How to use Double selection If statements?

Ok, this is what I have to do:
Present a menu to the user from which there will be 6 choices, A = add three number, S = subtract 2 numbers, M = multiply three numbers, D = divide two numbers, O = modulus two numbers, E = Exit.
2) If the user enters an A,S,M,O,D the program will prompt the user for numbers and perform the needed math on them.
3) if the user enters an E then the program will thank the user, and exit.
4)the program HAS to use Double Selection If Statements (no idea how to do these)
5) the program should use float point numbers for all the numbers entered, besides modulus.
heres what i have so far.. -_-
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class Ifprogram
public static void main (String[] args)
String Intro;
String A;
String S;
String M;
String D;
String O;
String Exit;
Intro = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "Enter A to add 3 numbers \n S to Subtract two numbers \n M to Multiply three numbers \n D to Divide two numbers \n O to Modulus two numbers \n and E to Exit.");
A = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "You selected to add 3 numbers. Enter the first digit to add.");
S = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "You selected to substract two numbers. Enter the first digit to subtract.");
}IM SO LOST.
If anyone could give me some tips on what to do, or where to get, that'd help A LOT! Thank you.

I can see that working, but
if(user entered 'A') {
A = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "You selected to add 3 numbers. Enter the first digit to add.");
} else if(user entered 'S') {
S = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null, "You selected to substract two numbers. Enter the first digit to subtract.");
}Is not working..
The errors i get:
16 ')' expected
if(user entered 'A') {
^
21: illegal start of expression
^

Thank you.
And another question if the data is already there in the child table if i try to load alone it must delete the old data in the child tablee and need to get load the new data and
How to do this ?
Arunraj Kumar
You can do that with an IF EXISTS condition
IF EXISTS (SELECT 1
FROM YourChildTable c
INNER JOIn @temptable t
ON c.Bkey1 = t.Bkey1
AND c.Bkey2 = t.Bkey2
DELETE t
FROM YourChildTable c
INNER JOIn @temptable t
ON c.Bkey1 = t.Bkey1
AND c.Bkey2 = t.Bkey2
INSERT INTO YourChildTable
where Bkey1,Bkey2 etc forms the business key of the table

• How to use multiple selection parameters in the data model

Hi, after have looked all the previous threads about how to use multiple selection parameters , I still have a problem;
I'm using Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.3.2 and I'm tried to define more than one multiple selection parameters inside the data template;
Inside a simple SQL queries they work perfectly....but inside the data template I have errors.
My data template is the following (it's very simple...I am just testing how the parameters work):
<dataTemplate name="Test" defaultPackage="bip_departments_2_parameters">
<parameters>
<parameter name="p_dep_2_param" include_in_output="false" datatype="character"/>
<parameter name="p_loc_1_param" include_in_output="false" datatype="character"/>
</parameters>
<dataTrigger name="beforeReport" source="bip_departments_2_parameters.beforeReportTrigger"/>
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q2">
<![CDATA[
select deptno, dname,loc
from dept
&p_where_clause
]]>
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_DEPT" source="Q2">
<element name="deptno" value="deptno"/>
<element name="dname" value="dname"/>
<element name="loc" value="loc"/>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
The 2 parameters are based on these LOV:
1) select distinct dname from dept (p_dep_2_param)
2) select distinct loc from dept (p_loc_1_param)
and both of them have checked the "Multiple selection" and "Can select all" boxes
The package I created, in order to use the lexical refence is:
CREATE OR REPLACE package SCOTT.bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(14);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(20);
p_where_clause varchar2(100);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
CREATE OR REPLACE package body SCOTT.bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
if (p_dep_2_param is not null) --and (p_loc_1_param is not null)
then
p_where_clause := 'where (dname in (' || replace (p_dep_1_param, '''') || ') and loc in (' || replace (p_loc_1_param, '''') || '))';
else
p_where_clause := 'where 1=1';
end if;
return (l_return);
end beforereporttrigger;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
As you see, I tried to have only one p_where_clause (with more than one parameter inside)....but it doesn't work...
Using only the first parameter (based on deptno (which is number), the p_where_clause is: p_where_clause := 'where (deptno in (' || replace (p_dep_2_param, '''') || '))';
it works perfectly....
Now I don't know if the problem is the datatype, but I noticed that with a single parameter (deptno is number), the lexical refence (inside the data template) works.....with a varchar parameter it doesn't work....
So my questions are these:
1) how can I define the p_where_clause (inside the package) with a single varchar parameter (for example, the department location name)
2) how can I define the p_where_clause using more than one parameter (for example, the department location name and the department name) not number.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion
Alex

Alex,
the missing thing in your example is the fact, that if only one value is selected, the parameter has exact this value like BOSTON. If you choose more than one value, the parameter includes the *'*, so that it looks like *'BOSTON','NEW YORK'*. So you need to check in the package, if there's a *,* in the parameter or not. If yes there's more than one value, if not it's only one value or it's null.
So change your package to (you need to expand your variables)
create or replace package bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(1000);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(1000);
p_where_clause varchar2(1000);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
create or replace package body bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
p_where_clause := ' ';
if p_dep_2_param is not null then
if instr(p_dep_2_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME in ('||p_dep_2_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME = '''||p_dep_2_param||'''';
end if;
if p_loc_1_param is not null then
if instr(p_loc_1_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || ' AND LOC IN ('||p_loc_1_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || ' AND LOC = '''||p_loc_1_param||'''';
end if;
end if;
else
if p_loc_1_param is not null then
if instr(p_loc_1_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || 'WHERE LOC in ('||p_loc_1_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || 'WHERE LOC = '''||p_loc_1_param||'''';
end if;
end if;
end if;
return (l_return);
end beforereporttrigger;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
I've written a similar example at http://www.oracle.com/global/de/community/bip/tipps/Dynamische_Queries/index.html ... but it's in german.

• Script logic - how to use a selection variable within an allocation logic

Hi,
I want to implement a simple top-down distribution to distribute values from a yearly budget (Y20xx.TOTAL) to a quarter budget (Q20xx.Q1, ... Q20xx.Q4) using the actuals of the previous year as reference.
If we hard code the members it works fine:
*RUNALLOCATION
*FACTOR=USING/TOTAL
*DIM ACCOUNT WHAT=ACC_NOT_ASSIGNED; WHERE=BAS(FIN); USING=<<<; TOTAL=<<<
*DIM TIME WHAT=Y2009.TOTAL; WHERE=BAS(Q2009.TOTAL); USING=BAS(Q2008.TOTAL); TOTAL=<<<
*DIM CATEGORY WHAT=SBO; WHERE=<<<; USING=ACTUAL; TOTAL=<<<
*ENDALLOCATION
Of course, we want to make this dynamic, using the values inputted in the selection screen of the package: time, entity and category.
So if we start with write the following logic, it does not work anymore:
*RUNALLOCATION
*FACTOR=USING/TOTAL
*DIM ACCOUNT WHAT=ACC_NOT_ASSIGNED; WHERE=BAS(FIN); USING=<<<; TOTAL=<<<
*DIM TIME WHAT=%TIME_DIM%; WHERE=BAS(Q2009.TOTAL); USING=BAS(Q2008.TOTAL); TOTAL=<<<
*DIM CATEGORY WHAT=%CATEGORY_DIM%; WHERE=<<<; USING=ACTUAL; TOTAL=<<<
*ENDALLOCATION
So, how to use the selection variables in this allocation logic? %TIME%, %CATEGORY% also did not work ...
regards
Dries
solved it ...
Edited by: Dries Paesmans on Feb 22, 2009 8:31 PM

Hi Dries,
Looks like you solved this, but if I can just add a small point -- when you use syntax like this:
*DIM ACCOUNT WHAT=ACC_NOT_ASSIGNED; WHERE=BAS(FIN);
*DIM TIME WHAT=Y2009.TOTAL; WHERE=BAS(Q2009.TOTAL);
each time the logic runs, it will scan through the dimension from the FIN and Q2009.TOTAL members, one level at a time, until it reaches the base members (where calc = 'n'). This may happen very quickly, if the dimension has very few levels, but could take a bit of extra time if it's a particularly deep dimension. (By which I mean many levels of hierarchy -- not some 1970's Pink Floyd musical reference.)
You may speed things up by using a member property instead of the BAS(xyz). Flag all the base members using a specific property value, and that way the logic engine can pick up the complete list of members in the WHERE clause, in a single query.
*DIM Account What=ACC_NOT_ASSIGNED; Where=[FloydProperty]="DarkSideOfTheMoon"; ...
This adds some maitenance work in the dimension, which may be problematic if your admins are changing it regularly (and will cause problems if they forget to update this particular property).
I can't predict how much time this will save you (maybe not much at all), but anyway I figure you'd want to know exactly what work you're asking the system to perform.
Regards,
Tim

• How to use the selection profile and status profile for production order?

Hi expert,
I want to know how to use the selection profile and status profile for production order. what's the usage for these two selection profile and status profile ?
Please help me.
thanks in advance.
george.shi

Hi George,
There are are two types of statuses.One is system status and second one is user status.These statuses will tell us current situation of an order.
We can't change system statuses.But we can create our own statuses through status profile.With this profile we can control user statuses.
In this status profile,
1.We define the sequence in which user statuses can be activated,
2.We define initial statuses
3. Allow or prohibit certain business transactions.
Selection profiles are used to select the objects (say production orders) with different status combinations.We assign status profiles to selection profiles in BS42 T-Code.

Raja.

• How to use multi select in a query report

I defined a lov. This lov retuns name and a id. I want to use the result of this multi select in my query.
I always get invalid number when I choose two items of the select. When I debug I see that the return value of the multi select is 1:2. How can I change the seperator : in , I tried the following but this does't work.
if :P26_PRODUCTTYPE IS NOT NULL then
l_sql := l_sql ||' and producttype in
(REPLACE(:p26_producttype,'':'','','' ))';
end if;

as you're finding, multiple values selected from html db multi-select list items (and checkboxes) are stored as a single, colon-delimited string. i explained an easy way to handle this via pl/sql in...
Multiple select list
...that post shows you how to throw the selected values into a pl/sql table and step through them as needed. it also showed how to use an instr to parse through the string if you want to go that route. you could use that same instr logic right in your sql query. so let's say your lov for your multi-select item (P1_MY_MULTISELECT, we'll call it) was defined as...
select ename, empno from emp order by 1
...and your user selected KING, FORD, and JONES. :P1_MY_MULTISELECT would store those values as...
7839:7902:7566
...you could then write a query to return the selected enames with something like...
select ename, job
from emp
where insrt (':'||:P1_MY_MULTISELECT||':',':'||empno||':') != 0
...hope this helps,

• How to use dynamic selection screen inputs in main program

hi all,
its a report where in it calls one dynamic selection screen( user need to enter the parameters here) after that i need to use those inputs for some check, can any buddy help how to use/ get that input parameters into main program.
regards,
vara..

Hi,
i think u have created that dynamic selection screen in seperate program and calling to ur main program.instead of that u just create that synamic selection screen program as include program and include it in ur main program.
or u need to use set/get parameter id concept.

• How to use a SELECT QUERY using fdmAPI.executeDML in FDMEE Jython Script?

Hi,
Just the way we use DELETE and INSERT Statement using fdmAPI.executeDML, is there any way of executing a SELECT Statement and get the output in variables?
I would like to refrain from using import java.sql and enter the connection details in a script.I would like to rather use SELECT directly if possible. I want to read the TDATASEG.DATAKEY column and use it for some custom process in a custom table
Thanks!

Hi SH,
Somehow after upgrading to FDMEE 11.1.2.3.530, this is not working.
I get an error saying
while (RSTxnType.Next()):
Attribute Error: 'oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleResultSetImpl' object has no attribute 'Next'

• How to use Multiple selection in ADF faces

i i would like to know how to use an multiple selection (ADF select many choice) to update the database.

Hi,
Timo is correct that there is no automated way for doing this. You can access the select many selection from a managed bean either accessing the ADF binding layer or by referencing a managed bean array property. So the use case is important. Use case would include the database attribute type to update

• How to use dynamic select query which queries from 3 different table.

Hi All,
I am new to Toplink, i would like to use a named query to select some of the columns from 3 different tables with dynamic where clause.
I have used the following lines. Please tell me how to get code for the dynamic where clause.
First try :
Vector objPersons = (Vector)session.executeQuery("findPersonByGlobalID",Person.class,vQueryArguments);
The above method is not returning the vector or collection.
Second Try:
ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery(Person.class);
query.useCollectionClass(LinkedList.class);
LinkedList person = (LinkedList) session.executeQuery(query);
The second try is returning the collection but, this fetches all the record from the table.
1. How to query for range of records?
2. How to query from multiple tables for some range. How to use dynamic range values ?
Please reply with your answers or some pointers would help.
Thanks and Regards,
Vijay.B

Hi,
Did you try using a SQLCall ? It might be able to satisfy you requirements .. :-
Employee employee = (Employee) session.executeSelectingCall(
new SQLCall("SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE EMP_ID = 44")
);You can get more information here :-

• HR-How to use dynamic selection fields in prog ..?

Hii
I have written a prog to select data pertaining to details of all employees who belong to a particular country . For this i have provided a dynamic selection field for selecting country (through Selection View).But when i am getting all the records for all countries.
How to use the dynamic selection fields in program or they behave in the same way as the standard selection given by the LDB .As if we enter a value in the std screen then the GET event acts accordingly .
Ajitabh Pradhan

Hi Ajitabh,
First off, is the Dynamic Selection working? If so, try the following code.. I am assuming, you only want to look at Permanent Address.
tables: pernr.
infotypes: 0001,0006.
start-of-selection.
get pernr.
rp-provide-from-last p0001 space pn-begda pn-endda.
check pnp-sw-found eq 1.
rp-provide-from-last p0006 1 pn-begda pn-endda.
check pnp-sw-found eq 1.
write:/ pernr-pernr,p0001-ename,p0006-land1.
end-of-selection.
