know...

    Hey there TizJacky,
If I understand correctly there were pictures in your Mac OS trash which has been emptied, and want to restore them. In order to do this, you would need to have had Time Machine setup and backing up your computer before this occurred. This article will help you out if you did:

  • I accidentally removed some ms office files from macbook through app cleaner . now they are in trash . how to restore them as some applications are not opening

i just downloaded appscleaner from net and accidentally removed some of the ms office files like database utility , entourage ,etc. now when i open word, excel , it shows some message . how to restore the files. i tried by dragging them to the desktop but  don't know how to reinstall them at original place.

Dragging them to desktop was not a good idea. Now you need to know where they came from.
For any still in the Trash right-click on the file and select "put back" from the context menu.
What version of Office, and what are the file names? We may be able to help you trace where they should be.

  • How to restore Emails to Mail from Time Machine?

Does anyone know how I restore my Mail contents?
I have restored my User to a Mac mini from Time Machine.
But my Mail contents were not restored.
I have not been able to find any intructions to restore my Mail contents.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)?    I tried backup & restore without success.  I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there.  Only the text that I entered shows.  I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.

UPDATE:  By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored.  When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer.  Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location).  No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact.  I am appreciative that I just got lucky.  The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help.  If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product.  Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line:  All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer.  I hope my experience helps others.

*Problem 1*: How to restore settings to I Movie 08.
Context - Closing I Movie was invited to change from original to new settings. Accepted new setting, the result a disastrous loss of image in both photos and video of an edition. Chromatized. More info on I Movie 08 thread.
*Problem 2*: Hundreds of photos in IPhoto Recovered Photo files in Trash. I am wanting to delete the files without having to unlock each individual photo. Possible to do? If so, how?
P.S. No New Topic option operating on IPhoto Forum.
Thanks for any help. First is urgent because it is a Birthday present.

    Hello,
I'm not certain if this will help the iMovie problem...
Restoring a video clip or photo to its original state
Select the video frames or photo that you want to restore.
Click the Video Adjustments or Audio Adjustments button to open the Video Adjustments or Audio Adjustments window.
    Video Adjustments button
    Audio Adjustments button
In the Adjustments window, click “Revert to Original.”

  • How do I reinstall Elements 8 after Hard Drive Crash

C Drive irreparably crashed.  The PSE8 catalog folder was in C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Adobe, etc. and was backed up on a different drive (Yay Me!).  The Pictures were in E:\ Elements Pictures\ (117 GB). When Windows was reinstalled, the Drive Letters were changed by the reinstall program, such that the Windows boot drive is now the E drive and the Pictures are on the D: drive, but still in their original folder.  (Ultimately, the plan to get a new Drive, rename it C, and reinstall Windows on it.)
It appears that I cannot use "Backup and Restore" as is the common response to "How do I move Elements and Pictures to a new Computer?"
I can reinstall PSE8 on my E (boot) drive, then replace the new catalog folder with the old one which has my data.  How do I then get that catalog to look to the Pictures on the drive which has a new letter (D)?  I cannot reinstate the old drive letter, as that letter is now in use as the boot drive letter.
Am I better off just waiting for the new C drive, reinstalling Windows there, replacing the catalog folder, and relettering the Pictures drive to its old Letter?  It may be awhile before I get the new C drive as I am waiting for Seagate to replace under warranty the dead drive, and would like to if at all possible continue to use PSE8 in the interim.
Many Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • How to Restore iPhoto Library from BackUp?

My iPhoto library has gone blank, although its trash has the 4,555 images. And all organization, albums, keywords, photo names, gone. Recently my backup storage, where library kept, went blank. I got a new backup, and a pro restored most of old data, and transfered to new one. So, I have the Library on the new backup, and need to restore it in the iPhoto Library, rather than create a new one, which as I understand will lose albums, keywords, etc. A friend says that way to hold down a key when opening iPhoto that will have it look for old library and restore? Not in Help or elsewhere.
I had a MacBook Pro, when this first happen. Now have iMac and have iLife 09, but don't want to instal it until photo library restored.
Sounds basic, but how to restore.
    Thanks,
    Armando

    Armando
The simplest way to restore is to put the Library in the Pictures Folder and launch iPhoto.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' To select a Library.

  • How to restore photos after i tried to delete them, they are still there

I tried to delete some photos to give me room on my start up disc. First I tried saving them to a thumb drive then tried deleting the pix. The photos come up blank but I still see them sometimes. how do I restore them completely.
part 2 what is the best way to store them off the hard drive?

assuming that you deleted them in iPhoto to totally remove them empty the iPhoto trash and then the system trash
to move your entire iPhoto library to an external drive
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
How to restore them - if you deleted tehm in iPhoto open the iPhoto trash and right click on them and restore to library
