File fetch from external souce...  http adapter, file adapter, or...

Hi - Hopefully this is a straight-forward question. I need to fetch a file from an external source (vendor) using a url that they provided us. Secondly, the url and file change each run. Here is the scenario:
#1.
- our side (PI 7.11) calls their webservice A to tell them to generate a report, and a report handle id is passed back to us (this part works)
- our side (PI 7.11) calls their webservice B with that report id to get a https url string (this part works). E.g. return url is https://pvab70barp.companyb.com/reports/ODbsPPSBIQxPs/u1/u1_1307128013471215.csv
- our side (PI 7.11) then needs to go fetch the contents of that file... again, the file is over at their site
#2.
The next time we run this we would get an entirely different url string
So to solve #1, it seems to me that the HTTP adapter can be used (can it be used though given the url is https?). I don't think FILE adapter can be used as I believe it needs the file to reside on the local file system.
To solve #2, it appears some dynamic configuration of the url is needed. Is their an easy way?
If anyone has thoughts on these then I would appreciate hearing back from you with your comments. I have not worked with either of these adapters yet.
Thanks,
Keith

1) You can use http or https connection to connect remote server.   HTTPS is not an issue. You create RFC destination of type H and there provide login credentials such as client certificates. Use that destination name in the http receiver adapter to use https.   Looks like to read the file that is on the http server, you might want to use Java proxy to achieve this. Simple HTTPS communication would not read the file. Or request the client to share it in the network shared drive. so that we can use File adapter to pulll the file.
2) Yes you can use dynamic configuration in the mapping for the dynamic HTTPS URL.

  • Any issues pulling files from external partners using PI File adapter?

I would like to know if there are any issues with pulling files directly from external partners using PI File adapter.
We are estimating 60 communication channels to pull files from the external vendors (25 vendors). Polling for these communication channels will be done for every 5 minutes. We have a load of around 500 files per day with peak size as 50MB and average file size as 2MB. We are currently using PI 7.0 SP12.
Did any one face any problems with respect to performance or any other issues?

The volume as described would be handled with no issues.

This is a common mistake and I highly advise against it.
1: TimeMachine saves states of changes and thus requires more room on the TM drive than the boot drive it's backing up.
2: Something happens to the TM drive, loss, theft, dropped, power surge, etc., you lose both backups.
3: The storage drive might become a portable need, with it being on the TM drive, now your increasing the risk to the TM backup that something could happen to it along with the storage drive, due to increased movement.

  • Cant do a file get from external server using file sender adapter with ftp

    Hi all,
Up until now our company has only used the file sender adapter with ftp protocol to get a file from our XI server for processing and input the file into an integration process
I have a requirement to do an ftp file get from an external server
From our XI development server I can ftp directly to the external server and view the required directory using the command window via a DOS prompt (FTP open ...).  So all firewall issues and communications are fine
Unfortunately I cannot currently pull files from the external server using the XI file adapter with ftp protocol from the XI development server AWB017
FTP Connection Parameters: External server name using port 21, Data Connection is Passive, No security, I supply a userid and password
Processing Parameters: Processing Mode is Archive (I tried test but this did not work either)
No messages appear in the RWB
Is there something else that I need to set up in order for the external ftp get to work via the XI file adapter?
    Regards,
    Mike

    Thanks for your responses.
I have found the error messages in the File Adapter Monitor
    Scenario 1
When I prefix the source directory with a forward slash, eg <b>/Folder/Subfolder</b> the error message is as follows
<b>EST: Error: Error connecting to ftp server 'ip address': FTPEx: /Folder/Subfolder: The system cannot find the path specified</b>
    Scenario 2
When I DO NOT prefix the source directory with a forward slash, eg <b>Folder/Subfolder</b> a different error message is returned
<b>Error: Retrieving file 'FILENAME.XML' failed unexpectedly: FTPEx: Folder/Subfolder: The system cannot find the path specified</b>
At least in this scenario the adapter has been able to identify the file on the external FTP site but cannot retrieve it
    Questions
I thought that the backslash prefix for the source directory was mandatory but I am receiving an error in each scenario
I receive the same error message whether the Processing Mode is 'Archive' or 'Test'
The logs on the external ftp server seem to indicate that I am simply connecting, sending username and password then quiting straight away. I am not issuing any commands that they can see
I thought that being a Sender adapter it would inherently execute a Pull or Get command
To recap, from our XI development server I can ftp directly to the external server and view the required directory using the command window via a DOS prompt (FTP open ...). So all firewall issues, communications, userid and password are fine
    Has anyone experienced these issues?
Please advise on next course of action?
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Cannot copy files to/from external drive

    Hi All,
Bit of a cry for help.  I run an iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 10.7.3 and I'm having some serious problems with an external drive.  Some history first - I have a large iTunes library (~3Tb) of everytype of media which I stored on an external NAS (iomega StorCenter) with no problems - then this NAS started to report a drive error with imminent failure.  I purchased a new DAS (Western Digital) drive and moved all my content from the NAS to the DAS and everything was ok.  Then I started to get errors through iTunes about cannot find the file and cannot read the files - and then I couldn't access anything on the drive.  At this time I thought this was a different problem because I was running preview Mountain Lion, or there was an actual fault with the disk.  After investigation, and coughing out for Data Rescue 3 I found that somehow the entire file structure had been corrupted and all my files had been orphaned.  So at this point I had one dying NAS drive and one DAS which wasn't usable and no space to recover any files to.
So - next step was to purchase another external drive (and returned the WD) - this time I went for a G-Raid 4Tb (non-thunderbolt) drive and I've been in the process of recovering files from backups and iTunes.  I've had no problems until today when yet again I've started getting errors and now I have problems copying files to/from this G-Raid drive.
      Technical details - OS-X 10.7.3 - G-Raid 4Tb formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - currently showing 1,163 folders and 15,452 files.
Symptoms - using finder drag and drop copy a file from the g-Raid to desktop results in 'The operation can't be completed because the item 'xxx' is in use. - 'The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found (error code -43).' and the copy fails.
Using the cp command I get a 'Resource Busy' error.
However, this is not for all files - I've managed to copy all my books back to the desktop ok, when a couple came up with the above error I tried again and it copied successfully.
I have run Disk Utility - here are the details :-

I'm now out of ideas and when I got in touch with G-Tech support I got "Unfortunately the drive seems to have been corrupted. You can try to retrieve the data using third party data recovery software such as Data Rescue 3. You can find the software at a discounted rate at the following page:http://www.thedatarescuecenter.com/gtech-data-recovery-software.html  If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask."
any help/advice/pointers very much appreciated as I really don't want to have to start recovering again :-(
    Thanks all.

    Hi Ncat,
I might have had similar problems with yours. Finder stuck at 'Not Responding' while I boot my Macbook Pro with external HDD plugged in, my macbook heats up considerably maybe because it keeps trying to access the external disk. And Finder can only proceed after I unplugged my external hard disk.
    So what I did was:
I rebooted my macbook into recovery mode (by holding cmd+R before / during the booting chime
I used the Disk Utility from there (instead of from normal booting)
Then I proceed to with 'Repair Permissions' and 'Repair Disk' for each and every partition of the external harddisk, and also my internal hard disk.
Rebooted after everything's done, and now it seems to work.
I hope that it will work for you

  • Files transferred from external hard drive (backed up from pc) are locked. Can't unlock & can't delete them from Mac now.

I just picked up a new Mac and have been trying to transfer files backed up to an external hard drive from a PC. I was able to transfer some of the files without issue, but most of the files show that they are locked. Now that they are on the Mac I can't unlock or delete them.

    Try http://www.apple.com/ie/support/macbasics/

  • Airport Extreme is allowing access to screen sharing, file sharing from external IP addresses (some from China, Canada etc)

How to get control over the ports/port forwarding etc in Airport Extreme?
How to make AE drop packets to certain ports from external ports.  Or create whitelist/blacklists?
I figured out where the MAC filtering is!  (It is inside the Timed Access Control).  I wish it had a list of connected device and allowed me to select, name and add them.
I am getting requests from Chinese IP to the screen sharing ports forwarded to my iMac.  Had requests to other ports as well.  There was one IP address from CANADA too.
I want to open file sharing for local use only.

Why is Airport Extreme forwarding requests for screen sharing from external ip addresses to my imac?  I don't have a public address, nor use dynamic dns service, and I have removed the server app (at least I think I have, but Apple Store doesn't think so).

  • Files missing from external drive

I have a 4 TB G-Tech RAID drive attached via FireWire 800. It was formerly a backup drive for photos/videos, moved up to a main drive when the old drive it was backing up failed. Problems got in the way of replacing it....
Anyway, all of a sudden, my files were gone. Just gone. For some reason, the folder hierarchy is still there--every folder, as best I can tell is where it was, but any and all data is gone.
Disk Utility found nothing wrong with the drive; DiskWarrior didn't, either. I booted from another external drive running 10.6.x, no change in what wa(sn't) there, and ran TechTool Pro 5 (I'm running 10.8.3 and don't have a newer version so it ran off the older OS); no help.
I ran Data Rescue for a few days and it seems to have recovered a lot of files--but we're talking almost 3 TB of data, and I shudder at how many months it's going to take me to get it back into a semblence of order, as well as how much I've actually recovered.
The part that makes me hit my forehead is that I ran the Deleted Files function, which scans free space only. I did so because, at the time I ran Data Rescue, there still was data on the drive, about 600 GB of photos/videos. But when it had finished, all THAT was gone, too, and I wonder if I should have done a Deep Scan and missed files as a result.
But here's the thing: If I do a Get Info on the drive, it says that the capacity is 4TB. But, if I open a Finder window and show the top level (with all of the volumes shown) and use List view, it shows  the drive as being 2.99 TB in size. So... is that data is still there, somehow? I.e., is there anything recoverable in a *useful* form--in the original folders and with the original names, rather than hundreds of thousands of undifferentiated files that DR presumebly found?
Side note, and perhaps a red herring. The drive had been running slowly for a while, though tests didn't show why; see here. The drive had seemed to recover itself, but then got slow again. I downloaded Drive Genius (demo) and tried to run the Benchmark function, only to find that it didn't run in eval mode. At some point, I found that my iMac was running slowly, and I opened Activity Monitor and found an odd process taking up a lot of CPU: dgse. Couldn't figure out what it was, and Googling didn't reveal anything. So, just in case I had a Trojan, I quit it. It was right after this that I found my data gone. I later tracked the process to Library>Application Support>Drive Genius
    Sure seems darned coincidental....

Thanks. Ran it twice, but it didn't restore the files. Still, it gave me the following:
The original directory is damaged and it was necessary to scavenge the directory to find file and folder data.!
Some files that had been lost or thrown away may have been recovered.
Comparison of the original and replacement directories indicates that there will be no changes to the number or contents of files and folders. All files and folders were compared and a total of 807,104 comparison tests were performed.
    • All errors in the directory structure such as tree depth, header node, map nodes, node size, node counts, node links, indexes and more have been repaired.
    • Volume Information had to be scavenged from the file system journal.

  • Deleted Files disappeared from external drive but space is still occupied ( iMac )

    Hello all...
    I have this problem.
Whenever I delete items from my external hard drive, using iMac (running mavericks), the files disappear from the drive window but their space will be still occupied. if i format the drive using my mac, everything will disappear & the whole drive capacity would be available for use.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Luk

Unless you empty the trash while the external is attached, the files will remain in the trash. You will gain back your space after you empty it.

  • Files lost from external hard drive when using Time Machine

    Hi,
I am very new to Mac and might did something stupid. I have one small portable hard drive that I keep everything in it as my backup. All Photos, music, files, etc, now are gone because I was enable this hard drive to be the Time Machine backup.
Mac did tell me that the drive is not compatible and when I selected this drive, Time Machine asked to format it. Of course, I said no.
The structure of folders in the drive looks perfect to me but the files are gone (except only few small files)
Can someone help me restore my backup please? :'(
    Message was edited by: Pinocioh

    HI,
Many small drives you buy can be formated in a variety of ways that are not Time Machine Friendly. For example, the Western Digital Passport, a very nice small drive, is usually in the FAT(32) format. To use such a drive you only need reformat it for Time machine (really for the Intel Mac).
To do this you go to Applications/Utilities/disk utility. Be sure your drive is plugged in and spun up. In disk utility select the drive in the pane on the left. Then click the tab on the right that says "partition". Choose 1 partition if that's what you want and then in options choose GUID. Then click "apply". This will remove everything on the drive, but now it will work just fine with time machine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why will CS4 not open DNG files converted from Olympus E-M1 raw files?

For several years I have been able to use the DNG Converter to convert .ORF raw files from my Olympus E-M1 and then open them for processing in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
I have not changed any preferences. I'm using E-M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I have deleted DNG converter several times, even reinstalled an earlier version but nothing changes.
However, CS4 will open DNG files converted from Pentax raw .PEF files from my K-5. Weird. It's the Olympus raw DNG conversions that won't open.
I can view the DNG converted files in question in Mac's Preview just fine but not CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Be sure the DNG Converter's compatibility is set to provide support for your version of ACR:

  • Copying Files To/From External Drive: Error -36

I recently purchased a WD 700 GB drive that I'm using as a network drive using AirportExtreme. Today, while trying to copy files from either of my internal drives to the WD drive, I get error -36 messages. If I'm copying a folder of files and click on the option "skip" after receiving an error message for a particular file then the entire copy transaction aborts. I have taken the following steps:
    1) Disconnected WD from netywork and connected it directly to my G5.
    2) Ran Disk Utilities and got 1 error on 1 of the 3 partitions which was repaired.
    3) Re-ran Disk Utilities and got no error.
Tried moving folders of files and groups of files from WD to G5 and received same error -36 message.
Tried moving folders of files and groups of files from G5 to WD and received same error -36 message. Cannot move even a single file - of ANY size - w/o getting error -36 message.
    4) Checked permissions and "ignore ownership" settings on volumes concerned then logged in under root.
Same problem continues. Tried moving files between my internal drives - no problem. Now here's the thing: the only files I have moved to the WD drive thus far are my music files. The iTunes Library on my G5 is pointed at an iTunes folder with these files inside. Last 2 weeks or so there's been no problem.
I NEED TO GET THESE MUSIC FILES OFF or COPIED or BURNED to another disk. In that vein I tried:
    5) Unsuccessfully creating an image file of the files on the WD but always ended up with a much too small and empty .dmg file.
    6) Burning files to DVD - same error -36 messages.
    7) Repaired permissions on my G5 - just 'cause. No help.
    8) Re-ran Disk Utilities on WD: repairs not needed.
    9) Re-booted; error -36 messages continue to pop up.
I'm at a loss as to what to do and am especially peeved because I bought the WD at the suggestion of a clerk at the Apple Store even after I pointed out to him that the WD was getting very mixed reviews on Apple's site. I'm not angry with the clerk but at myself for purchasing the WD even with my misgivings.
How can I copy to another disk the ONLY copy of my music files from the WD drive so I can either reformat or return it?
Dual 2 GHz G5, 17" MacBook Pro, MacMini, Apple iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2 Apple 20" Cinema Display, Proview 17" display, External Acomdata Disk Drive

    A couple of ideas:
    1. Do you have an iSight camera or an iPod connected to another Firewire port? If so, unplug them so that the only Firewire device is the drive.
    2. Unplug everything except the keyboard and mouse and download and reapply the 10.4.10 COMBO update. Make sure no other program is running when you apply the update, and do nothing whatsoever until the update finishes.
    3. Have you tried plugging the drive into another computer to see if it works? If so, copy files off on the other computer and burn them from there.
    4. Does your iTunes work and access the files? Have you tried creating CDs from iTunes?
If all else fails and you have a spare drive slot in the G5 that will take the type of drive in the enclosure, you could always try removing it from the enclosure and putting it into the G5 and see if it works there. The problem could be the innards of the drive enclosure rather than the drive itself.

  • Why cant I delete some Folders / Files transfered from external HD? to!

I am trying to figure out why I cant delete some folders / files, that I transfered from an external HD to my Macbook!
Some of these folder / files are text, video, and pic's based. Surely, going through those video / pics / text files, those I dont need anymore I would like to delete. Some of these appear to be deleted (in trash).  But few days later I do realize, that they were not delete, or only few of the deleted files were properly deleted!
Why is this, this way - and how can I solve this issues! I just want to delete stuff either in form of folders or files, that I dont need anymore!

How are you trying to transfer them? What kind of external device?
