Put the Indian sim card in the phone and start using it, that is always assuming that you have not first activated the phone using the T-Mobile sim card, in which case the Indian sim card will not work as the phone will become locked to T-Mobile and you'll have to get it unlocked by them.
If not, put the Indian sim card in the phone to activate it and then start using it.

It's like the call history. You can have more than 100 calls, but only the most recent 100 calls show on the device. You can still get your entire call history from your wireless carrier. When I receive instructions from them, do I need to connect to my own iTunes or can I connect to someone else's and/or does my contract with three still need to be active for me to unlock or can I cancel before I unlock, I have already paid the £15:32 by debit card. As more background, the reason I want to find out is because I'm away from home and because I expected my phone to be unlocked well before now (three are seriously useless) I requested my PAC code before Christmas and it expires on Sunday so I would love to transfer my number tomorrow before I have wait another 30 days to cancel my contract with three.
I'm not sure if they will unlock my phone in time or if I will be able to do it whilst not having my Mac. Can I transfer my number and then unlock my phone afterwards? I will be reunited with my Mac on Monday.

Install iTunes on your Acer and you can back up the iPhone. Or back it up to iCloud. If you do not back it up you can get it unlocked, but you will lose all of your content.
You can get iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes.
Even after unlocking I'm not sure it will work on Straight Talk, because last time I checked ST used Verizon as its carrier, and an AT&T iPhone 4 is not compatible with Verizon's network. You can probably use it on Net 10 or T-Mobile once it is unlocked.

Could purchase music or games from Japan store but now cannot

I have a Japanese iTunes gift card which I have been able to purchase games or music for years up until last month. For some reason, the app store does not load when I click the top bar link yet the Book and Movie sections load. If I click on the Top Songs link or any of the recommended links, I get a page that loads everything but the songs. It will tell me the total number of items that should be there, but I don't see anything.
If I directly try to buy anything I get the Terms and conditions page which I accept but only to get a error as such:
"Item Not Available
Make sure your computer's date is set correctly and that it accepts cookies from the iTunes Music Store."
What gives??? Never a problem for years so why would Apple not allow me to purchase content from another country? Is this an error with the recent version of itunes 11 or did they change their business model?

I got a result
The iPhone was "stuck" at the end of the restore process.
After waiting 20 minutes without any progress, I reset the iPhone (using the home screen key and power button)
I then got the white apple logo which indicates a "reboot" is in progress
It would be nice to have an option to display verbose output on the phone at this stage, but hey!
After then waiting a further 20 minutes or so and after a few phone vibrations, the white apple logo was still being
displayed without any further progress
Past experince shows that a phone "reboot" usually takes less then a few minutes to complete
I tried another reset (using the home screen key and power button)
I got the white apple logo again and this time the phone started up within a few minutes
All app store apps were present, notes, sms, email and call history still intact!
still no music, videos and podcasts
In the meantime itunes had frozen and crashed on my laptop, so a "kill task" and restart was needed
On restart, I observed that the iphone was now showing 13.55 gigabytes of free space.
Hurrah!
I'm now resyncing music/video/podcasts

Now the first question is, when you are saying connecting to personal hotspot, have you always been using the iPhone to connect to the internet? Are you someplace where the only place to connect is available via tethering to the iPhone's celluar network? Or do you have other options?

Unlocked means unlocked, so yes.
But, support and namely warranty coverage may not be available for you in Norway or anywhere but in the US with any iPhone purchased in the US, even an unlocked iPhone purchased in the US.

If officially unlocked, yes. Be careful, many of the electronics stores there sell hacked iPhones. All iPhones, from official sources in Dubai, have had FaceTime permanently removed...required by law, with no way to add it back. So, if you want FaceTime, don't purchase there.

iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.
