To upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6, do I also need to buy 10.5?

But you do need to meet the system requirements:
Snow Leopard General requirements
  1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
  2. 1GB of memory
  3. 5GB of available disk space
  4. DVD drive for installation
  5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
  6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
You also need to contact Apple to purchase the DVD:
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
After you install Snow Leopard you will want to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

Of this I'm positive: There will be no upgrades for InDesign CS6 (except if there were a security issue). Adobe never adds updates to an earlier version. The current version is InDesign CC. InDesign CS6 will always be as it is now.
What you may have read is that Adobe says it will keep selling InDesign CS6 for the forseeable future.

  • I aam thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new Apple compatible version of Lightroom, do I have to pay to upgrade or can I get the new version free?

I am thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new, Apple compatible, version of Lightroom, or can I upgrade to it, or can I get it free as I've paid for the PC version?

Your licence is not platform specific, so Lightroom can be used on any two machines (Mac and/or WIndows), with one actually being used at any given time.
    So no, you're money's safe!

  • Hi we have apple credentials for downloading OS and creating Provisioning profiles. Now we are trying to upgrade the Mac OS 10.7.3 version. do we need should buy this version from appStore. or can it be download from the apple site for free?  Many thanks

Hi we have apple credentials for downloading OS and creating Provisioning profiles. Now we are trying to upgrade the Mac OS 10.7.3 version. do we need should buy this version from appStore. or can it be download from the apple site for free?  Many thanks in advance!

Whether you need to buy Mac OS X 10.7.3 depends on what version of OS X you have now.
If you have OS X 10.6.x or lower it is a paid upgrade from the Mac AppStore.
If you have OS X 10.7.x it is a free upgrade you get using Software Update on your Mac.

  • HT1338 i upgraded from leopard to snow leopard ( i know i am really behind) but now iTunes won't recognize my iPhone. and the updates keep crashing when they are trying to install...help!

I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard. now iTunes won't recognize my iphone, and the upgrading the software keeps crashing.. help!!

Mountain Lion is OS X 10.8
    10.6 was called Snow Leopard.
To use iTunes 10.7 the following is required:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor and 512MB of RAM
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    Safari 4.0.3 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Do you use iTunes Match?
That way all of your songs would be matched with the master song on the iTunes servers independently of iTunes on your Mac or PC...

  • Upgrading from 5 to 7. An Idiot's Guide needed

When I first got my Mac, it was just on the cusp of OSX. So it came loaded with OSX and OS9. The shop I got all the kit from set everything up on OS9 with Logic 5 working via OMS.
Now, this has worked fine (apart from a few lack of memory problems) but it's time to move on.
So, I upgraded to Tiger and I've bought the upgrade from Logic 5 (Big Box version) to Logic 7 pro.
Obviously I need more memory, although I'm not sure how much, but what are the practicalities to make sure it works when I first fire it up?
What happens to my old favorite VST's?
    Virtual Guitarist, Groove Agent, Stylus,
    My battered old Edirol Orchestral?
I write for TV regularly so I can't afford to have much down-time.
Please someone tell me it'll be OK....
    Cheers
    Rod

OMS was very popular for Mac OS 9 because it managed your MIDI ports and abstracted the software/MIDI relationship to where all we needed to know were the names of the ports, rather than port numbers and stuff like that.
Apple's CoreMIDI structure in Mac OS X is based on OMS (Doug Wyatt, the developer of OMS, works for Apple and has been the primary developer behind CoreMIDI).
If you are still planning to dual boot from OS9, you will use OMS there. However, as far as OS X goes, everything you need is built in and accessed from the Audio MIDI Setup utility.

  • Can I transfer pages app from my ipad to my imac or do i need to buy the program again

I am looking at buying an Imac and i was wondering if the two programs installed on my Ipad (pages and keynote) would be able to transfer from the ipad to the imac or would i need to purchase them again?

if you do buy it then you can use icloud to share docs between the ios and osx versions
but often it will make a copy as the formats are not 100% compatible which is odd

  • HT1338 After upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion I cannot update iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand

    Hi all
On my iMac 27 (2011) I see that these updates are available but clicking on "Update all" gives me  the error message "These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates will be available through "Software Updates"" Any idea?
I can, however, download apps from the app store. That works.
    Appreciate your ideas.

So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1

A Backup or clone is always best to have, unless you can afford to lose everything & start over.
Depends what you need the graphics app to do, but GraphicConverter has a powerful Browse Folder function, & many tools for manipulation, & you can keep your Pics wherever you want, there are older versions that.ll work for 10.5.8...

  • Upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.4.6. Need some advice before I begin.

I'm running a workgroup server, that handles an in-house web page, retrospect backup services, file sharing, and mail list handling through sendmail.
The Hardware: Dual 1.4 GhZ G4, Mirrored drive doors. 1.5 gigs of installed RAM. Presently running Mac OS X server, v10.2.8. I already have the latest version of Retrospect, v6.1.126. This has been running for several months now, with no problem.
I've been requested and required to upgrade this operating system to OS X server, version 10.4.6. I already have the duly licensed copy of the OS, and I've downloaded the OS X server combo updater for 10.4.6. (Yes, I know 10.4.7 is posted. )
My question: what "gotchas" should I be aware of before I begin? It looks as though user account info, file sharing, and the small web page will stay just fine, but I have concerns about sendmail. This needs to work with a minimal amount of grief. Sendmail on this system handles several mailing lists of considerable size, and it would rather painful to have to rebuild the entire thing. I don't think switching this duty to another application is an option.
Any help and answers would be appreciated, thank.

I did that a few month's ago now, and for the most part it wasn't a problem. I lost a little of the stored e-mails because of not backing up the drives properly but that was okay, they were just archives anyway.
As far as using sendmail, I don't know, as I went from Apple's MTA to Postfix with Mailman, which works wonderfully. But I would think if you just make sure to backup your sendmail config files and then copied them into the appropriate places on the new server you should be set... But again, I don't know how sendmail works

  • Trying to upgrade from 10.6 to 10.10.  Do I need to do each version one at a time?

I just need to know if I need to pay for each individual upgrade so that I can purchase an app that won't let me get an older version.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.

  • Cs5: upgrading from CS2 to CS5 PC to Mac...need help shrinking file sizes

I am designing wallpapers for cellphones and was given very specific guidelines of various dimensions and file size (based on the different devices), 96 dpi, and PNG format. When working on my PC using Ps CS2, I would drag or copy/paste images from AI (CS I think) into PS. I found that the file size was lower when doing that. I would then do a "save as", and successfully keep to the given specs.
When I tried this on my Mac, using an image that I previously saved on my pc as a test, the file sizes were always over what they needed to be. I can't seem to figure out what the difference could be. I couldn't do a "save for web" because the dpi would come back as 72 when the file is opened. I tried that once and I was told to re-save the images again...and each image is saved over 100 times.  My PC went down and I've not been able to continue the work since.
Does anyone have a clue what I can do to fix this? I am totally baffled at this point. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

I'm on PC/Windows 7. I had enough issues getting CS2 installed on Windows 7, but it can be done. I just wanted some assurance that Dreamweaver installation doesn't remove GoLive. Thanks!

  • I have just ordered download via email to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Lion.  Will I need my original mac installation disc?

I don't have it anymore unfortunately after it was damaged in storage, so I'm concerned.  It's an iMac I bought in mid 2007.
If someone could set my mind at ease about this I would be very grateful.
    Many thanks

Has an internal drive fail been known to happen during an upgrade or do you just mean generally?  Sorry if that seems a really stupid question, but I am stupid when it comes to this sort of thing!

  • Not able to sort any grid after Tools upgrade from 8.49.10 to 8.50.07

Not able to sort any grid after Tools upgrade from 8.49.10 to 8.50.07, also when I click on any prompt button the prompt values are displaying in a separate screen rather than displaying in a model window.

I have resolved it by applying stylesheets and clearing the cache.
    Thanks,
