How to simplify opening/closing Excel to grab data from LabView based software running outside the main VI

Hi,
Right now I have a program written to automate an AOP pilot with a few inputs and outputs (3 valves, ozone generator, UV lamp, TOC meter, ozone meter in liquid and gas phase, and a UV-VIS detector). The valves are controlled with digital outputs, the rest are analog in- an outputs going into a USB-6009. The one exception is the UV-VIS detector (S::CAN Spectro::lyser). We read in about 200 Abs/m values with their corresponding wavelengths. The software of this tool is ran on the same computer and it writes down these values in an Excel file (.fp). My VI needs to select this excel file while running, and grabs the corresponding data from the Excel file. I made a finetuner to select the latest data from the excel file. Now, even though this works, it's not practical for many reasons. It closes all other excel files while running for example, and opens and closes Excel twice in 30 seconds.
I found out the software of the UV-VIS detector is written in LabView too, but the company doesn't seem to care much about sharing the original VI's or making it complementary with other LabView VI's. Now I was wondering if there's an easier solution than opening/closing Excel. Are global variables an option for this problem? I'm far from an expect in LabView, so I just want to know if I should put in the time to learn about global variables or not
Thanks in advance.
Dominic

hello dominic;
I have read your study about AOP recently and I wonder your Labview VI. Can you share the code you used with me?

    OK, so I went and explored  what this site said about Mackeeper. But before I delete it can you tell me:
    If we don't need anti virus program and if the one that came with the machine is supposed to do the job then what does that say about the viruses that Mackeeper says it found? Were they not there and the program made them up? Or were they there and Apple didn't deal with them?
    Thanks for all feedback.
    They were not there and MacKeeper made them up. Delete it completely. I have seen it cripple people's Macs.

  • How can I use Automator to extract specific Data from a text file?

    I have several hundred text files that contain a bunch of information. I only need six values from each file and ideally I need them as columns in an excel file.
    How can I use Automator to extract specific Data from the text files and either create a new text file or excel file with the info? I have looked all over but can't find a solution. If anyone could please help I would be eternally grateful!!! If there is another, better solution than automator, please let me know!

    Hello
    You may try the following AppleScript script. It will ask you to choose a root folder where to start searching for *.map files and then create a CSV file named "out.csv" on desktop which you may import to Excel.
    set f to (choose folder with prompt "Choose the root folder to start searching")'s POSIX path
    if f ends with "/" then set f to f's text 1 thru -2
    do shell script "/usr/bin/perl -CSDA -w <<'EOF' - " & f's quoted form & " > ~/Desktop/out.csv
    use strict;
    use open IN => ':crlf';
    chdir $ARGV[0] or die qq($!);
    local $/ = qq(\\0);
    my @ff = map {chomp; $_} qx(find . -type f -iname '*.map' -print0);
    local $/ = qq(\\n);
    #     CSV spec
    #     - record separator is CRLF
    #     - field separator is comma
    #     - every field is quoted
    #     - text encoding is UTF-8
    local $\\ = qq(\\015\\012);    # CRLF
    local $, = qq(,);            # COMMA
    # print column header row

    # print data row per each file
    while (@ff) {
        my $f = shift @ff;    # file path
        if ( ! open(IN, '<', $f) ) {
            warn qq(Failed to open $f: $!);
            next;
        $f =~ s%^.*/%%og;    # file name
        @dd = ('', $f, '', '', '', '');
        while (<IN>) {
            chomp;

  • Writing data from labview to excel

    Hi, currently I'm trying to get an array of data from labview into a specific excel file everytime.
    The attachment i have is a program creating a new worksheet everytime it runs. I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Anyone can help me?
    Attachments:
    Excel Copy Example.vi ‏19 KB

    So what is the specific problem? What is it doing that is incorrect? If the problem is that it is creating a new file every time its because the first subVI is opening a spreadsheet template file. Or at least I think it is since all of the subvis are missing...

  • Create a macro in Excel to capture Data from MS Project

    We have a standard reporting tool which presents data in the format that our Head Office require.  I currently copy/paste data from MS Project into the Excel spreadsheet however I would prefer to set up a macro in the Excel work to get the data from
    the MS Project file however the macro only seems to pick up from the "paste" command.
    Is it possible to set up a macro in Excel to copy data from MS Project?
    M.L. Pate

    Yes, it is possible through VBA coding. Here is a simple:

  • How can I join 3 tables while extracting data from SAP R/3?

    I have 3 tables with the following columns
    Emp table (emp)
      emp_id
      emp_name
      emp_add
    Dept table (dept)
      dept_id
      dept_name
      dept_loc
    Location table (loc)
      loc_id
      loc_name
    Now. If I want to select data from loc_id = 10 and emp_id between 2000 and 3000
    How to join these three tables while extracting data from R/3
      join condition
       loc.loc_id = dept.loc_id
    and dept.dept_id = emp.dept_id
    and loc.loc_id =10
    and emp.emp_id between 2000 and 3000.
    Could any one let me know the procedure to extract this data into BW system.

    Hi,
    shouldn't your join condition be:
    loc.loc_id = dept.DEPT_LOC
    and dept.dept_id = ??
    If you can join the three tables then create a generic datasource (RSO) based on a view (create your view with your join in SE11).
    Enable the loc_id and the emp_id as selectable in the datasource so you can then select the values from a BW IPack.
    hope this helps...
    Olivier.

    Not necessarily. I'd suggest downloading and installing the "combo" update. That's a combination (thus the clever name) of all the updates to Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.

    Please clarify your "Elements 12". Is that as in Photoshop Elements 12 (photo editor) or Premiere Elements 12 (video editor). And, on what computer operating system is the program running?
    Your question is pointing to Photoshop Elements 12 and that you have posted in the wrong forum. If this is a Photoshop Elements 12 question as I believe it is, please post your thread in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum using the following link provided for your convenience
    https://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements
    The alternative is to wait for a moderator to see your thread here and move it from here to the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum..
    We will be watching for a confirmation on what program you are using.

  • How to refresh AdvancedDataGrid in flashbuilder 4, getting data from webservice

    I have tried many things like below to get my grid updated when it gets data from webservice ,
    myGridName.ValidateNow(),
    myGridName.InvalidateList(),
    if(myGridName.updateCompletePendingFlag)
    the problem is I have two buttons that can show hourly, and daily data in one grid, when activating daily button, I got the data in the grid but with delay of maybe 2 to 5 seconds(to get data from webservice) and within this period if user clicks on hourly button, to see the hourly data, then user will see the daily data attached to the end of the hourly data in the grid, please notice that there is just one grid. the problem is I don't know how much to wait for the first set of data to show up on the grid (daily data) and then enable all other buttons so user can only just choose Hour button when all the daily data has been shown in the grid, so when user click on hour button, the daily data will not attached to the end of hourly data in the grid.
    any help is appreciated

    Thanks for the answer,
    I do disable other controls when one of the buttons are clicked and waiting for the data, and  in my retrieved data function from webserver , at the very end after I retrievd all the data from webserver and add it to the dataprovider of the grid, I enable all the controls, but the problem is in reality , I see that all other controls are enabled sooner than I see the data show on the grid, and because of that user can think there is no data in the grid and click on the hour buttons , causing that  the daily data to be attached to the hourly data in one grid.
    I appreicate if you could still help me

  • How do I access on my MacBook Pro data from my iMac stored on Lacie external hard drive.

    i am attempting to use my MacBook Pro with the files and data from my iMac which is in the shop. On my iMac I backup regularly with Time Machine to my LaCie external hard drive. When I open my Lacie to my laptop the only data I see is from the laptop--I can't find the iMac data. I tried getting in via Time Machine--same problem. I tried searching through Finder--same problem. I tried logging into my laptop as the other user--same problem. both macs have latest operating system. Both are seriously souped up with plenty of storage and memory.

    Connect the LaCie HDD to the MBP.  Click on the icon.  Is there a folder with the title Backups.backupdb?  That is where the Time machine data is stored.
    Ciao.
