App store hang-ups

I've only had my iPad for a week but have already had a couple of problems with the app store. This morning, when I tried to download a couple of apps, the waiting box would just show up on the home screen with a blank loading bar. The same was true for an update I tried to install. Similarly, last week at the app store, anytime I tried to navigate somewhere I would just get a white screen with "Loading" and the spinning rays with no progress. In both cases, things seemed back to normal 15 minutes later or so. Also, in both cases, there were no problems with my wifi - I checked that. Are these kinds of hang ups and freezes normal for the store, or could there be some sort of problem with my iPad causing this?

I did a reset, which didn't immediately solve anything. The problem just disappeared about 15 minutes after it started. I wouldn't think it's a hardware problem since other apps and Internet connectivity all seemed to be working at top speed while the app store problem was happening. I guess I was curious if other people had experienced app problems in their time with their ipads.

  • App Store hangs (not responding)

I am trying to use the App Store to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Mountain Lion (10.8). When I open the App Store and sign in using my Apple ID, I can click on the "OS X Mountain Lion" link. This shows a new page with a button that says $19.99. When I click that button, the button changes to "Buy App". When I click the Buy App button, the App Store hangs with the spinning ball icon after about 20 seconds. I left it alone for over 2 hours, and it remained hung. I have searched user forums and tried a few things. Nothing has worked. Here are some things I have tried, with no success.
+ turned off Spotlight (some forums mentioned that was an issue)
+ unplugged my external USB drive for Time Machine backups
    + re-booted into safe mode
+ removed all directories inside /var/folders
    + removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
    + removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    + removed ~/Library/Application\ Support/AppStore
    + removed ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
    + removed ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
    + removed ~/Library/Caches/storeagent
I asked Apple support, and they said, "You must upgrade to Lion first, then Mountain Lion, but unfortunately Lion is not available for download. Please visit your local Apple store for help." So, I drove out to the nearest Apple store. The assistant there told me it is NOT necessary to upgrade to Lion first. They asked me to bring my iMac into the store to have a look.. what a hassle. So I replied back to Apple support, who then asked me to call their support number. I called, then hung up when they said "this call will cost you $20".
Anyone out there smart enough to solve this puzzle?

No, there is no direct download link. Those are days of the past, I'm afraid. You may need to reinstall Mavericks.
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • APP STORE HANGS

I notice since last update that the app store hangs forever and the rainbow circle stay on and then it crashes.

    Hi,
Install the v10.6.7 combo update available here.
It includes "Address various minor Mac App Store bugs" *that may help that were not included in the original v10.6.7 update.*
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.

  • Mac App Store hanges

I installed 10.6.6 and the App store hanges I am unable to perches apps. I am loged in on my account but when I hit the buy button I get the spinning colored wheel and that's it. I have to force quit App store to get out. I have a early 09 MacBook Pro.
Any suggestions? I did uninstall and reinstall the App store but still the same problem.

    Hi,
    Install the v10.6.6 Combo Updae
    Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

  • App store hangs after Mavericks

After installing the upgrade to Mavericks on my early 2011 MacBook Pro with 8Meg RAM and 750Gb HD, App Store hangs. Any clues. Tried the usual solutions, like repairing permissions, checking disk integrity etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • App Store hangs on install attempt

Whenever I click an "install" or "buy" button in the App Store, the App hangs forever and fails to respond to any input, forcing a Force Quit. I've tried repairing permissions, rebooting, zapping the PRAM, and installing the 10.6.6 combo update on top of the existing update.
This problem surfaced as soon as I updated to 10.6.6. I initially rebooted a couple times, left the problem alone, and it went away unexpectedly. Now it seems to be back... only this time, it's apparently personal.
I've also had problems attempting to load Final Cut Studio 2 apps, which hang on startup and fail to launch any windows. I mention it here because I ran across a poster suffering through issues with his pro apps who was also experienced the App Store hanging on purchases. That can be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12907935#12907935
I don't know if those two are connected, but I've tried virtually everything (permissions, PRAM, trashing preferences) barring reinstalling the OS back to 10.6.5 to completely remove the App Store. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I tried a bunch of solutions, including resetting my password, to no avail. Since I was also having trouble with Final Cut Studio apps, I decided to wipe my hard drive, do a clean install of 10.6 and apply the 10.6.6 combo update. App Store now installs items without hanging.
The average person probably won't want to clean-install their whole system. However, I recommend anyone updating from 10.6.5 to use the Combo Update instead of updating via Software Update. It's a pain in the tuckus, but it seems to be consistently safer. You can find the combo update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
Update: I've also heard that having your Boot Camp partition mounted can cause a hang. I've had a couple hangs since updating, and I can confirm that unmounting the Boot Camp partition helps alleviate them.

  • App Store hanging on upgrade to Mountain Lion from 10.6.8

I've got a Mac Pro (shown as version 3,1 in System Profiler) which is running 10.6.8 Server and I'm trying to get it to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Unfortunately when I click on the "Buy App" button - or even if I click on the "Updates" button - the App Store application spins the progress icon for a little bit, but then hangs with the basketball of death. In the end I have to force-quit it - even leaving it for several hours doesn't help.
I've tried booting the Mac in to safe mode, resetting the NVRAM and similar - all to no avail. The host can reach the internet with no issues - I can see the initial app page, find the Mac OSX Mountain Lion page, etc. Its only after I've clicked the button to purchase the software that it hangs. I've tried booting it into the Apple Hardware Test, via holding down D at bootup, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.
Anyone got any ideas of how to proceed from here ? I've got a sinking feeling that the host will end up just staying at 10.6.8!

Thanks for poking me to look at the console logs! That led me to find the error message:
    App Store[762] <Error>: CGBitmapContextGetBitsPerComponent: invalid context 0x112f90060
Which in turn pointed me to https://discussions.apple.com/message/15431640#15431640
Renabling Spotlight (see http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/10/disable-or-enable-spotlight-in-mac-os-x-lion/ ) allowed the App Store to work again!
Just why the App Store requires Spotlight to work is beyond me.

  • Downloading from Apple Mountain Lion App Store Hangs 2901 router

    Cisoers,
I have a repating 2901 router failure when people attempt to download Apple Mac OS X Moutnain Lion upgrade from App Store.
The 2901 just hangs following getting a series of ZBFW packet drop failures:
    001928: Jul 26 22:37:18.783 UTC: %APPFW-4-HTTP_PROTOCOL_VIOLATION: HTTP protocol violation (0) detected - session 192.168.223.109:49310 184.25.254.67:80 on zone-pair ZP-PRIVATE-OUT class ccp-protocol-http appl-class ccp-http-blockparam

    001930: Jul 26 22:37:22.779 UTC: %FW-6-DROP_PKT: Dropping tcp session 192.168.223.130:49217 184.31.204.244:443 on zone-pair ZP-PRIVATE-OUT class ccp-insp-traffic due to  Stray Segment with ip ident 0
The failure results in the ACT Light stopping to blink and the SYS Light remains on solid Green and the entire router hangs.
I cannot SSH to it, all logging to console stops and the only way I can recover the router is by powering it off and on again.
This is very alarming as this is a very common download site and I am finding router is hanging consistently and repeatly when people go there.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
This looks like a major bug in IOS.
    Regards,
    John.

    Hi Peter,
thanks very much for the suggestion.
I did a check on the 2901 and the config has very small (default) allocations:
    parameter-map type ooo global
    tcp reassembly timeout 5
    tcp reassembly queue length 16
    tcp reassembly memory limit 1024
    tcp reassembly alarm off
As per your suggestion I have update the sizes (the 2901 has 2GB RAM) moved HTTP application inspection back up to it overides straight tcp protocol inspection.
    parameter-map type ooo global
       tcp reassembly timeout 5
       tcp reassembly queue length 512
       tcp reassembly memory limit 16384
       tcp reassembly alarm off
I have a couple of further Apple Mac's that need to be updated to Mountain Lion so will test download again when updating these machines.
    Cheers,
    John.

  • App Store hangs when trying to download

    Hi,
I bought Mountain Lion from the App Store this morning, I click Download then the App Store just hangs. I left it for an hour with no luck and no change, the spinning wheel will appear at the top. But nothing else will happen.
    Thanks for you help,

    Hi,
My firewall is turned on, but is set to Allow Incomming Connections from the App Store. Just to be safe I turned the firewall off and tried to download the OS again. But to no success. I also don't have any of those apps installed on my imac.
    Thanks again,

  • How can I stop App Store pop-ups every time I use my iPhone?

It seems like every time I turn on my iPhone 4S lately, there is a window asking me if I would like to go to the App Store.  I have to click "OK" or "Cancel" before I can use the iPhone.  Extremely annoying.

Actually, now that it's happened again (several times) I see that it actually says "iTunes store", not "App Store".

  • App Store hanging?? Not the Amazon one in case anyone is confused!

Is anyone else noticing the app store running slow or being unresponsive at the moment.
Clicking update all for a couple of apps led to a delay of 30 secs before prompting for a password. Now entered but apps are still waiting.
Tried reseting iPad still not joy.
Clicking in the charts on the show more option does nothing initially and after 3-4 attempts it finally loads the next 10 items.

My app store on ipad has been running slow ever since I updated to whatever version was multi-task-able. I've updated and restarted, emptied my multi-task app cache, etc. Nothing has fixed this problem. It seems to be getting slower everytime I update the ipad software. I see there has been an answer to this question but this does not apply to me. It is a problem every time I open the app store app. Anyone else in this situ?

  • Mac app store keeps crashing on OSX 10.6.8

I can open and browse the Mac App store on my MBP but as soon as I try to download any apps the App Store hangs and I have to use Force Quit to shut it down.  I have tried all the suggestions I have read elsewhere including deleting all the plist files from the library, repairing permissions, starting in safe mode, deleting the app store app and copying it across from my iMac where it runs perfectly but without success.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
That will reinstall the Mac App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8.
