HT1277 My AOL account will not receive or send mail

My AOL mail account will not receive or send mail.  It has a triangle with exclamation point in it next to inbox, when i click on that it says "there may be a problem with mail server to network, check AOL settings". Also says PORT 993 timed out

    Sorry to hear that your email doesn't work.
    Can you please explain what your settings are?
    Take each account separately. Try to work on one at a time.
    My wife uses gmail from Mail, and every few months something stops working. Each time, I find that Google has changed something on their end that requires me to change/tweak one of her settings. I find the help on gmail.com to be invaluable for this. Make sure that they are exactly the same as in the help files.
    My wife's parents use yahoo for mail. There email also sometimes fails. I don't know why. They live in Europe, so I'm not sure if it's just that they are awake when most of us in the western hemisphere are asleep when they do maintenance or something. It seems to just stop for a day or two, then work again. Yahoo also has some help files.

    Have you enabled iMessage? Have you signed in with your Apple ID? I think you need to reset the settings of iMessage: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    Hi - I have one ATT IMAP Mail account that does not receive mail promptly, often taking hours or even days to arrive unless I rebuild that particular mailbox. Another IMAP account with a different provider works fine. I have tried to figure out the problem with ATT, but they seem to think the problem is Apple Mail. I know the mail should be arriving because I can see it in in webmail, but it doesn't arrive until immediately after I rebuild. What's up with this and how do I fix it?

    AT&T uses Yahoo for mail service, and Yahoo often causes problems with Mail in OS X, so there may not be a good solution. You can try the following.
    Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
    from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
    Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
    Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Do not attempt to sync email accounts. Security features hardly ever allow this to work without any edditing. Contact your email provider to find out the settings and servers they are using for mobile devices and then remove the existing account from settings, mail contacts calendars and create a new acccount there. After the setup is finished check all the settings of the crated acccount to ensure all sections are populated with information. Especialöly it might be neccessary to fill some fields in the smtp primary ßerver settings that are rated as optional.

    First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
    That's not the same as turning it off or on.
    Another things to try is to reset your settings. Use the Settings app for this.
    Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    You will not lose data but you will have to enter all passwords again.
    If the problem persists after the reset check your email accounts on the iPad. You could delete them and add them back. This is also done in the Settings app.

  • My Mac Mail no longer works (does not receive or send mail)

    I have had my MacBook for maybe a year now, and I don't really use the mail often. The last time I was able to send and receive mail was back in October. Now it will no longer work.. I get a pop up that's always asking me to put in my mail password, but nothing happens. I even tried going to preference to change my password and it won't allow me.
    When I try to send mail, the little paper plane icon is not clickable. Nothing happens. The only thing I can do is exit out of the message or save the draft. And I can not seem to get mail at all from anyone. I haven't touched any setting either, so I don't understand why it no longer works. My bank can no longer send me emails nor can my friends send me emails anymore.
    Does anyone know how I can possibly fix this problem and get my email up and running again. Thanks in advance for all the advice.

    Sorry but I'm really not to sure what I have. I'm not good with knowing my computer model. All I know is that its a MacBook running with Leopard. I got my computer last year so I suppose its fairly new. Is there a place on my computer where I can check to see what it is (sorry to be so dumb with my own mac)
    And everything else works fine. I love Safari. It's just my mail that doesn't work. Here's the message that pop up several times.
    "The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “akcastaldo”
    Please re-enter your password, or cancel."
    The only problem here is, even though I enter my password it doesn't do anything. It makes that message go away for about 3-5 mins. After that it pops right back up. And I can't even go into my preference and change my email password. So I don't know what to do.

    I have had problems with MAIL ever since I got a new iMac with OS10.5.
    I have many email accounts; Most work, but I can only send mail through a couple of them.
    For some reason, the passwords do not get stored in a stable way, so I am often, to my frustration since I have a bad memory for passwords, asked to provide it.
    In particular, Mail seems to have trouble with two different accounts with the same server. For instance, I have two gmail accounts, and I am always asked for the password of one or the other, because apparently Mail gets them confused or something.
    Also, when I look at my email accounts in Preferences, I see several with SMTP marked (disconnected). I do not know what this means, and can find no explanation anywhere.
    I DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH MY MacBook using 10.4. So there

  • Mail will not receive any incoming mail from either of my 5 accounts

    I have not been able to receive mail to my leopard mail.app for quite some time now... which is odd, as I can easily receive mail to my iphone on all the same accounts.
    I thought at one point it was pgp, but now when I have completely re-installed leopard and manually moved mailboxes over, I still have same problem.
    Anybody out there with a similar problem, solution?

    Well that is exactly it, nothing happened... when using connection doctor, it would say something like 'cannot connect to server' or something other, which is odd, since I have had this setup running for ages on all accounts nothing was new.
    I could send at times with a long delay, but had not been able to pull down messages for good 2 weeks, and prior to that, it seemed that on some networks I could pull down, but on others I could not. (taking into consideration that I am travelling all the time, and use probably 20 different wifi's pr week)
    Anyhows, after browsing the net most of today without finding much of anything, I just figured that my mail folder must just be a tad bloated (well I had more than 16000 sent messages). So I moved all my sent messages to a seperate folder, and deleted all my mail accounts, but kept my mail in folders.
    Did a new setup of so far 2 of the email addresses, and they are running fine.
    But can mail actually get too bloated, what is the limit?

    My me.com account doesn't seem to be getting craigslist emails.

    AND IT NEVER WILL if craigslist is requiring an email verification click through for your post to be activated.  Right now your ONLY option will be to switch your craigslist reply email account to a NON apple email address.  Apple appears to be blocking the sender email address craigslist is using when the "Ad Post email confirmations" are sent.  Other types of responses from CL appear to be unaffected.
    I doubt that apple will respond to this situation, they are the WORST at even acknowledging a problem exists, let alone changing what they do to accomodate the reality their customers live with.  I don't think ANYONE at apple is the least bit concerned about what their customers are experiencing while they are using apple products.   ALL that matters is the people that design the stuff think it's neat.  The way they made it is the RIGHT way and everyone else is WRONG.

    The AOL software, which of course stopped offering support to Apple in 2006 still worked like a charm with Snow Leopard.
    Is there a way to get the E mails which were saved on my my MAC, in AOL?  My Mac is from Feb. 2011, so fairly new.

    The easiest way would be to install Snow Leopard on an external drive, or new internal partition, and export them from the AOL software itself.
    Alternatively, you could try an app like http://www.weirdkid.com/products/emailchemy/
    I don't have AOL - so I can't speak for it's effectiveness in your situation.

    I recently switched from Hotmail to BT Yahoo mail.  I use Google Chrome as web browser and have stored my BT E-mail address in the Auto-fill settings. I have also ticked box which says keep me signed in. Despite this I still have to type my E-mail address manually every time.  Is this is a fault on my computer or in BT's software?

    One possible explanation - have you changed a setting in Chrome to delete all cookies on exit?  I know Firefox has such a setting, and I guess Chrome would as well.
