How to revert a database back to one day previous state.

Hi,
Of course, if no backup, then no restore.
However, unfortunately there is NO database backup available i.e. export/expdp/OS Backup/RMAN/Flashback. But, the requirement is to prepare another database on another server with one day back state. So, can we take fresh backup of the database which has all the archived logs, and restore it on another server as one day back previous state.
Is there any possible way to do this by using existing archive logs? Can LogMiner help in this regard?
Thanks,
SYED.

Technically you could get lucky - but I wouldn't want to pretend that the following procedure is sensible or a safe way to back out a production system.
If you have all the archived redo logs since the moment you want to get back to then you could, in principle, copy the database, run up logminer and extract all the UNDO_SQL that it gives you from the present back to the point in time you want to get to. You can then apply this, one transaction at a time, in reverse order of original application.
Problems I can think of:
<ul>
a) It's likely to take a long time to do this, and you'll probably want to have a lot of manual control and checking.
b) If you've done any drop tables or truncate tables in the interval you can't reverse them out.
c) If you've done any nologging dataloads you won't be able to reverse those out
d) There may be some data types that logminer won't cope with
</ul>
Other people may like to supply more reasons why this is not a good idea for a production system - but it might just be good enough to solve whatever problem you have.

It is also important to mark answers that you thought helpful - again it lets other people know that you appreciate their help, but more importantly it also means that when you mark a bad or wrong answer as helpful someone may be prompted to tell you (and the rest of the forum) why the answer you found helpful is bad or wrong.

  • Ical events got pushed back by one day throughout the entire calendar

Well, first of all, I can't find the iCal.plist file in my preferences folder.
Either way, I don't think that will solve my problem: the dates and days on my ical are correct, but the events and to-dos are all moved back by one day. It's as if the layer containing the events got accidentally moved around and misplaced on the layer containing dates. I mean, every single one of them throughout the entire calendar history!! I think I pressed something while I was doing something on ical the other day, but this has never happened in the past 4 years. How can I fix this?

I've had this same issue 2 times now (I'm also on the same setup as you).
What has worked for me is the workaround listed here:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070313180838582
To simplify, copy the script shown in the last post into a text file called:
correctBirthdays (no file extension such as .txt is necessary)
and save it into your home directory. Once you've done that:
    1. Back up your Address Book with the 'File > Back up Address Book...' menu item
    2. Open the Terminal application
    3. In Terminal, type *chmod 755 correctBirthdays* to make the script executable.
    4. Type *./correctBirthdays -1* and hit enter. If you're coming back from Japan, you'll want to use 1 instead of -1 to move the birthdays forward instead of back a day.
    5. That's it. Terminal will report how many birthdays were corrected.
I'm guessing that this problem has been fixed in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, and that's why musicale can't reproduce the issue.
    Hope this helps!
(and I take no responsibility if you mess something up! It should work though.)

  • How to Import/Export database tables from one server to other in oracle8i

    Hello friend,
Please can any one tell me how to import/export groups of database tables from one server with oracle to another using VB.net. It would be nice if some one can provide some code of it.
I am a software developer and I am in middle of a large project development, in which I need to export a large oracle database from one server to another efficiently.
Its very urgent so please someone help me.

    At command prompt (source db)
    set ORACLE_SID=db_name
    exp system/password@db_name full=y buffer=104857600 file=(c:\file1.dmp, c:\file2.dmp....) log=c:\exp.log filesize=2000M
Then ftp the export dump files (in binary) to the other server or copy to target server over the network.
    At command prompt (target db)
    set ORACLE_SID=db_name
    imp system/password@db_name full=y ignore=y buffer=104857600 file=(c:\file1.dmp, c:\file2.dmp....) log=c:\imp.log filesize=2000M
If the path names of the datafiles are going to be different in the target server (as compared to the source), then precreate the tablespaces before import. Set buffer value accordingly.

  • My iMac has created different iPhoto libraries? Why and how can I bring all back to one library?

My iMac has created seperate iPhoto libraries for some reason. So now I have all my photos seperated amongst 4 libraries.
Why did iMac do this or what did I do unwittingly that caused this?
How do I combine all the photos back into just one library?

Your iMac has not created seperate ;libraries - that can only happen if you direct it done adn only you know what you did.
What are the names of the 4 libraries?
what version of iPhoto do you have? Do you have Aperturte? Unless you have iPhoto 9.3 and Apertrue 3.3 or newer the only way to merege libraries is using the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -

  • I have an album which has split all the songs, how do i consolidate it back into one album

I have an album that has been split into individual  songs each showing as an album. The songs have been put into one folder labelled with the album name. How do I merge all of the songs so that they apear in one album?

    Try to re-download the album

  • I purchased CDs and imported them into my iTunes and when the artists has other artists featured on the tracks it separates these tracks into a different album. How can I consolidate these back into one album?

I have CDs that I've purchased from music stores (ie. Best Buy) and have imported them into my itunes library. The problem is that iTunes has separated all the tracks that feature another artist into a separate album. I want all the songs filed under the same album, so that when I play the whole album, I can hear all the songs. Also when the album work is not showing up on some of these CDs. How can I fix this?

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

  • I have two groups for my Coldplay collection. How do I get them back into one group?

In early 2009, my Coldplay collection jumped from their then-four studio albums to a collection in triple digits. Somewhere along the way, certain songs and albums were going into a separate group called 'Coldplay', just like the regular 'Coldplay'. Countless times, I have gone through each and every song and album in the second group to check for any inconsistincies, but, everything looks identical.
I am OCD in terms of things belonging where they should and having two groups of the same thing drive me insane.
When the problem first arose, I was using Windows XP. I received a MacBook Pro for graduation this past May and I used Home Sharing to transfer my music to my new Mac. I was hoping something could be changed, but alas, nothing.
    Any help?

Look at Steve MacGuire's helpful article:  http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp  It explains how to solve this much better than I can.

  • How to revert VMWare RAC OBE toolkit to its original state?

I have installed the Oracle By Example VMWare RAC toolkit and I have done a few of the tutorials. But now I think I have made a mess of it, so I want to revert my virtual machine to its original state, just as it was when I had just installed it. How can I do it? I took several snapshots as I went along with the tutorials, but none of them is good for me.
I hope I do not have to install the whole environment again.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Well if you didn't take a snapshot of original state then you can only delete all .vmdk files and extract original one again ...

  • How Can I Get Safari Back to it's Original State?

I recently noticed Safari taking up an amazing amount of memory. If I opened 5-10 tabs activity monitor would show that all memory was used, and safari would slow to a crawl with beach balls left and right. I thought Safari was simply a memory hog. But the other day I decided to create another user account and use Safari in the same way I use it on my original account.
On the new account I opened 5, 10, 25 tabs and I still had plenty of memory left over. So I'm guessing something I did with Safari, an added extension or something, is causing the memory link. I thought about simply switching to the new user account, but that would take a lot of work. Instead, I'd like to 'fix' Safari in my main user account. I know I can uninstall all extensions, but what else can I do to get Safari as close as I can to it's original state, and hopefully fix the memory issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

But the other day I decided to create another user account and use Safari in the same way I use it on my original account.
When the same problem exists in multiple user accounts, the startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility  (Applications/Utilities) Select your startup disk in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions here.
