HP App Catalog/ Account Security on the Touchpad

I recently changed credit card numbers on my App Store account. Not long after I had a fraudulent purchase show up on my bank account from another online vendor. It may just be a coincidence, but it has me wondering. Just how secure is the Touchpad for online transactions and App store account info? I cannot find any documentation about security in my searches through HP stuff or on any forums. Any thoughts?

I have a question about the App Catalog.  Why is my touchpad asking for my social security number when I'm setting up my credit card info?  I have an android phone and Google never asked for it when I set up my Android Market account.  I can still down load free WebOS apps but I'm not sure I want my SS# floating out in cyber space...  Can anyone tell me of a work around for this?

    If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
    Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
    Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
    You can figure out using it with another machine from that too

  • App catalog: unable to add payment account, error PMT03043

    I'm unable to add a payment/billing account for my touchpad. Trying "Preferences & Accounts" in the HP App Catalog menu gives error "Action could not be completed. Try again later" -> "Retry" but this error dialog never goes away on re-trying. So it's stuck at this point. Only way to exit is to card this screen and swipe it away. So how does one add a payment/billing account ? In the "Help" topic about setting up billing account, the Help manual says, "...try to buy an app -> click purchase -> add credit card" but when I try to purchase an app, an error dialog pops up "App catalog could not complete the last action you performed. Try again later. PMT03043". Later, found that PMT03043 error means "No data for Catalog country for device". My HP Touchpad is set to "US" as the country. Why this error when catalog country is already set to US? Could somebody please check their working TP (able to add payment accounts and buy from HP app catalog) and provide some suggestions ? Thanks. I'd like to buy some apps!

    Also, found "com.palm.service.payment" empty folder, and "com.palm.payment.service" folder with code in it. So which of these is supposed to be the proper valid payment service ? Can any of the devs here help? I guess one of these services is not running so the error pops up? Help please. Aren't there some official HP support/devs on this forum ?

  • Why can't I access the app catalog?

    I have a Verizon palm Pre Plus and when I try to access the app catalog I get this:
    The action could not be completed. Try again later.
    When I go online and send the app to my phone and then use my phone to click the link it gives me this same message again.
    My phone is fully updated to the latest OS. I should add that before I updated to the latest OS I was at least able to install apps when sending them to my phone though I wasn't able to access the app store via the phone.
    So what can I do? I have a new palm pre plus that doesn't allow me to get apps....

    I have restarted the phone multiple times which did not help but I just tried the restore erase data feature and now I do have access to the app store but a new problem has arrived. I can't download anything. The progress bar states that it is downloading but nothing happens and the bar shows zero progress. I've tried this with multiple apps and avenn bought a cheap app and still this happens. The phone can sit for 10 minutes and nothing downloads.
    I should add that I have full signal bars and the 3g logo is lit up.
    My next step when I get home is to use webOS doctor and see if I can fix the OS.
    I'm starting to wish I just bought the Motorola droid...

    I can only see free apps in my app cataglog...I don't see any apps I can buy.
    My husband has the same phone and he shows free apps and apps he can buy in his app catalog.
    I have v1.0 Beta and he has v1.0.0
    How can I get my app catalog to show both the free apps and apps that I can buy?

  • Applicaton Catalog - "Cannot connect to the application server" - Existing solutions have not worked

    Hi there,
    I have researched the problem below extensively online and found quite a varies array of solutions offered however they all seem to relate to the problem in that someone was setting up SCCM but couldn't get it to work. My situation is different in that the
    feature was working, no settings were changed however it has now stopped working.
    The issue is that if any user attempts to use the app catalog, they are shown the error screen which says "Cannot connect to the application server". It then says the problem might be temporary, try again later etc however it's not temporary.
    All the settings for the app catalog appear to be correct, as I would expect them to be as it was working (I am new to this company, the Desktop manager has told me it was working a few weeks ago).
    Does anyone know of a service in Windows, maybe something to do with the SQL side or certificates that could cause this issue? (although I checked certificates and again, looks fine). I'm almost at the point now of just restarting the server because
    if all else fails, turn it off and on again right?

    Hi, I just typed a long reply to this and then accidentally clicked a favourite on the Favourites bar and lost everything I typed :(
    -Checked the path in IIS to the \SMS_CCM\CMApplicationCatalog folder was OK and it was.
    -Checked that required .NET components including WCF are installed.
    -This one seemed a bit strange but ensured local service account has access to C:\Windows\Temp (this seemed very basic and unlikely but I tried it anyway due to desperation).
    -Checked that self-signed certificate was trusted by my PC attempting to access the App Catalog.
    -Checked SCCM services on the server are all running (where they should be, or set to manual as appropriate).
    I'm sure I've tried more than this, but these are the main things I can remember.

  • Problem with Mail & Google Apps email account

    I have three personal Gmail accounts, and a Google Apps email account provided by the Open University. I've set these four accounts up in Mail to use IMAP.
    My three personal accounts work as expected, no problems there. Apparently – I'm still waiting for confirmation of this from the OU – it's only possible to send email from the Google Apps account if I use the web interface, not Mail or any other email client. This account is only accessible from my student home page which has its own login with unique user name and password; trying to log in with the same details via the usual Gmail login dialog doesn't work. However, before I learned this I tested the setup by sending email, with Mail, from my Google Apps account to each of my personal accounts, and all three emails seemed to arrive correctly.
    On seeing my name as the sender I assumed everything was o.k. and didn't check to see which actual address showed as the sender. A few days later on finding problems and repeating the test I was surprised to find that the mails had been sent from the first personal Gmail account I set up in Mail, not from the account I had specified. This is a massive security breach that gives scope for abuse and fraud, but is it by Mail or Google? If I can't send from the account I was trying to use I should receive an error message to tell me of a problem, not be deceived silently into thinking that everything was working properly when it wasn't.
    Has anyone experienced this, with Mail or another email client and Google Apps or another service? I'd really appreciate any comments and views about this behaviour because it worries me.

    I've established for certain that Google only provide a web interface for Google Apps products, it says so in the first paragraph of the Google Apps SLA. Trying to set up sending from a Google Apps account with an email client will only get you the hassle, waste of time and headache that I've had. Google don't say this anywhere that I've found in Gmail help or the marketing stuff about Google Apps; it's up to the buyer of the service either read the SLA for themselves, or for an organisation buying it for their people to tell them clearly that they have to use the web interface, there's no other option. I've read some other posts here on this subject, those people have been just as frustrated and annoyed as I have.
    How I deal with Google – I assume it's the provider and not the software – diverting my emails, is another question. My email provider diverts its customers' emails without telling the customer. The potential for fraud and abuse is obvious but what can be done about it? Can anything be done about it? Apart from anything else, I want the service. It's free at point of use, but it's not free really, nothing ever is, but if I paid for it could I be sure this wouldn't or couldn't happen. Welcome to the 21st century. I've taken it up with the Open University as the provider of my Google Apps account; I'm going to write to my MP (I'm in UK) or an appropriate regulatory body if there is one, and see where it might go from there.

    The best defense for keeping your Mac secure is YOU.  Honestly, I will not tell you to not get software but YOU are the best way to stay safe. I myself have never used any software on my personal computers personally.
    rules to remember:
    Don't:
    Open any e-mails from an unknown sender
    Open any e-mails that have attachments unless that person is in your contacts...BUT, this one can be tricky as well.  If one of your contacts gets infected, their computer could send an email (with an attachment) to everyone in their contact list.  This is a trick to get you to open the attachment because you know the sender.  So always check for really generic subject lines that sound fake, call them if you are not sure.
    Click on any of those intrusive ads on websites.
    Careful downloading software from the Internet that you are not sure about.  Always do your research.
    if you do decide to get software, I can safely say DO NOT GET MACKEEPER.  STAY AWAY.  I have heard only horror stories about this software. 
    Keep your Network safe, make sure if youuse an open WiFi connection to LOCK it.

    Some of my apps are used on my old apple ID but then I lost my bank card visa had to get a new one then the transactions went thru that I made on my old apple ID and now it asks me to update my billing info cause I had got a new card and I tried doing that but it wouldn't accept my security code (the three numbers on the back of the card so I had to make a new account and that new account accepted the new card just fine so it wasn't the cards problem and now I can't update my apps used on the old APPLE ID because it wants me to pay off the transactions I made on that account but I can't pay it off cause it wont accept my new card.. So i don't know what to do. Can't just delete the apps cause one of em has a bunch of my music on it and te other that needs updating is too big of a file to redownload since I have no Internet now and the iPhone only lets you download 20mb or lower apps without wifi

    You might actually get help if you punctuate and form proper sentences.  Why don't you spend a little bit of time and recompose your post using proper sentence structure and using punctuation.

  • I would like to delete an account and all the iPhone apps associated with that account off my mac.

    A friend of mine bought an iPhone 4 back in Febuary 2011 (pre-iCloud). At the time of her purchase, she was without a computer, so I allowed her to back her iPhone up to my MBP.
    Since iCloud, she has no need to use my MBP for backups, restores, etc. Plus she lives 40 miles away. Her apps are still on my MBP and I have been updating them when needed, however I no longer need to have her account OR apps on my MBP.
    How can I be rid of all her info and apps from my iTunes. I do have access to her account, with permission.

    If by account you mean a user account then open Users & Groups preferences, select her account, click on the Delete [-] button. Choose the last option to fully remove the account. Do not check the box for Secure Erase.

    Ask Apple to re-enable it. I had an unauthorized purchase last October. They disabled my account until the problem was solved. However, I asked them to reopen it, and they just asked me to provide some security information (billing address, a recent purchase you made, etc.), and then they re-enabled it.
