Good question bigboggerchoot.  I also would like to know the answer to this.

  • Apple Tv is playing wrong movie.

Apple tv is playing wrong movie. Very strange. I select the movie or tv program I want to watch but it plays a completely different one. I have airplay on, if I take it off the problem stops but every time I pause then hit play a different movie or even music plays on my computer at the same time. It;s driving me crazy. Whats going on?

When it stopped playing, what happened. Did the screen go blank, the video just freeze or did it go back to the menus, could you otherwise use the Apple tv or not.

  • Playing Rental movie on iPad in appletv

I am trying to play rental movies on ipad2 with appletv but it is taking too long loading. Help?

See my reply to your other post : Re: I cannot find my downloaded rental on my computer.

  • I cannot play rental movie on Apple TV.

I tried to get a rental movie on Apple TV but I cannot watch it. I let the movie to finish downloading in order to watch later but it's never worked. It always showed "ready to play in 4 hours", even though, it was downloaded over 50% of the movie already. It's been several times until I really gave up. Finally, I cannot watch it and they deducted money from my credit card for this movie.
Never again rental movie on Apple TV!!!

    Noonalways,
Most likely youi have a slow internet connection or have limits on your usage.
Apple TV calculates the time nneded to finish the doanload so you can comfortably watch the whole move without waiting for the rest of the download half way down the plot.
I understand the frustration but it is not Apple TV you have the real problem with.
If you go wor HD quality you can try to download standard and see if this goes faster.

  • Apple TV2 not playing rented movies

    Hi folks,
Here's a problem which I've discovered since the latest software update for the appleTV:
I regularly rent movies via the iTunes store on my iPad2.  Usually in standard def.  I've had no trouble in the past viewing said videos on AppleTV - appearing in the top left of the Apple TV home screen under 'Purchased' or 'Rented' items.
On Sunday past,  I rented a film in the same way only to find that the rental did not appear on my AppleTV - I even did the whole 'check for rentals' thing via settings, but to no avail.  In the end, as I had friends round to watch the movie, I had to rent the movie a second time via my appleTV.
Phoned support last night who couldn't give me an explanation of why this might be, but did offer me a work-around - ie, play the movie on my iPad and send it via Airplay to my appleTV - I tried it last night while the guy from support was on the phone with me.  It worked with a rented movie on my iPad 'Stander'.  No problems.  So, I went ahead and rented 'In Time' on my iPad, sent to to Airplay as before only to get the message on my iPad 'Not authorised to play this content on the selected monitor device'.  However, the audio was playing via the AppleTV.  Tried again this morning to find that now not only isn't the audio not playing via AppleTV but I'm getting the yellow exclamation mark triangle on screen with the message 'Not Authorised to play this content'.
There is nothing wrong with my hardware as far as I can tell.  Everything else works as it should.  This is a problem which has suddenly occured since the last firmware/software update for AppleTV.
Can someone offer me some help/explanation because Apple support both last night and today have been entirely useless.  While not able to offer me an explanation, they did however try to sell me extended phone support, which was nice...
So yeah, if anyone else can offer me any help/suggestions, it'd be much appreciated!
    d.

I don't recall rentals made on an iPad ever also being available on AppleTV direct - they're not supposed to be:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
It's a long time since I rented on an iPad so that's not to say it never happened I just don't recall that you werer supposed to be able do to this.
    Airplay however should work.
Funnily enough I tried Airplaying a movie my kids had started to watch on teh AppleTV2 yesterday and got audio only.  This was from a local iTunes library so easy to do direct on the unit - I'd only tried Airplay as it should have continued from where they were watching rather than ahving to manually naviagte to there.

  • Trouble with Playing Rental Movies from iTunes

I rented a movie on iTunes (on my apple TV). It started to play after about 5 minutes, no problem. Then after about 50 minutes, I went into Menu, by mistake while trying to pause the movie.... That's it.... cant get back to the movie afer that.
The movie was no where to be found. When i searched again and found the movie, it allowed me to rent it again - on selecting play option, it said movie already rented but not download and to 'download' it go into Menu>iTunes Store>Check for Rentals.
I do that and it just seems to go on endlesslu without anything happening.
Why cant i just play the movie again?
    Any suggestions please

    This got sorted out.
I chose a diffent itunes store.
then came back to the original store and i can view the rental movies

  • Playing rental movies with front row

Is there any way that they can upgrade front row so that i can watch rented movies through it? I'm a very lazy person and i want to watch my rented movies from my bed without moving. I can use the remote to watch most things but it won't let me play rented movies with it.

Unfortunately, rental movies do not appear in Front Row. I believe this is because of the inability of Front Row to alert you (and have you click "okay") to the rental agreement requirements. It may also be because Front Row does not give iTunes feedback about when you started playing the movie and/or when you're done. If you would like to see rental movies in iTunes, as do quite a few people who post in this forum, I would suggest you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback (since there's no form specifically for Front Row):

  • Error message -42110 when playing rental movie

I've just downloaded Tintin from the rental section on iTunes. When I try and play it I get the error message -42110. When I access my account on iTunes it says that I still have 1 purchase to download. I went through the download process for a 2nd time and again when I try and play the movie I get an -42110 error message. I have the latest version of iTunes and I'm running Mac OS 10.7.3. Can anyone help? I've e-mailed Apple and I'm waiting to hear back.

  • Playing rental movies freezes / crashes iTunes. Someone working on a fix?

.....or is this just a random error? Don't think so since there are a few more with the same problem.
I’ve been waiting for a solution to this problem since iTunes rental was started, but obviously there’s not enough “complaining“ about this error! Well here’s one more try! I hope a few more people start complaining so that this gets fixed.
When I try to play a rented movie I am asked the usual question about the 24 hour policy and as soon as I press OK, just when you think the movie will start playing, the screen turns black, or gray as described by others and our friendly beach ball appears. No sound, no picture, nothing! iTunes simply freezes forever until you force it to quit, or turn off the Mac.
After that the rented movie appears as it was never played in iTunes, the 24 hour runtime didn’t start counting, but the 30 day clock starts ticking.
There is of course one thing I observed, my MacBook gets extremely loud which would lead to increased processor activity, which I usually don’t experience except if I run many resourceful applications at once. As soon as I force iTunes to quit this is back to normal.
*Everything else, bought movies, TV shows, music, etc. works perfectly without any error or problem.*
Of course I got a refund from the iTunes store, but no indication why this problem occurred and most important how and when it will be solved.
This happened on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with Mac OS X 10.4.11 with updated software including iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4. But as far as I can see from other posts this is not limited to certain Hardware, because many different systems including Windows users have the same problem.
Things I have tried “inspired” by other forums:
*1. Updated and checked for new updates several times.*
*2. Completely removed Quicktime, downloaded and installed latest version from Apple.*
*3. Bought music to check if iTunes account has problems.*
*4. Different firewall settings, turned firewall off during play! Yes firewall is back on.*
*5. Monitored activity and firewall during play without any obvious problem.*
*6. Played movie with and without internet connection, cable and wifi.*
*7. Played movie with Quicktime, didn’t work error “authorization required”.*

I too downloaded the update to Quicktime, but it did not solve my problem. After much pulling out of the hair, I found a fix for myself. It may help someone else. This is what I had to do:
    1. Make sure that movies are set to play in a seperate window (found in Edit/Preferences/Playback.
    2. Open iTunes (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY THE MOVIE FROM iTUNES). Instead switch to the mini player mode (found under Advanced).
    3. Open your movie folder where the rental is. The movie folder is usually found in My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies. Right click on the rented movie and select "Play". It will open in a regular window, but you should be able to click on the control for full screen at the bottom of the play control. I hope this helps someone else... I have tested it three times and it's worked every time.

  • HT1657 My rental movie downloaded in 43 minutes. Where do I go to play it. When click on rent so that I can play it a pop up message says are you sure you want to rent it again? What wow question. iTunes can not figure that this movie has not even been pl

I rented a movie in itunes n it took 43 minutes to download. So where do I click to play my rental movie? When I click on rent a pop up says that this movie has been already rented. So where is my rental movie n where do I go to click on play?

  • HT1657 Problem playing rental movies

  • How do I play protected movies downloaded from ITunes to Ipad then on TV?

I recently brought an Apple product: IPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, and also a High-res S/VGA cable....Thinking i could connect my Ipad to my TV and play the movies I brought from ITunes, but no it says they are protected MEG-4, so they will not play on my TV, WHY??? Wouldn't that be one of the first reasons for buying such a cable, it seems unfathomable to me, I cannot understand, what a waste of money. I get all my movies from ITunes.

    The following says:
    Additional Information
iTunes Store movies (SD and HD) and TV shows (HD) require an HDCP digital connection. If you attempt to play this content using the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, an alert will appear to let you know that an HDCP-compatible device is required. To view iTunes Store content, do one of the following:
Sync the SD version of the TV show
Use an Apple Component AV cable to play the HD version at 480p
Use an Apple Composite AV cable to play the HD version at 480i
Attempting to play rental content on a device that requires an HDCP digital connection may start the rental timer. Use one of the recommended Apple AV cables to view your rental before the time limit expires.
