HT1329 My hard drive died. Can I plug my ipod into the new computer and transfer my files or will they be wiped out?
My computer hard drive fried on Friday. They are not able to retrieve the data. Have i lost everything that was not a download?
Can i plug in my iPod into the new computer (once I install iTunes and authorize the computer) and move my files to the new system from the iPod, or will my iPod be wiped out?
I believe I need to set up manual update, rather than automatic to prevent this, but other than that, I am a bit lost.
Thank you.

My iPod touch is synced to my old Mac and I have a new PC. Now when I plug my iPod into the new computer it will make the connection sound, but will not show up in my iTunes. I do not care to have the content copied over. Any suggestions?

My laptop died so I've installed itunes onto another PC and my music is all on an external hardive which is connected to the new PC. How can I sync my ipod with the new itunes and get all the music onto itunes?
You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. Items that it does not find in the catalog it'll upload and store these in the cloud for you and you can download them on your devices. See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ -
I wish to transfer all the music on my ipod (synced with my home computer) to my itunes on my work computer. Is this possible? I am concerned if I plug my ipod into the work computer, which has itunes but no music content, that it will automatically sync and wipe all the content from ipod. Can anyone advise?
Only if you use a third-party utility such as Phone to PC and only if you use the same Apple ID for your other computer.

Computer Hard Drive Crash - Can i reinstall my ipod music to new HD/Itunes?
My hard drive crashed and i have replaced it. I'm afraid to connect my Ipod Classic back into my new download of Itunes. Will i lose my 30 gigs of music or is it possiable to transfer the music from my ipod to the new (empty) itunes?
I have put many hours of installing my CD colection into my old hard drive/itunes and would love to avoid that again.
I Know, I Know, BACK-UP BACK-UP BACK-UP. Lessons from lossesOk, I won't say anything about backing up, it sounds like you have learned your lesson. Anyway, forum regular, Zevoneer, has written a very extensive explanation on how to move your library iPod>iTunes. Please see Zevoneer's post on the following link.

I plugged my iPod into a friends computer and my libary has been deleted!
Is there any way of recovering what i have lost my inadvertantly syncing with his ipod?
cheers
michaelokay never ever plug your ipod into your friends itunes list. The computer then thinks that you want to sync your friends songs on your ipod, and delete all the existing songs on your ipod and replace them with your friends songs. when you plug in your ipod to a different itunes library, a message will pop up and say something like: the songs on your ipod are linked to a different itunes library, do you want to sync the files on this library and erase all your existing files? ---and you should say NO OR CANCEL, or else all your songs will be deleted and now you might have to download all your songs back. It has happened to me before when i got a new computer and i had to install itunes again and redownload my songs.

My computer crash and i got a new Hard Drive. I synced my Ipod to my Itunes and then lost all my photos that were on my ipod. I do not know if my cloud backed it up. Is there any way i can get my pictures back??????
- If the photos were synced to the iPod they are gone
- If they were taken by or saved to the iPod gp to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and look at the date/time of the iPod backup. If it is when you synced then restoring from backup should get the photos back.
- If you had turned on Settings>iCloud>PhotoStream, then set up PhotoStream on the computer and get the last 30 days of photos from PhotoStream. You should also be able to get them back by simply turning one Photostream on the restored iPod. -
I know this is probably a very common question, but I've heard too many different answers so I'd just like to make sure I know the correct one.
So I just got a new laptop yesterday because my other one fried.. I just downloaded itunes and was just about to plug in my ipod but then hesitated because I didn't know whether if I would lose all my songs or not. Will I lose my songs if I connect it to the new itunes? Thank You for your help! From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

I plugged my iPod into my friends computer and her iTunes synced to my iPod
I plugged my iPod. Into my friends iTunes and now I can't find my camera roll
- Because it sounds like you restored your iPod either to factory settings/new iPod or from a backup that was on that computer.
- You have to restore your iPod from a backup of your iPod. For how see:
iOS: How to back up
- If the photos are not in a backup then
- If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

I have a new Windows 8 laptop. I copied all of my music onto it. I then plug in my ipod and get "there's a problem with this drive, scan and fix now". When I click scan and fix it tells me "can't perform the check because Windows can't access the disk.".
I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it - but same problem.bump, I have same issue. thanks, MM

I would suggest backing up your iphone before doing anything. You can do that by right-clicking on the name of your iphone from the source list on the left side of itunes.
I hope this helps!
