HT1338 10.8.2 update fails to install and hangs. How do I remove it so I can re-install?

Downloaded 10.8.2
nothing happened, did not reboot.
rebooted manually. system not updated.
when I try to download again, app store says it is installed but nothing happens
How can I remove the ghost of the failed update so I can download a fresh copy?

Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!
If you're really that worried, I highly recommend Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition. Supports PowerPC & Intel and Mac OS X 10.4-10.7.

Photoshop CS5 broke down twice. I deinstalled and than reinstalled. Now CS5 works but I can't install the updates. "An error occurred, try it again later." But it's not said what error occurred.

Thank you very much for your help. Now, I was able to install the update (Adobe Photoshop 12.0.4 update for Adobe Photoshop CS5, Mac). But I couldn’t mark the answer as correct. I didn’t find the „correct“ button.

OK, here's the Windows version of the update:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop 12.0.4 update for Adobe Photoshop CS5
and for Mac:

Of course, ignore the idiotic recommendation that appears there to try to use Help > Updates. We already know that doesn't work.

Try resetting ...
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
You won't lose any data as a result of a reset.

You are going to have to download and install iTunes on the computer. Your iPhone is in recovery mode. See this support document for help with that. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

My wife and i both have an itunes library installed on to our separate pc's, we are now de-commissioning the pc's and are moving over to a single mac mini, can we install both libraries on to the mac mini and run them as separate libraries?

Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
That's all.

PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

You should run the removal applicaiton that came with your installation. Please try again after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
Step 1
Reset your computer’s PRAM.
Step 2
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
Step 3
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. One backup is not enough to be safe. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with Disk Utility. Preferably both.
Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all data on the startup volume, so you had be better be sure of the backups.
Step 4
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider to have the machine tested.

Almost all can be installed. Apps which might be excluded would be those that only work with iPhone hardware, etc.
