How to set OPTS when running a jar

java -Xms60M -Xmx60M -XX:OnError -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=/home/userX/outofmemory.log -jar RunThis.jar
i get Unrecognized VM option 'OnError'
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
when running the above statement. i'm using jre6

OnError requires that you actually specify for it to do something when an error occurs.
XX:OnError="<cmd args>;<cmd args>"

  • "Could not find the main class" when running a jar

    Hi, I'm trying to create and run a jar from my application, but I can't figure out how to properly set an entry-point. Looking at the Java Tutorials http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/deployment/jar/index.html I still can't get it to work.
    I have a directory myApp, which contains a directory images and some class files, including mainClass.class. I also have a manifest Manifest.txt in the directory myApp with the following line:
    Main-Class: mainClass.class
    + one empty line
    I create a jar successfully, while inside the myApp directory, with the following command:
    jar cfm myApp.jar Manifest.txt *.class images\*.*
    I then proceed to run the jar with the following command:
    java -jar myApp.jar
    and receive the following error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: myApp/class
    My completely uneducated guess is that there is something wrong with my manifest. The tutorial says that the line should be:
    Main-Class: MyPackage.MyClass
    I'm assuming that I get the error because I didn't specify a package, which I didn't do because I didn't know what to put there. Do I even have a package?
    Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong? thanks.

    One problem is you are specifying a file name instead of a class name. It probably should beMain-Class: mainClassA good test is to run your app before jaring it - if you run it with "java mainClass" then the Main-Class attribute must be mainClass.
    Also class naming conventions say that class names should start with a capital letter - MainClass for example. It is just a convention, but it is easier to get help when you follow conventions.

  • Class not being created when running from jar

    Hi all,
    Tech info first:
    IDE: Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8
    Plaform: windows xp
    I have created a Swing app, that connects to a com port(using the RXTXcomm). now, when I run the app in the IDE, everything is fine and dandy, but, when I run the jar file, the application loads, but the class in the app which deals with the com port is not created. here is the code:
        private static void createAndShowGUI() {
            //Make sure we have nice window decorations.
            JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
            Main receiver = new Main();
            receiver.getPropertiesFromFile();
            //Create and set up the window.
            frame = new JFrame("RFILOG RFID Empfnger");
            frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            frame.setContentPane(receiver.mainPanel);
            frame.setJMenuBar(receiver.createMenuBar());
            frame.addWindowListener(receiver);
            frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
            //Display the window.
            frame.pack();
            frame.setVisible(true);
            portListener = new RFIDReaderComm(receiver, "COM3");
            portListener.getConfiguration();
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            //Schedule a job for the event-dispatching thread:
            //creating and showing this application's GUI.
            javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                public void run() {
                    createAndShowGUI();
    portListener in the createAndShowGUI() function is an interface level parameter and is the class that is not being created. There is no error message.
    If I move the two lines that deal with the port listener before the frame.pack() line, then the GUI is not even loaded, and when I view the processes in the task manager, the process starts and then quits without anything becoming visible. So from this I guess there is a problem with creating the class when running from a jar, but without any error messages, I have not a clue where to start...can anyone help?
    thanks in advance.

    Well, some more info, so maybe someone can come up with some tips for me...this is really important, and any help is greatly appreciated.
    This is obviously a classpath problem. After running the my jar file with java -jar I finally got the error NoClassDefFoundError
    Kind of obvious I suppose. But, I cannot seem to get the two jar files I need into the classpath. I have tried the following:
    Updating my computers CLASSPATH with the relevant paths - not working
    Trying to get the Sun Java Studio Enterprise to build the required jar files into the final package - cannot get this to work
    Tried updating the manifest.mf in the following way:
    Created a text file Manifest.txt with the lines:
    Class-Path: RXTXcomm.jar
    Class-Path: BrowserLauncher2-10rc4.jar
    ran the command (in the same directory as Manifest.txt):
    jar cfm RUFILOGScanner.jar Manifest.txt classes/*.class
    but this does not work either. When I run: jar tf RUFILOGScanner.jar all I get is:
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    classes/
    classes/CRCCalculator.class
    classes/Main$1.class
    classes/Main.class
    classes/RFIDReaderComm.class
    classes/URLDialog$1.class
    classes/URLDialog$2.class
    classes/URLDialog.class
    the classes I want added are not there. Plus, (I think this is because I am running SE8) the manifest.mf is not in a folder called META-INF. In fact, I have no folder called META-INF. Is this significant?
    Please, can anyone help me?

  • Installing JRE when running a jar on a machine without  the JRE

    Please I want to know how to add the JRE to my jar package so that in case the computer to run the application on has no JRE installed. The jar should prompt for an install which is included in the jar. And also not install when JRE is already running on the machine.

    You can visit http://www.zerog.com/downloads_01.shtml. Unfortunatly they are trial versions of the software and licensed versions will cost money. When distributing applications it is easiest and cheapest to include a user guide, or at least a read-me, that states the user must have JRE to run your application and include where JRE can be acquired. The easiest method of packaging a Java application without using programs such as InstallAnywhere, is to include the application in a zip 'ready-to-run'. For similar programs take a look at Eclipse (www.eclipse.org).

  • Jdbc connection blocks when run from jar

    The following code establishes a connection EXCEPT when run from within a jar file:
    String jdbcDriverName = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
    String dbConnectionURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.2.7:1521:PRISM";
    String userName = "mdo";
    String password = "mdpass";
    // Load the JDBC driver and create a connection to the database
    Class.forName( jdbcDriverName );
    OracleDataSource dataSource = new OracleDataSource();
    dataSource.setURL( dbConnectionURL );
    dataSource.setUser( userName );
    dataSource.setPassword( password );
    connection = dataSource.getConnection();
    When run from a jar file, the application does not execute beyond the line:
    connection = dataSource.getConnection();
    No exceptions are thrown, it just appears that getConnection never returns.
    Do I need to do anything different to execute this code from within a jar file?
    Thanks in advance,
    Phil
    <><

    When building the JAR file, I inadvertently included files from two Oracle JDBC driver versions (1.2 and 1.4). I was building a single jar file with all files in it.
    I am guessing same named files existed in both driver JARs and caused "confussion" when combined into the single JAR.
    Still, I would have expected an exception to be thrown or a null connection to be returned instead if the thread just blocking.
    Thanks for all replies,

  • How to solve error when run Depreciation (T-Code:AFAB)

    Dear All Experts,
    Hi,
    I found error when run Depreciation for period 9 FYI. I had run Planed posting period Depreciation (TCode: AFAB).  with fiscal year: 2010, posting period: 9, reason for posting run: Planed posting run. Select on Test Run. Then i found error message as below.
    Documents manually posted within dep.doc.number range
         Message no. AA728
    Diagnosis
         In the number range interval for the document type for posting
         depreciation, a document  has been posted which was not created within
         the framework of depreciation posting. The last document posted by
         depreciation posting was assigned the number .
    Procedure
         Contact your Systems Specialist. When changing the number range interval
         for the document type in depreciation posting, you have to specify a new
         interval in which no documents exist. Using organizational measures, you
         can guarantee that there are no documents apart from those created by
         depreciation posting in this number range.
    Would you help me how to solve this error?
    Thank you in advance
    Best Regards
    Utarat.P

    Hi Utarat,
    first question is: have you really manually posted a Documents within dep.doc.number range
    If you post with RABUCH00, note 193984 could be relevant for you.
    Check if the intervall in Table TABA don't fits with the Intervall in BKPF.
    Example:
    TABA
    MANDT BUKRS  AFBLGJ AFBLPE AFBANZ BLNRF      BLNRT      XBUKZ
    100   XXXX   2010   004    01     4200000013 4200000016 X
    100   XXXX   2010   005    01     4200000017 4200000020 X
    100   XXXX   2010   006    01     4200000021 4200000024
    On the other Hand In Table BKPF (or Tr. FB03) you can see that 4200000037 already
    exits.
    BUKRS  BELNR      GJAHR BLART BUDAT      CPUDT      CPUTM    TCODE

  • How to set the classpath for external .jar files after importing?

    Hi techs,
    How to set the classpath in WSAD5.1.2 after importing the .jar file to the WEB-INF/lib folder.
    urgent

    I got it.
    after importing the jar file to the perspective,we need to right click on project name, go to proprties,
    goto java build path,
    there we need to include the external jar files.

    I already add this jar files in the classpath of environment variables..Then also i am getting the same error..
    Kindly help me...........

    Well, let´s supose your manifest is defined as I did in my previous post. So, your directory base should be something like:
    C:\dir
    docbaseconnection.jar
    dctm.jar
    dfc.jar
    anotherlibraries.jar
    But, let´s supose you want something like
    C:\dir
    docbaseconnection.jar
    lib (folder, which contains dctm.jar, dfc.jar, etc)
    Then you should change the class-path of your manifest to
    Class-Path: ./lib/dctm.jar ./lib/dfc.jar
    That´s what I meant

  • Program doesn't show icon when run from JAR

    Hello,
    I have a working program with menu and toolbar buttons with icons. When I compile and run the JAR it runs fine with all icons showing up. The icons are located in a folder named icons. They are referenced inside the Java code by "icons/iconName.png". However, after I make a JAR file of the program, it runs normally, but the icons do not show up.
    I use the command line command :
    jar cvfm Program.jar manifest.txt *.class"
    Then I open the JAR with WinRar and place the icons folder in the archive.
    My manifest.txt looks like this:
    {code}Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Class-Path: .
    Main-Class: MyMainClass
    SplashScreen-Image: splash.png{code}
    Any ideas what I did wrong?
    Thanks.

    I was having similar problems. If you use an IDE, such as NetBeans BE SURE to copy that image/ folder into the build/classes in the right place in the hierarchy. In any event, not having resource files such as textfiles and images over in the classes will prevent the IDE from executing a java run. That is obvious and easy to remedy.
    And then the discovery: what works in .class files won't work in .jar. I found this link and tried the following code in a synchronized thread (you want the images loaded before going further with any inits such as frame.setLocation(), or panel.setSize(), etc.):
    ClassLoader cldr = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
    URL imageURL   = cldr.getResource("images/usa_small.png");
    icons[x] = new ImageIcons(imageURL);Where I found it:
    [Class Loaders|http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/org-openide-modules/org/openide/modules/doc-files/classpath.html]
    That will help you on the implementation of proper technique. Not sure about adding files to .jar "after the fact".

  • How to set JPA when related entity do not want to CASCADE

    Here is the case: weblogic 11g, EcliplseLink
    in orm.xml, there is one snippet about the relationship(many to many) for two entities.
    <many-to-many name="supportedHostTypes"
                        target-entity="com.gogog.server.lamp.model.impl.collection.HostTypeEntity"
                        fetch="EAGER">
                        <join-table name="HOST_COMPATIBILITY">
                             <join-column name="Model_ID" />
                             <inverse-join-column name="HOST_TYPE_ID" />
                        </join-table>
    </many-to-many>
    Because i do not set the cascade attributes, when i run Junit test, there is an error: During synchronization a new object was found through a relationship that was not marked cascade PERSIST:[email protected]b.
    Actually, for target table HostType, i have the pre-loaded test data for this table. It does not need to insert it any more. If i set cascade.all attributes, of course, there will be integrity error happens.
    This snippet can work in glassfish with toplink, and now i need to migrate to weblogic, and the error above happens.
    Could any one has some idea how to config it for this case, thanks.

    Hello,
    This error will occur if the existence check for the HostTypeEntity is returning false. The existence check is explained at:
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/Using_EclipseLink_JPA_Extensions_(ELUG)#How_to_Use_the_.40ExistenceChecking_Annotation
    It states that by default, tje existence check is set to check the database implying that the HostTypeEntity with that identity doesn't exist in the database. Some questions if you are sure it does exist; what is the Entities id, what version of EclipseLink are you using and have you set any of the existence checking options anywhere?
    Things to try would be explicitely setting the check_database option or reading in and using the managed instance as the reference instead.

  • "no manifiest section for signature file entry" when run the Jar file

    I built an application by using JBuilder 8.0 and it works fine. But when I deploy it into a jar file, whenever I run it, the following exception appears:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.SecurityException: no manifiest section for signature file entry javax/security/cert/Certificate.class
    at sun.securtiy.util.SignatureFileVerifier.verifySection
    Because I didn't do anything about the security when build the application. I am really confused. Can somebody help?

    I had a similiar problem using NetBeans. There must be a way to view the properties of your jar from Jbuilder and set its manifest. I am very new to this myself, but all I did was edit another manifest and copied into mine. Here is my example manifest:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: J3Ed
    The first line is the default line for a manifest. It is very simple and there is much more that could be added, but is not always necessary. I recommend reading the documentation :
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/Books/javaprogramming/JAR/basics/manifest.html
    Also if you have an archiving utility such as powerarchiver or winzip, open your JAR and check to see that you have a MANIFEST.MF file. If you do then edit it where needed, if not create one and its relative location should be set to META-INF/MANIFEST.MF.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to set path to run a Java program?

    my pc os is win2000 service pack 3.
    cpu is celoron 667mhz
    256 pc133 sdram
    i have done the setting b4 run a java program but no any effect.
    setting as below:
    set path=c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\bin
    set classpath=c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\lib
    my java file is store in C:\Java, file name is HelloWorld.java, so when i type:
    C:\>
    C:\>Java\javac HelloWorld.java
    (the screen show me : java\javac not internal or external........")
    and i try again as follow:
    C:>
    C:>\Java>javac HelloWorld.java
    (the screen show : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:HelloWorld/java)
    i cant do anymore, who can help me?

    you need to put the CLASSPATH to dir: c:\j2sdk1.4.1_01
    and also to the directory you are working
    For example, you are working in "C:\Myclasses". You need to put:
    set CLASSPATH = C:\j2sk1.4.1_01;C:\Myclasses;
    if you don't put your working directory, java doesn't find your classes
    Try it and luck!

    Are you ready to kick yourself? The problem lies in the class Auction. You are using showLots() to print the lots, which you are trying to show the lot number, the description and the highest bid. But no there is no where in the class where you set the highest bid. In enterLot() you pass the description of the lot and it creates a new lot with the lot number and the description, but you don't give a bid. Then after the bids are done you do not update Auction to reflect the bids. Let the kicking commence. :-)
