How use Cookies with flex

Can we use cookies in flex. If so, can any body give me the
sample code for that.

Rather than ordinary cookies, use Local Shared Object. It is
much more powerful than standard cookies.
I'll look for an example. What version of Flex are you using?

Hi, I am having problems with Tom Jordahl's article on 'Using
ColdFusion with Flex – Part 1: Creating and running a contact

I do not understand his instruction. In step 4, it states:
"Copy the channel definition from the example Flex
configuration files found in resources/config (default location:
C:\fds2\resources\config\). "
In that folder, I have the following files:
data-management-config.xml, messaging-config.xml, proxy-config.xml,
remoting-config.xml. So which file in this folder am I supposed to
copy from. And where am I supposed to paste it to? Is it into
WEB-INF/services-config.xml file ?
When I ran the test,
http://localhost:8700/samples/dataservice/cfcontact/contactmgr.mxml,
I get the following errors:
4 Errors found.
Error /dataservice/cfcontact/contactmgr.mxml:31

you'd have to do something like this:
(this is all assuming you want to read Strings from the socket. setSoTimeout works for any read() call to the InputStream associated with the Socket)

Use cookies with sessionManagement?

I'm trying to create cookies that I can pass to subsequent
webpages - all of my webpages are controlled by an Application.cfm
file with sessionManagement turned on (enabling session variables).
When a user logs in, I create a cookie for his org name (i.e.
<cfcookie name="orgname" value="#org_name#"
domain=".sprint.com">. With the debugger on, I can see the
cookie set on the login page. However, when I go to another page,
the debugger no longer shows the cookie. I only see CFID and
CFTOKEN.
Are we not allowed to use cookies with session

Sure you are. What version of CF. There was some cookie
issues with
older, pre 5.0, versions of ColdFusion.
Are you doing anything on the subsequent pages with the
cookie? I'm not
sure a cookie would show up in debugger on any page if you
are not
writing or reading it on that given page.

How to deal with Flex Exceptions ??

Hi ,
I know how to handle an Exception when dealing with Flex with server side that is , when an Exception comes from the server side (java) i can easily handle that on the fault event with the help of ErrorMessage .
But can anybody please let me know how to handle an Exception when it comes on to the ActionScript and show it to the User .
For instance , i have seen a half example like this :

We're about to move some of our code base to Flex 4, and I wanted to check in advance if there would be any issues with ALCS using Flex 4 Beta 2 and Flash Builder Beta 2.

If you are using player 10 ALCS swc and Whiteboard with Flex 4 and Flash Builder beta 2, it might throw an exception sometimes which has been fixed recently and will be updated in the next drop.
Player 9 ALCS swc should work fine. We haven't done testing extensively on Flex 4 for our framework, so if there are any issues that you come across, please report to us.

add the classpath to the JDBC-driver to the tomcat-
environment (I did it in tomcat.sh)
Then put your code accessing MySQL into a servlet....
You can put the user-ID and the password into a session-
object or read them in as parameters.
The book 'core Servlets and Java Server Pages' from
Marty Hall gave me a lot information.

Which is better frame works use along with flex

I am developing an hospital application, mainly includes the
management of outpatients and in front end i am using flex but in
back end i did not get a clear idea about which frame work has to
use or need of a new architecture. i just need some suggestion
which of these spring,EJB 3.0 and Jboss Seam is better for back end
implementation.

Hey kumar ,
I don't have experience with a lot of frameworks but I am
using Blaze-DS + Spring with deployed under glassfish.
I think you biggest problem here is how to make the frontend
pluggable, extensible and easy to maintain.
I do make all single screens as single modules. and each
module have it's own java class to do the work + some java classes
for general perpose.
Teh whole thing is build in ANTS and using jnit as a testing
framework for java. I don't have anything yet to do automated UI
testing.

Using XML with Flex - Best Practice Question

I am using an XML file as a dataProvider for my Flex
application.
My application is quite large and is being fed a lot of data
– therefore the XML file that I am using is also quite large.
I have read some tutorials and looked thorough some online
examples and am just after a little advice. My application is
working, but I am not sure if I have gone about setting and using
my data provider in the best possible (most efficient) way.
I am basically after some advice as to weather I am going
about using (accessing) my XML and populating my Flex application
is the best / most efficient way???
My application consists of the main application (MXML) file
and also additional AS files / components.
I am setting up my connection to my XML file within my main
application file using HTTPService :
<mx:HTTPService
id="myResults"

http://localhost/myFlexDataProvider.xml"
resultFormat="e4x"
result="myResultHandler(event)" />
and handling my results with the following function:
public function myResultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
myDataFeed = event.result as XML;
within my application I am setting my variable values by
firstly delacring them:

public var telNum:int;
And then, giving them a value by “drilling” into
the XML, E;g:
fName = myDataFeed.employeeDetails.contactDetails.firstName;
lName = myDataFeed.employeeDetails.contactDetails.lastName;

myDataFeed.employeeDetails.contactDetails.address.postcode;
telNum = myDataFeed.employeeDetails.contactDetails.postcode;
etc…
Therefore, for any of my external (components in a different
AS file) components, I am therefore referencing there values using
Application:

And setting the values / variables within the AS components
as follows:

Application.application.myDataFeed.employeeDetails.contactDetails.firstName;

As mentioned this method seems to work, however, is it the
best way to do it??? :
- Connect to my XML file
- Set up my application variables
- Give my variables values from the XML file ……
Bearing in mind that in this particular application there are
many variable that need to be set and there for a lot of lines of
code just setting up and assigning variables values from my XML
file.
Could someone Please advise me on this one????

I don't see any problem with that.
Your alternatives are to skip the instance variables and
query the XML directly. If you use the values in a lot of places,
then the Variables will be easier to use and maintain.
Also, instead of instance variables, you colld put the values
in an "associative array" (object/hashtable), or in a dictionary.

How can I use the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT command to send report to Portal via WebDAV. If I try:
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY( repid, REPORT_DESTYPE,WEBDAV);
there is an error:
identifier "WEBDAB" must be declared !
In the Document " Oracle Application Server 10G -Integrating Oracle Reports in Oracle Forms Services applications" It said the REPORT_DESTYPE may be FILE, PRINTER, MAIL or CACHE only. What about other types like OraclePortal and WebDAV ?

As far as I know, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), have no permission extension. In Reporting Services, it is use role-based security to grant user access to a report server. There are two types of roles: Item-level roles and System-level roles.
Based on my test, if we assign user with System User System-level role, the user will have permission to user Report Builder to create report. However, if we only assigned Browser or Report Builder Item-level role to the user, he/she will have no permission
to publish the report to the report server. In this situation, although user have permission user Report Builder to edit the report, it will have no effect of the report in report server. User who has assigned Browser or Report Builder Item-level role will
have no permission to delete report in the report server.
