HT1476 sos, nothing happens when I connect the ipod touch to the laptop. No charge, no turn on.  any clue?

The I pod has gone blank and when I connect the USB wire to the laptop, nothing happens.  no sound, no power to turn on the I pod.
how do you know if the battery is at life end.  We just got this within a year.
please help.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
