HP 4540S sudden freezes, hang ups etc

Hello,  i have quite a serious problem, and to be honest i can't really tell which would be the cause. My laptop keeps having immense lag or hang ups short time after i boot up the windows. The issue escalated proggresively ,  i mean from the point it could barely run a game ( Counter Strike Global Offensive) to be more exact  , the hdd disk was 100% active like it was intensively used. Then it went to the point when the disk led was completly lit when in idle.  And at the final stage it just couldn't boot up my windows again.
At first i suspected that is the hard disk and i replaced it . After a short time , couple of minutes, after i finished installing windows on my new hard disk, same symptoms showed up. Windows becomes unresponding, no matter if its during a process or in idle, the disk light is completly on. This lasts for like 2 minutes then it works normally for like 30 secs or 1 minute at most then it hangs up again. I did various checks, with the HP utility tool , the short and the long test , no hdd errors could be found ( it was quite expected given the fact this disk was brand new).  I have no idea where the problem might come from . I don't think it's the motherboard controller( or at least i hope so, even the problem looks like it is a bad controller) .
What is interesting that i managed to update the bios to it's last version and the symptoms changed a bit. When the laptop hangs up the hdd disk is no longer lit, but the freeze is quite more aggresive. By aggresive i mean the explorer is completly unresponsive, the waiting time for things to come back to normal is higher, like 4-5 minutes, and the time is normally operating is somewhere around 10-20 seconds, half a minute if i'm lucky .
Laptop : HP ProBook 4540S
OS : Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium
Current Bios:     F.60 A                 15 Jan 2015
Previous Bios: F.50 REV A            8 Aug 2014
i can provide hard drives models too , the old and the new one if needed but i don't think it would be necessary.
What i've tried: Using the HP tool to diagnose memory and hard drive( both short and long DSM tests)
all tests where successfully passed
Using the Laptop on battery only or with battery removed . The symptomes were exactly the same so i don't think it's a power source issue
The laptop hasn't been dropped, nor opened before, didn't spit any kind of liquid on it. etc etc.
Warranty has expired
Fun fact is that i  could make my old hard drive functional  again after formatting on a different computer and using on it. So it's clearly not the disk, but something is, and i really hope you guys can help me out.  Any idea what might cause this?

  • Labview problems, file corruptions, hang ups, etc..

we are having endless and constant problems with labview.
The problems are all reproducable on 3 different machines.
Im going to list the 3 most troubling.
The biggest problem right now is that our vi files keep getting corrupted approximatly every hour of work. The files cannot be reopened.   Upon repopening the file, the processor utilizes 100% of the cpu.  The three comptuers are all checked out to be okay, hard disks, ram, etc, and one is ever brand new with 8gb or ram..  I suspect the problem has to do with the matlab script environment.  On one of the comptuers, after installing labview, i cant even get matlab to start up, it gets stuck utilizing 100%   of the processor. This is the latest and greatest edition of matlab and labview 8.2 but was 8.0 a week ago.  The reason we upgraded is to fix this. This is a huge disapointment and has costed many weeks of work.  We are now going to try to remake all teh sub vi and matlab script, again.  I feel the problem is the programming langugae at this point.
Another problem is that labview keeps hanging up when we are double click some of the graphical charts. It happens sometimes but not others but generally a few times a day..  Again, the problem is reproducable on all three computers. I think the problem has to do with the graphical objects being created by being copied rather then recreated each time from the front end but i dont  see why this would matter as they should not be inheriting any properties.
Each time we create a new graph or object on the back panel, it goes to some artibrray position on the front panel which seems to be a huge distance from the rest of the objects.  Moving these objects takes a great deal of time, around a minute each time,  there has to be a better way then recreating the object and duplicating its properties each time on the front panel.   No matter where we align the grid, the new objects go to some arbitrary position.
Just wondering if anyone has seen problems like this before....
    I doubt is just us.

I have never seen this in many years of using LabVIEW, on multiple systems (desptops, laptops, even Dell's with Celeron processors ) Can you repeat this issue with a simple VI and post it here so others can test it?
"Another problem is that labview keeps hanging up when we are double click some of the graphical charts."
Do these charts contain large amounts of history data? Remember, if you are diplaying data in a chart, there is no need for it to contain 10,000 data points, as your screen is probably 1280 pixels across. Can you post a VI with one of these charts that gives you trouble?
"Each time we create a new graph or object on the

I don't know if LabVIEW has a feature that lets you control where the next new object on the front panel will be placed, but I have found it MUCH easier to click in the general area on the Block Diagram where you will want the object, then go to the front panel, copy the control or indicator or chart, click in the general area on the Front Panel and paste your object. The control or indicator in the Block Diagram will be placed where you last clicked. That makes copying so much easier, since the object in the block diagram is so much smaller.

  • LabVIEW 6.1 Freeze / Hang – Related to User Interaction / Potentially File I/O

    Hi Everyone
As you can see by the title, we are using an archaic version of LabVIEW. This will not change, as the system has been running since 6.1 was new, and it is our philosophy not to touch a running system.
The thing is that it isn’t a running system anymore. Or should I say it’s never been perfect, only that we didn’t notice. Anyhow… Here comes what this is about:
We use LV in a jet engine test environment. Now, a normal engine test would take something like an hour or maybe a maximum of two, depending on the applicable test procedures. This time frame used to cover the majority of tests and we had no problems whatsoever. Recently though, we had an accumulation of engines that caused problems and therefore the tests started taking longer and longer, up to four or even five hours. And that is when the problems started…
LabVIEW would run just like it should, until after a long time it would suddenly freeze / hang upon user interaction. It looks like this could be related to some file i/o, like writing test results to an excel file or alike (“Save”), but I cannot rule out 100% that this impression is wrong. The data, however, will never be saved to the file in cases of a freeze / hang.
To test it and see what happens, we had let the application run over night and write some data and a time stamp to a text file, so we could see if and when it would hang. Nothing happened, obviously because there was no user interaction.
It may be handy to know that we are running LV on a Windows XP SP3, 32Bit system. The O/S doesn’t hang / freeze and everything else carries on working just like it should, it’s only the LabVIEW application as such that hangs (all of it, not individual *.vi’s or loops). Normally, after several minutes the application is back, but TCP and *.xls ActiveX references (refnum, in a global variable) are closed, and need to be re-established manually.
I know this information is very vague and you may need more input to be able to help. Yet it is a starting point.
    Thanks for feedback!

Really hard to even begin to diagnose the problem with this data. You mentioned that your wrote to a text file with a time stamp, so I'm assuming from this that the program can be modified (just not upgraded to a newer version)? If so there is a diagnostice utility in the Windows kernel32.dll that might help, if used properly it shows "stuff" going on in your code and in the Windows environment. What we do here is create a little sub-vi that will write a string to the Windows debug "file", and salt these throughout our code, showing when commands are issued, threads are shut-down, etc. Using a free download utility from MicroSoft called dbgVIEW we open a monitoring window behind our code and watch what is happening. It is particularly useful if you are running your application as a exe as it can give you a view into the inner workings without the overhead of writing to a file, etc.

  • My macbook pro suddenly freezes; screen turns off and computer freezes.  Have to hard restart.  Error message appears upon restart, saying something about kernel, etc.  Can anyone please help on this issue?

For the past month or more I've encountered what I consider to be quite a serios problem with my Macbook pro.  The laptop suddenly freezes without warning, the screen turns black, while the hard drive apparently stals and the system no longer responds.  The only way to resolve this issues is to restart the computer via a hard reset.  After restarting, an error message box shows up asking me to report the error, which I've already done on numerous occassions.  The problem occurs at a frequency of 1 every 2-3 days, sometimes more often than that.  The error message that comes up is very complicated but contains some key words amongst which includes "kernel."  This makes me believe that it's an issue with the video card, and was wondering how I can remediate this problem so as to get the normal function of my laptop back.  If anyone can be of any help, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • CTO Seagate 500 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive Issues (beeps, clicks, freeze, hang)

The other threads on this issue have gotten completely out of hand with most new posters not bothering to read the older posts. So we still get "It's the optical drive" and "It's a problem with all 7200 RPM drives" or "It's all MacBooks that have the problem." Those posts aren't helping any of us with the specific issue noted in this subject fix our problem and gather helpful information. This thread is only for those experiencing issues with the CTO Seagate Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG 500GB 7200 RPM hard drive. If you don't have that drive and are having problems with your new MacBook Pro, please start a new topic or look for an existing one that matches your issue.
    _CTO Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG 500GB 7200 RPM Problems_:
    1. *The drive beeps intermittently*. Unusual sound and not typical of any other hard drive I've ever used in a MacBook Pro or PowerBook.
    2. *The drive clicks/clacks quite loudly*. This is much louder than typical drive behavior.
    3. Most importantly, *the drive freezes or hangs* in conjunction with the other sounds. It causes games to freeze for a second. It causes HD video to hang momentarily. It brings whatever task you're doing to a complete stop for a second or so, several times per hour.
    4. These issues all occur while the MacBook Pro is sitting on a desk, untouched and unmoving. It's not related to any specific user input or action.
    Troubleshooting
    1. SMS: The built in SMS may conflict with the G-Force technology in the Seagate drive. While it's odd that Apple chose to use the drives with G-Force, disabling SMS has not fixed the issue.
    2. *OS X*: It's been suggested this is a problem with OS X and its power management. However, users have reported the problems continue when booted into Boot Camp. This would seem to eliminate OS X as a factor.
    3. *Normal Behavior*: Several users have said this is normal behavior for 7200 RPM drives. Apple themselves have reportedly told this to users calling for a fix. I can only say I've used 7200 RPM drives in my MacBooks exclusively since they were available and I've never had this issue with any of them. This is not normal behavior, especially the freeze/hang associated with the beeps and clicks.
    4. *Change Energy Saver Settings*: Set Energy Saver so the drives won't sleep. This has not fixed the issue for me. I always set the drives not to sleep as a matter of practice (necessary for HD video & Aperture work) and the issue remains.
    5. *Problem with all MacBooks regardless of drive*: This is total b.s. We've got several MBPs here at my company and none of them have the issue.
    _One Solution_
In May, I purchased a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM from NewEgg.com. Note that this is a non G-Force model of the same CTO drive. I had been using it in an external FW enclosure. I decided to swap the drives. *With the NewEgg 500/7200 drive in my 2009 MBP (3.06GHz), all of the issues are gone. The drive doesn't beep, doesn't click, and never, ever hangs or freezes.* It's whisper quite and very, very fast. I literally can't hear it unless I put my ear on the case.
The CTO drive, now housed in a FW800 external enclosure, continues to have the same problems. It no longer beeps, but clicks and clacks loudly, and still hangs and freezes. This would seem to entirely isolate the drive as the problem and remove the MacBook Pro from the equation.
Some posters in the other thread claim that Apple engineering has reviewed the problem, witnessed the beeps, clicks, and freezes, and had labeled them "normal behavior." If true, this is unacceptable. It is impossible to do any professional work, or even play a game for that matter, with a drive that constantly hangs or freezes. We have to stay diligent in pursuing a fix. Be polite, be friendly, but be persistent.

My revision is 0006APM2 also. I would like to know this info as well especially since some posters are not having this problem.
That said - I think there is a business strategy behind all this. Apple is saying there is no problem so that they don't have to recall ALL drives in whatever spec, revision, etc., since that is an extremely expensive resolution. Instead, I think they will quietly fix it in an update and all of a sudden you will notice your drive isn't clicking and hesitating. Perhaps if there are drives out there that can't be corrected in this manner, they will issue a recall/replacement. Being in the software business, I tend to think it will play out this way. The few hotheads that actually return their machine will pale in comparison to the cost of a recall - especially if the affected batch of drives was large in scope.
I think if everyone sits tight it will get fixed. If not, the drive is only a $100-$150 component of this expensive computer and it can be user replaced. I do however strongly encourage anyone with this problem to report it to Apple regardless of the outcome.

  • Windows 7 freezes / hangs when playing video or audio on any media player

I've had this issue since installing Windows 7 (32 bit) over 2 months ago and have been actively seeking a fix for the majority of those two months. In windows XP pro (32 bit), I had no issues whatsoever. The problem manifests itself as a complete hang of all system functions and inability to interact with my computer aside from moving the pointer around.
This only occurs when I am playing some sort of media (mp3, avi, mp4, mkv, etc) on any media player that I had installed at the current time of testing (WMP12, VLC, Realplayer). The initial response is a hang of the system which then can become a freeze if I click around too much during the hang. After approximately 3-5 minutes the problem is alleviated and the system plays catchup with the video/audio sync.
Below is a complete rundown on my system and fixes floating from other threads that I have attempted.
    My System Spec:
Windows: Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit) Version 6.1 Build 7600
    Motherboard: Gigabyte Ds4-X48 Crossfire Ready
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256Bit DDR5
    CPU: E8500 Wolfdale (3.16) Core2Duo
    Ram: 4GB ( 2x 2GB OCZ Reapers @ PC8500 1066MHZ )
    PSU: 600W OCZ GameXStream
    HDD - Primary - 1.5TB Seagate
    HDD - STORAGE - 1.5TB Seagate + 500GB Western Digital
    Audio - Integrated Realtek
Drive Bays: SATA Combo Drive (Samsung) + IDE Lightscribe DVD-MultiRecorder RW
As you can see, my system is more than capable of running Windows 7 and probably just as qualified to captain a space shuttle.
Things I have tried to no avail
    - Changing the Power Plan
    - Adjusting the overclock of my GPU to factory defaults
    - disabling Media Player Network Sharing in services.msc
    - Only having WMP12 installed
    - Shark007 Codec Pack
    -Not having Shark007 Codec Pack
    - Undergrading WMP12 to WMP11
    - CLEAN BOOT - Freezes/hangs still occured regardless.
    - Registry optimization and cleaning
    - Playing video after fresh install still causes freezes
    - SQMClient/MachineThrottling IS NOT THERE TO BE DISABLED OR DELETED
    - Adjusting RAM timing, frequency and voltage in BIOS
    - Use Display driver provided by Windows Update for ATI Radeon HD 4870
    - Tested several other Catalyst and Display drivers
    - Updated Chipset , Audio Driver, Network Driver
    - Clean installed 4+ times ( I clean installed inbetween all of the previous attempts listed above)
    - Uninstalling programs such as AIM, MSN Messenger, Adobe products, Daemon Tools Lite, Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
-My computer is not eligible for the Intel Matrix Storage update
    -Disabling aero
I am now starting to suspect maybe Company of Heroes may be an issue as it is Divx endorsed.
I froze once while typing this up due to wmp12 playing a mp4 music video in the background.
Can anyone recommend a good skin and theme that will make Windows XP look like 7? I'm starting to think that it's my only solution.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your posting.
As for this system freezing issue, we generally need to analyze the performance monitor logs and memory dump files to locate the root cause. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum because of the nature of forum support. A support call to our product service team is needed for the debugging service. I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS
If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.
Having said that, I'd still like to provide the following general troubleshooting steps to see if we can eliminate this problem:
Note: Please perform a complete system backup first. If any unexpected issue occurs, we can quickly restore the system to the current status.
    1.    Scan your system to make sure that the system is virus free. Temporarily disable your anti-virus software to see if this problem is gone.
    2.    If you have recently installed any software, hardware or drivers, please remove them.
    3.    Run Process Explorer to check which processes are using a lot of memories or cause high CPU utilization:
    Process Explorer
    4.    If the process is a service, you can use these steps to find out what applications are using most of the CPU: Open Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, look for the process that is using the CPU and note its PID (Process ID). Note that you may need to go to the View/Select Columns menu and make sure that PID (Process Identifier) is checked.
Once you have the PID run the following from a command prompt:
    tasklist /svc
This should give you the application associated with the PID you identified in the previous step.
However, if the issue still persists, please contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for further troubleshooting. I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thanks!

  • Fixed my SL freezes, hanging, beachball

After migrating from Leopard to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) about a month ago, I experienced a constant issue with hanging applications, sporadic freezes with a variety of applications.
I have gone through all the suggestions posted wrt to this issue and for me the following fix worked (so far...) rather perfect. My systems now runs as stable as it did using Leopard. Reinstalling, PRAMMING, VRAMMING, CleanUps, DiskUtility check, S.M.A.R.T. status checks & eventually just using TimeMachine restore did not solve my freeze/hanging/beachball issue
_My solution_: go to ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
and put all the plugins you see there into a custom folder (I named mine SwitchedOff). Now move all the plugins to that folder and reboot. Well: now your browsers are decapitated, so I moved
    Flash Player.plugin
    flashplayer.xpt &
    Silverlight.plugin
    back into ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
and restarted the browsers. (now enabling flash & silverlight video options)
Result: no more sporadic freezes, hangs, 30-60 secs. beachball phenomena and basically a stable steady OS I was used too.
FYI: I have not tested moving back the other Plugins into my ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SwitchedOff folder. They now contain:
    DivXBrowserPlugin.plugin
    Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin
    Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin
    Googletalkbrowser.plugin
    iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
    JavaPluginCocoa.bundle (an alias)
    NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave
    npdivx.xpt
    nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
    Quartz Composer.webplugin
    QuickTime Plugin.plugin
    XStandard.plugin
I will do some testing if re-adding these plugins recreate the freezes etc. but for now this solution works for me and will enjoy a freeze-less OS for now.

You're correct. BTW, these are installed on my SL machines and have never caused any issues for a year and a half (beta-tested SL):
    DirectorShockwave.plugin
    DivXBrowserPlugin.plugin
    DRM Plugin.bundle
    Flash Player.plugin
    flashplayer.xpt
    Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin
    Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin
    Google Earth Web Plug-in.plugin
    Installer Log File
    iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
    ipxBrowserPlugin
    JavaPlugin2_NPAPI.plugin
    JavaPluginCocoa.bundle
    npdivx.xpt
    nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt

  • App store hang-ups

I've only had my iPad for a week but have already had a couple of problems with the app store. This morning, when I tried to download a couple of apps, the waiting box would just show up on the home screen with a blank loading bar. The same was true for an update I tried to install. Similarly, last week at the app store, anytime I tried to navigate somewhere I would just get a white screen with "Loading" and the spinning rays with no progress. In both cases, things seemed back to normal 15 minutes later or so. Also, in both cases, there were no problems with my wifi - I checked that. Are these kinds of hang ups and freezes normal for the store, or could there be some sort of problem with my iPad causing this?

I did a reset, which didn't immediately solve anything. The problem just disappeared about 15 minutes after it started. I wouldn't think it's a hardware problem since other apps and Internet connectivity all seemed to be working at top speed while the app store problem was happening. I guess I was curious if other people had experienced app problems in their time with their ipads.

What operating system version, and do you have any backups of your data off the machine? TimeMachine? Option Key bootable clones? Storage? DVD's?
A reinstall of the operating system may be in order as a last resort, so if any of these steps on these links get you into the machine, make sure to backup your personal data (Music, Pictures, Documents, Movies) off the machine to a non-encrypted  powered external drive regular storage drive (not TimeMachine as it might be corrupted too) and disconnect as soon as possible.
Good Luck and report back all what you tried.

  • Qosmio x300 intermittent hang-ups

I have a new Qosmio x300 and have been having the same issue as described here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=42058&tstart=0
The computer locks up and if sound was playing, it loops very rapidly for about 5 seconds.
It happens as well when the computer is idling,
If video is running, it freezes for the duration of the hang-up, also with a rapid audio loop, then after 5 seconds the sound resumes, but the video "smears" for another 5 seconds.
If a game is running, the game hangs up with a rapid audio loop. In worst case, the game also crashes after the hang-up has passed.
I have not been able to localize what has been causing these hang-ups, as they are not listed in the event manager at all.
I will also not purchase any additional third party software to track the source of the hang-ups, as I have already paid 1300 Euros for this notebook. If it has defect parts, I will be taking it back to the store I purchased it at for a full refund.
I would however, prefer to find what is causing the issue so that a solution can be found not only for myself, but all users who have a Qosmio with the same symptoms.
*edit* I have begun to check the hard drive with the HD Tune free version. After 25 minutes, the Temperature went from 42 degrees Celcius to 56 degrees. I do expect the drive to heat up during an intensive disc and error-check, but I thought I would include all information that could be relevant to finding the solution here as well.
The HD Check completed successfully with no indication that the Hard Drives have any problems. The heat also returned to 42 degrees after the test completed.

I have the same problem with my Qosmio X300 (PQX32E-04H02WGR). Anytime I'm playing games there is a blackscreen and a tuneloop.
I wrote a email to the toshiba-service in germany and they told me to make a new installation of windows, to install the new bios 2.1 and the new beta driver from nvidia. Even this all did not solve the problem.
So I ring up the german hotline and they told me that there is nothing more to do and that they don't know that problem. They sayed I could try playing the games in a reduced resolution and perhaps this could solve the problem!!!??? Yes... I buy a very expensive gamer-notebook to play with it in a reduced resolution - nice idear.
After I told them that I think it could be an overheating-problem they want to get the notebook to find it out on my own risk (I have to pay a service-charge if it is no overheating problem).
    We will see...

  • JRockit freezes/hangs under heavy load

We have a problem with JRockit freezing/hanging when under heavy load.
It does not crash, but it looks like it is spinning on the CPU. The CPU
is a XEON with hyper threading, so it is viewed as two CPUs on our linux
    host.
Any advice on options to apply for further debugging on the issue?
    Here is the scenario:
    a) suddenly, CPU goes up to 50% and stays there (looks like JRockit is
spinning/busy looping on the one "cpu")
    b) while spinning at 50% CPU, the heap keeps growing until it hits max
    c) the application and JRockit stops responding (but it does not crash)
    d) There is no information on stdout or stderr. Also no information in
    weblogic.log
    The setup is:
    * BEA WebLogic 5.1
    * SuSE Linux 9.0 (*not* enterprise linux)
    * Kernel: 2.4.21_166, SMP 4G
    * JRockit v26.4.0.63 (JDK 1.4.2_11)
    * XEON 3GHz with HT
    * JAVA_OPTIONS="-jrockit -Xms512m -Xmx512m
    -Djrockit.ctrlbreak.enableforce_crash=true"
Has anyone else experienced this or things like it? I've found many
issues about JRockit crashes (which actually gives some information to
work with), but our process is not crashing. It just freezes/hangs and
    uses a lot of CPU.

We have exactly the same problem on our Windows servers, also Dual core Xeon, running Windows Server 2003 SP 1, with 2Gb physical RAM. We have two Windows servers behind Cisco load balancers.
When we get this problem, CPU and memory usage seems normal. The Throughput graph in Monitoring -> Performance flat lines at zero, the Queue length goes up by the second and the Garbage collection graph flat lines at whatever value it was at when the service appeared to hang.
The Java memory settings are: -Xms512m -Xmx1024m
Can anyone help, please? I have had to manually restart the services on both servers about 10 times so far this morning! This is unusual, but we do have an unsually heavy load this morning.
    Many thanks

  • P45 Neo3-FR Freezing/lock ups in Windows

    Specs:
    P45 Neo3-FR using 1.3 BIOS
    E8400 w/ Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
    2x1GB GSkill 1066Mhz RAM
    EVGA 8800GT 512MB
    Cosair HX520W PSU
    Antec Nine Hundred case
    2x SATA HDD
    1x DVDRW
    Windows XP SP3
I'm having random freezing/lock ups in Windows.  It can happen anywhere between 1 minute to 5+ hours.  It's completely random, doesn't matter what I'm doing.
I have the latest chipset and nVidia drivers.
    Memtest passes 8+ hours
    Orthos passes 3+ hours
I've cleared the CMOS and loaded optimized defaults
I've tried both IDE and AHCI
What happens is everything just freezes, I can't move the mouse and can't ctrl-alt-del.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Update:  I switched to BIOS 1.2 and so far everything seems OK, though I lost the option to change the command rate on the RAM.  I'll post back in a couple of days or if it happens to lock up again.

Reduce memory clock speed to 800 MHz in BIOS, set Memory voltage to 1.9-1.95V and retest.

  • Photoshop CC and Photoshop 6 Freezing/Hanging

Ok so I have read many threads on this topic and none have been an answer to my problem.
This happens on MacPro with 2 x 2.4Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 24GB of 1066 MHZ DDR3 Ram and an 512Gig SSD, freshly formatted and Photoshop CC loaded and running without any other apps. I also use a Wacom Intuos 5 touch M with driver 6.3.6w3. I also have 3 x iMac 27" top current spec SSD and 32Gig Ram and wacom tablets, Intuos 3 and 4.
This problem occurs normally when selecting a brush to work on a layer mask (size of brush not relevant), once the freeze occurs, the cursor can still be moved around however a brush mark isn't registered. To exit this freezed state it is necessary to click on another application (preferably the finder) and return to photoshop in order to snap it back in to action. Sometimes this problem has to be repeated 2 or 3 times. It doesn't appear to make any difference what size the image is. Often if I open up a flat jpg, grab the clone stamp tool and start to work, there are no marks registered. Once the freeze/hang is exited often the previous brush marks appear altogether. This seems to happen all too regularly, maybe every 15 mins or so, but never consistently spaced out
I have tried all of the things below to solve it:-
    1. No 3rd party plug ins running.
    2. Ample scratch disk space on second internal Sata drive (500Gb)
    3. GPU settings changed to Basic
    4. I don't have a third button on my pen to turn off
    5. Wiped and re-installed OS X 10.8.4, reinstalled photoshop
    6. Made history states greater and less
    7. Turned Autosave off and save in background
    8. Regenerated new Preferences
I have looked into Activity viewer when this happens and nothing seems obviously wrong. Please help as I thought is was a bug in CS6 so upgrading to CC was looking very attractive until the same problem happens here too.
    HELP! HELP! HELP!

Curt, I have a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB in the Mac Pro, the iMac have NVIDIA GeForce GTS 680MX 2048Mb.
Why would it happen on all of these machines though if they have different video cards?
    Very Puzzled!
