If I have a balance on my accout, when I try to download a song why does it ask me for a credit card?

Once you redeem the card to your iTunes account, you no longer need the card as the full amount is put onto your account.
Simply purchase and the amount will be deducted from what is on your account.

If you intend to keep using iCloud on your iPad, your best course of action would be to update your Apple ID/iCloud information so that you have a known password and it is associated with an active email address. You may find the following articles helpful:

If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Click the "down arrow" next to your name at the top right side of the page and click "Account." Enter your username and password and click "View Account" to log into your account information. Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.

How do you use your iTunes card after you have redeemed it. I have entered my redeem code and my balance is $20.00 but when I go to buy a song it asks me for my credit card details...?!
If you set up an Apple ID already and didn't enter credit card details because you were planning on using gift cards only, you probably set up the account incorrectly. If this is the case, you will have to enter the credit card details even if you want to use only gift cards and download free content only. Yoy will not have to use the card, but you can't use the ID without entering the card details now. You may be able to remove the card as well after the card is verified for use by Apple by editing your account details.
There is a very specific manner in which you have to set up an ID without using a credit card. You can read about it here.

If you decide to create a new ID now, you will new another email address as wel, because the email address that you are currently using will already be associated with the ID that you just set up.

To purchase and update apps, even free ones with the standard account you need a valid payment method. You can use a CC or redeem an iTunes gift card.
You can create a NEW account using these instructions. You have to use an email address not used with Apple before. You can't update any apps purchased with another account using this account.

All my purchases in iTunes has been made by Apple ID Balance (redeem from gifcards). My account has $ 27,45 but I cannot pay any new app or even update my apps because is asked to check my credit card. I just realized that I wrote that I installed from app store originally, but I must correct that statement. I never paid for the app so it must have come preinstalled on my 2011 iMac. I was confused since the update is through the store so I assumed I downloaded it. Sorry for any miscommunication.
So to be clear, even though I have never remotely administered / accessed my computer and I no longer have ARD on my computer, it is normal to have the client update appear in my App Store. Is that correct?

I have a gift card balance that I can't redeem. I found what I wanted to buy but don't see an option to bu/purchase/download or anything like that. Where did that choice disappear to. All that is available is Gift the song, Tell a Friend, Share and Copy Link. REDEEM isn't the answer because it asks for the code from the gift card. That code was already entered when I first made a purchase from it and now have a balance. Can Someone Please Help Me. . . . .I've spent 2 days reading blogs and trying different things but can't seem to figure it out.

A friend of mine and I own an iPhone 4S. He could access the App store and download apps without submiting his credit card's procedure. But for me, each time I go to the app store, they say, ' This Apple ID has not yet been linked with iTunes ' or such.

If you need to buy apps a credit card or other form of payment is required. As far as I know debit cards are no longer accepted.
