HowTo make a servlet with PDF output to the browser

A new one goes here !
How do I make a Servlet which functions like the rwservlet, and pushes a PDF output to the clientbrowser ?
Is there any sample code that uses rwclient or others to produce a response ?
Thanks anyone.

Requests to the ReportsServer to run a job and return PDF is simply submitting a URL. You could easily write a servlet to submit a URL and stream the results back to the browser. However, this is a more generic requirement not really involving Reports (apart from the fact that you're calling it via the URL).
For more information on creating a servlet to submit a URL and get the results, you might like to cross-post to the JDeveloper forum.

  • How do you run a servlet with no effect on the browser window?

Is it possible to send parameters to a servlet (using POST or, if necessary, GET) from an application or html page running in a browser, without causing the current browser to be redirected, and without opening a visible new browser window to run the servlet?
If so, can you explain how to do this?

Sure, you could embed it as an image tag.
    <img src="http://yourserver/servlets/MyServlet?param1=foo&param2=bar" height=1 width=1>
This will probably produce a broken image in some browsers, unless you have your Servlet send a 1x1 pixel image to its output stream.

    Thanks...

I tried to get the screen height -1 and subtract from
all the ys in my applet but it doesnt work all the
time. I am drawing shapes and stuff with an algorithm
    I wrote for class.
is there a way to get origin(0,0) to the lower left
    screen easily.
thanksThe only way I can think of would be write a method to convert a "normal" y coord to an applet y coord. That would probably end up being a huge pain in the ass, since you would have to pass all y coords through it before using them, so I suggest you just get used to y being upside down.

    Birgit,
There was a bug with some german printer drivers where if you printed a report to that driver, afterwards you would see this behaviour with PDF output. This was fixed in an earlier 6i patch set. I would suggest that you download the latest 6i patchset from metalink and install that.

  • How can i set Adobe to open pdf from a secure website in the browser, it just pops up and asks to open save or download. we want it to just open the PDF directly in the browser with no popups, using IE 11

    Hi,
We are running Internet explorer 11 with the latest version of Adobe Reader.
have found when users login to a secure website and it has pdf links on there, it doesnt open these pdf directly in the browser, it wants to save them and then open them.
is there anything we can change to allow them to be opened directly in the browser?
    Thanks,

What is the easiest way to make an appointment with a contact from the address book. My idea is that once you identify a contact down the bottom where it has Text message Share contact, add to favorites it would be nice if it had make appointment in iCal. The open up iCal to todays date and go from there with all the relevant details?

  • Do I need to make an applet with swing point to the JRE 1.4 plug-in?

Do I need to make an applet with swing point to the JRE 1.4 plug-in? I mean, in 1.3.1 plug-in, if you did not run your code through the HTML converter, the applet would still use the browsers JRE (JVM). However, with 1.4.0, it seems that you don't need to. Is this correct?

When you ran an applet that has been compiled under 1.4 and needs classes or methods from 1.4 with an old HTML file (presumedly with the <object> tag that still refers to JRE 1.3+), the browser is going to look at the <object> tag and see that at least JRE1.3.1 is needed to correctly run the applet and since 1.4, which is higher than 1.3+, is on the system, it ignorantly proceeds to load and run the applet. The problem that you're going to run into is when you deploy the applet on the web and your viewer only have JRE1.3+, your applet which really needs 1.4, will crap out....

Since upgrading to v 4.01 I am unable to print from a .pdf opened in the browser. How can I fix this?
I can save the page, open in Adobe Reader and print. When in the browser the File - Print command does nothing. Printer screen does not open.
    Windows XP, all updates installed.

    Hi,
One thing to slow it down: low ink. Please check ink cartridges and replace if required.

  • FireFox 3.6 and Adobe Reader X. Reader X PDFs opened within the browser contain links, which do not work. Anyone got clues on why the links fail and how to fix?

When we rolled out ReaderX and AcrobatX we uncheck the Diaply PDF in Browser window. OK with IE, but ignored in FireFox (3.6.16). We can live with that except the PDFs have links to other URLs and clicking on them is ignored. Same PDF opened outside the browser the links work fine. FireFox with Reader 9.4.0 no problem. Reader X with IE no problem. I can fix the Display in Browser with a change to firefox.js, but have not figured out how to fix the links when the PDF is displayed within the browser.

    My replies are in Bold.
Thank you for your response and message.
    1. Are you seeing this problem with all kinds of PDF's or some specific  kinds like secure PDF's (with doc open password or printing  restrcitions), reader extended PDF's or PDF forms.
This problem is with all kind's of PDF's.
    2. Are you opening a locally saved PDF by doing a drag drop in the  browser or right click and open with IE/FF or directly opening a PDF  hosted on the internet?
It doesn't matter. However I do it, I see this problem in Firefox, IE & Google Chrome.
    3.  Can you also check the version of the Reader X browser plugin? you  could find it at C:\Program Files\Common  Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll. Right click -> Properties  -> Details
If version is 9.0.x then you could try a clean install of Reader X.
I have checked it. It's the latest plug-in (though at the moment, I have gone back to Adobe Reader 9.4.1, as I've mentioned before, because I need the reader to be working fine for my work and daily life. I am just waiting for a fix before I try Adobe Reader X again.
As I've mentioned before, I am seeing this issue ONLY on my Windows 7 Ultimate (Laptop). In the desktop's at work, with Windows XP / Vista, I don't see it. Adobe Reader is working fine, browser integration is fine, the floating tool bar works fine, the right click menu pop' up where the right click is done...I can also save PDF' from the main toolbar at the top and so on...
I really have run out of ideas.... and I am very surprised that no expert support personnel (if at all there is one) have dropped by or said anything or mentioned anything about this.
    Anyway.... Cheers.

  • What can I do to rectify the situation in which Firefox will not open pdf files in the browser, even though I have already used all the help suggestions to no avail?

I have tried everything Mozilla has suggested. Still when I click on a pdf, I get the message that the browser cannot open a pdf. I have gone through the help protocol, and it does not work.
I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it, and still not able to open pdf files within the browser.
What else do I do, except go to IE or Chrome and just leave Firefox completely???

A possible cause is the presence of a PDF plugin from an older Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

I have Windows XP. Using firefox as my browser. Suddenly, I can't open PDF files in the browser. I've tried all the fixes mentioned. Nothing works!!! Checked the plugin settings, checked Adobe Reader settings.

  • Firefox won't open a PDF link in the browser, screen just shows blank.

If using a Mac, go to the Firefox Plugins and disable the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3. This is a recent plugin update, and as soon as it was installed I noticed that PDFs wouldn't download.

I don't know what other side-effects it can create, but it solved my problem.

  • I removed chrome 10 and newly installed FF4 final, and I can't read PDF files within the browser. There was no problem in Chrome.

I removed chrome 10 and newly installed FF4 final, and I can't read PDF files within the browser. There was no problem in Chrome. I can't even see the acrobat reader plugin in the plugins page. Acrobat 10 is already installed in my PC. Every time I try to read a PDF file on the web, FF tries to download it instead.

As recommended above by Bernd Alheit, I posted this on the Adobe Reader forum. There, I received the advice to repair the installation under the help menu, which I did and it fixed the problem.
Similar to your solution but found it's a fix found under "HELP" menu and not Add/Remove.
    Thank you.

  • Multiple RDF exeuction with PDF output?

    Hello,
First, let say I'm beginner with HTML DB but experimented with Forms and Reports.
We want to create a new application with an HTML DB front end to enter data and launch reports.
We have 3 complex crosstab .rdf reports that produce PDF output. Our users want us to run them separatly but also they want the possibility to run them together and present only one pdf output, that is the concatenation of the 3 pdf, via a single button click.
In Forms, I would probably generate the 3 pdf on Report server file system and after execution completion, run a freeware that merge the 3 pdf together and present the resulting pdf on the screen. This required to run report one after the other in sequence (sync).
But from HTML DB, I don't know if I can do something like this i.e. create the 3 pdf and when created, merge them and present it to the user? I have take a look at Oracle Report itself but found nothing.
We run our DB on Unix, we are using 9iAS for listener and Win2000 on the client.
    Thank you
    Jean

We solved a similar situation by creating a 4th report that was a combination of the original 3 reports. When the print all button is hit, we run the 4th report.
It does makes maintenance of the reports an issue. If you change one of the reports you have to change the 4th report.
However, you do get some benefits like page numbering.
Another possibility, might be to just have 1 report that does the whole thing, then use parameters to decide to print all or part of it. That way you wouldn't have the issue of maintenance.

  • Problem with PDF output quality

We recently upgraded to CS4 Suite Design premium and i am having problems getting illustrator to print high quality output.  I have a file created in illustrator which contains 300dpi tiff images created in photoshop (CMYK colorspace in both photoshop image and illustrator file)  when i print this file to pdf everything looks hi-rez except these images.  i have attempted adjusting all the obvious settings in the print dialoge box including:  Output/Printer Resolution, Graphics/Postscript level, Advanced/overprint and transparency flattener options/custom settings.  and nothing has worked.  Other things i have noted, is that in the print dialog box the only presets listed are Custom, Default and Default Web/Video/Mobile.  I have looked through the online help files and found the info on how to add "High Quality Print" to my adobe pdf presets, however it doesn't work.  furthermore i have tried the instructions here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/14.0/WSA79FA899-BC95-401e-BD44-5B26BC31B369.html  where it says to move the files from "Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Application Support\Adobe PDF"  however there is no folder called "Application Support" on my system.  I have run out of ideas.
The odd thing here, is that i can take the AI file into photoshop, and print a "High Quality Print" from photoshop with no problems, but i'd like to remove this step to speed up my workflow.
I've attached both the high-quality pdf output from photoshop and the low-quality pdf output from illustrator for reference. (look closely at the logo's)

Figured it out myself! yay!  (only took my entire moring)
    The solution:
    Dont print to PDF!
SAVE AS COPY, then select Adobe PDF and click SAVE, this will bring up a dialog box with the options you need (including the "High Quality Print" Adobe PDF Preset)
This was not clear in any of the instructions i read
