How to run SAP BUSINESS ONE 8.8 clients on windows and use MaxDB on linux/W

Good day,
As the subject shows we have SAP BUSINESS ONE 8.8 and I want to find out how to use it in combination with MaxDB instead of MS SQL. I find a lot of MaxDB stuff on the net but no guides on how to setup SAP BUSINESS ONE 8.8 clients on windows workstations and connect them to MaxDB.
Is this possible and if so how do I go about doing it ?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated .

Hi,
I suggest you to check the supported server for B1 in this link:
http://service.sap.com/smb/sbo/platforms
You will know the sap b1 supported platform.
If you really want to use maxDB on linux/W as B1 server, you can send a development request to SAP AG.

  • Running SAP Business One on a 64-bit server

One of our clients wants to upgrade their server to a 64-bit server running Windows Server 2008.
What are the implications of this and do we also need to then use Microsoft SQL Server 2008?
I went to this web link: https://websmp103.sap-ag.de/smb/sbo/platforms and found some info, but the questions I still have is the following:
    1. If we upgrade to SQL 2008, do we have to buy licenses or can we also just get an installation from SAP with our software (if we've gone live over 2 years ago already on SQL 2000, then upgraded to SQL 2005).
    2. Can we still stay on SQL 2005 or is it better to use SQL 2008 and what is the implications?
I found the following on the link posted above:
Mar 11: SAP Business One 2007 now supports Microsoft® SQL Server 2008.
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is now fully supported by SAP Business One 2007 A (as of patch 47) and SAP Business One 2007 B (as of patch 10), including SAP-developed add-ons.
Jan 21: SAP Business One 2007 now supports Microsoft® Windows Server 2008.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is now fully supported by SAP Business One 2007 A (as of patch 46) and SAP Business One 2007 B (as of patch 09), including SAP-developed add-ons. 64-bit and WTS support are still pending and will be announced when available.
What exactly does the bold part mean?
Any tips/hints on making this decision will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Adele

    Hi Adele,
"64-bit and WTS support are still pending and will be announced when available" means that Windows 2008 64bit has not been tested working with SAP Business One yet. Thus not supported (yet).
    Same applies to W indows T erminal S erver 32bit and 64bit.

I am not sure if procedure as described in note [928839|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMSZ3PTU4ODAwMDAr)/bc/bsp/spn/smb_searchnotes/display.htm?note_langu=E&note_numm=928839] will apply. In order to get excact clarification I have asked the owner of the note to update it reagarding MSSQL 2008 licenses.

Yes, you can still stay on MSSQL 2005 and upgrade later to MSSQL 2008. The other way around will not work. MSSQL 2008 is currently supported only as of SAP Business One 2007 A PL47 or SAP Business One 2007 B PL10. • SAP Business One 32 Bit Client freezing when printing?

    Hi Everyone,
I am experiencing an issue with printing on a SAP Business One 32 Bit Client. The client is installed onto a Windows 7 (x64) Professional computer, and the business I work for uses the version of Business One shown below -
The issue that is being experienced is as follows - assuming that an appropriate (printable) document is loaded, e.g.: a Delivery Note, then selecting File (menu) > Print:
20 second delay to 'load' the printer selection dialog, then after clicking on OK (to print)
30 second delay until 'paper is printed', during which time the SAP Business One User Interface freezes!
I have identified that this issue only occurs with SAP, e.g.: printing of Word documents, PDFs, emails, etc responds in the expected amount of time (and none of the a fore mentioned programs experiences any freezing with their User Interfaces).
In order to remedy this I first downloaded and installed the newest printer driver for the printer, however when no improvement was noticed I made the decision to uninstall and then re-install Business One. In doing so I followed the method outlined below -
Even after performing all of the above I have seen no improvement in printing or program responsiveness. If you have experienced this issue, and you know a fix can you please contribute to this forum thread?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • How to restore SAP Business One Backup?

    Hi all,
When I schedule SAP Business One Backup using Server tools, it creating compressed backup file. This contest of compressed file having .BU extension.
Now my qeestion is how do I restore this backup file?
    Thanks in advance
    B Ravi Shankar

    Hello,
Open SQL Server Management Studio (SQL 2005) or Enterprise Manager (SQL 2000). You could directly restore the backup of the database but you must create new database first where its mdf and log files are located in the certain folder or data folder of SQL server and then restore the BU database by right click on the new database name > Tasks > Restore..Database and select your backup file from its location. On the Restore Database Screen. Check the Restore box and in the Options check "Overwrite the existing database". you must also check if the location is correct.
If you have had olde database and just want to restore the new database from other server to old one, you could directly restore.

  • Cannot reinstall SAP Business One 32 Bit Client program

    Hi Everyone,
I started with a computer which had SAP Business One Clients (32 & 64 Bit versions) installed, along with the DTW (Data Transfer Workbench). I have since uninstalled both Business One clients, and am now wanting to reinstall the 32 Bit Client (only).
When I double click on the Setup.exe file I am presented with the message below -
I don't understand why I am presented with this message given that I have uninstalled the software.
In addition to uninstalling the software through the Windows (7) Control Panel, I have also manually deleted all files and folders related to Business One (using a Windows Search), with the exception of those files related to the DTW, and finally deleted all TEMP files.
If I click on Cancel the setup stops, but if I click on OK I see the following -
When I click on OK, above, I see the following -
What can I do now to fully remove all traces of the previous Client installations so that I can reinstall the 32 Bit Client?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    David

    Hi Everyone,
Firstly I now have an 'S-User ID', so I have access to SAP Resources.
Secondly, thank you Sridharan for posting the information to this thread, it is a great help (particularly given that I wasn't sure how long it would take my provider to organise an S-User ID).
Thirdly; these are the actions I have taken - none have helped!
Attempted installation in the 'hidden' Windows Administrator account
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/
THE FOLLOWING COME FROM THE OFFICIAL SAP 'FIX' (as shown above in Sridharan's post)
1). Tried both points, a), and b), in the InstallShield link -
    http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108474&sliceId=1
However I could not proceed with point 3), because by my reckoning the SAP Business One Client that I am using relies upon Installshield 17 (and there is no link available for this version!).
If I am incorrect about the above can somebody please let me know which version of Installshield was used, and I will then return to point c) of the Installshield 'Q108474' link.
2). Microsoft C++ 2005 is not installed on the computer.
3). Registry entries did not exist, and I am going to assume where removed when I performed a registry clean with Registry Mechanic (before posting this thread).
I have downloaded a trial version of Installshield Enterprise, and I am hopeful that it will contain a version 17 driver file, in which case I will return to 'Q108474'.
In the meantime however if anybody has any further suggestions can you please post?
I really don't want to reinstall Windows just because one program will not load.
    Kind Regards,
    David

    Hi Christian,
I have just recompiled and run the VbClientSample with VS2005 and it works fine.

  • Information on how much SAP Business One can handle in throughput

    Hi All
Is there any information on how much data SAP Business One can handle. I know in theory it only HDD space really set the limit but also thinking performance what setups do you have out there in terms of user, transactions per day, number of items, BP etc.
    Example:
We have a potential customer who currently have 50.000 monthly subscriptions (0 lines invoice lines pr subscription) with an expected increase of 20.000 a year
So in 3 year they will have 110.000 * 12 * 10 = 6 million invoice lines pr. year the first year (+2.4 million new lines increase to that number)
Can SAP business One handle this amount of data in a way that have any performance at all (Server is not yet known) or in other words. When does SAP Business One become too small and we need to move to a bigger system?
Is there any task-forces in SAP we can contact for such?

    Hi Rasmus,

  • Installation of SAP Business One client and required administration rights

    Dear community,
I would like to kindly ask you for your feedback on the installation of SAP Business One client and its patches on end-user computers.
The pain points I have heard so far are the following:
    - The installation of SAP Business One client and its patches has to be started by a user with administrator rights.  As far as I know (and please correct me if I am wrong), this is also required in case of installation of any other software.
    - End users usually do not have administrator rights and therefore the SAP Business One clients have to be manually upgraded by administrator.  This is time consuming (and therefore costly) activity.
We are considering to design a new solution which would overcome the above limitations.
I would like to confirm with you if my understanding is correct:
    Question 1:
Is it a common situation that the end-users of SAP Business One client do not have administrator rights and therefore cannot install the patches of SAP Business One client by themselves?
If yes, how do you resolve this currently?
    Question 2:
Do you use Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager or Active Directory (or any other 3rd party solution) to automatically distribute software packages and updates to client PCs at your customers?
    Question 3:
If the SAP Business One client installation (and its patches) is delivered as MSI package with silent installation capability, would you be able to automate the deployment of B1 client updates to client PC using the abovementioned technologies? Or can you still see some obstacles?
    Thank you
    Best regards
    Jan Ruzarovsky
    SAP Business One Product Management

    Dear all,
Thank you very much for your comments, very helpful!
@Marco - SAP Business One 8.8 client currently does not support the silent installation / upgrade. However we are currently considering this requirement and we would like to deliver it as soon as possible.
We are currently considering several possible designs. One of them is as follows:
    1. A new SAP Business One Updater Service will be installed on each client workstation.
It will be a windows service installed and running under a local system account.
    2. The updater service will check regularly if there are any new patches of SAP Business One client or add-ons uploaded to a configured shared directory.
    3. If a new patch is found in the shared directory, the updater service will SILENTLY install the new patch (add-ons, SAP Business One) on the client workstation.
The service would be able to install patches even if nobody is logged in.
    Questions:
If we consider the above design, there are a few open topics:
    1. During the upgrade of the SAP Business One server, the client patches (and SAP add-on patches, partner add-ons) would be placed to a SHARED directory instead of into SBO-Common (as it is implemented currently).
    - Does this have any impact on your tools, processes or add-ons?
    2. SAP Business One upgrade wizard will put the latest patch of SAP Business One client into a configured shared directory. The shared directory will have to be read-only for everybody in the network to avoid that the valid installation files are replaced by malware or virus infected files
    - Can you configure such a shared directory?
From customer perspective, if a new patch is put into the shared directory, the updater service can behave as follows:
    1. Manually initiated upgrade of the client
Example: Customer starts the old (not upgraded) SAP Business One client. The client will inform him/her that a new patch has been found and it has to be installed in order to continue working with the client. After customer clicks "Yes", the upgrader service starts the silent installation of the client and informs customer about the progress. Once the upgrade is finished, the upgraded SAP Business One client will be started automatically.
    2. Automatic update:
       - Update the client automatically (e.g. overnight) if customer is not working with SAP Business One
       - If SAP Business One client is running, ask customer if he/she wishes to upgrade the client now or to delay the upgrade by X minutes.
Question: Which of the above two scenarios would you and your customers prefer?
If the upgrade is fully silent, automated and handled by the upgrader service, Is it acceptable for customers to trigger the installation manually and wait till the client is upgraded? Or would they prefer to have the client updated for them e.g. overnight so they can immediately start to work?
    Best regards

    Hi Experts:
Could you please assit us?: We are running Sap Business One 2007A SP01 PL08, Our client is using Rounding Method "By Document". and the option "Automatic Rounding for document" is only available for sales documents. How can we achieve to use Automatic rounding in header total fields in Purchase Documents????. Can we achieve this by a Formatted searches?

Can we achieve this with a formatted search as well in the Amount field in this table?.

  • Addon not loading - B1 Usability Package for all users in SAP Business One

Hello, I am a new admin to SAP B1 and am about to go live in a few weeks. We are running SAP Business One v. 8.80.227.
Envirorment details: Dedicated server for SAP database, and Terminal Server for remote connections.
I have a demo group of users in Active Directory that have permission to Remote Desktop to the TS and load SAP. For now, theses users are local admins on the TS. hello Ken - Boyum IT has its own License Administration - path of Administration > Add Ons > B1 Usability Package > License Administration...
Do all of the users have a checkmark to give them access???
When a user has only the Main Menu window open, select the "Form Settings" icon and follow the same path on the Form Settings window that is diplayed and make sure they have checkmarks next to the B1 Usability Package to be "Visible".
Are all of the user set to display Boyum IT on their machines???
LOL - I am not technical so I have no idea what that other stuff means...
    Hope that helps...
