HP OfficeJet 8500 and Mobile Broadband

Has anyone used OfficeJet Wireless 8500 and Mobile Broadband?  If so, what router did you use or would recommend.  Small Office, less than 15 feet in any direction.  Could not get a simple G router to work.  Thanks!

Did a help desk ever ask you to check specific UDP or TCPIP ports in your firewall to ensure HP communication paths?
They are not usually open in XPSP3 or W7SP1 even after you load the drivers or web mail.  In the updates they even state you must connect to update the device using USB even if you have LAN wired share with a static IP.
I  have three W7 devices (OEM W7, refurbished W7 with updates from WXP (32 bit) and single license W7 on 64 bit hardware) and each of those have had rejections and failures on trying to load the print drivers and the solution center (version 14.0).

My Macbook is connected to the internet via a mobile broadband USB-stick. I find that System Preferences/Date and Time/Time Zone can not determine my location. Is this to be expected?

no it does not. location is your phone using gps. data usuage is downloading i.e. web browsing youtube etc.
just a way to check also you can go to your carriers website and check your data usage at any time.
keep find my phone on its a great feature.
    hope this helps.

  • Windows 8.1 and mobile broadband

I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my X1 Carbon, and it does not detect mobile broadband - the "Networks" pane now shows only the switch for Airplane mode on/off and a list of available WiFi networks, where previously it showed a list of available networks (when outside my home  country) or "Macheen" when at home. Driver issue?  This is make or break for me, as mobile broadband is my lifeblood.
    Thanks

After updating my X1C to Windows 8.1 I can tell you that at least once I've seen the mobile broadband option with the Vodafone logo on the connections, but it is no longer listed. Even if I go to "Turn wireless devices on or off" it only shows the Wifi control, no bluetooth or mobile broadband.
Will add this issue to my own thread of issues with the 8.1 update on my X1C...

  • DROID Incredible and Mobile Broadband

I just upgraded to a DROID Incredible and want to tether my device and use Mobile Broadband.  The problem is I have a MacBook with OS X 10.5.8.
Is it posiible to tether the Incredible to the MacBook?  If so, how do I do it?  The software that came with the phone was for Windows. I have AccessMgr on my Mac as I used to tether an LG Env3.
    Thanks for the help.

You can as long as you are on android 2.2, go into settings>wireless and networks and enable it, but you do have to pay extra for it.

  • Surely this is wrong. ( Unable to get ADSL and Mobile broadband SUPER expensive and doesn't work)

$115/month for wireless broadband ( that works 5-10% of the time) for ONLY 15GB a month is the price?? Surely this is wrong.
There is no justification for a price so large for so little data for a service that barely works. Apparently we can't get ADSL because of A: no ports and B: pair gains line to the house. ( Both of which i've seen no proof of) Why is this a problem now when 5 years ago it wouldnt have been??? I've lived 40km's out of town and had perfectly fine internet connection, now I live 4 minutes out of town and can't get it. I must not have been put onto the correct technical support or the people I'm talking to don't know what they're doing.
Because it barely works now I have to use my phone, which adds a huge amount to my phone bill because phones only have 2-4gb of data. There's no other way of putting it other than we are being robbed in broad daylight. This is now the 3rd month I've been negotiating with Telstra about these charges.
So who do I talk to to either get an ADSL connection and surely this price is wrong or just hasn't been updated? $115 for 15gb, everyone I've talked to has laughed and thought I was joking.
Have tried negotiating with Telstra for months now, as I said must be getting the wrong people. Have called the Ombudsman and was put onto someone who just spent a longer time telling me we can't have ADSL.
There is absolutely no justification for the price and for not being able to have ADSL.

Hi mate  First of all, it sucks but telstra is not robbing you or doing anything wrong. When they say there is no "ports" they are correct, and it means there are physically no "spots" or "connection points" left at your local telephone exchange to connect an ADSL service or for that matter even just a "normal" landline connection. When the exchange was built no one could have predicted the massive future demand for internet. There are so many more houses, units, sub divisions etc then was forseen by ANYONE, not just telstra, combined with an insane increase in the amount of data demanded by each service. You asked about being put on a "pair gain" system. It's basically just a way of running multiple services down the one line- technical name is multiplexing. They invested in that technology so you would at least have a voice service, but as the line is already being used for more than originally designed for there's no way it could support a fast internet connection also. As for your location, when you were further out of town there would have been far less demand for ports, now you live in a city where the demand is much much higher. Disregarding that, it's often just a lottery whether you end up in a suburb with spare ports or not. Now look, telstra is a private company with shareholders to answer to, so why would they do anything which is not profitable in the end? They owe you nothing!! In fact my family and thousands of other aussies own telstra shares and i cant say i'd be happy if they were flushing our money away. These days internet is almost an essential utility which is why the PUBLIC sector is building the NBN. So if everyone will have that soon and copper will be redundant, why would telstra continue upgrading the old network in the meantime just to lose every dollar they spend? It does really suck but there's entire suburbs which can't get ADSL for the reason that they were built after the NBN was announed. As for mobile broadband, yes it's expensive. It's also quite expensive for telstra to provide it and their mobile towers are very limited in their total data output. This is why you pay far more for less. The more data people are downloading the less calls the tower can take. A single phone tower can often only support labout 200 calls simultanously., with some bigger towers with multiple carriers supporting around 1000. a single fast ADSL2 connection can get 20mbps peaks, well that 1000 call tower could only take about 12 x 20mbps internet downloads before it's maxxed out- thats with zero calls. Now think about how many people have mobile phones these days and what a critical service it is. The result is that carriers have to put a low cap the 3g/4g data allowances and aggressively price home wifi broadband Because the number of phone calls is highly variable and being the higher priority service, your internet speed will always depend on the number of calls being made. The tower will always drop your internet to bare minimum to try and connect every phone call if possible. In a way telstra, optus etc are just maximising their investments by selling off their "spare" 3g/4g tower bandwidth, it's super expensive but it's your choice too. They spent the money building the network so it's their reward for doing so.  All you can really do sorry apart from moving is go on a waiting list for a spare port and wait for the NBN. The NBN will probably come before a spare port sorry!

  • Novatel Mobile Broadband Drivers - how do I manually uninstall them?

I am using Windows 7 and the Mifi 2200. I have tried to uninstall the Novatel Mobile Broadband drives through the control panel, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to manually remove those drivers from my computer? Thank you.

Actually, sometimes Win 7 will leave the driver/software in the Programs & Features list if there are multiple drivers, etc. with one install.  Such as VZAccess Manager and Mobile Broadband Generic Drivers.
More than likely if you had restarted the system and went back to the list you more than likely would've seen them removed. What error is the VZAccess Manager/MIFI giving upon the install?
Most times it will uninstall the software but not remove it from the list of Programs so you likely don't have anything to worry about.
To be on the safe side and begin with a clean install of the MIFI.
    Try these steps:
Go to Control Panel, User Accounts, Change User Account Control Settings, then pull the slider all the way down to "Never Notify"
    1. Make sure both devices are unplugged from the Computer.
    2. Click Start, Control Panel.  Look at the top right of the Control Panel window just under the search box and if it says Category, click on it and choose Large Icons.  This will alphabetically list all items.
    3. Choose Programs and Features
    4. Scroll down and look for VZAccess Manager, Verizon Wireless Firmware update and the like.
    5. If either of these exists, remove them.
    6. Restart the computer, (Not shutdown)
    7. Upon restart go to Start Control Panel, Internet Options.  Click on the "Connections" tab, verify there is nothing listed in the Dialup or VPN connections, if so, click on all the and then click Remove. Close when finished but stay in Control Panel.
    8. From Control Panel, go to Phone and Modems, Click "Modems".  Remove all modems from this list if any with the exception of the internal modem.
    9. Close the Control Panel and disable your Anti-Virus program.  Plug the MIFI in the USB port and begin the install.
Note:  The MIFI is also a Novatel Wireless device that has Generic Drivers, so you will see them in the Programs and Features list along with the VZAccess.
Let me know how it goes and if this was of any help.

  • ASA 5505 VPN and Sprint Mobile Broadband clients.

I have a strange problem, it's something that just started recently when we had a user try to gain access with a Sprint Mobile Broadband card. We have quite a few remote users, probably not more than 6 ever connected to the VPN at once, and I have not heard of any issues until recently. We are starting to require more travel to remote locations, so the use of the hotel internet, as well as Sprint mobile broadband is becoming more important.
There are a few issues here. Everything is IPsec.
Mac OSX with VPN client version 4.9.01 will connect to the VPN when connected to a normal internet connection, but as soon as it gets on the Sprint Mobile Broadband device, it connects for exactly 5 seconds and disconnects.
Windows XP Pro, has no problems with normal internet, on the wireless broadband modem, it will connect to the VPN, but have no access to internal resources or access to the internet.
Windows Vista, has issues all the way around, but mainly when connected to the wireless it has the same issues as XP minus the internet browsing.
Strange thing is, all these problems seem to been different, but they all started around the same time. I have been testing everything I can think of. Talked to Sprint, which the lady there was actually very helpful...just have to get to the right person. But nothing we tried did any good.
Does anyone know of any settings on my ASA that I need to change in order to get these types of connections to work?
The best part of all this is that my Linux machine can connect/surf/and browse the internal network through the VPN just like it normally would work.
Something has to be wrong with my client config settings that is causing this to happen.

Have you enabled NAT Traversal? (Both on the Client and ASA)
That would be the first thing to check.

    Thanks,
Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.
But thank you for your reply!

  • F3507g mobile broadband driver - Windows 7 - and Cisco Vpn issue

    Hi All,
After 3 days trying to install / update latest drivers on my X200/ Windows 7 / 32b, it seems now that my F3507g is now installed correctly…
I can go the a connection over internet and ping some servers BUT when I initiate my Cisco Vpn, ( working perfectly with my Ethernet connection and my Wifi 5300 AGN ) the connection is ok but no incoming or outgoing traffic !!!
Any idea on how to solve that issue ?

Yes, this is a problem with the IPSEC VPN NDIS driver binding your Mobile Broadband driver. You need to read this article and it is explains why and how to work around this issue:

  • Have installed OSX Mavericks and Vodafone Mobile Broadband Modem no longer connects despite reloading its software. Now cannot reinstall OSX Mountain Lion

Upgraded to OSX Mavericks. Vodafone Mobile Broadband Modem no longer connects. Tried again after reinstalling latest Vodafone Modem software update for Mac OSX, but no use.

Could somebody give a feedback about the solution proposed by Bokir?
I am experiencing exactly the same problem after upgrading to Mavericks with the Huawei E220 modem.
The connection is established for a few seconds, but no data is transfered, and the connection is then closing automatically.
I left the modem plugged in and the Vodafone software set to Automatic, and after numerous attempts and 10 to 15 minutes, it appeared that the connection was finally established.
That is of course no way to work.
After running the VMB uninstaller, there are still a lot of stuff in library cache & preference folder that are pertaining to VMB and not removed.
It is also strange that after uninstalling and reinstalling the VMB software, I am not requested to enter my pin code to establish a connection.
It is obvious that there must be some other VMB files (probably corrupted) somewhere in the system that are not removed by the uninstaller.
I have another macbook pro running VMB without problem and I am really afraid to install Mavericks on this laptop because of this issue.
    Thanks again for any feedback.

  • Mobile Broadband and Apple TV

    Hello
I am looking at purchasing Apple TV but wondered if it would work with Mobile Broadband?
Just wanted to find this out before I make the purchase.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Depends what you mean.
Any internet connection should work - wired or wireless.
However, AppleTv will not accept standard USB Mobile Broadband dongles.
If you had a computer nearby you could potentially share it's mobile broadband internet connection over ethernet or wi-fi to AppleTV.
If you had some form of mi-fi device with a small wireless/wired router running from a 3G SIM you'd probably be ok, but mobile broadband might be too slow for good performance and unless you had extremely cheap data plans could be very costly.
For example HD movies may be several GB in size, so you'd need to factor the mobile bb cost into the rental price.
If your mobile bb device gave say a sustained 1-2 Mbps, then it might take several hours to download enough of a film to start watching without interruption - it would work but you might be better off letting it all download overnight for example before watching the next evening.
It really depends on exactly what you're considering.
Also, beware of quoted mobile bb speeds which are theoretical and rarely achieved in practice.

  • Set up and activate Telstra Pre-Paid mobile broadband

Set Up Your Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband WiFi Device
Activate Your New Telstra Pre-Paid Service

Re: Set up and activate Telstra pre-paid mobile broadband
I currently have internet at 6/320 Manly Road Manly West Qld, but have recently moved, so need to know what my options are on moving the service to my new address.
I tried Wi-Fi from the main house at the new address, as I live in the unit in the back yard, but even with an 'extender' which we purchased today, there is minimal WI-FI.
Is it possible to get a moveable modem so that I can take it anywhere, and have this instead of my current service, I don't need a home phone, what are my options?

  • Upload data problem with HUAWEI E173 t mobile broadband and Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and updated my T Mobile Broadband software. It successfully connects to the internet.
But within minutes I had exceeded my fair usage policy having browsed five websites!
In T-mobile Internet Manager the Statistics shows huge amounts of data being uploaded ?in the background by OS X.
It is not syncing devices in iCloud. I have no other programs open.
It's uploaded 188MB in 30 mins. I have no idea what this data is or how to rectify this. Help, please?!

Until you can install updated 64 bit software or get hold of a 64 bit T Stick..
Boot your mac into 32 bit mode by holding down the 3 and 2 keys which should work OK.
    Lion is 64 bit..

  • Officejet Pro 8500 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 64 bits Image Size Problem

I have a Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bits desktop computer. After installing the Officejet Pro 8500 multifunctional drivers all was working OK. Images were being printed nice and with the correct size using Windows print option. After installing Adobe CS4 suite, all images printed from windows or Photoshop have incorrect size (photoshop prints it smaller and windows prints it larger).
I've installed all photoshop patches and re-install Officejet 8500 drivers, but the problem persists.
I've also tried to make a clean installation of the whole computer from the beginning
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? What would be the windows/HP files that were changed by Photoshop?
    Thank you.

I'm on the phone with HP tech support about this problem. He said he's gonna charge me to fix the problem and than he put me on hold. I'm waiting to find out how much money I've saved. You put some dollars in my pocket. Thanks!!!!!!
