If your data is more than 5 gb then you will need to purchase more storage space.  Icloud will tell you how much space is needed.
If you don't want to purchase more space, then backup to iTunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

Use iPhone as designed. Like any digital camera, download your photos to your computer and delete from the iPhone to create space required for iOS upgrade.

My 16gb iPhone 4S keep tell me that my storage is almost full and I don't have enough space for any upgrades. I don't have any music or videos on my phone. I deleted all old emails, texts, contacts and apps but still nothing. When I check my settings, I noticed that my Instagram is at 732mb and it keeps rising. Now it's at 814mb. Please help!!!!!

What is the precise wording of the message that is occurring?
Are  you attempting to update via iTunes on a computer or over the air on the device?
How much free space is actually on the device?
If updating via iTunes on the computer, how much free space on the computer?

  • Should have enough space, but of course problems....

Hey. So I've had several large files, around 40 min video files to be exact, that I've been burning to dvd's using idvd. They were .avi files which didn't work with idvd. So I downloaded isquint and converted them to mp4 with the optimization for tv checked. Once these were converted, I burnt one of them to a dvd and everything was great. My question is that since I have alot of movie files, I would like to put more than one episode on a disk. The dvd's I have are 4.7gb and the video files range from 350 mb to 500 mb. Whenever I drag one to my dvd menu, I look at the status tab and under the "DVD Capacity" bar, it says that I've taken up 2.9 gb of 4.0. How could this be considering I've only added a video file that is tops 500 mb? I know the menu's themselves take up space, but they can't take up that much do they? I actually try to stay with the simple themes anyways. Usually I add a background image (jpg) and mayb 50 seconds of an mp3 for background music and thats it for the theme. With this all said and done, the "DVD Capacity" bar says I've taken up just about 3 gb's space of 4. Is it possible to put more than just one episode thats at tops 500 mb on a 4.7gb disk? I would think so, but idvd just isn't letting me do it. I just get the mssage that says I dont have enough room.
Well, thanks for listening to me blabber...
Any help would be extremely appreciated!
    Thanks, Neil

As already pointed out, iDVD works off time and size of the original files have no influence on how much of the final DVD will be used. Under Best Performance (preferences) you can put about an hour onto a single layer DVD blank and under Best Quality you get up to about 120 minutes.
MP4 files are very small, smaller than the MPEG2 files they will be converted to by iDVD to be in standard video DVD format. So your small MP4 files will actually be made into larger MPEG files by iDVD. If you are on Best Performance and one MP4 file is 15 minutes, then it is going to require roughly 1 gig of your 4 gig DVD space, regardless if the original file was much smaller than that.
It is just like if you take 10 MP3 songs that might be a total of 50MB, but if you burn those ten songs as a normal audio CD for use in the car, when they get recorded as AIFF files to the CD they now take up several hundred (up to 700) megabytes because it is a matter of time (a audio CD can hold up to 80 minutes of music), not file size again. Same thing happens with iDVD if your source files are tiny MP4 files.

    Is the message saying:
    Not enough storage
    Not enough/low memory?
For the former delete some items from the iPod.
For the latter.double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory.

And maybe you don't talk to too many people but I've been on many forums on different websites where people have had similar problems and a lot of people in the store were having battery problems where they were draining too fast. What I learned is that all the people who did not download the updates are good. There phone is working the same. The people who have, they're having battery problems
I have downloaded every update and my battery life is better than any previous iPhone I have ever owned. I see posts from hundreds of people every day, and this is not a commonly reported problem. While there are a few random reports of battery problems, it is no more than I have seen for any other model or any other version of iOS in almost 8 years. Usually problems of rapid battery drain can be traced to bad apps (FaceBook is the worst offender) or corrupt data being synced from iCloud or other sources (gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo, etc).
The simple test is to restore the phone as New. Do not create any email accounts. Do not install any apps. Do not enable FaceTime or iMessage. Do not enable Twitter or any other social networking app. Use it for a day and check the battery usage. You will find that it is working well.

  • HT4946 Can I back up my iPhone 4S to my ipad 3 (64 gb)? I do not have a computer. I deleted pictures from my iPhone and added then to the ipad, but now I don't have enough space in iCloud to backup either device. Why not?

Can I back up my iPhone 4S to my ipad 3 (64 gb)? I do not have a computer running Mountain Lion. Our desktop still runs Tiger, so I purchased the 3rd generation iPad with 64 gb thinking it had had plenty of room to backup my iPhone photos. I used a camera connection kit and transferred about 1100 old photos from my camera roll on my iPhone to my ipad.  I then deleted pictures from my iPhone and now my camera roll has only 357 photos. However, in the Settings, under "About" it says I have 2147 photos. Why? I only have a total of 216 photos in all my albums. However, now I don't have enough space in iCloud to backup either device. Why not?  Any help, any advice, appreciated please! I spent a long time on the phone with Apple today and they couldn't solve the problem.

iCloud only give so much space for free storage, then if you exceed the limit of 5gb you have to pay for additional storage.

  • Got new iPhone, but it says it won't back up icloud b/c i dont have enough space on iCloud?

Why does it say in icloud that i don't have enough space in icloud to back up my new iphone 5?

The problem could be that you don't have enough storage on the device itself, not on iCloud.  Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.
    Also check:
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud.
A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

You delete content from the iPad and/or update it from iTunes on a computer.
iCloud space is separate from that on the device.

I have 2 ipads and my iphone on the same icloud account and it wont let me back it up cause I dont have enough space. So I want to move my iphone over to a new icloud account with my new apple id that i made but i dont want to delete the ipads off the old account just move the iphone to the new one. How do I do that I despreatly need help!!!

To migrate your phone to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep on the phone, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; your other devices won't be effected by this), provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone (if using iOS 7) and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted .  Then sign back in with your new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data to the new account.

  • I have a ipod touch and i got it for christmas with an iTunes card .the problem is that i downloaded videos and now it said that there is not enough space and i only downloaded 8 and now 5 don't download how do i erase them.can  get my money back

i have a ipod touch and i got it for christmas with an iTunes card .the problem is that i downloaded videos and now it said that there is not enough space and i only downloaded 8 and now 5 don't download how do i erase them.can  get my money back

Whatever you read about iTunes is wrong unless you're actually referring to feature movies, not videos. Videos, apps, music and iBooks you can re-download:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Download to your computer and then sync to your iPod touch whatever will fit.
And no, I can't say with certainty that they won't give you a refund, but it's unlikely. The most probable outcome, if you do indeed mean movies, not TV shows or other videos, is that they would set up an additional download. For other content they'll probably just direct you to the same instructions on re-downloading I just posted.
