How to use encryption?

Hi all,
After installing Oracle db 11.2.0.1 on my Win7 laptop, I got the following completion message:
The Database Control URL is https://localhost:5500/em
Management Repository has been placed in secure mode wherein Enterprise Manager data will be encrypted.
The encryption key has been placed in the file: C:/app/dtc/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/localhost_orcl/sysman/config/emkey.ora.
Please ensure this file is backed up as the encrypted data will become unusable if this file is lost.
How do I use this file? Or how do I validate/check if my data is encrypted on not?
How do I make it unusable for testing purpose?
Thanks,

1 Oracle is not about rocket science
2 You do not use this file, db control uses this file
3 Obviously, when it is missing access using SSL will not work anymore
4 Did you even look into it? It is a text file, so tampering with it should not be a problem.

  • Azure sdk2.5 - how to use encrypted diagnostics connectionstring

    could you please guide us on how to use encrypted storage connection string for diagnostics. Assume that in Azure 2.4, my application is used encrypted storage string and programmatically decrypted and connected to diagnostics with DiagnosticsMonitor.StartConnectionString.
    Could you please guide on how to use the same scenario in SDK2.5
    thanks
    kiran

    AFAIK, it is not possible to do so with SDK 2.5. Any custom encryption/decryption logic wouldn't work because this is now stored in diagnostics.wadcfgx file and code based diagnostics manipulation is not supported.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Use Schannel for TLS Sockets on Windows?

    I need make a c++ TLS socket server running on Windows XP, and a c# TLS socket client on Windows 7.
    The reason of using Schannel TLS is that it is FIPS 140-2 validated.
    But it is not easy to find some sample code of Schannel.
    By search, I found two c++ TLS samples, but the samples use the secur32.dll, some APIs seem are FIPS non-approved.
    codeproject SSL/TLS client/server for .NET and SSL tunnelling
    http://www.coastrd.com/c-schannel-smtp C++ SSPI Schannel TLS example
    According to 140sp1000.pdf (Microsoft Windows Vista Kernel Mode Security Support Provider Interface (ksecdd.sys) Security Policy Document), following APIs are FIPS non-approved APIs.
    InitializeSecurityContextW
    ImpersonateSecurityContext
    EncryptMessage
    DecryptMessage
    I am quite confused about two things:
    One is that the FIPS non-approved APIs of ksecdd.sys also are also non-approved in secur32.dll?
    Another question is what's the correct way of using Schannel. Are the samples using Schannel in the correct way, must the APIs InitializeSecurityContextW/EncryptMessage be used?
    I want some sample code about how to use Schannel in native c++ and managed c#.

    I'm not sure what information you are referring to that indicates InitializeSecurityContext() and EncryptMessage() are not FIPS compliant.  InitializeSecurityContext() is required API on the client side.  EncryptMessage() is the required API to
    encrypt data.  Both APIs are important APIs in SSPI.
    In .NET, you would use the SSLStream Class, https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.security.sslstream(v=vs.110).aspx .
     MSDN has sample code for both the client and server.
    There used to be an SSPI client + server sample (WebClient & WebServer) on the Windows SDK.   I don't know if it is still there.  If you can't find them, please let me know.

  • How do I encrypt an archive for a PC user?

    I can't find a way to encrypt an archive for a PC user. There doesn't seem to be an option when making an archive from the Finder. I also tried making an encrypted disk image with Disk Utility but the PC can't open the DMG filetype apparently.
    In the reverse, the same problem exists if I try to open a zip file encrypted on a PC - can't be done.
    When I do a Google search the results for encrypted archive usually point to Stuffit Deluxe or encrypted disk images that you can use on your mac or another Mac.
    Does anyone know how to make/use encrypted archives that are cross platform? I'd like to avoid buying a program (i.e. Stuffit Deluxe) just for this one utilitarian task. Thanks.

    Thanks, Dave.
    I tried the command you gave me. It worked! I could open the zipped archive on my neighbor's PC.
    The only weird things, are that it seems to zip all the other folders, e.g. users\Marlinespike\desktop\target-file, in the filepath and not just the target file, and that it also drops the zipped archive in the home folder.
    I tried adding some of the other commands, such as zip -e -r or zip -er or zip -e -d but it doesn't seem to work. However, this is a huge improvement over where I was earlier.
    I clicked through those links - I forgot about Mac GNU Privacy and am going to check those out too.

  • What does VPN DO? And how to use it ?

    What does VPN DO? And how to use it?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vpn
    Or Google 'what is a vpn' or 'how to use a vpn' many people have explained this better than me.
    In short it wraps your traffic in to an encrypted link to a server (normally on the internet). Then the traffic leaves that server & goes onto the public internet. It is possible for the link to reveal information about you, but a VPN can protect you on open wifi or on bad networks etc.
    Sometimes the VPN terminates inside a corporate network, so users can do work at home securely.
    It is similar to using https for web browsing (secure http makes traffic difficult to intercept & read).

  • What is PKCS7 and how to use it?

    Hi! I'm in a project in which I must send a file encrypted with a key that is also encrypted with a public key, the receiver must decrypt the key using his(her) private key, and then, using that decrypted key to in turn decrypt the file.
    I've been told to use PKCS7 standard, but is not clear for me how it works, and how to use it. I use bouncycastle, and know that it has APIs to do something like this.
    Any light will be greatly appreciated!

    Look at the CMS functionality in the bouncycastle provider, in the bcmail distro. You can find some examples in the bcmail distro also. Maybe I'll post an example later.

  • How to use setFireActionForSubmit with parameters and capture the parameter

    Hi,
    Can anyone explain how to use setFireActionForSubmit.
    I am extending the Controller of ShoppingCartPG. In the extended controller processRequest method I am adding a button to the table and setting up the setFireActionForSubmit, so when the button is pressed it raises the event associated with the setFireActionForSubmit.
    I need to pass the RequisitionLineId as a parameter which is present in the VO associated with the ShoppingCartPG.
    I have used the following code in processRequest
    =================================
    public void processRequest(OAPageContext paramOAPageContext, OAWebBean paramOAWebBean)
    super.processRequest(paramOAPageContext, paramOAWebBean);
    OATableBean otbRN=(OATableBean)paramOAWebBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("ItemTableRN");
    OASubmitButtonBean oasb= (OASubmitButtonBean)paramOAPageContext.getWebBeanFactory().createWebBean(paramOAPageContext,"BUTTON_SUBMIT");
    oasb.setID("addnInfo");
    oasb.setUINodeName("addnInfo");
    oasb.setText("Additional Info");
    String pageName = paramOAPageContext.getRootRegionCode();
    Hashtable params = new Hashtable (1);
    params.put ("param1", pageName);
    Hashtable paramsWithBinds = new Hashtable(1);
    paramsWithBinds.put ("param2", new OADataBoundValueFireActionURL(oasb, "${oa.encrypt.current.RequisitionLineId}"));
    oasb.setFireActionForSubmit("addnInfoEvent",params,paramsWithBinds,false,false);
    otbRN.addIndexedChild(oasb);
    =================================
    And in processFormRequest method I am capturing the event "addnInfoEvent" and trying to capture the RequisitionLineId which I have passed it as a parameter.
    This is the code I have used in processFormRequest.
    =================================
    public void processFormRequest(OAPageContext paramOAPageContext, OAWebBean paramOAWebBean)
    super.processFormRequest(paramOAPageContext, paramOAWebBean);
    OAApplicationModule localOAApplicationModule = paramOAPageContext.getApplicationModule(paramOAWebBean);
    String strEvent= paramOAPageContext.getParameter(EVENT_PARAM) ;
    if ("addnInfoEvent".equals(strEvent))
    Number localNumber = 0;
    try {
    localNumber = new Integer(ClientUtil.getDecryptedParameter(paramOAPageContext, "param2"));
    catch (Exception e) {e.printStackTrace();}
    String outmsg="Line ID : " + localNumber + ":" + strEvent;
    throw new OAException(outmsg,OAException.INFORMATION);
    =================================
    But I am not able to capture the RequisitionLineId which I have sent as a parameter.
    Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong.

    Hi,

  • How to send ENCRYPTED email from 10v2

    Helllo,
    How to send ENCRYPTED email from 10v2 to end users who will receive their emails from Microsoft Outlook?
    I created a stored procedure to change user passwords. I need to email the users their passwords but the email message has to be encrypted since it contains user passwords. How do I use util_mail to send encrypted messages? The users will pick up their passwords through Microsoft Outlook. Thank you in advance.

    not sure what is the mechanics of decrypting (PGP maybe?)
    I have few tips ...
    1. look at DBMS_CRYPTO package
    2. create JAVA stored procedure (I'm sure there are some good samples to use java for encryption) to encrypt the body (this can be executed from pl/sql)
    3. save the body as a file on unix and encrypt it with unix command (this can be executed from PL/SQL utilizing UTL_FILE and JAVA stored procedure)
    4. forget sending the password in email and save the password on Oracle Apex site and configure access using single sign-on with transparent windows authentication
