How to start iTunes Minimized?

Hello, I am trying to get iTunes to start minimized when I start it. I have it set on my main computer to share the library so I can get to it from other machines, so I'd like it to pretty much run all the time.
I've set iTunes to minimize to the system tray, and then I set a shortcut in the Startup section of the Start Menu. Then (using the properties selection), I set the shortcut to start "Minimized".
However, iTunes doesn't seem to listen to the shortcut, and starts in full window mode...
Is there a way to get iTunes to start minimized? Or, better yet, is there a way to have it run its sharing as a windows service?
thanx!
k

Cool!
However, I'm having a small issue with the script... I copied and pasted, and had to do some small editing to make it run right. Now it's running, but then after iTunes comes up, I get an error box that says:
Windows Script Host
Script: c:\bak\StartiTunes.vbs
Line: 13
Char: 1
Error: 0x80041021
Code: 80041021
Source: (null)
And I'm not exactly sure what that means...
Here's the contents of my script:
Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run """C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe""", 2
wscript.sleep 3000
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colProcessList = objWMIService.ExecQuery ("Select * from Win32_Process Where Name = 'iTunes.exe'")
For Each objProcess in colProcessList
foobar = split (objProcess.Name, ".")
WshShell.AppActivate ( foobar(0) )
WshShell.SendKeys("%( )") '//equivalent of Alt+spacebar
WshShell.SendKeys("n") '//equivalent of n key

  • How to Start iTunes with Windows Minimized?

I leave my iPod connected to my PC frequently, but every time I boot to Windows, my iPod screen stays lit and says "do not disconnect" until I start iTunes.
Problem is that if I put iTunes in my "Startup" folder, then it always boots with the iTunes window open, and not minimized in the tray. I even selected "minimze to tray" option, but there is no "boot with Windows" option.
    Any suggestions?

Ok, first -- iTunes is dumb. It is the only application I know that ignores the intWindowStyle variable (the "2") in the script above.
Anyway, here is a workaround -- this starts iTunes, waits 6 seconds, then minimizes it. You can edit the time (in milliseconds) if this is too fast/slow.<pre>

  • Starting iTunes Minimized not Working (Windows XP, SP 2)

I am using itunes (latest version 7.4.3.1; although this behaviour has endured over several previous versions)as a server, streaming music to two Roku Soundbridge devices over a wireless network.
Given the Wonderful World of Windows, re-booting one's machine at daily intervals (at least), is to be expected. In order to automate the process somewhat, I have an iTunes shortcut in my "StartUp" folder, with its properties set to "run minimized." That should bring up the machine with iTunes minimized to the system tray, and a clear desktop.
Not so. After every re-boot, iTunes is running open on the desktop, and needs to be minimized manually.
Not a big deal, but I don't like applications that behave in un-expected ways; they can be flaky in ways not immediately obvious also.
    Any suggestions?

The script below works for me. Save it as something like "startitunesminimized.vbs" and put it in your Startup folder instead of the iTunes shortcut.
    Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.Run "iTunes", 0, "false"

No. in iOS there are 2 separate icons, its always been this way.
The Music icon is just your Music Library, and iTunes Radio. Nothing else is in there.
The Itunes Store icon opens the Store where you can access the Music, Movies, TV Shows and other sections to buy and download media.

  • Auto starting iTunes - minimized to system tray.

Is there a way to have iTunes startup in the system tray? I have a business process using Video iPods where my clients have asked about this capability. There are a number of 'internal' podcasts that our sales force subscribes to and having iTunes start in the system tray allows this process to work background rather than 'in your face'.
<I've tried putting it in the startup group minimized, but it has no effect>.
    Thanks for your help.

Yes. In itunes, edit/preferences/advanced. Check the boxes "show itunes in system tray" and "minimize itunes window to system tray".
Then, drag the itunes shortcut to the startup folder in the start menu. Right click the new shortcut in the startup folder and select properties, then the shortcut tab. In the "run" drop list select "minimized". Itunes will open when your computer starts and minimize to the system tray.

  • How to start iTunes in XP? "safe mode" produces: "A rental is being transferred..."

iTunes does not become visible.  Task Manager shows it has started (in Processes).  Trying "safe Mode" only comes up with the message:
"A rental is being transferred. If you quit now, the transfer will be cancelled. Are you sure you want to quit?"
and there is no "Continue" button.  I'm trying to run itunes for the 1st time after installing it (from iTunesSetup.exe  v.11.0.2.26).  I'm not ready for any "rental".

  • Keeping itunes minimized when playing

Can someone tell me how to keep Itunes minimized when opening a song from a folder on my desktop.I hate when choosing a song and then having to minimize Itunes everytime

When file types are associated with an application, this application will open.
There's no way known to me to prevent this.
Activating the Mini-player (green button in the iTunes window) will open iTunes, but it will only show the small Mini-player window.
Another way is to choose column view in a Finder window and navigate to the Desktop. Choose the file and listen to it using the preview.
Yet another way is to associate another application with the file type (QuickTime for example).
This will of course open QT, but only a small window will open.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi LordTim,
    >>However, I cannot get Access to load<<
How did you load the Access? Did you use Access object to automate the Access applicaiton?
If I understood correctly, did Access load successfully when you in a normal script?
If yes, I think the issue may relative to the Task Scheduler. I suggest that you get more effective response from

  • How do I start iTunes with whichever iTunes library I want?

How do I start iTunes with whichever iTunes library I want?
I've created a 2nd iTunes library using the "press shift-key while opening iTunes from the start menu" method given in iTunes help. Now, when I try to start iTunes from the Quick Launch menu or from the system start menu, I get the new library--without choosing it.
Otherwise, the new library works as I'd hoped. By turning off "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library," I'm able to use "Add Folder to Library" (where the folders are in the 1st iTunes library) without using more disk space for the 2nd library. So far, it works just fine for CDs and movies. I'm anticipating an iPad which can hold much less than my iPod Classic.
I have the latest iTunes (10.2.1.1)

    A solution found!
I found where Apple addresses the question. Actually, I had tried this before I found Apple's answer and before I asked the question here and I didn't get it to work. I finally have it working, but the Apple answer is missing a step--or so it seems.
    Locating Apple's answer:
    From the iTunes window,
Help > More resources > iTunes Support Website > iTunes Library and Backup > iTunes Library >
How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one.
    Apple quote:
1.If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
2.If you are using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu and choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
3.If you are using the Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
4.You should see one of the following screens:
    End quote.
As it says, you get a prompt to: Quit or Choose Library or Create Library.
I created my new library by choosing "Create Library" and expected to be able to use "Choose Library" later. So, when I clicked "Choose Library," I got a new window that's titled "Open iTunes Library" (it looks a lot like a Windows Explorer window). I selected (on the sidebar) the old library, clicked "Open" and nothing happened. The problem is likely my inexperience with this type of issue, but, still, the solution seems hokey.
After too much screwing around and a 24oz beer, this is what's working:
    1. If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
    2. Hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes. (You don't have to have the shift key down until just before you click the last "iTunes.") Don't release the shift key 'til the prompt comes up.
    3. The prompt is: Quit or Choose Library or Create Library. Click "Choose Library."
    4. When the "Open iTunes Library" window comes up, click the desired iTunes library on the sidebar. (Mine are named "iTunes" and "iTunesIPad.")
    5. Then, you'll see a list of items in the right pane. Find the file named "iTunes Library.itl" and click it.
    6. Now, with both the iTunes library name selected on the sidebar and the "iTunes Library.itl" file selected in the right pane, click the "Open" button.
    7. iTunes will come up using the desired library.
    8. Using iTunes from the Quick Launch menu or the desktop will bring up the same iTunes library again, even if you shut down your computer.
    9. When you want to change the iTunes library in use, start at step 1.
Nice about this, is that I would only have to get into the "iTunesIPad" library if I need to add something to it from my regular "iTunes" library or I want to sync to the iPad. Most of the time, I'll use my regular 185GB "iTunes" library (even here, I deselect many movies so that I can sync the library to my iPod).
    Caution:
I must add the warning that I'm doing this because the iPad (that I don't have yet), won't hold even half of what I have in my iTunes library. At this point, the "iTunesIPad" library will take up very minimal disk space since it's using pointers to the regular library rather than copies from the regular library AND it's easy to switch between libraries only when needed. I can't say that this will all work until I try more setup work and I actually use it with an iPad. If someone knows that this is going to cause problems or if they have a better idea, I'd sure welcome comment. BTW, before trying this, I restructured my iTunes library (File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "iTunes Media.") to bring it up to date and then backed it up on an external drive. The website "iLounge" has an article about the old and new library structure.

McAfee AntiVirus by any chance? See the thread Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?
Or it could be an issue with the SC Info folder. See TS1277 - iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization for details.
Or a repair install of iTunes from the Programs and Features control panel might fix the problem.
