HT1430 I set-up my new i-pad when I received it Saturday, following the 'on pad' directions.  Having switched it on for the first time since this evening, I am now asked for a 'passcode'.  I now can not proceed.  What can I do?

    Here is the screen shot, just the top half, there are another 10 pages, but I guess this should enough for you to have an idea of waht is going on, bit small I am afraid. No, I don't have any apps setup to run when I open my computer, the kernel, varies between 290 and 305 per cent ish.
    Would that PRAM thing help ? I think it may be the computer itself, well something inside, as this the first time that the fan has ever started running since I have this computer, even when I have 3 or 4 apps running.

    Can you try to use another computer?
    If this does not work, visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place, and show them the phone, maybe they can restore it before you'll have to get it serviced.
    Did you try to put it in recovery mode?

    If neither iPhoto not IC can seethe card it might suggest an issue with the card or the ports on the camera/mac.
    Try reformat the card, change the ports and/or use a USB Card Reader.

    I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
    Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box?  If so, do:
    Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

    By "sending" do you mean sending email?
    If so, what app are you using to take the photos on your iPhone 5? Or are the photos from a different source (saved to your Camera Roll from somewhere else, like a web page or Messages)?
    My guess is that Mail gives you the option to send different file sizes when it detects you are trying to Mail a really large photo file. The size of photos on the iPhone 5 is really big and some email providers may stop your mail from being delivered if attachments are too large. Thus, Mail tries to help you by offering to resize the photo.
    I suspect that if you are sending smaller files, Mail does not bother giving you options to save a smaller version. In fact, I have seen this behavior. So, if the photo is already "small enough", it gets sent as-is.
    To my  knowledge, there is no global iOS setting for this. Some apps may have different rules, of course.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

    Time Machine: when setting up a second external hard drive (after a Time Capsul is already set up) does Time Machine place a complete backup onto the new external hard draive?

    I want to use Time Machine to begin "doing it's thing" - creating a second Time Machine backup of the hard drive on my computer - on a new 2Tb external hard drive I've just installed and initialized.
    When I open the TIme Machine App it automatically goes into "Star Wars" mode as it's already commected to my Time Capsule.  THere is no menu bar anywhere.  When you cancel the "Star Wars" mode, it just closes the application.
    Where are the TIme Machine App "controls" - the menus where I can direct it to install and do an ongoing second TIme Machine backup of my Computer's hard drive on the new extrnal drive?
    Thanks for any help.  I hope this is as simple as it sounds.

    PS If having a 2nd external drive doing regualr Time Machine backups of my main hard drive will slow down my computer too much (MacBook Pro 2009 running Mountain Lion) please advise.  I can also just do some other type of file and folder backup on a daily basis once a day.  I used to use Retrospect before I got the TIme Capsule 3 years ago.  Looks like REtrospect isn't among the most popular file backup apps for the Mac anymore.

    Should be in the Applications folder - can be added back to the dock - or if accidentally deleted should be able to get it back from the CD that came with the system.

    Contact AppleCare at 800.694.7466, and ask for account security.  You will need to answer some questions to verify your identity, AND you will need access to a computer to generate a temporary support pin.
