How to backup Mac server files and restore to Windows server?
Our company is moving from Mac Server to Windows Server 2008 R2.
I'd like to connect a hard drive to the Mac server (via existing eSATA) and backup our data (just file level backup is fine, don't need permissions or security) and then move hard drive to new Windows 2008 R2 server and restore files.
Does anyone have any cross-platform backup/restore software they can recommend?
We have about 500GB of data, so I prefer a locally connected device to backup to instead of over-the-network backup.
Thank you for your ideas!As standard the Mac cannot write to NTFS format disks, and as standard Windows cannot read from HFS+ disks. FAT32 might be a possibility but it does not support files bigger than 4GB.
The simplest if slower option is to do it over the network using SMB. If you do really want to do it with a hard disk then you may need to consider getting some software to let either Mac or Windows deal with the others preferred hard disk format.
To let the Mac write to NTFS there are several choices but the one I have used in the past is NTFS for Mac by Paragon, see http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
To let Windows read from HFS again the are multiple possible choices but the one I have used in the past and still use is MacDrive, see http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive -

I saved a corrected, most up to date version of my master Address Book Contacts as a back-up on my Mac Book Pro.
then in an effort to "simplify my life" i attempted to sync my I phone contacts - ( pre clean-up version) with my clean list on Mac Book Pro, New I pad and newly available icloud. DUH!! Using iTunes to do the sync caused the clean MacBOOK Pro list to be commingled with the dirty iphone contacts. amd now the whole mess is in the cloud.
I need to clear out the contaminated lists from all iplaces, and startover with Back-up on my macbook pro. BUT HOW???

KarenI had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud. I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop. I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud. Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook. The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself. I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
I feel empowered!!
Have i missed anything?? -
i had backup my iphone .. and it started but later it showed no space.. so i had to stop the backup..and had gone to preference>device and deleted the backup.. but still my iphone shows the availabilty as zero..plz help.. how to get the available space that was before..

iCloud only give so much space for free storage, then if you exceed the limit of 5gb you have to pay for additional storage. -
After moving from Canada to the US, getting a new iPhone 5C, and restoring my backup from iCloud, I can't update my apps. I get an error message that my account is not valid in the Canadian App store and I must change to the US store. How do I do that?
Change here:
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
You must have a verified billing address & be located in the country whose store you are trying to use. -
hi i'm trying to backup my iphone 4s and usually can but when i go into itumnes now and select device. it dissapears and does notjing? it doesn't give me the screen to select 'back up'. Please help

It sounds like you are clicking your device in iTunes but it is disappearing and preventing you from backing up your decive. I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article to help troubleshoot the issue named:

You can also backup your iPhone from the File menu:

Do you still have the iphone? I know this has been an issue with phones that were lost or stolen, but if you still have your iphone try going into settings on that iphone and turn off imessage. See if that helps,certainly cannot do any harm.
