Remove the battery, connect power and try to switch it on.
Let us know if you see any blinking bights on the computer or hear any beeps.

I can't Install My Photoshop 7 again. The setup.exe file seems dead. The CD looks fine.
I reinstalled a fresh version of Win. XP Pro Sp3 and it wiped out several of my programs so I've been re-installing them. Of course I lost the registry and have to build a new one by reinstalling my programs. But my Photoshop 7 CD seems to have a dead setup.exe file and it will not respond as it used to. I've tried everything including disabling virus program. I don't know what else to do. Maybe I need a new setup.exe file but I have no idea where I could get one.
Yes, I do have a registered product. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks, Judi

Thank you so much for your suggestion R_Kelly.
Yes, I had tried copying the contents of the installation disk to both my external Seagate drive and right onto the C: drive, itself, but with no success.
But I just experienced a miracle and it installed like butter - to my utter amazement.  I will share my experience in case someone comes along with a similar problem and maybe my situation will help them.
When I installed the "rescue disk" to replace my entire OS on my laptop, the techs had given me some choices in options which I really didn't know how to choose from, and I was a professional IT person in the late 90's. That's where I got into trouble. What I wanted to do was just overwrite my Windows XP Pro SP3, like we could do back in the "old days" when computers were open-source and not all proprietary. When I selected to delete the current Windows partition to make room for the new installation, apparently it also deleted the registry and my computer had no knowledge of the programs I had installed and I had to reinstall just about everything.   I thought I was okay with that.
In the process of finally installing the new Windows OS, I was asked to give my computer a "name."  Well, I don't recall that I ever gave it a name before and there was no place for me to go to find out. So, I gave it a name "JudiLenova."  When I couldn't get my programs to run, I thought that maybe I had not only lost my Registry file but maybe whatever ini files I had left didn't recognize that name, so I changed it to "Judi," still not recalling what, if any, name I had given it before.  As I encountered problems with trying to install Photoshop, I looked at my systems directories and saw that there were equal files in two different pathways, one for each name. I wondered if maybe DOS, which can't make decisions, couldn't decide which path was the right one to find files I needed. I sure regretted not using the "repair" option on the rescue disk, but it was too late. I need this computer to operate using all of the tools I have installed on it.
I bought a powerful fixit program recommended by CNET to fix things and it found over 1400 problems, but still nothing fixed this problem.
One thing I had noticed is that sometimes when I would do a restart of the computer, the Windows Installer would suddenly show up to finish the Photoshop install, but then it would stop initializing because of the restart. (So close, and yet so far away!)  I knew the old system was long gone and stupidly I had deleted the full backup I had stored on the Seagate, so I looked at the "restore" option to see what setpoints there were to see if maybe I could roll back to an earlier time. The only restore point I had was for the day I had installed the rescue disk. I said "what the heck" and opted to roll it back. When I made that selection, I got the message that the major change would be that the computer name would be changed from "Judi" to "JudiLenova."  I thought that might solve some of my problem. Amazingly, it appears to have solved the Photoshop problem because I put the disk back into my D: drive and off she went without a hitch!
My hunch is that DOS couldn't find the Install Shield to enable the installation. Whatever the cause of the miracle, I'm grateful that I didn't toss my computer in the lake outside my window... but it sure was tempting.
Thank you again for your attempts to rescue me. I hope this helps the next guy who comes along.  Now I'm going to try to install all the rest of my beloved old Adobe programs and everything else.   Fingers crossed!
    Judi :-)

  • [solved] Laptop seems to "hang up" when trying to suspend2

I finally got a new notebook, a Thinkpad X60. Today I tried to switch from vanilla- to suspend2-kernel (the one that I had running on my old notebook as well). When trying to "hibernate", I get output on the console until "Doing atomic copy." Then the laptop seems to hang up and does nothing for ages. But when I change to another console and back, the computer turns off... I don't know why.
Starting the system again results in resuming the image - so it seems it has been correctly writen on my swap-device. But the console I come back to on resuming is unusable! I see the output made by 'hibernate' and a prompt. But I don't get an outpu if I type something. Typing blind, something as 'exit' or 'reset' doesn't work either.
    What's wrong there?

I Don't know if I can turn it of or do I just leave it and take it to service?
    I'd appreciate some advice!

Same thing happened here ~ tech guy at a local authorized Apple repair store said it had something to do with improper backup from which the restore would be made. Still have a phone that asks to be connected to Itunes but won't do anything else . . . frustrated.

  • Do you "defrag" apple computers like other computers? My laptop seems to be running slow, and someone suggested defrag to get rid of "cookies"

Do you "defrag" apple computers like other computers? My laptop seems to be running slow, and someone suggested I defrag it to get rid of "cookies" that can slow it down.

You are confusing two different things.
RAM is memory, not hard drive space.
To see how much free space you have open any Finder window and it will tell you at the bottom of the window.
Or you can look in Disk Utility.

  • 5800 touch seems dead

    hello
I am the, until now, content owner of a 5800 xpressmusic phone, however, when i woke up this morning the touchscreen seemed dead, for lack of better term. I could tap it all i wanted it just didnt respond to it. So i decided to try and restart it... only to find out that it still didnt respond... or that i  sometimescould press it once and then it would freeze again. So any suggestions to what i could do? I have tried to remove the memorycard and start it up without it, with the same outcome.

this is typically a problem related with the touch screen HARDWARE, mainly caused because of humidity or free fall of the phone, but a free fall can't affect the touch screen that much as humidity. Don't even bother erasing your files for any of the memories don't even try to uninstall any application or hard reset, believe me at 99% it won't help you out. What you have to do now is to buy a new touch screen or if you still have a guaranty for your phone then go to nokia care.
    Let me know it.

  • MacBook Pro 15" (late 2008) seems dead. Faulty product?

    Hello,
I am actually not very happy right now. My MBP died yesterday morning. I closed the lid the night before, like I have been doing for 1,5 years, and the next day, I opened it and it stayed black. I heard the HDD boot up, I even added a CD to test if my keyboard was still reacting. Nothing seemed more true.
That's where the problem started. I was (and am still) getting annoyed with this. Since I'm quite sure Apple laptops, with or without warranty, should survive 1,5 years of normal yet intensive use. I think we're dealing with a faulty product here. Apple's procedures, which I am happily following, require an investigation which seem to cost me 80 euros. I've called with Apple Support and they promised me a free investigation (probably just to tell me that the Logic board is dead, which costs 800 euros if I'm correct...). Today, I tried to bring it to a service point but was told that they couldn't promise me that the research would be free... So I kept the laptop, I'm not willing to take that risk just now, and called back. Angry.
Now I have been postponed to monday, because the supervisor wasn't there.
What's your take on this? I do not feel I am being treated correctly. Anyone have any pointers or experiences that kind of match this? How did you solve this? Talk please.
    Yours faithfully,
    Bjorn Schijff

eww, I'd very nearly classify my MBP as 1.5 years old. I got it in early November 2008, very close to 16 months ago. In fact, I think it will be 16 months ago tomorrow.
Anyway, I think it's likely that our poster here may have a unibody MBP. Bjorn, does your MBP look like the ones at http://www.apple.com/macbookpro ? Or does it have an all-silver keyboard?
If it does not look like the current generation, then you have an older, non-unibody MBP. In that case, your problem may be covered under the special circumstances surrounding the 8600M GT graphics card in that generation of MBPs.
If it does look like the current generation, then I'm afraid you may be on the hook for the repairs. But, have you tried something simple like an SMC/PRAM reset?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
There is unfortunately nothing we can do if the computer fails after 1.5 years and you do not have Applecare. It is the exact same thing as with any other electronic product. If the product fails after the warranty period ends, well, sometimes it is just bad luck. I think your comments about faulty products and such are misfounded. There are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of MBPs or Powerbooks out there that go (and have gone) 10+ years without any problems. Some do not. It is just the nature of anything electronic we buy right now.

  • WRT54G Ver. 2 (Blinking Lights, Router seems dead)

I am trying to revive my WRT54G V. 2 router. When I power the router on, the power light, two of the connection lights, and internet light are all blinking. I can get internet fine through the router to my main PC which is plugged in to port 1 via ethernet cable. However:
    - The other PC connected to my router via ethernet cable does not recieve a connection.
    - The router's wireless network is not showing up on any wireless connection list.
    - The router's default gateway seems to have changed from 192.168.1.1 to 66.27.200.1. It has always been 192.168.1.1 for the whole time I have owned it. In the past, when I reset the router it would reset to 192.168.1.1. Now it stays at 66.27.200.1.
    - I cannot access the router maintainance page through 192.168.1.1 or 66.27.200.1, it gives me "Page load Error on firefox".
    - I cannot -ping the router in CMD, either using 192.168.1.1, the old default gateway, nor 66.27.200.1, the new default gateway, it simply gives me "request timed out". When I try to ping it within seconds of rebooting the router, it gives me hardware error for both gateways as well.
The issue started when I held down the reset button for the router for 30 secs to reset to system default. After this I cycled the power to the router. When I turned it back on, it had a new IP (66.27.200.1) and I could not access the maintainance page nor see the wireless network on any laptop/PS3. The first port to my main PC still works which gives me reason to believe the router itself might not be dead...but the other port(s) do not work nor does the wireless network.
Is my router dead? Any suggestions as to how to fix this issue are welcome.

First of all make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...If your computer is set to Obtain IP Address Automatically then,
Your router's NAT must not be working, to make sure your router is not defective you should hard reset your router for a minute...
To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 1 minute...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 1 minute and re-connect the power cable...Check the IP Address on your computer...If your desktop computer reports an IP Address of 192.168.1.x then you should be able to re-configure your router...If your computer reports the same IP Address 66.27.200.1(or similar) then your router may be defective and you need to get a new one...

  • Inspire P580 PSU seems dead

    Hello!
I need some help. I've got an Inspire P580 Speaker set from a friend but it seems that the power supply is dead. I tested the kit with my P380's PSU justo to see if it was in fact from the PSU and the kit worked, but as would be expected, poorly since the difference in power output from the PSUs is there.
So, my question is where do I get a new PSU to the P580 ?
    Thanks!

If it's an external power supply. The answer is YES!

  • Windows 8 reset failed, my laptop seems to work but the performance isn't the same and refresh/reset isn't possible anymore

My problem started when I found a trojan (win32/skeeyah.B!plock) in my computer. Both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes detected it and claimed to remove it, but to be sure it was gone (I read online that it's hard to get rid of that one) I decided to perform a reset. I chose the deep reset option, it took about 5 hours to reach 92%, and then I got a message that the reset had failed. It gave me some options, and I chose to repair windows so I could keep using my machine. I had to set it all up again, like windows was really installed again. It seems to be working fine but it's a bit sluggish, and it bothers me that the reset failure might have left some broken files.
After testing it for a while, my only problem other than sluggishness was that I couldn't install google chrome ("Clickonce_bootstrap.exe - system error" was the message I got when the installation failed) but it bothered me enough to want to perform a refresh, to fix anything that might have been left broken. When I tried to do this, I got a message asking me if I trusted the source of the files that were attempting to perform changes on my computer, and listed my own hard drive as the source. I chose to trust it, and then I got a message telling me that the files needed to perform the refresh weren't in my computer, so I was prompted to insert the install disks. They didn't come with my laptop (Dell Inspiron), but I saved the installation files into a usb stick before doing the reset (Using Dell Recovery and Back Up), so I inserted the usb, and it told me that these weren't the right files. After that, my only option was "Cancel". Same thing happened for both refresh and reset.
Like I said, the computer seems to be functional, but I'm afraid the system might be unstable and crash on me randomly. Is there anything I can do?

Do not reinstall Windows 8, it is obsolete. Instead make installation media for Windows 8.1 with Update 1:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/download-windows-8-1-retail-and-oem-iso/
The only problem is selecting the correct edition likely Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Single Language.
    Use DISKPART → CLEAN ALL:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/cleaning-up-a-drive-format-vs-secure-wipe-ssd-and-hdd/
Then install Windows 8.1 with update 1 directly:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/a-clean-install-of-windows-8-1/windows-8-1-installation/
You can install with a local account, then install the system drivers in the correct order:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/driver-installation/
If you need help identifying variants provide hardware IDs:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/checking-hardware-ids-in-the-device-manager/
After installation of the drivers you may then install Dell Backup and Recovery the latest version is here:
    http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02909509M/1/Backup-and-Recovery_Application_64M9D_WN32_1.8.1.71_A00.EXE
This will create a new recovery partition on your system that is Windows 8.1 with Update 1. You may then switch for a Microsoft Account.

  • My laptop is dead and I need to remote access my files, is this possible?

I'm at my parent's place for the weekend and I forgot to bring my charger, I have an essay to finish for Monday but my laptop it completely dead! Is there any way i can remote access my files on their desktop?

yes, but I'm sure you won't do that.
take off back cover from MBP
    detach HD
    download fresh Ubuntu Live CD
    burn it
install Mac HD into desktop. Be careful to not short circut something.
    find USB stick
    you're ready.
    boot from Ubuntu live
go to Macintosh HD - Users - your user - documents
    find needed document there
    insert USB stick
    copy document to it
    shutdown
remove Mac HD from PC, set it back to mac
    reboot Pc, remove ubuntu DVD
find your documents on USB stick.
sure you want all that mess?

  • I installed Snow Leopard on my white Macbook 4,1 and purchased the Mountain Lion to upgrade again. Now it says not compatible and won't load. Required specs on my laptop seemed fine but? Any ideas what to try?

I ordered Snow Leopard and received the disk from Apple. It loaded fine in my white Macbook 4 ,1 that has 4GB memory, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.1 GHZ processor and L2Cache 3mb. Decided to upgrade once more to Mountain Lion (skipped Lion) and purchased the download directly from Apple. This morning I downloaded and when it went to install a screen appeared stating my laptop wasn't compatible. From what I had researched before purchasing Mountain Lion it seemed this laptop was fine. Do I need to purchase LION before trying to install Mountain Lion? Otherwise what could be wrong? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    1. If desired, go to the online Apple Store and ask for a refund.
    2. Click here and see the lists of new and dropped features.
