How to set up Leopard server on a wifi-only network?

Hi - I'm having a lot of trouble getting Leopard server installed and running on a wi-fi only network. Standard setup says I have to be connected to a local Ethernet. Advance setup allows me to start services, but then the server disappears after a few minutes.
Anyone able to do this successfully?

Per the documentation, there is no way to do this. Leopard Server requires a dedicated Ethernet port on the subnet that it serves - so I'll have to bridge my Ethernet and wifi networks. As I don't have a hub of my own, I'll upgrade my Airport Express to an Airport Extreme, connect the mini and see if the services come back up or if I have to reinstall.

  • DNS/web-server hosted off-site. How to set up Leopard server for mail?

    Hey Everyone,
Brand new xserve with leopard server 10.5.2. Currently, Our web and DNS server for our domain,"company.com" is co-located off-site with an MX record of "mail.company.com" pointed at the static IP of the office where our mail server is. I want to replace the mail server with the xserve. With that in mind, how do I configure the DNS on the xserve during initial configuration to reflect that? Give it a self-referencing FQDN like server.company.office and see if the mail service can handle the domain hosted elsewhere?
I'm pretty new to servers and would love be able to keep this all in Standard but I'm not afraid to jump into Advanced if need be. I've created a test domain through GoDaddy of "company2.com" with an MX record of "mail.company2.com" pointing at the IP address of the xserve. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Help setting up Leopard Server(Standard) and VPN

    Hello,
    Here is my set up:
    We have a static IP.
ADSL Netgear Router takes in the internet connection. (Not sure what the version is, but it had a VPN wizard).
Latest Aiport BS serves just the wireless.
    Leopard Server in Standard Mode.
For the life of me I can't get the VPN working. I can't even make the server public. Granted I am out of my depth, but I am endeavoring to learn but there seems to be so many boxes to tick with servers that I never even know where I am up to.
On the 3 items in my setup above, what should the settings be starting to look like.
If I type our servers FQDN into Safari I am told that the server does not exist, but I can't work out how to make it available to the public. I am guessing that if I can't see the server via a browser then I am never going to be able to connect via VPN?
If you know of any other questions that I should be asking too, please let me know. My googling is getting me no where. I have even been doing the lynda.com tutorials on Leopard Server. So I promise that I am trying.

    Hi
Perhaps if I broke it down in these two ways.
    (a) There is nothing stopping you from using the built in Routing Services in Leopard Server. To make things clearer these 'Routing' Services would be VPN, Firewall, NAT, DHCP and possibly DNS. Basically and simply if your server (by that I mean the hardware you are using to be your server) has two ethernet ports and if your ISP supplied broadband service is by DSL Cable Modem then you don't need a 3rd-Party Router. You can simply connect the ethernet cable from your Cable Modem directly into one ethernet port (this would be the WAN/Public/External connection. The other ethernet port can be connected directly to your network switch/hub (switch would be better). This would be your LAN/Private/Internal connection. Running Gateway Assistant will help you configure the Server (simply to begin with) to 'share' the internet connection on your WAN port with any client computer configured to use your LAN port. It is NAT that basically fulfils this function. The Firewall Service will allow any request that comes from your 'trusted' LAN access to the Internet using the WAN port. Any 'untrusted' request trying to gain access to your LAN from the Internet is blocked by your Firewall unless you configure your Firewall to allow it through. The VPN Service along with the DHCP Service can be configured to allow trusted remote clients to access your Server as well as the private network as if that remote client was actually at your Server's location. Remote client access is achieved by simply keying in the fixed external IP Address that is used at your Server's location in Internet Connect as well as a name and password that is configured on the Server.
    (b) You purchase a 3rd Party Router to this all for you and dispense with the built in tools on the Server. Simply configure the Router to allow VPN passthrough. There are 3 basic VPN connection methods: PPTP, L2TP and IPSec (ISKAMP). Each of them offer increasingly more secure methods. Depending on which method you finally decide on may mean using additional 'client' software not available as standard on the client OS.
Back to (a): If your internet connection is down a phone line then you would need to use an ADSL Modem Router anyway. For me it does not make much sense to connect the LAN side of this Router to your Server and to further configure the Server to do something the Router can already do for you in most cases better and simpler. Why complicate things trying to do this server side when by your own admission 'I am not getting it/anything'
There is some excellent advice on these forums regarding VPN have you searched for them? If you have and you are still struggling to understand this then perhaps it may be more beneficial as well as being cost effective to get a professional in to do this for you. You would benefit enormously as not only will you see how it gets done but you will also be able to ask questions that may make the whole concept of VPN and networking in general more understandable.
    Hope this helps, Tony

  • How to best migrate Leopard server accounts to Leopard server?

Hi All. I have a "sandbox" stand alone Leopard server on a Mac mini. Now I am ready to move/migrate the accounts and (hopefully) sharepoints and preserve the POSIX and ACLs? Is this monumental? Both are 10.5.2 versions of the server. If this is not too complex then great, but I need (at the very least) to move the accounts and sharepoints. The accounts are simply accounts, not mobile accounts or even with home folders on the server. The users have a shared volume and each their own folder/directory within that. Both servers are set up as "stand alone" file servers at this time.I have only read that a "back up and restore" method is recommended. There isn't much posted on this and I am not a server or network specialist. Thanks for any suggestions on this move. J Langlois

    Kia ora,
Have you had any joy doing this yet. I have 10.5.2 server on a dual G4 and now want to transfer the whole kit and caboodle over to a new intel imac, what needs to be done?

  • How to set a Proxy Server for appletv

The network I'm on requires that I set a Proxy server to get out to the internet.
Is there anyway to specify a Proxy server for AppleTV?

    Hi Red-Baron,
The Apple TV does not support Proxy Server configuration (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305010). An alternative is to enable internet sharing on a computer and have the Apple TV connect to that computer.

  • How to upgrade from Leopard Server 10.5.8 to Lion Server?

In anticipation of Lion, I finally retired my G5 2.7GHZ Mac Desktop running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 and moved the start up drive to an 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo MacMini.
    It is running fine.
I would like to now upgrade to Lion Server, but without spending $499 for Snow Leopard Server. I do have a Evaluation Copy of Snow Lleopard Server 10.6. Can I use this as an intermediary transition to Lion?
Any other suggestions short of spending the $499?

There is no way at this time to go from 10.5 to 10.7 with out extra steps.
If this is a Mac Mini and Not a Mac Mini Server you can get the 29.99 Snow Lep client disk and install client on the mac mini then install lion and server on it making it a server and then bring your data back
If this is a Mac Mini Server you can install it from a Snow Lepored Client Via target disk mode. then you can erase the drive and install fallowing this apple support document.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4766
Now Migration will only mode your data and not update the OS, so migrating is not the solution for you. if you where to buy a new machine with Lion installed then migrating your data would he a help, but to update the OS you need to have 10.6.7 or higher
or a secound machine and be able to do the install over Target Disk mode.

  • How to set a line of table as read only during runtime?

How to set a line (or a cell) of table as read only during runtime?

    hi wei
when you create a table keep the readonly property of table as false
you create the columns of table as inputfield.you bind the readonly property of
the inputfield to two context variables
say one for all the columnfields you to want always have as readonly and let this contextattribute of type boolean and let this be attr1
and another for all the columnfields you donot want to be readonly and let this contextattribute of type boolean and let this be attr2
initially set the context attributes attr1 and attr2 as true so the entire table is readonly.
based on the condition you want to check change the attr2 to be false.
    if(your condition)
    wdcontext.currentcontextelement.setattr2(false);
    hope this helps.

  • How to Upgrade Snow Leopard Server without erasing existing 10.5.8 settings

    Hi,
    Please Help,
How do I upgrade my MAC Leopard 10.5.8 Server to MAC Snow Leopard 10.6 Server without erasing (deleting) any server settings (running services) and without erasing my existing workgroup manager (workgroup accounts).
    Please help.
    Thanks,

XServe Mac OS X (10.5.8) Imac

The following is what we did on a server we are testing to move to 10.6:
    -Back up your existing server.
-Make sure your back up will run if you need it.
-Insert the disk and install 10.6. (I did this on the backup since I was planning to have the server still running 10.5 for a while. I imagine you could upgrade either copy.)
It appears that if you already have a 10.5.x OS on the drive you install to, the files are, as you said, "upgraded" to 10.6. Settings, services and users are also "upgraded" during the install to 10.6 formatting as needed by the new OS.
We then turned the server on and accessed and used our services as we had in the past with the users we had set in the past.

  • How to set up local server to use a remote server for login authentication?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
We are trying to set up a "sub-network" (dont' know if this is the right terminology) using a 10.4 Server OS, to manage a set of clients... the trick is that the client login/home directory information is on a different remote server, and shall remain there, for the most part.
To make it easy to understand here's the environment:
*Local Server:* 10.4 G4 Server Quicksilver 1G dual--we have total control of this one
*Main/remote server:* 10.5 Xserve.. don't know which vintage--we have very very very little input on this machine.. effectively at the mercy of the sysadmin of this system who is very conservative in changing anything (hence the need for a separate server to install applications and client machine-specific profiles, etc since the Xserve admin refuses do it). This serves MacBooks/MacBookPros and few iMacs. (no Windows PC.. as that group of comptuers have their own server)
    client: ~20 eMacs/iBooks all running 10.4.
use environment: elementary school-->very low network demand (no e-mail, just running local apps linking to server(s) for licensing and login, and some file saving small files on remote server, user preferences, etc).
The remote server (the Xserve) has all the login authentication, as well as the home directories. every school year, the directories get updated as new students enroll and old students graduate. Currently all the clients are directly linked to the Xserve via LDAP while we bring the local server on-line.
the local sever (our G4 Quicksilver) will have few network applications that will support the client machines. We also will be setting up computer accounts and groups for our clients so that we can properly set their environments (the Xserve admin will not do this on the Xserve, so currently all the clients are connecting to the server as a "guest computer" from what little I understand watching what was done)
now, what is the best way to approach this type of set up with minimal "inconvenience" of the Xserve admin?
I am pretty experienced with standalone UNIX and macOS X administration, but a novice to this whole Server and network setup thing. Any suggestions, instructions, pointers to URLs with how-tos is much appreciated. I am not afraid to use Terminal (grew up on UNIX before GUI), etc., and willing to try safe but unconventional setups if that is what's needed...
    thanks for any help!

Oh never mind.... I figured it out myself helps to read up on the manuals. d'oh. sorry for the bandwidth waste...

  • How to set up a server for PPro editing (and AE finishing)?

    Hello everyone,
I may be a bit offtopic with this question, but at the same time it's really related to PPro.
I never worked in any post-house facility, and I come from a very indy background, so I never had a chance to see any edit suite hook up to a server.
I am wondering how great it is, how it could help our projects? And also what are the basics to know, the stuff to avoid when you're a newbie like me (in term of server network settings)?
Right now, we're running 3 Mac Pros to edit our projects. They are all connected through Gigabit ethernet.
Our workflow involves that all Mac have the entire footage in there own drives. We're using the network only when importing new content to copy it on the 2 other Machines.
We found out that if we use Mac #1 to open a PPro project contained within Mac #2 drives (as well as the footage), it's okay but the performances are not as great as opening a project in its own drives.
So we try to copy (move) the projects in the right Mac before to work on it. Of course, everytime, we have to relink everything if we don't want Mac #1 to read the footage from Mac #2…
When it come to big projects, with lots of Red footage, it is a pain, and we usually end up using only one master machine for the edit, and it's only when it comes to finish in AE that we really start to split the project onto the 3 platforms.
So this is where the idea of a server comes in mind. Mac #1 would work on a project A, then when moving to work on project B, Mac #2 could open project A and keep working on it - no relink: the project AND the footage are all on the server.
That is my basic idea. Sound simple, but really I have no idea if it really works. Is it something I can really do on a server?
How the server really helps to keep the performance? If I see PPro's performance lowering down when accessing projects and footage from our actual simple network, is it going to be better accessing the same datas from a dedicated server.
I'm looking at the Mac Mini server with Lion Server. What Lion Server does that Lion OS doesn't do already?
I know, it sounds like completely newbie questions, but I honestly have no idea.
Can a Mac Mini with Lion Server serve the 3 Macs running Snow leopard? Or do we need to update them?
My idea is to use Pegasus thunderbolts for storage drives, plugged in the Mac Mini, then plug all the 3 Mac into the Mac Mini, with what I believe should be Gigabit Ethernet…
Am I right? A least a bit? What did I miss?
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge guys
    Julien

If you are going DIY route, this is your only option: http://magazine.creativecow.net/article/build-your-own-affordable-san-that-iworksi
However that probably won't work with RED footage.

  • How to set at the server level to log transport request in SAP ME

    Hi:
when I do configuration in SAP ME, can I set at the system level to log for transport request ?
so I can  use transport request for other client or server.

    Hi!
There is no "transport request" in SAP ME, however, there is Configuration Data Transfer Export/Import activity which can export the data to ZIP file at the source site and then import that file at the destination site.
CDT activity can utilize CTS+ as a transport channel but I would suggest ZIP file instead because the file can be edited manually in case of any issue or if you want to remove some data.
For details, please consult this How-To Guide.

  • CRM 2013 - How to set a Proxy server for plugins to run with?

We have several plugins that need to query web services on the Internet, and I need them to go through a specific proxy server.  How do I set this without hard coding the proxy into the plugins?  I've tried adding the proxy to the machine.config,
I've updated the web.config in the CRMWeb folder, I've even added the proxy to IE under the users used by the App Pool Identity then used netsh winhttp to make this a system proxy.  None of these have allowed my registered plugins to access the internet.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks.

The way I'd do it is to not rely on .config files, but instead set it programmatically in the plugin, and either store the proxy configuration data in the configuration string for the plugin registration step, or store it in some custom configuration entity

  • How to set up file server in Azure Availability Set?

    Hi,
We're going to set up file servers with SMB shares on VM:s in Azure.
How do we set up the file services in the VM:s so that it works in an availability set?
I've read something about using DFS. Is that the recommended "Best practice" way of doing that in Azure?
    /Andreas
    AN

    Hi Andreas,
It depends on your needs. If you want to provide redundancy to your FTP services, it is recommended to group two VMs in an Availability Set to ensures that during either a planned or unplanned maintenance event, at least one VM will be
available and meet the 99.95% Azure SLA.
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-manage-availability/#configure-each-application-tier-into-separate-availability-sets
If you want to set up two files servers in Azure VMs to an availability set, you can follow the steps below:
    1. Create a virtual network:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/create-virtual-network/
    2. Create a VM in a new cloud service and choose teh virtual network you have created:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-windows-tutorial/
    3. After the VM is running, you can create an availability set on the VM in the Configure page of the VM in the managemeng portal.
    4. Create a new VM into the same cloud service and add it to the availability set.
