How to use power not battery?

Just got new Mac Book Pro--my first laptop.  I am confused about the power cord and the power adapter.  How do I run the laptop using power connection instead of battery?  The power cord only plugs into the adapter, not the machine.  I'm off to a great start--can't seem to figure this out.

Yes, in fact it's a good idea to use the AC adaptor whenever it's convenient. There's no harm done to the computer or to the battery. See more:

  • How to use power query with sitecatalyst

    Hello,
    I need to use power query to import a table from sitecatalyst. Doing some tests I found that If remove the session from the url that has the report parameters, the app will redirect me to the login page, after entering the company, username and password
    it will load the report page with the data according to my filters.
    When I add the report url on the From Web option, excel does not allow me to add credentials. If I add the login+redirect url it allows me to add user/password but does not load the tables that appear on a regular browser.
    Is it possible to consume sitecatalyst without using Report Builder? If not, how you access the security info after you added the url.
    Thanks.

    To the best of my ability to tell, the right way to use this product from within Power Query would be to use its API. Unfortunately, we don't currently support either of the methods needed to be able to authenticate with the service (OAuth 2.0 and a relatively-custom
    digest-based method). Adding a mechanism to allow use of arbitrary OAuth-protected resources is a fairly high priority for us, and I hope we'll be able to deliver something before mid-2015.
    Scraping the website is very hard to do well -- both from an authentication and from a data discovery perspective.

  • How to use the not exists query

    Hello,
    Using obiee 11g,
    i would like to know how to deal with not exists query in the obiee11g,
    the query is like this
    select count(a.col1),a.col2 from table1 a ,table2 b where a.col1=b.col1
    and not exists
    (select d.col1 from table3 d, table4 e
    where d.col1=e.col1 and d.col1=a.col1)
    group by a.col2
    there are 4 tables.
    table1,table2,table3,tabel4
    this is what i need in a report,these tables are used in othere places also,
    would prefer if its possible to do in for a report i.e.e analysis itself.
    If not possible then may be in rpd since if i change in rpd it may reflect every place
    and not in for a report itself.
    thanks

    Implement this in report itself can be a tricky and tedious job..But better to have it in RPD - Physical - Select Table type
    USE NOT IN in place of NOT Exist..You can simply use SELECT statement in SELECT TABLE TYPE
    Hope it clear

  • How to use Power Query to load data from a single source into multiple tables

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement to load my data into three different data models using Power Query. Is that possible?
    My source is a SharePoint survey list, with similar questions like:
    1) Course lecturer - John Doe
    1a) The course was useful (rate 1 to 5)
    1b) The lecturer displayed good knowledge of topic (rate 1 to 5)
    2) Course Lecturer - Mary Brown
    2a) The course was useful (rate 1 to 5)
    2b) The lecturer displayed good knowledge of topic (rate 1 to 5)
    I would like to split the data into separate data models (one for John Doe; another for Mary Brown), so that I can compare the different lecturers. Other than running separate surveys for each of them, I thought of using Power Query to transform the data.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks.
    Regards
    GM

    Yes, this is possible.
    Start with a single query that returns you the data for all lecturers.
    Right-click on the "all lecturers" query in the queries pane, and choose Reference, once for each lecturer. This will create a query for each lecturer.
    Open the query for each lecturer and filter the data so that only that lecturer's results are visible.
    Click "Close & Load To..." for each lecturer's query  to load the data into the data model. This will create a data model table for each lecturer.
    If your question is more about how to transform such a survey list into a table that can be easily filtered, please provide an example of how the list shows up in Power Query.

  • How To use JVM (not CreateJavaVM)??

    Using JNI, I want to call the java class from C..
    Generally, I use "JNI_CreateJavaVM" method to create JavaVM's instance.
    when it continually call C execution file,
    it use much memory owing to creation of much JavaVM's Instances.
    1. I want to know how to use before create instance
    without creats another instance using "JNI_CreateJavaVM"
    2. I want to know how to use JavaVM that only create one it's instance.
    Any examples would be appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
    try to create one C thread for every Java application that you have to start. See http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/native1.1/invoking/invo.html file attach.c
    I.E. (hp-ux):
    pthread_create()...
    jvm->AttachCurrentThread((void **)&env,NULL);
    jobjectArray joa = env->NewObjectArray(argc, env->FindClass("java/lang/String"), NULL); // Parameters....
    jclass cls=env->FindClass("your class");
    jmethodID mid=env->GetStaticMethodID(cls, "main", "([Ljava/lang/String;)V");
    [env->RegisterNatives(cls,pmethParGui,1);] JNI CALL
    env->CallStaticVoidMethod(cls, mid, joa);
    jvm->DetachCurrentThread();
    pthread_exit...
    If your Java application use static memory, your memory will be shared.

  • U430 - How to use properly with battery?

    Is it o.k to conect the charger to the computer constantly?
    I mean, there is switch that when the battery full load it charge directly the computer?
    I ask because most of the time my computer on my table and I don't know if it's good to conect it to the charger constantly or everytime it is full disconect the charger.
    Thank's!

    A laptop computer battery should last between two and four years, or around 1,000 full charges, i have mine always connect to power when at home and the battery now holds about 50% charge it is 7 years old and well exceeded my expectations on life of the battery
    now days it all about storing the battery
    Fully charge new batteries before use.
    A laptop battery’s health deteriorates the more you charge and discharge it, running it from a power source will make your battery remain in a state of charge/recharge. Instead, when your battery gets to near 100% charged, unplug it from the power and plug it in again when it is low.
    Heat will dramatically affect battery life for both batteries in your laptop and spare batteries you have stored. Keep spare batteries in a cool place and try to make sure that your laptop has plenty of ventilation so that the battery does not get too warm.
    Keeping the laptop cool will also reduce the need for your fan to run which also uses more battery power.
    If you are using your laptop as a desktop replacement, consider removing the battery and just running the laptop directly from the power source.
    Store spare batteries or if you not going to use it for a week or so with approximately 40% charge, batteries even when stored will discharge over time.
    Adding more RAM to your laptop will actually decrease battery consumption as RAM will be used rather than your hard drive to run resource intensive processes.
    Your hard drive is a mechanical device and is a significant power hog.
    Try to minimize CD/DVD drive use. As with your hard drive, your optical drives are a mechanical device that will consume a lot of power when in use.
    hope this clears a few things up

  • How to use different (not local) user for NTLM auth in Authenticator?

    Hi All,
    I use custom authenticator to provide user / passwords to connect to .NET Web Services. I overloaded function getPasswordAuthentication() that returns right user / password combination for the requested URL. It all works perfectly for many kinds of HTTP connections: basic, ntlm, ntlm-v2, through proxy, ssl, etc.
    My problem is that during NTLM authentication from Windows computers JVM uses credentials of the currently logged in domain user instead of calling Authenticator to get other user / password provided by the user. In case when local user credentials fail to authenticate, JVM calls my Authenticator but in case authentication is successful it does uses local domain user and never calls my Authenticator. The issue is when this local domain user does not have enough permissions but authenticated correctly there is no way to supply JVM with another user to begin with.
    What can I do to force JVM to ignore local domain user and to use Authenticator to collect credentials during NTLM authentication requested by the server in case the software runs on a Windows box with currently logged in domain user?
    I am looking for the answer for a long time already but found only questions and suggestions to switch server from NTLM authentication which is not an option for me. From the developer's view it has to be pretty simple change for Sun to do in Java networking API. Is there any way to escalate it to Sun support? Maybe there is some property in some JRE patch level that allows to do this?
    Thank you very much!
    Mark

    Thank you for the reply. I have kind of an opposite problem. I can perfectly connect from Linux computers to Microsoft IIS servers using NTLM or even NTLMv2 authentication. My problem is connecting from Windows client computer joined to the same domain as IIS server with the domain user logged in to this computer. In this case this user account will be used in any HTTP connections I initiate to this IIS server instead of the one that I want to supply in my custom Authenticator.
    I have graphical interactive application that connects to IIS Server. When user runs it and connects to IIS server I want to prompt for the user/password regardless whether JRE may correctly authenticate using current user account credentials. The current user may not have enough permissions in IIS application so I want to use different user to login to IIS application.
    Thank you anyway,
    Mark

    Did you provide your username/password through the Power Query credential dialog?
    What authentication method is the database configured for?

    Hi Abhirich,
    Have you been able to successfully authenticate the user after considering the questions presented by Tristan?

    Well, no one
    OK so i did use colorTransform
    To do Something like Tint Black @ 50%
    ColorTransform(0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0);
    To take it back to normal colors
    ColorTransform(1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0);

    I have a 4th gen iPod touch that won't power up! I tried all the traditional stuff. I want to know how to tell if the battery is good. itunes see's the ipod in recovery mode. Tried dfu mode and did not work. Any ideas? I can hear the PC beep when plugging it in! I suspect a bad battery and trying to charge it ina wall charger made it hot!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The appointment is free.

  • Use power adaptor or battery

    When to use which (Macbook Pro)?  Use the battery at all times and drain then recharge or just when an outlet is not available?

    That was copied and pasted from the article named above under the sub heading "Standard Maintenance".  I did read that.  But that does not really describe how I use the computer.  I do not travel with it much.  I use it more like a desktop.  I purchased the notebook because of it's small footprint and portability.  I use it in various places around the home on a daily basis.  Wherever I am there is an electrical outlet handy.  If I follow the principal of discharging and recharging once per month then I would be using the power adaptor almost constantly.  Is this truly recommended?

  • Battery charges but ac power not recognized Presario CQ61

    Hi everyone.  I have a Compaq Presario CQ61.  A couple days ago after doing the windows 7 system update (don't know if this is really related or not) my computer stopped recognizing the AC adapter.  What I mean is the battery still charges all the way to 100%, but the OS never recognizes the computer as being on AC power, only battery.  This is annoying and makes things like updates, installs, and gaming extremely difficult and/or impossible.  I tried unistalling the Device in device manager and re-installing it.  I can't reflash BIOS because the software requires I be on AC Power.  I've even down a sytem restore and got nothing.  Please help if you can...I really don't want to factory reset.  My computer is not under warranty by the way.
    Thanks in advance

    My question regarding the icon was actually related to how it appeared in normal mode rather than safe mode.  I apologize for not making that clearer.  Safe mode was just a straight verification of the presence of the issue without doing anything else.
    According to this document, which may not necessarily be updated, there are seven adapters that should work with this notebook.
    HP 90W Smart Pin Dongle AC Adapter
    HP 90W Smart AC Adapter
    HP 90W Universal Power Adapter with USB
    HP 90W Slim Adapter -
    HP 90W Notebook PC Auto/Truck Adapter
    HP 90W Smart Combo AC Adapter
    HP Slim Travel AC Adapter
    Most of these are 90W adapters.  The only one that is supposedly rated at 65W is the last one and it's a special use adapter.  I'm not certain why the replacements for this unit are marked as 90W and the one it originally came with is a 65W, but most HP notebooks do use 90W adapters and the symptoms do align with an adapter that is rated to too low for this system.
    However, you could perform a system restore followed by  a full system recovery (if the restore didn't work) to rule out any software (e.g. drivers) issues.  By chance, do you happen to have access to a 90W adapter to test with?

  • Can I use a MacBook like a Mac Mini? How would I power it on?

    Is it possible to use a MacBook like a Mac Mini when I'm at home, with it plugged into a monitor? I've seen pictures of people using theirs when the MacBook is closed, but how would you power it on? If it's turned off, can it be powered on with the remote? And if not, how would I turn it on without opening it? I don't much fancy leaving it in sleep mode all the time.

    Basically, you have to use sleep mode, either
    with a USB keyboard and/or mouse
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286
    or with bluetooth
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1308
    You can use the Energy Saver preferences to set up schedules for automated shutdown (at night), startup (in the morning), and sleep (when idle) settings.
    If it's powered off, just open the lid and power it up, then close the lid again, or get a laptop stand and use both the built-in display and the external display at the same time in extended desktop mode, if you have the desk space.
