How to set italic to a text frame with a JS script

Hello guys,
I'm a java developper, and for my customer I have to generate some JS scripts for Illustrator CS3/Windows XP.
In my use case, I need to layout several textframes. Some need to be "bolded", some others have to be underlined, and some need to be italic.
I found how to set the bold and underline attributes, but for the italic, I can't see any option related to it. I saw the "CharacterAttributes#italics" property, but the description is a bit odd: "If true, the Japanese OpenType
font supports italics."... it doesn't fit my needs...
Is it possible to make a text italic with a JS script in Illustrator?

You will have to use the proper italic form of the font. AI does not support Faux italic or bold.

  • How can I simply create a text frame with perfect rounded ends?

    I'm recreating a new edition of a book that was originally created in Quark. It uses round-ended text frames. When using the simplest method of corner options, the ends aren't proper semicircles, even though the radius is set to half the height of the frame.
    The other problem is that I can't reduce the width sufficiently to make it look balanced. I use the direct selection tool to close in the right-hand end, so that I don't distort the shape. There's no right indent for the paragraph, but as I reduce the width the text breaks into two lines, even though I've greater space after the text than the left indent. My best solution was to create the shape in Illustrator and copy and paste into InDesign, assign text content, centre thte text vertically, use 3mm left indent. I still couldn't pull the right-hand end in tight enough. So I had to resort to making a group of the lozenge shape with a normal rectangular text frame on top.
    Does anyone know why these problems occur, and can Adobe improve the corner option?

    One last refinement: It's convenient if the script allows you to Undo/Redo its actions -- let me add that for completeness' sake. The following is the complete script again, no further editing required.
    //DESCRIPTION:Overlay round corners on a single textframe
    // A Jongware Script 2-Apr-2012
    app.doScript(function(textframe){
    if (textframe instanceof Group && textframe.pageItems.length == 2)
    roundedRect = app.selection[0].polygons[0];
    textframe = app.selection[0].textFrames[0];
    textframe.properties = {strokeWeight:roundedRect.strokeWeight,strokeTint:roundedRect.strokeTint,strokeColor:roundedRect.strokeColor};
    roundedRect.remove();
    app.selection[0].ungroup();
    left = textframe.geometricBounds[1];
    right = textframe.geometricBounds[3];
    height = textframe.geometricBounds[2] - textframe.geometricBounds[0];
    center = (textframe.geometricBounds[2] + textframe.geometricBounds[0])/2;
    radius = height/2;
    leftRounded = textframe.parent.ovals.add({geometricBounds:[center-radius,left-radius,center+radius,left+radius]});
    riteRounded = textframe.parent.ovals.add({geometricBounds:[center-radius,right-radius,center+radius,right+radius]});
    rectBetween = textframe.parent.rectangles.add({geometricBounds:[center-radius,left,center+radius,right]});
    roundedRect = rectBetween.addPath([leftRounded,riteRounded]);
    roundedRect.properties = {strokeWeight:textframe.strokeWeight,strokeTint:textframe.strokeTint,strokeColor:textframe.strokeColor};
    textframe.properties = {strokeWeight:0};
    app.select(textframe.parent.groups.add([roundedRect,textframe]));
    }, ScriptLanguage.JAVASCRIPT, app.selection[0], UndoModes.ENTIRE_SCRIPT, "Overlay Round Corners");

  • How to determine column inches in a text frame with intersecting frames?

    I am trying to write a script to determine how much text would fit in a text frame before actually having the text. If the frame has no run-around areas intruding on the frame it is the simple depth of the frame. Is there an easy way to determine the area of the frame with the obstructed areas subtracted?

    Maybe you could fill text frame with placeholder text:
    myTextFrame.contents = TextFrameContents.placeholderText;
    Hope that helps.

  • CS3 VB how to get reference to a text frame?

    Hi there,
    I got a text frame in a document with a table inside. In first cell of the table there is another text frame with table. How to get a reference to the first text frame from the frame inside of the cell?
    text frame in a cell has a character as parent, character has a cell as parent, cell has table as a parent - in this place there should be the right text frame as a parent of a table, but unfortunatly there is a story! so any idea how to get the text frame from there?
    regards

    thx again Harbs,
    believe me - I am watching all stuff at the watch window of VB6 - there is not even one insertion point which has a ParentTextFrames - if I try to adres it I get an error. VisualBasic do not allow syntax like InsertionPoints[1] - it allows something like this:
    InsertionPoints(1) but it is the same like InsertionPoints.Item(1). In both cases it doesn't works - all object has ParentTextFrames.Count = 0.
    Anyway I found a solution for my problem:
    innerFrame.Parent.ParentStory.TextContainers.Item(1) is the right text frame - don't ask me why....

  • How to get the UIDRef of Text frame associated with hyperlink?

    Hi,
    I have a document which contains Text hyperlinks . I am able to get the number of hyperlinks present in document using "IHyperlinkTable" and text range to which hyperlink is associated using interface "IHyperlink".
    InterfacePtr<IHyperlink> hyperlink(tableDb, table->GetNthHyperlink(i), IID_IHYPERLINK);
    if(hyperlink)
           hyperlink->GetName(&sHyperlinkName); //sHyperlinkName is text to which hyperlink is associated
    now I need to find the UIDRef of Text frame with which hyperlink is associated.
    I can get the UIDRef of "Image frame" using interface "IHyperlinkPageItemSourceData".
    InterfacePtr<IHyperlinkPageItemSourceData> sourceHyperLink (tableDb, hyperlink->GetSourceUID(), UseDefaultIID());
    if (sourceHyperLink)
            UID sourceHyperLinkUID  = sourceHyperLink->GetSourceUID();
    but this interface may be not helpful in case of text in the frame (word/words) associated with hyperlink.
    If anyone has done this please do let me know.
    Thank you all in advance.

  • Two separate text frames with own toc

    How do I set up two separate text frames side-by-side as two columns, and create a separate table of contents for each?
    I need to create a two-language document with English on the left and a translated language on the right. Each language will also have separate illustrations and cross references to them in the text. Basically, I need to create two manuals in a single document.
    I'm doing this with Frame 7.1 if that makes any difference.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    To create the two separate text frames, simply use the Text Frame graphic tool on the Master Pages to draw tthe second frame. You will need to give the "Flow"  for this text frame a unique name. By default FM uses "A" for a flow name, but you can change this to be the name of the language.
    See: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/WSd817046a44e105e21e63e3d11ab7f74e4d-7fb8.htm l (Set up a multi-flow document)
    However, I would recommend that you first create separate documents for the English and translated versions. Then import the contents of those documents by reference (i.e. create text insets) in your combined document.
    Use the combined document as your publishing vessel and the separate documents as your editing/working environment.
    The only gotcha would be if you need to maintain side-by-side fidelity with each paragraph in the English and translated version. If so, then you should import by copy and then you'll hjave to manually adjust the paragraph spacings to stay lined up.

  • How to set up an clasic TS-desktop with Windows 2012 (R2)?

    Hi,
    How to set up an clasic TS-desktop with Windows 2012 (R2)?
    Witch Roles and Features do I need, RD Session Host, RD Connection Broker, RD Licensing?
    /SaiTech

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Based on your description provided, I can understand that you want to setup RDS server 2012 R2 and want information how to achieve that. If misunderstood then please correct.
    If yes, then there is different option related to setup. There are 2 option for configuring.
    1. Role based or Feature based installation
    2. Remote Desktop services installation
    For normal RDS environment, you can use 2nd option and then perform Quick start Deployment where 3 roles can be installed RD Connection Broker, RD Session Host and RD Web access. After this you can also publish RemoteApp and can use.
    You can refer following article for more information.
    a) Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Quick Start Deployment for RemoteApp, Windows
    Server 2012 Style

    Urvergessen wrote:
    +You may have already done this, but do you have the first AirPort Express configured to "Allow this network to be extended"?+
    Could not find that setting anywhere.
    It's in AirPort Utility, AirPort panel, Wireless tab.
    When I'm within the range of the base station I connect normally, but further away the connection drops despite the fact that the other Airport is very close and light is green. Interestingly, my PB Pro has signal almost everywhere in the house, but my iPhone and Mac Mini don't. Most likely just a hardware difference?
    In AirPort Utility with the second Express, in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow wireless clients"?
    The second AP does show an IP address: 10.0.1.3.
    With a "Configure IPv4" setting of "Using DHCP", that suggests that the second Express really is connecting to the first Express. In that case I have no other explanation of your your problem.

  • How to set color space to JPEG image with Java advance Imaging

    How to set color space to JPEG image with Java advance Imaging.
    is there any API in JAI which support to set color space.

    I'm definately no guru, but this is how you can change it.
    CTRL + ALT + Click on the part of the component that you want to change. This brings up the Hidden Dom Inspector, background of component will be surrounded with a red outline (Make sure the red outline is surrounding the part of the tabset you want to change), Now you go to properties sheet and click the ellipses next to rules property this will pop up a dialog you look in this list (At the top) to see the default style classes that are affecting the rendering of the component outlined in red. (You will be able to select different sections of a single component) then you just rewrite the style class that you want to change in your Stylesheet (You will not find the styleclass that you want to change because it is a part of your theme .jar but as long as you name it exactly the same and place in your stylesheet it will override the theme .jar style classes) it's actually very easy -- you were right should be a piece of cake for a guru. Don't have the link handy but you can check out Winston's Blog on changing Table Formatting to get this information...It is EXTREMELY useful if you want your apps to have a custom look and not default that comes with Creator Themes.
    Hope this helps you out God knows others have helped me alot!

  • How to find associated text frame with XML element?

    Hello experts, I am new to InDesign CS SDK and have a question.
    I am building an Extension to import an XML document into an InDesign template. As the content in XML can be unpredictable, in the Extension, I want to loop through all the XML elements and make sure it has associated text frames, and if it doesn't, I want to create a text frame and set the content to the text frame.
    I think I figured out how to create a new text frame in page and set the content in the frame, but I am having difficulty finding an associated text frame for an XML element.
    If anyone has a sample code finding a text frame for an XML element, I appriciate it. Or if anyone can tell me what document I need to look, it will be great too.
    Thanks,

    Here's a code snipet with null checks removed:
    UID MyClassName::GetFrameForXMLElement(IIDXMLElement* inXMLElement)
        InterfacePtr< ITextModel > textModel( Utils< IXMLUtils >()->QueryTextModel( inXMLElement ) );
        InterfacePtr< IFrameList > frameList( textModel->QueryFrameList() );
        UID aFrameUID = frameList->GetNthFrameUID( 0 );
        return aFrameUID;

  • Set top and bottom inset spacing values in Text Frame Options via jsx script

    I am looking for a way to set the top and bottom inset spacing values only to 2 points in Text Frame Options via a .jsx scrpt.
    For years, I have used a script that sets Preferences, such as:
    with(app.storyPreferences){
        opticalMarginAlignment = false;
        opticalMarginSize = 12;                // pts
    I would like to add the code to this same script that would make Top = 0p2 and Bottom 0p2 but leave Left and Right as 0p0.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • File adapter-How to set line break in text file-split record into two lines

    Dear Guru's,
    I have to solve following problem with XML (with mulitiple records) to TEXT file scenario using file adapter. I have to output for ever ONE data record in XML always two identical lines in text file. Second line should have a little bit different mapping in few fields like date,... So I did duplicate fileds in my output structure in mapping and need to know how to set line break in the middle and see half of structure in first line and next structure half in second line
    My output structure in mapping is:
    CASHFLOW
    - INTERFACE
    - GESELLSCHAFT
    - ANWENDUNG
    - PRODUKT
    - VERTRAG
    - BETRAG
    - WAEHRUNG
    - DIRECTION
    - BEWEGUNGSTYP
    - FAELLIGKEIT
    - ZINSFESTSTELLUNG
    - ZAHLUNGSTAG
    - RENDITE
    - INTERFACE2
    - GESELLSCHAFT2
    - ANWENDUNG2
    - PRODUKT2
    - VERTRAG2
    - BETRAG2
    - WAEHRUNG2
    - DIRECTION2
    - BEWEGUNGSTYP2
    - FAELLIGKEIT2
    - ZINSFESTSTELLUNG2
    - ZAHLUNGSTAG2
    - RENDITE2
    Question is how can I set on receiving file adapter in Content Conversion Parameters that fields from first structure half INTERFACE...RENDITE should be outputed in one line and fields from second half of structure INTERFACE2...RENDITE2 should start on second line in final text file.
    I'm getting at the moment one line only and I need to know how can set line break so that second line starting with INTERFACE2(CA)...RENDITE2 will start in new line.
    CA,"0100","7","512",20090127010001,-12454762586.6800,"EUR",2,12,2009-01-28,2009-01-27,2009-01-28,"0.0000000",CA,"0100","7","512",20090127010001,-12454762586.6800,"EUR",1,10,2009-01-27,2009-01-27,2009-01-27,"0.0000000"
    This should be final output:
    CA,"0100","7","512",20090127010001,-12454762586.6800,"EUR",2,12,2009-01-28,2009-01-27,2009-01-28,"0.0000000"
    CA,"0100","7","512",20090127010001,-12454762586.6800,"EUR",1,10,2009-01-27,2009-01-27,2009-01-27,"0.0000000"
    My file adapter settings:
    RecordsetStructure=CASHFLOW
    CASHFLOW.fieldNames=INTERFACE,GESELLSCHAFT,ANWENDUNG,PRODUKT,VERTRAG,BETRAG,WAEHRUNG,DIRECTION,BEWEGUNGSTYP,FAELLIGKEIT,ZINSFESTSTELLUNG,ZAHLUNGSTAG,RENDITE
    CASHFLOW.fieldSeparator=,
    CASHFLOW.endSeparator='nl'
    CASHFLOW.fieldNames=INTERFACE2,GESELLSCHAFT2,ANWENDUNG2,PRODUKT2,VERTRAG2,BETRAG2,WAEHRUNG2,DIRECTION2,BEWEGUNGSTYP2,FAELLIGKEIT2,ZINSFESTSTELLUNG2,ZAHLUNGSTAG2,RENDITE2
    CASHFLOW.fieldSeparator=,
    It wont help if I add two identical structures in mapping because in output i would see for multiple entries section with first lines only and after that section with second lines only. And CASHFLOW is one part of more complex mapping ...
    (This is final output structure RecordsetStructure=HEADER,CASHFLOW,CONDITION,REFERENCE,CONTRACT - more sections with different data and all these should have duplicate lines at the end)
    Thanks a lot for any help
    Cheers

    Hi Ivan,
    right, I did test just for sure.
    Putting constant 'nl' into field CASHFLOW-INTERFACE1 didnt help - still getting one line instead two lines.
    CA ,"0100" ,"7" ,"512" ,20090127GTP101 ,-12454762586.6800 ,"EUR" ,2 ,12 ,2009-01-28 ,2009-01-27 ,2009-01-28 ,"0.0000000" ,'nl' ,"GTP1" ,"7" ,"512" ,20090127GTP101 ,-12454762586.6800 ,"EUR" ,1 ,10 ,2009-01-27 ,2009-01-27 ,2009-01-27 ,"0.0000000"
    So there is still question. Is there any way (mapping,...) how to output always 2 lines in text file for one record in XML. It always does 1 record in mapping structure = 1 line but we need 2 lines ...
    Example:
    Input: 4 records in XML
    Output: 8 lines in final text file ...
    Thanks to you all guys

  • InDesign CS3: How do i add a new text frame to an existing threaded story?

    I have a table that is much too large to be in an existing story (my document is currently formatted in 2 columns, but the table that I need to insert needs to span across an entire page) so I had to create a separate text frame for it. What I need to do is break the text thread and reroute the story so that the table is included. Is there a way to do this?

    With the selection tool click the outport of the frame you want before the table, then the inport of the frame that should have the table, then the outport of that frame and the inport of the one that should follow.
    You'll need to put the table into a separate paragraph, and that paragraph should be set to start in a new frame, as should the one that follows (you can also accomplish the frame transitions by inserting frame breaks).
