HP Scanjet 4470c not compatible

I've just upgraded to 10.5.6, and my old HP scanner (which ran on 10.4 via Classic) is now obsolete. How can I partition my secondary hard drive to run Classic Environment so I can utilize the scanning software? Vuescan will not recognize my scanner.
Conversely, I can download a driver for Windows... can I run it via Boot Camp, and, if so, how do I do that?
I really don't want to choose between buying a new scanner and enjoying Leopard. Any advice would be very helpful.

Since G5's cannot boot OS 9 you would have to run Tiger in order to use Classic. You would need the original distribution discs for your computer that contained the special non-bootable version of OS 9 for use in Classic.
To create a separate partition for Tiger simply requires using Disk Utility to shrink your existing volume then adding a new volume. This is detailed in Disk Utility Help.
To run Windows you have numerous options:
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.

Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.
Since running Windows will most likely involve purchasing a Windows installation package, you might just as well buy a new scanner. Many new scanners are less costly than purchasing Windows XP.

I have an old Scanjet 4470c which worked perfectly with my old XP machine which recently died. I now have a new Windows 7 machine but there do not seem to be any drivers for the 4470 from either HP or from 3rd party driver suppliers. Am I correct? If so, do I have to ditch the 4470? There are newer HP scanners G 4050 and 5590. Will these work with Windows 7? I need a scanner which will scan documents as well as 35mm slides and film. Any ideas? Any help will be gratefully accepted

Unfortunately there are no drivers for the 4470c. Running an older driver in Compatibility Mode has been reported to not work either. The only alternative would be if you are running Windows 7 Pro, you can use the Microsoft Virtual XP machine to run it in. Win 7 Home Premium did not come with this feature.

Mail app deleted and reinstall wont open, says not compatible with OSX

i accindetally deleted my mail app and emptied the trash, when I tried to reinstall from the startup disk, it installs but wont open, saying that the version of mail is not compatible with the version of OSX (10.5.8)

There is no downloadable version of Mail.app - it comes with the operating system i.e. on your install disks.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

I have installed Firefox4 to find it is not compatible with my version of OSX how do I get version 3.6 back or do I just give up and use Safari?

I downloaded Version 4 and installed it. At no point did it say that it was not compatible with the version of OS X that I am running (10.4.11) now that it is installed it will not open but it has already up graded from 3.6 so I have lost the lot. How can I download a version of 3.6 so that I can use it again or should I just pack up and use Safari as all I can get from your site is version 4. HELP!!!

I need to silently upgrade from 3.5 to 7 but get an error message after 7 install. Platform version 7.0 is not compatible with minVersion = 1.9.1

I'm trying to silently upgrade my environment to FF 7. I've gotten the silent install working great, it puts in my Proxy Server info, reassigns the home page and all that. But, the last version we pushed out was FF 3.5. If a user had that on their PC and they run the FF7 install, they get weird messages when clicking on the icon.

Do you have other virtualization or security software that might protect .ini and possibly other files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) and prevent Firefox from updating them properly?
You need to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Firefox will not open after new update; Error: Platform version '1.9.2.13' is not compatible

After accepting the new update I got this error message when trying to restart Firefox:

I have tried:
- Opening in Safe Mode; same error
- Uninstalling, deleting remaining info in C>ProgramFiles>MozillaFirefox folder, and reinstalling.
- Updating Avast antivirus in case that was interfering.
Now when I try to start Firefox I get this message;
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.
But there is nothing happening in the Windows Task Manager. Please, somebody save me from Windows Internet Explorer!!

I experienced this error updating from Firefox 3.6.13 to 3.6.14 and resolved it by doing a 'clean' install' as described. It occurred again in updating from 3.6.14 to 3.6.15 and this time a clean install failed to rectify it. (Anyway, I don't want to have to go through this every time.)
Work-around: Shut down Firefox. Edit application.ini (typically "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\application.ini")

I want to add another management server to our existing SCOM environment. But whenever I run this setup on a new server I get stuck in the window for selecting the OperationsManager database. The database field stays blank and in the OpsMgrSetupWizard log
there are lines that the setup version is not compatible with the database version. But I use the same installer as when I installed the other management servers a year ago.
Maybe there is a newer setup installer? But I can't find it.

Apparently there was a newer version of SCOM setup in msdn and someone upgraded our existing SCOM environment. Downloaded the new setup, new report viewer controls and a System
CLR Types for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 and now it works!!
