How to save default RS232 port configuration in Labview 2011

I have an application using two serial ports. I would like to give the
user possibility to select the serial ports from the list of his ports
(depending on the hardware configuration) and their settings and save
these as defaults in some ini file. Can someone give me a hint?
Is there any possibility how to limit the Resource names selector only
to COM ports? By default it offers everything, i.e. including GPIB and
LPT etc.. That may be confusing for some users, I would like to make
it easier to understand for an unexperienced user.
Thanks
ladislav

By creating my VISA resource name control with a right click on the VISA Configure Serial Port vi , it only showed me the COM ports.
Additional filtering of displayed names can be done by right click on the control and choose I/O Name Filtering.
To store/read values from an ini file you can use the Configuration file vis found in FILE I/O

  • How to recover from network port configuration deletion (airport)

a couple of years ago, i accidently deleted the network port configuration for AirPort in the Show pop-up menu. No big deal, i thought at the time. I don't have an AirPort card and I won't be using AirPort in this computer. Ok, I now have an old-style AirPort card (powerbook G3 firewire, 10.2.8) and the AirPort utility doesn't see that it's installed. I realized right away, the network doesn't have a port... so the system doesn't see it, right? So, how do I get this port back? Do I have to reload a new System entirely and not save previous network settings... or is there an easier way to recover from my blunder?

    Thanks Rob,
Glad to be here. Yeah, 10.2 works the same as 10.4. The problem with what you suggest is that I can no longer get airport as an option in Network port configs... so when I go to the new button all the other options are there EXCEPT AirPort. This is what I need to restore. I haven't checked, but I'm assuming I've nuked the pref panel out of the master library. So, I've messed up big time. I was looking for a way to recover that didn't involve reloading the whole system. This isn't like OS 9 and older where you can go and pick a little piece and stick it back into your system folder... I think. Thanks for the reply.

While the many USB adapters seem to be easier to handle, we have had some bad experiences. Their stability is not always up to the task for industrial applications. This might not be an issue when you only use them to control your RS-232 lab equipment for manual experiments, but in our case we have fully automated lab systems running, where LabVIEW controls sometimes up to 8 serial devices and those applications are supposed to run day and night, if possible for many days in a row without interruption. With many of those noname USB-RS232 adapters we noticed various kind of problems. It could range from intermittent communication errors (which could be handled by additional code in our software to retry communication on such errors) to complete failure of the RS-232 port after some time, which could only got back online by unplugging and replugging the USB adapter.
For our purpose this was completely unacceptable and we ended up using ENET-RS232 devices instead which are working fine for months in a row.

  • How to start an 8.2 app in LabVIEW 2011

This has been a problem that I've been trying to deal with for the past week to no avail.
    In short:
The 8.2s which worked on an XP machine were openned on a Windows 8 with LabVIEW 2011, made into an executable, put back on to the Windows XP to see if it will still all worked, and it does not.
    In detail:
I had a ready made, working application made in LabVIEW 8.2. The goal is to update all old software to the new LabVIEW 2011, but to still make it work. The problem is, after making it run in edit mode for at least a little bit (after debugging common errors with openning in a newer version), after making an executable and putting it on the machine it used to run on, it won't run. The program will not communicate with the machine and will give the following errors which are, my eyes, things that should not be happening after working in edit mode.
    Two error codes received:
    1)  One or more Configuration File(s) are not available. Please Check the Hardware configuration!
    2) {
Error 7 occured at Openfile+.vi: Open file
        Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: File not found. The file might have been mover or deleted, or the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system.
For example, use\ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS X, and / on Linus. Verify tht the path is correct using the command prompt or file       explorer.

There are a number of issues here.  First, LabVIEW 8.2 cannot be installed on Windows 7 (to say nothing of Windows 8), and LabVIEW 2011 cannot be installed on Windows XP.  I'm not sure whether executables can be built across Windows 7/XP boundaries, but I'm pretty sure that, at a minimum, you'd need to install the LabVIEW 2011 Run Time Engine on the Windows XP system (and I don't know if this is possible).
After next April, Windows XP "turns into a pumpkin" as Microsoft drops support for it.  A good time to migrate to Windows 7!
You can install LabVIEW 8.2 on a Windows 7 computer.  I have that right now specifically for converting old code.  And I am sure LabVIEW 2011 can go on XP as well.
I'm guessing the main issue is the lack of the 2011 Run-Time Engine on the XP machine.  But I would also advise moving away from the OpenFile+.vi since that is a really old VI and the newer LabVIEW file I/O primitives are so much better anyways.

  • How can I change network port configuration default setting?

    Hello,
I am having trouble connecting to the internet. When I try to connect, it dials, rings, and then has a long tone, then disconnects. Preferences>Network>Assist Me>Diagnostics>Location>Network Port has Built in Ethernet chosen. I unchoose it, choose Internal Modem. It goes on to try to connect, than asks me if I have DSL or Cable (I don't) I choose no, asks me if there is anything else to restart, no, I choose. It then says to check configuration. I go back till the location page then continue, continue, then it connects. It won't stay selected to Internal Modem. I have checked its box and dragged it to the top (and unchecked and dragged Ethernet to the bottom). This happens 90% of the time but not always. I can connect to the internet, but have to go through this. I don't have Built in Ethernet.
    Thanks,
    Maria

Open Network preferences. Select Internal Modem from the list and click on the Configure button. Click on the PPP tab. Fill in the required information for your dial up ISP including your username and password (for your dial up account.) Check the box to save your password. Click on the Apply button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and select DHCP from the Configure IPv4 drop down menu, click on the Apply button. Click on the Modem tab and select the modem from the drop down menu that corresponds to the one you are using or have installed internally in your computer. Click on the Apply button. Quit Network preferences. This should have you all set. Use Internet Connect to initiate the dial up.

  • How to get Networking Switch Port Configuration (I guess SNMP4j will help)

    Greetings :)
We have extreme Summit 450e switches installed in our organization. approximately 2000 desktops are connected to these switches.
Now, I want to make a utility to get info from these switches, for example, which IP, MAC etc is running on a particular switch port. I want to extract these kind of info from all switches and export it into a database.
Any help, how to start this work.
    Thanks...

    > Any help, how to start this work.
First research what programmable interfaces it supports.  That includes any management API including SNMP, TCP and HTTP.
And then from that figure out what you want to do with it.
After you do both of the above then you start looking to java to program the solution.

  • How can I configure the save page mode (to save DEFAULT WITH OR WITHOUT images and other dependencies in a folder)?

I like it that I can save webpages with or without dependencies in a separated folder. And its implementation in Firefox (e.g. it remembers how I saved something before, and that way becomes the default) can also be good sometimes. But usually it is not.
Usually I want to save pages as HTML-only. Sometimes, but only sometimes I have to save a page as a whole (I don't know the name of the feature). But after I save something with dependencies, I often forget that, and don't care about this option. Firefox, however, doesn't forget it, and saves thousands of unimportant images, until I notice it and switch it off again.
    This is not good.
I tried Google Chrome, which simply don't remember how I saves something before, and always select the complete page option for default. It is exactly the opposite of the perfect solution (in my opinion). The best would be if the browser would save everything as HTML only, if I don't change it. Or it would be even better if I could configure it manually (turn this remembering feature on/off).
This is not a beginner's problem, so it would be good if only a config option solved this. I imagine that already exists a config option for this, but I could not find it. I found only the "browser.download.save_converter_index" option, which depends on how I used it last time.
Is there a config option for this? Or should I report this in the Firefox brainstorm page?
    Thank you for your time
    D. J. S.

That choice is remembered in the Integer pref <b>browser.download.save_converter_index</b>
    0: Web Page, complete (default)
    1: Web Page, HTML only
    2: Text files
If you want to reset that choice to HTML only on every start of Firefox then you can use this line in the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/user.js_file user.js]
    <pre><nowiki>user_pref("browser.download.save_converter_index", 1);
    </nowiki></pre>

  • How to change the default servcie port number to be checked for the IPS sig

    Dear
i have an AIP-SSM (IPS) installed in a an ASA firewall.
i have configured an access-list in the firewall to forward the traffic coming from the internet toward the internal server to be checked by the IPS module.
but the case is that the services have to be checked is not the default services port numbers.
    http port is 8081
    oracle port is 2006
    and many other services.
the question now, is how to change the default service number in the IPS in order to be checked by the corresponding service signatures?
    Thanks

You would set those as part of the signature variables.

  • SQL Server 2012 - 3 SQL clustered instances - one default/ two named instances - how assign/should assign static ports for named instances

We have two physical servers hosting 3 SQL 2012 clustered instances, one default instance and two named instances.
The default instance is using port 1433 and the two named instances are using dynamic port assignment.
There is discussion about assigning static port numbers to the two named clustered SQL instances.
What is considered best-practice?  For clustered named instances to have dynamic or static ports?
Are there any pitfalls to assigning a static port to a named instance that is a cluster?
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Hi RobinMCBC,
In SQL server the default instance has a listener which listens on the fixed port which is TCP port 1433. And for the named instance the port on which the SQL server listens is random and is dynamically selected when the named instance of the SQL server
    starts.
For Standalone instance of the SQL server we can change the dynamic port of the named instance to the static port by using SQL server configuration manager as other post, however, in case of the cluster, when we change the port no. of the named instance
to the static port using the method described above, the port no. again changes back to the dynamic port after you restart the services. I recommend you changing the Dynamic port of the SQL Server to static port
on all the nodes , disabling and enabling the checkpointing to the quorum.
For more information, you can review the following article about how to change the dynamic port of the SQL Server named instance to an static port in a SQL Server 2005 cluster.
