HP Officejet J6410 causes Dell Dimension desktop to drop internet connection

When I plug in and switch on my HP Officejet J6410 to a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP, it causes the internet connection to drop out. On switching the printer off, the internet connection is re-established.  The internet connection is via a wi-fi adapter to a BT broadband hub. The printer is connected directly and the wireless button switched off.
There is no problem with the printer when using with an HP Pavilion notebook.

Hi Ian404,
Sounds like the issue is with the computer. Have you tried uninstalling the printer, and then reinstall using the current software?
Try using the scrubber built into the CD or Download.
From Original installation CD:
1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-62866-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-62866-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

  • Dell Dimension desktop sometimes won't communicate with my HP Photosmart 6510 wireless printer

At random times, when trying to print from Dell Dimension desktop to HP Photosmart 6510 wireless printer, I get a message that the computer can't communicate with the printer.  The printer shows that it is connected to the Internet. I haven't changed any settings.   Each time this happens, I unplug the printer and router, but it doesn't fix the problem.  After about 20 minutes or so, it prints normally.  It always happens at the most inopportune times.  Any suggestions about how I can keep this from recurring?

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keeps wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (see step 6) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 5 mins.  Power on router wait 3 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

  • Desktop Help Drops My Connection at Start-up

    Hi
Everytime I start up my PC, shortly after everything loads up, my connection drops - it re-starts if I unplug/plug back in my wireless router and stays connected until next time I restart. Not a big deal but one of those things that really annoys.
I couldn't work out what was causing this until I uninstalled desktop help and it magically stopped - I reinstalled it again and it's back to dropping the connection.
    Any bright ideas?

    Hi.
Its not a answer why its happenning, but you have given yourself an answer as to what to do about it.
Uninstall it. Many on the forums will tell you that desktop help is more trouble than what it is worth.

  • Addition of third computer in network causes router to drop internet connection (is the problem Dropbox???)

This is not specifically about MacBook Pros, per se, but since all of the communities are based on specific products, I chose it since it applies to two of the devices concerned.
We have a LINKSYS WRT54G router in our home connected to cable internet.
We normally run a number of iOS devices on it at any given time (iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, two iPad 2nd gen., one iPad Mini with Retina), and almost at all times, an Intel MacBook Pro on 10.6. We sometimes also have an Intel MacBook (black) on 10.6. These all live in harmony just fine. Both laptops have Dropbox on them, but signed in on different user accounts.
I used to have someone working at my house quite often on an Intel MacBook Pro on 10.7, also using Dropbox (but signed into a unique account). Whenever she had her computer on in our house, it would often cause the network to just drop the internet connection suddenly. The network would still have a strong signal, internet just wouldn't work.
We never quite figured it out. We had to reset the router constantly. It was NOT the modem -- you could reset just the router and the results were the same as if you had reset the modem. I didn't pursue a fix since she has since stopped working here.
Recently we just added an Intel iMac on 10.6 to the house, and it is doing the same thing. The only difference is this time, it's logged into the same Dropbox account as my MacBook Pro. At first, it seemed as if there was an issue if both were trying to update at the same time. When I paused syncing on one computer or throttled the upload/download bandwidth, it seemed to get better. However, lately, I am not syncing any large files -- or any files at all, it seems, sometimes -- and I also kept one machine on throttled connections, while a THIRD machine is even off completely...and it's still kicking the internet connection off.
Any ideas? I'm getting really tired of re-setting it every so often.
    Thank you!

Also, there are no other networks we pick up here. Sometimes, we randomly get the neighbor's, but it's protected and we don't ever join it.
    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • How to set up internet connection to laptop and desktop?

I have a modem connected to an old lynksis router. I have my desktop hooked in port 2 on the router and my laptop in port one..
The desktop's  network map shows it connected to a switch(my router) and the switch to my laptop and the laptop to the internet..
Thus I have internet connection on my desktop
but my problem is that the network map on the laptop shows it connected to the switch and the switch to my desktop
    thus no internet connection..
how do I connect the laptop to the internet as well as share files? I'm confused after fiddling around for an hour.

    Hello,
First, are you using Wifi for Internet on the MBP?
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list, Wifi on the MBP.
In Shating on both, enable File Sharing, Screen Sharing, & Web Sharing on both.
Then with the Ethernet cable between the two, find the IPs of both, or use Finder>Go>Connect to Server>Browse... see what shows up.

  • Dell Dimension 5150 Desktop fitted with a Cohiba w...

    Evening all,
I have a Dell 5150 desktop PC with a Cohiba 3887 USB wifi adapter fitted, when I boot up the PC and login, the adapter status is "connected to BT Homehub 2 - TRT2", after about 1 minute the status changes to "unable to connect to your preferred wifi networks". If I then go to the wifi network list and connect manually everything is OK, how can get the adapter to connect automatically. I've had a look at the network setting (several times), the homehub is set to automatically connect, tried changing some of the settings but no joy. Thanks.
    O/S Windows XP Pro.
    Memory 3GB
    Pentium D 2.8 Ghz
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for your reply, I've changed the HH setting to b/g, no change. It looks as though there is a conflict between whatever is connecting the adapter during bootup (BT wireless manager?) and when windows tries to take over and connect to "preferred networks", if I take windows out of the mix by disabling "let windows manage your network connection" in the network settings, it will auto connect to BT Fon, which is not in my preffered network list (only the BT Homehub is) but BT Fon is in my "available network list"........Confused? I certainly am!
The Cohiba driver was installed about a year and a half ago, just before they stopped supporting the adapter, consequently no newer driver available but the adapter does work OK once I've manually connected it.

  • HP OfficeJet J6410 won't install under Windows 8 & Windows 8.1

Recently I made a posting about installing the HP OfficeJet J6410 printer on my daughter's new HP laptop.
Please, before answering my question, I would like to point out to two earlier postings from me.
    1. The first posting.
Around april this year (2014) I bought a new laptop for myself (a HP 15 Notebook PC, d081ed). It had Windows 8.1 pre-installed on it. At first I had problems installing the HP OfficeJet J6410 printer. I received a very usefull reply by which I was able to solve the problem.
Read more about this posting here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officet-J6410-won-t-install-under-Wind...
    2. The second posting.
Almost two weeks ago a bought a second HP laptop (HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11-e000ed) voor my daughter. This laptop had Windows 8 pre-installed on it. I experienced the same problem with the printer and made a posting. Unfortunatelly that didn't resolve the problem. I received no further reactions. The problem is still unsolved.
Read more about this posting here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/HP-OfficeJet-J6410-won-t-install-under...
    A. What have I done afterwards?
Afterwards the previous above I first made sure I had all the updates for Windows 8 installed. I've read that in the case of the laptop of my daughter I could upgrade for free to Windows 8.1. So I did that too.
    B. Why a second posting?
Since I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I realized my second posting wasn't quite accurate anymore. I realized it could lead to confusion since I now don't have Windows 8 installed on it anymore.
    Now here's the strange part.
    B.1.
On my own laptop (d081ed, HP 15 Notebook PC) I have the same operating system (Windows 8.1. ) as I now have on the laptop for my daughter (11-e000ed, HP Pavillion Touchsmart)
    B.2.
After upgrading I tried the same steps, as described in my first posting, on the laptop for my daughter.
Strangely enough, and although we now both have a HP laptop with exactly the same operating system on it, I can not get the printer installed.
What can be wrong? I tried updating, the scrubber, the packages to solve the C++ redistributable packages... nohting works! And worse!! It seems I somehow made the problem worse...
Why do I think that, and are there things or error-messages that are different than the one I experienced before (with my own laptop, see point 1 above at the beginning of this posting).
    B.2.1.
The first thing that is different:
If I want to install the printer, and after it extracted files, checked the system and prepares it for installation, I receive the message:
    C:\users\<username of my daughter.\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS0FF0\Setup\de..
This is different than the message (Program: C\Users\IRN\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS28Db\Setup.exe) I experienced with my own laptop (the d081ed).
    Note the difference between:
..Temp\7zS0FF0\Setup\de.. (<-- that is the message I get on the laptop of my daughter)
    and
..Temp\7zS28Db\Setup.exe (<-- that is the message I had on my own laptop)
    B.2.2.
The second thing that is different:
At some point I installed, after upgrading to Windows 8.1, the SP 40669 package. I can't remember having done that on my own laptop.
    B.2.3.
On my own laptop I installed the C+++ packages for 2005, 2008 and 2010.
On the one for my daughter I only installed the C+++ package for 2010 (KB2562063, version 10.0.30319 and 10.0.40219, but I don't think that is the problem really, correct my if I'm wrong).
    B.2.4.
Before I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I got an error message at rebooting the system (in Dutch
    explorer.exe - Toepassingsfout
De instructie op 0x5d2c3e01 verwijst naar geheugen op 0x00000000. Een lees- of schrijfbewerking op het geheugen is mislukt: read.
Klik op OK als u het programma wilt beëindigen.
And after that the message doesn't wait for your click on OK. It just flashes away very quickly. Since I got that message a couple of times, I did manage to capture it with the camcorder on my mobile phone. In that way I was able to describe you the message as exactly as here above.
I sometimes get the message again, and then not. So it's not consistent. It seems to me the problem there is with explorer.exe and not with the printerproblem, but I'm not sure. Couple of days later, there were new updates for Windows 8.1, which I installed, and the error-message didn't show up again the last few days.
    Last request.
I would really appreciate some help with this. The reason I like the printer installed is because of the HP Solution Center. I'm sure my daughter would use it for scanning documents needed for her study and printing activities.
I installed the basic printer for the time being, but only as I temporarily work-around, so she can - at least - print all of her study materials. Scanning, on the other hand, is some differtent then, but that is a known problem with the basic printer driver.
I truly don't understand this problem. We both have an HP laptop, we both have the same operating system now (Windows 8.1) and stil .. on my laptop I managed to install the printer, and on hers not.
    Please help me.
(p.s. I do have a HP support Pack for both laptops, and if one thinks that this problem is too complex and would redirect me to HP support ... no offense taken, from my side. But, I really would like to try to solve problem myself at first and would really appreciate your help with it. )

    Hello RNRMusicMan,
Glad you're willing to help me out. So Sorry I couldn't send a message earlier. I had a few appointments the last few days and afterwards I had to little time to spend enought time to try to solve te problem.
    But o.k, let's continue.
I've followed the steps you mentioned as a second option. I'll describe what I've done.
First I tried the Hp printer install wizzard
    No succes
Same error occured  …\setup\de.. (at the second fase of the installation program of the printersoftware)
    Restarted the system
    I used the Scrubber
    L4
Error: uninstaller didn't work. Clicked ok
    Restart
At restart I got the same error about something with the memory. (In dutch; 'De instructie op 0x5d2c3e01 verwijst naar geheugen op 0x00000000. Een lees- of schrijfbewerking op het geheugen is mislukt: read.' and please note that 0x5d2c3e01 was this with different numbers etc, but I guess that's just the adress in the memory where the program wants to read/write to)
    I continued with cleanboot
Msconfig – services – hide all microsoft services – disable
Startup – system configuration – open task manager
On startup tab in task manager – I disabled each startup item
    Closed taskmanager
Startup – system configuration – checked ok box
    Restarted
Tried to install again with the OI_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_4.exe software I downloaded from the hp website
At ‘systeem wordt voorbereid op installatie’ I got the same error again: ‘C:\Users\Simone\AppData\Local-\Temp\7zS46SD\Setup\de..
After this I followed the steps as described to start up again normally (that is: msconfig, enabling the services again, etc.) and that step went o.k and as aspected, so no problems there.
After that I restarted the system again. I didn't get the message about the problem with the memory again. So I guess that must have been due to the error in the scrubber program.
I really don't understand this. Me and my daughter both have a hp, both the same OS (windows 8.1), and on my laptop I got the printer running and hers not. What can it be? I'm guessing that there most have been something that went wrong then with either the installation with one of the windows 8 or windows 8.a upgrades, or with the upgrading from windows 8 to windows 8.1. Or is that to far fetched? But that just a question I have, trying to understand what went wrong or what could be the cause of this.
So what now? It didn't work.
    Update (29-9-14):
Since all the suggested solutions didn't work out I decided to start all over.
One of the reasons I decided to do so, was the following:
I've got an external DVD writer (Samsung, Slim External, model SE-8084D/TSWS) that I needed to use for installation of the HP J6410 CD that came with the printer, since the laptop of my daughter doesn't have a built-in DVD player.
Now here the strange thing! When I use it on my own laptop, it starts the software on the the HP J6410 DVD flawlessly. No problems there! But, when I connect it to the laptop of my daughter, it sees the CD and I can explore the files on it. But, when I try to start HPSetup.exe on it it does ... nothing!! Now that's very stange! Me and my daughter both have a HP laptop, with the same OS. Still it functions normally on my laptop, and on for the one for my daughter it does nothing. Same with the software that you can download from the HP site. It runs on my computer, but gives errors on the one for my daugther. So I guess that was a good reason to decide to start all over again from scratch
This is what I've done so far.
    - I made a (full) factory recovery.
    - I've installed all the updates for Windows 8.
    - After that I upgraded to Windows 8.1 again and installed all of the updates for it as well.
    - I removed the antivirus program (Norton Antivirus)
    - After that is done I tried to install the printer again.
    No success!
But.. I'm convinced I've found out where the problem might lay.
My daughter had c++ 2012 redistributable installed (version 11.0.50727).
My other laptop doesn't. An even older hp laptop (with Windows Vista on it) does neither. On those laptops the printer software ran.
On the new laptop for my daughter it doesn't.
So.. I'm suspecting the problem does not lay in the printer software but in the c++ 2012 redistributable package.
Another difference is that my own laptop had an Intel processor. The one for my daughter has an AMD.
So I am convinced the problem must lay in the C++ 2012 package (maybe combined with the AMD processor? I don't know) and NOT the printer software.
Anyone got any ideas on what to do next?
If so, I thankfully await your answer.

  • X-FI I/O Drive doesn't fit in Dell Dimension - He

I have a Dell Dimension 800 series and went to install the X-FI I/O panel on the front of the PC. However, this model Dell uses a carrier to slide any dri'ves into the bays. The carriers only have holes for screws at the bottom and the I/O panel only has holes on the sides. ARRRGH! Is there any type of adapter that will allow me to install this in the PC? I can't believe that both manufacturers missed giving multiple options for installations. I don't want to return the card as I need it for professional audio. THanks in advance,
    Jeff

On my dimension 5000 case it works as follows..... there is a blue lever/catch system on the side of the dri've bays:- if i lift that up then i can slide my cd cdri've out. Yeah? So....,. if you look at your cd dri've you will see that there is one screw on one side and two on the other and that all 3 screws have the head, a smooth bit and then the screw.
Screw the screws in, life the lever/catch thingy and slide the dri've bay in. Only use the screws that came with the dimension desktop btw....... others dont have the smooth bit for sliding it in and out.

  • Video card dell dimension 3000

    Hey, everybody.
Im planning to buy a new video card for my ; dell dimension 3000,  Intel(R) , Celeron(R) CPU 2.4GHz, 2.00 gb of ram, and I believe power supply is 250 W.
    So here is the bunch of questions;
    1. Seems like my computer uses a pci type memory cards, my question here is can I use these wide known pci e cards?
    2. Second one is I seen that there are different sizes of video cards out there for sale, so how do I figure out which one I should use, I mean is there a maximum number of mb that my computer supports or I could use any size of video card?
..and I think so far I do not have more questions about my video memory card purchase.
*all help would be appreciated Thanks*

    1. you will not be able to use a PCI-E card in the Dimension 3000.
    2. Your choices are very limted on PCI videocards and the performance increase is not worth the money that a new card will cost you. You could go with a 512mb PCI card but with the slow celeron processor and and low end power supply. You still will not be able to play of the new games that are out right now.
It's time for a new computer.

  • IPhone Model A1203 is not being recognized in iTunes using Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4100. How to get drivers to get the device recognized?

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes to Windows XP then connected my first generation iPhone to the different USB ports available on the Dell Dimension 4100, not one of them allowed the iphone to be recognized.  The Troubleshooter did not locate drivers other than what are already in the system.  Is there a work around?  Is it the iphone or Windows XP?  Where do I locate drivers?  Why can't my devices just get along?

  • Connections for Inspire 5200 on a Dell Dimension

Is anyone aware of the proper connections to utilize the built-in 5.1 audio on a Dell Dimension 8400?
Are there any suggestions on which speaker system would be the best for a Dell Dimension if I should decide to replace my speakers?
Dell's online owner's manual shows that the black jack is for surround and the white jack is for the center. I have the jack for the speaker system's FRONT speakers plugged into the surround jack and the CENTER/WOOFER plugged into the center jack.
It would be nice to have real 5.1 sound coming from my computer since it's supposed to be able to handle it without using an Audigy card. I have an Audigy card in another computer, but I don't want to pull it if I don't have to.

    cconklin,
Not sure about your onboard audio but you should connect the onboard audio Front jack to the speaker system front input jack, Rear/Surround jack to the speaker rear input jack and lastly the Center jack to the speaker Center/Subwoofer input.
