How to see ASP/VBScript variable names inline

When you use an ASP output in a form control (like <%=Submit_Button_Label%>), you can easily see on the page what you've done. This doesn't work for ASP outputs in the rest of the page--all you see are "ASP" graphics all over the place.
I'm in the process of externalizing all of the text on our ASP pages to variables for translation, and my choices seem to be having a completely unreadable page (where there are just a bunch of ASP labels and not much else) or using a structure like
<% If False Then 'so we can find it easily on the page, leave the original text
    %>
                    I accept and agree to abide by the Terms of Use
                    and Privacy Policy.
    <% Else %><%= TOS_Prompt %><% End If %>
so I can at least find things.
Is there a third option?
Thanks in advance!

  • How do I create a variable name on the fly?

    Hi,
    If I have a String containing a value, how do I create a variable name using that value during program execution? That is if I have
    String fred = "newvar";
    How do I then create a new String with the name "newvar" (using the contents of fred)? I will never know what the content of fred is until this point. What I'd like to be able to do is something like
    String fred.subString(0) = "a new value";
    Obviously this won't work but if it did the statement would evaluate to something like
    String newvar = "a new value";
    Appreciate any help you can give,
    Dave.

    Here u go:
       private JCheckBox AddCheckBox( String strText, int nTextID )
          JCheckBox checkbox = null;
          Class checkboxDefinition;
          Class[] stringArgsClass = new Class[] {String.class};
          Constructor stringArgsConstructor;
          Object[] stringArgs = null;
          String arg = "";
          arg = "CheckBox" + nTextID;
          String label = new String(arg);
          stringArgs = new Object[] {label};
          try
            checkboxDefinition = Class.forName("javax.swing.JCheckBox");
            stringArgsConstructor = checkboxDefinition.getConstructor(stringArgsClass);
            checkbox = (JCheckBox) createObject(stringArgsConstructor, stringArgs);
            checkbox.setName(label);
            checkbox.setText(strText);
            checkbox.setSize(new java.awt.Dimension(CQuestionBase.PAGEWIDTH, 21));
            checkbox.putClientProperty("1",new Integer(nTextID));
            checkbox.setVisible(true);
          catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
            System.out.println(e);
          catch (NoSuchMethodException e)
            System.out.println(e);
          return checkbox;
       }This code was based on an example I found about two years ago. You can use the same methodolgy to create objects of any kind. Again, look at java.lang.Reflect.

  • How to see the whole file names in finder column view?

    Hi guys,
    I like to use finder in column view. However, most of the times, the file names get trunked and I have to redim the column to see the whole names. Other day, without wanting to, I must have pressed some key combination, and the column got redim automatically, so I could read the whole file names. So, my question is if does anybody know how to achieve this?

    I don't know what "redim" means, but if you double-click the column separator, it becomes wide enough for the longest name. If you Option-double-click it, all columns become wide enough for the longest name in each column.

  • How to have a dynamic variable name?

    I have a form that determines how many phone numbers a client has to edit by running a query against the database. The client can have anywhere from 0-3 phone numbers. I am assuming I can just wrap a CFOUTPUT QUERY tag around my input field so that it will loop if there are more than 1. What I can't figure out is how to dynamically name the input field within the CFOUTPUT tag for the UPDATE query I run after the user submits the form.
    For example, if the query find that the user has 2 phone numbers in the table, how do I control their name?
    <cfinput name="?" ..........>
    <cfinput name="?2".........>
    How can this be done dynamically within the cfoutput that is returning results of the query?

    I presume you have an index number for each entry in your database. I would use that number, since you are assured it is unique.

  • Variable names "{name}" showing up before dataset loads

    I am using an XML dataset. I have it working perfectly except
    for the fact that on the page in question, right before the data
    loads, you see the actual variable names writeen out on the page.
    Also as part of my data, i am displaying an image, so until the
    data loads there is a broken image and then it loads. Is there a
    way to handle this so the variables dont show until the data
    loads?

  • Pass a variable name to a subroutine and use a method on it...

    How do I pass a variable name to a subroutine and then call a method on it?
    I have several swing text fields in a JForm. When someone enters a string in any of these fields, I want to check whether it is a number and, if now, clear that individual field and display a popup warning.
    So, I want to do something like....
    String stringcheck(String str, sometype variablename) {
            try {
                Integer.parseInt(str);
            } catch (NumberFormatException e) {
                JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(jPanel2, "These fields must be integer numbers.");
                variablename.setText("");
    }

    Well, good to hear you found a solution to it.You know, you really should have seen that from post 1.
    No offense, but seriously - does he have to draw you a picture?!
    I probably wouldn't understand the picture either: I'm not much of an art critic. Unless the OP is [Bob Ross|http://www.bobross.com/], his paintings, I understand.

  • What's user variable name using Smart View POV function (ex:HypGetActiveMember)?

    Hi,
    We want to use Smart View POV function (ex:HypGetActiveMember) to get the active member of user variables from HFM forms selected into Excel, but we don't know the user variable name in the following paragraph of Smart View developer guide:
    "To uniquely identify the user variable, provide the user variable name rather than the dimension name."
    For example, what's the user variable name of Year dimension? How to get the user variable name?
    Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi,
    I guess user variable name is set by users/developers. I am not very clear on your question. If you have defined some variables to select any members from a dimension then it will be in HFM only. In planning we have two kinds of variables User Variables (we set it from Planning Preferences) and Substitution variable (we set it from Essbase Consol in the backend). Without looking into your application it is difficult to say the user variable name. Like for Year the user variables can be "PreviousYear", "CurrentYear", or "NextYear" etc.

  • How to check Variable Names

    Hi All,
    I am checking in CMOD include.  It has lot of code. Example:  When 'ZFISPER' . I think that is Variable Technical name. How to check that variable and in Which Query it is.
    Please let me know...
    Thanks in advance..

    Hello,
    You can go over into transaction code RSA1 and then on your left hand side you will be able to see lot of tabs in terms of Modeling, Administration, Transport Connection and so on.
    So go ahead and click on the tab "Transport Connection" and in the next screen you will be able to see all object types available in your environment.
    Please go ahead and open up the section "Query Elements", if you are not able to see the same, on the left under the transport connection you will see the folder "SAP Transport" and within that the option called "Object Types", just click on it once and all the object types which are available for transports will show up.
    Once you have selected Query Elements, under that you will be able to see different Query related objects and you will be having "Variable". When you drilldown on Variable folder you can double click "Select Objects" and select your appropriate variable name.
    One other way to proactively get a list of variables available in your system and to find out on which InfoObject they have been buill, please go into transaction se16 or se12 and then enter the table name RSZGLOBV.
    In this table you can get a list of all the variables along with the metadata without trying to parse through one by one variable.
    Thanks
    Dharma.

    Can you tell me the Operating System and Captivate version you are using?
    Also can you confirm if you are getting this issue will this one project or all the projects? Try to copy paste this project on a new blank project and then try to publish.

  • Need to update a record on page load. How? (ASP/VBScript)

    The standard Update Record behavior requires a form on the page, plus a recordset to identify the value to be updated. In my scenario, the value for the record to be updated is already in the URL as the ID. I just don't know how to write it myself and Dreamweaver won't do this.
    The page I want to do this on is a record detail page, so there is already a record ID already present in the querystring. The record is new until a user views it, and what I need is something that just writes a simple value to one field in the table for the record being viewed. This is it in a nutshell:
    Using the value from the ID in the URL querystring, update the "viewed" field in a specific table with the value of "y".
    This would be the first operation as the page loads and then the page would load and show the data that it already does.
    I'd be happy with raw code is someone is generous enough to provide that, or perhaps some instructional help on reverse engineering the standard update record code generated by Dreamweaver. Or, if you know of any extensions designed to do this - I'd be interested in that too!
    My app I'm working on is in ASP/vbscript.
    Subject line edited by moderator to indicate server model

    Good point! I wasn't thinking about how that would make the app vulnerable to sql injection.
    The function I want to perform is similar to how an email changes from unread to read when you view it. I simple want the records being viewed to take on the status of being read or "viewed". Perhaps I'm going about this in the wrong way, but I've been planning to use a database field as the indicator of whether a record has a viewed status or not. Null value is new, and a value of "y" (yes) meaning the value is viewed/read.
    If you have a better recommendation, I'm all ears.

  • How to print a request variable in the name of a section?

    Hello all,
    I have a session variable created in the RPD called VarWorstStore
    and I have a prompt which sets a request variable with the same name.
    Now when I put a report which is filtered on this variable then I can see that the variable is changing when I press go in the dashboard prompt.
    However, I call this variable in a section as well (go to page options - edit dashboard and click on rename of a section)
    Now I type: @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.VarWorstStore']} and check the box Display section heading.
    Now when I save the dashboard I can see the value of the session variable. However, when I change the session variable with the prompt, thenb I can see that the report is changing, but the title isn't.
    Can anyone help me on this? My reference on this was: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_f689sAiiG-E/SKv8Fxu7wNI/AAAAAAAAAPk/pppwQ1DdEhg/s1600-h/obi-ee-variables-overview.jpg
    I think it is a bug, but perhaps someone knows
    OBIEE version:
    Build: 10.1.3.4.1.090414.1900
    Release Version: Oracle Business Intelligence 10.1.3.4.1
    Package: 090414.1900

    Thanks for all your responds!!
    However, I was thinking in first instance on a narrative view myself indeed, however this is not good enough for me, because I really have an almost pixel perfect dashboard.
    But the thing with the prompt works!!! What I have done is making an extra prompt with the default value set to the session variable and then I set a presentation variable in the same prompt, and after that I am filtering the reports on the presentation variable in stead of the session variable.
    But I cannot find anywhere where to hide the prompt, can you tell me this?
    The only way I can hide things is to set permissions I gues, but then I also guess is that the prompt will do not do its tasks when the user has no permissions to this prompt.
    Hope you can help me out on this last part!!
