Over the air upgrades are only active with iOS 5 or later. You will ahve to upgrade using iTunes.

If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

Problem updating from Acrobat 10.1.10 to 11. Error 1001, and am told to connect to update server. When I activated the installer, message said Install failed, contact manufacturer for assistance, so I am.

I am using a 2011 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.9.5. Have been using Acrobat 10.1.10, but got a pop-up notice from Adobe today, saying that it had been awhile since last logged on and my software was due for an update. However, after downloading the update Acrobat 11, the updater seems to be unable to FIND the file to update, so it asks me to select the file to update. When I found it, the file icon was grayed out, and wouldn't allow me to select it. Gave me a message for "Error 1001". I'm an experienced Mac user, but not a programmer, so I don't know what that means. When I tried to run the installer from the downloaded file, it stopped, saying "Installation Failed" due to encountering an error—which was NOT named or numbered—and that I should contact the manufacturer for assistance. Which I am ATTEMPTING to do, but it appears to be impossible to actually get direct help.
Suggestions, or better yet, direct answers, would be appreciated.

Did you ever figure out the problem? "Contact Software Manufacturer"?? That sounds ominous... I've got the same issue and I'm pretty durn aggravated right about now....

i mean it is the same brand i only use apple products, there should not be inconviniences like this being from the same brand, if it is a different brand like windows or whatever i understand but in this case is different i think

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them. You will have to delete the apps from the phone and re-purchase them using your Apple ID.

i tried reseting my ipod today and had a similar problem... it wont be recognized by itunes, the only thing i havent tried is putting it into DFU mode, or the state that it is in when u recieve it telling u to connect it to itunes.i recommend putting it into DFU mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34v8HMC9B98 this should better explain it. if i find another way, ill keep u updated

If you get a network timed out error, try disabling the security software on the computer during the download and install.
You can also try a direct download andinstall by:
iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download

Hopefully, you use a passcode to unlock your lock screen. It is that passcode that is required to update IOS. See Settings > Passcode.

Is there a way to copy everything on the iTouch into iTunes, if necessary, before I load the new software?

It is possible to transfer purchases from your iPod back into iTunes before updating the OS. If you had any CDs from your personal collection, these you have to put back into iTunes manually. Hope this helps you & good luck!
